HO! HO! After careful consideration as to what I will likely do next year — I decided to go ahead and drop the ultimate EDM Christmas dance party mix for everyone's enjoyment. Well, maybe not everyone. This special edition EDM set features a variety of genres including Electro House, Dubstep, Trance, Trap, Hip-Hop, House, and even Eurodance. It's quite a bit to digest and may not be for everyone but that's why Party Favorz has years of holiday dance remix podcasts that may be more to your liking in our back catalog. I listen to the original mix yesterday and was impressed at how I was able to get such a diverse group of songs at wildly different BPM(s) to mesh cohesively. One of the tricks is to duplicate a few songs like "All I Want For Christmas,' 'Santa Claus Is Coming To Town,' and 'Last Christmas.' To be certain there were multiple copies of 'Jingle Bells' (a song I've always hated mainly for its lack of structure) 'Christmas, Baby Please Come Home' (one of my all-time favorites especially by Darlene Love and U2), and others but in the spirit of trying to keep this set short and sweet — I went with what worked. My only disappointment was no remix of 'Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas,' where the version by the Pretenders has special meaning to me. There was a decent remix of Lou Rawls' jazzed-up version but I couldn't make it work. Overall, I'm glad I did this even though it's a one-off. Some of the songs will be included in next year's 'ULTIMATE' X-mas Dance set — especially the illusive dance mix of 'Happy X-mas (War Is Over)' by John Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band. I stumbled across this remix late last year and stowed it away for a rainy day and I'm pleased as punch to have stumbled across it. Originally, I had three bonus sets scheduled for November then whittled it down to two but I was overwhelmed with what was already on my plate so I dropped both and kept the Purple Disco Machine Legacy set. I thought I'd give y'all a heads-up that one of those sets is going to see the light of day by the end of the week. It's totally out of leftfield and wholly unexpected but it's going to be one epic party set worth your time. That's all I'm saying at the moment. Until the next time...ENJOY! The most special item is our Charlie Brown Christmas Tree that we bought back in 2001, the first year we moved to Atlanta.  We didn't have a lot of money to burn, but we were at Michael's (an arts and craft chain in the U.S.) and they had everything 50% off.  We knew we couldn't buy a real tree, and even if we did, my anal-retentive self would have had to make all the decorations by hand; something I did flawlessly with my ex, who kept all of them...bitch!  I digress.  Anyway, that also costs money.  So when I saw this little kinda ugly tree made out of dried branches and already decorated, I decided to find the money to rescue it.  Obviously, I bought it and it's been shining brightly every season ever since. Christmas trees are symbolic for the obvious reasons, but our little Charlie Brown tree symbolizes our first Christmas together and everything we did to get here.  Due to its special nature, I just thought I would share that with you guys.  Over the years we've added and removed stuff, always trying to keep it fresh, but at the end of the day, it's still our little Charlie tree. As for the mix, I put this together off the cuff last year.  King Street Sounds had put out an album called "Christmas in the House"  that was filled with some unmixed holiday deep house tunes.  So, I bought it and mixed it up tacking on a couple of holiday dance classics at the end to round it out.  This year, they have three more new tunes, but I couldn't find the originals and wasn't going to spend another $10 on something I previously owned.  Since the blog was new anyway and I figured not that many people ever had the chance to download it, I decided to bring it back and share it again. The original upload was a 96 bitrate and this one is in 320 plus I added the Mariah Carey tune at the end, thus the 'enhanced' version.  I know, usually, an enhanced release contains more than one extra song plus a DVD, but I figured a higher quality version and one new song should suffice.  Besides, I always wanted an enhanced version of my mixes...LOL.  I'm not going to say this is for everyone, because it's not.  After all, it is a true deep house.  Nevertheless, if you're a house head like me,

There were so many new remixes available — there was enough to make an EDM/Dance Club version but honestly, I'm petered out. That will be saved for the 2022 release. This set leans heavily on the Circuit side because Dario Xavier released five holiday remixes coupled with one from last year I forgot I had. Jet Boot Jack released a remix for Diana Ross' version of 'This Christmas' (originally made famous by Donny Hathaway) and Joel Dickinson (a.k.a. Thee Werq'n Bitches and formerly one-half of The Assembly with Billy Waters) remixed The Carpenters' 'Merry Christmas Darling,' which I've had for several years but never used because it was kinda dark but figured 'what the hell.' Of course, Houston's Dirty Disco dropped their annual holiday mix and this year's entry features Kiva on the Mariah Carey classic 'All I Want For Christmas." The rest of the set was rounded out by favorites from over the years including alternate versions of many of those tracks rarely or never used in a set before. Overall this is a solid effort that's bound to put a smile on the face of the most hardened Grinch. The past 30 days have been pretty rough for me and it feels like I'm being pulled in multiple directions. Couple that with the typical holiday blues and I just need a little space for a bit. Don't even get me started over the exploding cases of Covid or the new variant discovered in Africa, which will be in your neighborhood before you finish listening to this latest set of holiday cheer. No, the irony isn't dead on me [grin]. I've cut back my ambitions for December so here's what to expect: First up will be the annual Jingle Electric featuring the latest Dance Club tracks, Holiday Edition 2021 featuring the latest Circuit and Anthems tracks, and then our Year In Dance featuring the biggest Dance songs of 2021. Finally, we'll cap the year off with the annual Blow Your Own Horn 2022, which is the ultimate New Year's dance party mix that raises the roof and burns down the year that was before bringing us into a new one. I grew up in the Catholic church and for all the drama, the piss poor education, the failed attempt to teach creationism alongside actual science for which I questioned everything and was punished by Sister Ursula repeatedly, and the sexual