Dispelling Myths about Estrogen and Breast Cancer

Saison 1 · Épisode 12

mercredi 10 avril 2024Durée 22:33

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and breast cancer risk has long been overestimated. For too long, both patients and providers have overestimate the risk of hormone replacement therapy and undervalued its value. Despite the fear surrounding HRT and breast cancer, the actual risks are relatively low.

  • The Womens' Health Initiative study (WHI), which played a significant role in shaping opinions, has been criticized for its flaws and limitations, resulting in skewed headlines that caused widespread anxiety.
  • Understanding the study's flaws and limitations is crucial to interpreting its results correctly.
  • The study's patient population skewed towards older women, which impacted the results and made them less applicable to menopausal women in their 50s.
  • HRT can offer various benefits, such as reducing heart disease, stroke, and osteoporosis risk.
  • The results of the study are only applicable to conjugated equine estrogens (CEE) and medroxyprogesterone acetate, a synthetic progestin.
  • Using bioidentical hormones, particularly micronized progesterone, can be a safer alternative.
  • The critical window for starting HRT, typically in the perimenopause and early menopause stages, is highlighted as an important factor in determining the benefits and risks of hormone use.

By debunking the fear surrounding hormones and breast cancer, the aim is to empower women to make informed decisions and seek guidance from hormone specialists.

Debunking the Top 3 Myths About Testosterone in Women

Saison 1 · Épisode 13

mercredi 17 avril 2024Durée 31:59

Testosterone is often misunderstood, and that can create fear about use of this very critical hormone.  It's often wrongly considered a hormone only important for men. In reality, testosterone is crucial for both men and women, with women actually having higher levels of testosterone than estrogen. Women's testosterone levels peak in their 20s and 30s, gradually declining as they age. Optimizing testosterone can alleviate various symptoms such as low libido, difficulty reaching orgasm, brain fog, fatigue, and even improve muscle mass and bone density. Contrary to popular belief, testosterone is not solely responsible for libido but also plays a significant role in many other bodily functions. It affects various organs, including the brain, heart, bladder, uterus, ovaries, vaginal tissue, skin, and bones. Testosterone promotes healthy muscle growth, aids in bone strength, reduces inflammation, and even decreases the risk of dementia. While there are no FDA-approved testosterone products for women, the use of bioidentical testosterone has been deemed safe by numerous studies and reports from patients.   In this episode, you'll be able to:
