WFP with Dawn Thomson
Season 3 · Episode 6
mercredi 16 avril 2025 • Duration 42:36
This episode is with Dawn Thomson, a long time friend to Tribe Porty, as she was one of the original TEDxPortobello speakers in 2015.
Dawn is an energy psychologist and relationships coach. Dawn’s work focuses on love, sex, and self. Helping people navigate relationships with others and themselves, especially when they feel stuck in dynamics that no longer work.
Dawn is super fired up about her new work called Fancy Yourself– where she encourages people to start loving and fancying themselves more both physically and emotionally (accepting and valuing themselves) as well as having the confidence to back themselves to get the life they want (self-belief).
In this episode, we speak about relationships; how to have better ones, when to leave some and why we all should develop a deep love for a relationship with ourselves.
A gentle heads-up, this conversation includes discussions about sex and teh mention of sexual trauma.

Working For Progress with Reema Vadoliya
Season 2 · Episode 7
mardi 23 avril 2024 • Duration 36:51
Our conversation with Reema Vadoliya is a rerecord, after some sound issues. I was a little nervous about it sounding rehearsed but actually we got into some rich conversation quicker as a result. We think you will enjoy hearing Reema's story.
Reema is a passionate business founder, gifted storyteller and tireless advocate for inclusion in data. By challenging audiences to reshape their perception of data as a dreary necessity, she draws out the real human stories which organically empower intentional inclusion in data and beyond.
After seven years and multiple roles in data, Reema decided to launch her new, trailblazing company, People of Data. Through this organisation she seeks to create a world in which data can be used as a springboard for understanding the real people that data represents.
Reema is confident speaking about data strategy, analytical exploration, data collection and governance. Her talks offer a passionate manifesto for a world in which Equality, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging (EDIB) are the beating heart of all data handling and usage.
An experienced speaker not afraid of digging into the gristle of the difficult topics, Reema’s talks push beyond a 1D (one demographic) view of data and offer a refreshing, multi-dimensional consideration of how humanised data can pioneer a brighter future.

mercredi 17 janvier 2024 • Duration 29:30
Joining us today is artist Peter Jones. Peter has had a studio based in Tribe for many years now and works mainly in watercolour. It was great to speak with Peter today and learn more about him.
Peter’s interests include buildings and place and has published a series of books that celebrate the built environments of Kirkcudbright, Portobello, Falkland, and most recently Craigmillar & Niddrie.
Through funding from creative scotland, Peter recently collaborated with Craigmillar Art Club to launch a book and an exhibition as part of Art Walk Porty. Facilitating workshops formed a part of this project and workshops have now become a key element of his creative practice, with a series of sketching workshops at the National Museum of Scotland with Bipolar Edinburgh now into its second run. Everyone can draw, and coming together in a group can add to the wellbeing benefits of this mindful activity.
Peter is a quiet, calm and lovely man and we very much appreciated this conversation. You can find more about Peter and his work on his website and instagram.

Working For Progress with Chris Hellawell
Season 2 · Episode 1
vendredi 8 décembre 2023 • Duration 23:55
Welcome to Season 2! Today we welcome Chris Hellawell.
Chris and I met at the School for Social Entrepreneurs Scotland programme, way back in 2014 when we were both setting up our enterprises. Now Chris has a tool library empire and has a workshop at Tribe Porty.
Chris Hellawell is the Director of the Edinburgh Tool Library, an organisation that aims to create resilient communities by harnessing the wealth of resources that already exists within those communities. This includes tools, equipment, space, volunteers, skills and knowledge. They share tools and equipment via tool lending libraries, and teach skills to their members and outreach groups of people who have historically been excluded from workshop and creative spaces. Since their beginnings in 2015, ETL have saved their members over £2million and supported over 100 community groups and charities through their outreach programmes.

Working For Progress Season 1 Wrap Up
Season 1 · Episode 13
jeudi 28 septembre 2023 • Duration 25:14
We have recorded 11 episodes and a trailer, learned how to edited, uploaded and share. High 5 team WFP!
Alice and I have enjoyed the conversations so much. I think in the logistics of starting a podcast, I had forgotten why I wanted to do it in the first place. I love love love good conversation. It is the life blood for me. The more vulnerable, the better (I would like to delve a bit deeper in season 2).
What things stand out for us from season 1?
Let’s talk about our trailer. A bit cringe to watch back but also, we started out pretty good. True to what we find important and our community.
I have to admit that I haven’t listened back to an entire episode yet…but that’s your job, right Alice? Well, actually I was listening to one the other day and my son quickly made fun of me and said I must love myself to listen to my own podcast… can’t win. It was the first time I had listened back.
We had great chats with Bob, Lorna, Osbert, Nasim, Kaigan, Rob, Adam, Jo, Rachel, Inessa and Dane.
Each one brought their unique story to the conversation, a bit of where they have come from in terms of significant life moments which have impacted on what they are doing today. Thinking back, it was often a person or an interaction which profoundly impacted a decision or direction. Sometimes only with hindsight do you notice such influences.
Common threads- community, values and doing good work.
Most of all, it makes me so very grateful for the communities of Tribe Porty and Keystone. I have met the most incredible people through these communities. And by no means is that just a line. I mean it. It has been the gift of a lifetime. From our beginnings of Tribe Porty through TEDxPortobello, the people that have entered my life through these spaces are brilliant. From kick ass women leaders, to the biggest hearted men and fathers; kind humans of the best kind.
We hope you enjoyed it too. Now on to Season 2