abuse — you would think that I would shun the holiday season but I don't. I have a love-hate relationship with Christmas in that I have great memories as a kid going to Corpus Christi, TX to visit Momo and Boonpa, aunts, uncles, and cousins, and always enjoyed myself. My grandparents were non-practicing Baptists, alcoholics, and basically hell raisers, which made them a lot of fun to be around. As I got older and after their deaths, the family pretty much splintered and the era of fun and family had come to an end. By this time, I was in college in north Texas, alone, afraid, HIV+, and wondered when it was my turn to die. That never happened nor was I ever even close. I was new to the whole gay scene and had become great friends with Kurt who also happened to be from South Texas. He was a smart, bitchy queen that could slice through bullshit the minute it walked through the door. Yes, we were friends with benefits but that's about it. I distinctly remember going to meet him for lunch during the season when he worked at Express in the mall and they were playing U2's rendition of "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" over their speaker system in the store. There's a feeling of warmness I can't express that comes over me when I hear that song and think about our long-lost friendship. In fact, Kurt was the last person I stayed with in Dallas before driving nine hours back home for good. It's funny how these small insignificant fleeting moments come rushing back but here I am spilling my guts out. I've been fortunate throughout my life to be in long-term relationships with frankly, some really great guys including my partner Rick for 18 years. I'm not an easy person to get along with and am appreciative of his patience but even he has his limits and puts me in my place when I need to be taken down. I have fond holiday memories of Tommy, Eddie, and Pete that I will cherish for the rest of my life. Nevertheless, mood swings during the season are fairly typical for many people and I'm no different. I fall back on the music and the memories that filled me with happiness and sadness during the holidays and try to spread the joy to anyone needing a boost. That being said — this will definitely be the last episode of this series. There's no sense in trying to top perfection.

I went back this morning to ensure the integrity of the set and made some minor changes that only I would notice. If I'm happy — then I know y'all will be. I've got all your favorite tracks that have appeared on various iterations of X-mas Dance over the years and scooped several new entries. I also added a few that only appeared once over the years. I also want to give a HUGE shout-out to our good friends from Mark D and JD Arnold a.k.a. Dirty Disco for sending me an advance copy of this year's entry into the holiday dance music landscape, "Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow" by the fabulous Debby Holiday. I've been begging them to update the Weather Girls classic "Dear Santa (Bring Me A Man This Christmas," but they completely forgot. Mark is all on board and promised to deliver their version next year. In the interim, I came across this fantastic version by Raquela in my DJ service and ran with it. The vocals are spot on and her version delivers a circuit-friendly re-work that stays true to the original, even if it could use a bit more energy. Overall, I think this year's X-mas Dance is the best one I've put together to date. From the serious and the solemn to the camp (without being too over the top) — this delivers the cheer to brighten up your holidays. I've got the rest of December all mapped out and may even try to squeeze in the final Ultimate 80's Dance Mix this next week. Expect a head-spinning succession of new releases (including the highly anticipated Year In Dance and Blow Your Own Horn) by the end of the month. FYI, all past Christmas dance mixes are still available on the site by clicking here. I've been holding out for some new entries and only three came through. Out of those, only one was worth adding. I was so looking forward to Dirty Disco's release this year that when it dropped, I was disappointed if not severely heartbroken. I was hoping they'd do a remake of the Weather Girls classic "Dear Santa (Bring Me A Man This Christmas)" which is so up their alley. Unfortunately, they put out a lackluster dance mix of "Last Christmas" by Brenda Reed, which is not some of her best work, so I took a pass and brought back the Young Divas version of "Dear Santa" and a George Michael bootleg of "Last Christmas." I kept this year's entry tight and remastered several older mixes to bring them up to today's standards. While many of the tracks have been recycled from previous efforts, isn't that what Christmas music is all about? That is, hearing your favorite tunes year after year by your favorite artists and never getting sick of them. Throw in a few newbies or alternate versions and you got yourself a little holiday party rocking around the Christmas tree. I for one never get sick of hearing the Eagles take on "Please Come Home For Christmas", or the Pretenders' version of "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas," or even U2's "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)." These are just a couple of my personal favorites. At the end of the day, many of the major artists who do release updated versions of holiday classics, typically don't invest in commissioning dance mixes for those tunes. The last major ones we've gotten were from Kelly Clarkson, Mariah Carey, and Leona Lewis which are included here. Even then, that was several years ago. That's unfortunate because there really IS a yearning for these tracks to be remixed. That being said, I am NOT about to ruin your holiday season by not creating some holiday magic for my followers. Who am I to scrooge you out of the most wonderful time of the year? As Party Favorz winds down our 10th year, I found myself with some extra time and decided to pull together that one killer holiday dance set that I felt I had not yet achieved. X-mas Dance Mix 2K17 achieves that goal and more. Pulling together my favorite seasonal dance classics like Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas," Band Aid's "Do They Know It's Christmas," Christine Aguilera's "The Christmas Song," and Kristine W's "Oh Holy Night" while adding a couple of new mixes like Dirty Disco & Jeanie Tracy's "Santa Baby," and George Michael's (a.k.a. Wham!) "Last Christmas" coupled with smooth transitions that are really hard to achieve on a mix of songs like these, you have the makings of the ULTIMATE holiday dance mix or one that I can finally say...YES! instead of "this will suffice."
