403: Christine Lakin on The Value of Repetition When No One Else is Watching, Embracing Slow and Steady Development, Playing Al Lambert on "Step by Step," and Letting Ego Lead vs. Staying Teachable

mercredi 28 août 2024Duration 01:21:10

If you grew up in the 90's, and watched TGIF every Friday night, I think you're going to love today's episode. Christine Lakin joins us today. Best known to us as Al Lambert from Step by Step, my conversation with Christine is anything but on the surface. It's intelligent, encouraging, and really challenging, as we discuss the value of repetition when no one else is watching and why embracing slow and steady development is the key to growth in life. Of course, we do have fun today, because, for many of you, she was your first TV crush. So, we get under the hood of what it was like to play Al on Step by Step and so much more.

402: Preston Perry on Relearning Emotional Safety after Trauma, Why Grief is a Gift to Receive, How Therapy Has Become Trendy, Sexual Addiction, False Teachers, and Why Suffering Purifies Us

mercredi 21 août 2024Duration 01:05:44

Preston Perry joins us today and we're taking a deep dive into relearning emotional safety after trauma, why grief is a gift to receive, how therapy has become trendy (but not automatically effective), and why suffering purifies and strengthens us. Preston has such a unique take on life. Growing up, the streets of Chicago were his home, and it was there that he encountered all sorts of people who had their own versions of the truth. That's where Preston discovered not only the importance of the truth but how to tell the truth in a way that speaks to someone’s heart and leads them to freedom and transformation.

397: Lee Cummings on Why Self-Deception is the Worst Kind of Deception, Why Fear is a Vacuum, and Why Facts and Truth Aren't the Same Thing

vendredi 14 juin 2024Duration 01:01:09

Lee Cummings is back and this week, we're talking about why self-deception is the worst kind of deception, why fear is a vacuum to suffocate our potential, and why facts and truth aren't the same thing. You see, the greatest challenge you and I face, according to Lee, is staying awake in this present cultural moment of chaos. And so if the enemy can’t lull you into spiritual apathy, deception is often his weapon of choice against you. And if he can deceive you, he can keep you from living out your purpose—God’s purpose for your life.

318: Tyler Staton on Where Prayer Becomes Real and Reviving Prayer in a Culture Where Everyone's Just "Spiritual"

mercredi 23 novembre 2022Duration 53:09

This week, Tyler Staton joins us to talk about reviving a culture of prayer in a post-Christian world. Prayer is the source of Jesus's most astonishing miracles and the subject of Jesus's most audacious promises, and yet, most people--even most Bible-believing Christians--find prayer to be boring, obligatory, disappointing, confusing, or, most often, all of the above. If you've ever felt this way, today's conversation is hopefully going to turn your conceptions around.

317: Toni Collier on Healing from Trauma, EMDR, Dumping "Christian Buddhism," and Why You Can't Heal Yourself By Yourself

mercredi 16 novembre 2022Duration 01:03:44

This week on the podcast, author and popular speaker, Toni Collier joins us to talk about healing from trauma, EMDR, dumping spirituality and "Christian Buddhism," and why you can't heal yourself by yourself. After a lifetime of childhood trauma, navigating a toxic marriage and divorce, an unhealthy church, becoming a single parent and feeling betrayed, Toni felt shame-filled and used. Because of her brokenness, she believed she was unworthy and unqualified to have a life of meaning and purpose. Many of us have felt the same thing if we're honest. So, in today's conversation, we'll unpack the truth that leads to freedom.

mercredi 26 octobre 2022Duration 01:04:37

About a year ago, I watched a documentary on Netflix called Seven Days Out, and was captivated by one of the episodes featuring a restaurateur named Will Guidara. Add to that Will is married to renowned pastry chef, Christina Tosi, also seen on Netflix's Chef's Table. This conversation was one of my favorites this year, so I'm excited to share it with you in just a moment.
