Ep 137 Have you ever wished you could curate more magic into your daily life? Building a routine is so important but how do we take our routines a step further to ritualize the mundane? We're all guilty of rushing through our days to maximize productivity, yet slowing wayyyy down allows us to find meaning in the in-between moments. In this episode, I'm taking you through some of the special daily & seasonal rituals that have helped me mark important moments in time, incorporate prayer and mindfulness to really understand what's happening in my life, and shifted my mindset to see the beauty of what is in front of me. We think that the impactful moments in life have to all be large but the real moments are as small as appreciating warm socks, climbing into a made bed, or gentle movement. Turning an everyday task into something sacred can be the first step to shifting our minds to a state of gratitude. Through developing a ritual around daily and seasonal practices we can nurture a deeper relationship with ourselves, and our ancestors to make our day-to-day life just a little bit sweeter.

Ep. 135 Do you feel like there's often a rebellious, childlike part of you calling the shots despite your best efforts to take action aligned with your goals? Does she procrastinate to the point of self-sabotage, or go for the box of cookies when you know a solid meal is what you need? Over the last four years, I've slowly learned how to answer the question, "what do I need right now?" — sometimes it's good old discipline, other times it's connection or rest. I found that I got to recreate my own "inner mother" who was capable of being honest and curious enough to make the call from a place of trust and self knowing,  but it wasn't easy to get there. I'm walking you through every step I had to go through to move from self-criticism to self-parenting.

None of us knew anything back then. I was trying to figure this virus out in real time as my mom was being put on a ventilator and my dad was terrified for his life. I was called to rely on everything I've ever learned as a humbled herbalist with a newfound, deeper appreciation for Western Medicine to get them through.

This is the next chapter of my growth. I told you guys What's the Juice would be an extension of our community, so Nick and I are here today, on the mic, recording all the wild details about how relentless patient advocacy, experimental drugs, round the clock prayer, and a few earth-side angels saved both my parents lives. You'll hear how facing the potential loss of my loved ones changed me as a person forever and helped me to realize my own mortality (and thus, what's truly important in life). You'll learn how hard it was to advocate for them in the hospital system, and why finding out what was in my mom's feeding tube formula (hint: corn) helped me make decisions that were better for her health and survival. Today's episode is an honest yet daringly playful guide to HOW you can let go of fear and start your new story. If you've been feeling stuck or frustrated, like you're standing in your own way but just can't take the first step, this is for you. Katharine Hargreaves, founder of The Fearless Experiment teaches us (with full-on gusto) that so much of our fear is actually just blocked excitement. That there's a part of us just dying to run and jump into the unknown even if we find a million reasons not to. She explains her method of challenging yourself to simply take action by (a) starting with the smallest first step possible, and (b) telling people you trust to hold you accountable. She explains why pressuring yourself to be the "problem solver" is really just a mechanism of survival that we got stuck in along the way; that we should care a lot more about getting to KNOW the problem first rather than judging how well we employ a solution. We need to learn how to hold ourselves in the mystery… experimentation is valuable play, and if we could stop taking ourselves so seriously, we'd do it a lot more. Sometimes the solution you're seeking looks a lot different than originally expected, but you'll never know until you act.

I'm discussing the two questions I had to ask myself to start this journey: who am I when everything else is stripped away (and what am I willing to do to meet her), and who am I when I let the pain I'm avoiding change me? I'll be sharing the pros and cons – including the way this plant initially supported me, the confusion between its role in stress relief and helping us put off changing stressful conditions, tools I used during the quitting period, Traditional Chinese Medicine's view of habitual use, why this plant helps us to access our creativity, and how to believe that you can still be creative without it. Lastly, I'm sharing my relationship with the plant today and whether or not it still has a place in my life.
