This episode features the return of Luxa Strata! It's been a few years since Luxa was on the show so it is an incredible honor to have her back!

Luxa is the host of one of my personal favorite shows, The Lux Occult Podcast. As I say in this episode, each one of her episodes come together like a cool old school variety radio show. This one just happens to be all about the occult, magic, trance, music, bibliomancy breaks, and interviews! Please go check it out on all the platforms. 

Luxa is also at the forefront of experimenting with Chaos Magic, spirituality, and building community. The Green mushroom Project is growing and going strong. The new project within that community is called Void House. That's where Luxa and others are exploring Consent and how that can be a driving mandate and value in magical communities and magical work. There's more. So much more! The experiments are one of the great things about the Green Mushroom Project! 

This episode was a lot of fun! We covered a large area of ideas, inspiration, experiments, and what it even means when we say Self.

Luxa Strata is an artist, magican, and host of the Lux Occult podcast: a show about the intersections between Magic, Art, Philosophy, and Science as viewed through the lens of a Chaos Magic. Jason Miller - the Strategic Sorcerer himself - is BACK! Weiser publications has turned his work into a couple classics! Protection and Reversal Magic got an update and rereleased. Sorcerer's Secrets got an update, a new title, and rereleased. That is now called Real Sorcery!

Mortellus is the High Priestex of the Coven of Leaves in Rutherfordton NC, a Gardnerian Coven operating an Outer Court training group who like to say that they are a bubbling cauldron of bitter esoterica slithering their way through Western North Carolina. Additionally, they are a Mortician, Author, Medium, and Necromancer. Their book of pagan death rites and rituals for Llewellyn is set to come out Winter of 2020 with a second un-announced project in the works. Currently, they resides on 3 acres that are hastily becoming overgrown again with their husband, daughter, two year old boy girl twins, two chickens, and one really, really ridiculous dog. They are the author of a book on pagan death rites and rituals titled "Do I have to Wear Black?", and also The Bones Fall in a Spiral: An Introduction to Necromancy and the Magic of Death.

These two came together and their inspiration to the Waite-Smith Deck that was created by the artist Pamela Coleman Smith. You will hear the history if this world changing Tarot Deck, why they were so inspired, and how they may have actually made the deck finally look the way Pamela wanted to see it. 

I highly recommend getting The Weiser Tarot deck! It's my favorite new way to see the Waite-Smith deck!

First Judika:

Born in New York City, Judika Illes is a lifelong lover, student, and practitioner of the magical arts. She is the author of numerous books devoted to magic spells, witchcraft, saints, spirits, and the paranormal including the best-selling Encyclopedia of 5000 Spells and Encyclopedia of Spirits. Her other books include Pure Magic: A Complete Course in Spellcasting, Magic When You Need It, Encyclopedia of Witchcraft, and Daily Magic, a perpetual calendar of spells, rituals, and feasts. Judika is also the curator of two books of occult fiction. Someday she will publish some occult fiction of her own. Judika is a certified aromatherapist and has been a professional tarot card reader since 1988. Judika has worked as an editor for Weiser Books since 2015. Before that, she worked for The Witches’ Almanac. She teaches about spell-casting and other topics in the US, internationally, and virtually. Kathryn Sky-Peck has been a life-long student of the esoteric arts. Currently Creative Director at Red Wheel/Weiser, she has been with Weiser books off and on since 1981 when she first began working with the publisher. She is an award-winning poet, a fine artist, and—when the grace of youth allowed it—a modern dancer. She sees all these art forms interconnected, finding color and movement in words and music in poetry. She has been the sole proprietor of Sky Peck Design for the last 27 years, where she maintains a select group of clients, most notably The Witches Almanac and Ibis Press. In her role as book development director at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, she authored Who Has Seen the Wind? and The Poet’s Delay, both compilations of poetry based on the museum’s art collection. She loves the anonymity of being in the background, from where she’s had the honor to work with, support, and learn from some of the occult world’s best-known authors. Not a fan of social media, she lives at the edge of a New England wood with her cat Milo.

It's been one hell of a journey! Returning once again to the show to kick off Season 7 is the one and only Mat Auryn! Mat Auryn is the multiple-award-winning author of the internationally best-selling Psychic Witch: A Metaphysical Guide to Meditation, Magick, and Manifestation, translated in over ten languages. He is a witch, an occult teacher, a highly sought-after speaker, and a retired professional psychic based in the Bay Area of California. This episode features a very special guest! A real interview with a Witch from the late 1900's! Thorn Mooney!

Thorn and I cover everything from the Paranormal, her dissertation research, religions, mental health, Witchcraft, virtues, community, and plenty of spots where we make light of something for a laugh! Did I mention the late 1900's? We shared some stories of our early days and the challenges pre-internet Paganism presented. This was an excellent conversation with insight and fun alike! 

Thorn has been an active voice in the wider world of Paganism and Witchcraft for a long time. Her approach to topics involves questions that dive deeper than your typical intro material and 101 books. In fact, Thorn wrote a book designed to get beyond the 101 topics. I highly recommend that one! It is The Witch's Path: Advancing Your Craft at Every Level. Thorn has also written a great book for anyone wishing to pursue or even understand Gardnerian Witchcraft from a real Priestess of the Tradition: Traditional Wicca: A Seeker's Guide Kindle Edition. She also got involved with the Llewellyn Sun Sign series with Ivo Dominguez co-writing Taurus Witch: Unlock the Magic of Your Sun Sign (The Witch's Sun Sign Series Book 2). And as we talk about in the show, Thorn has a new book coming out for the person in your life that isn't a Witch but you still want or need them to understand you. She holds master's degrees in both religious studies and English literature, and is completing her PhD in religion and culture at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Born and raised in a family lineage of brujos (witchdoctors, healers, sorcerers), Papa Hector started training as a brujo in 1989 and initiated in his family lineages of 21 Divisions and Sanse. He was raised by his grandmother, Dona Juana Acevedo, bruja and espiritista. In 2003, Papa Hector was initiated into Haitian Voodoo as a houngan asogwe, a high priest of the Asson lineage. He lived and apprenticed for years in Haiti under a number of houngans and mambos.

Welcome to Weird Web Radio! Happy Halloween & Blessed Samhain!

This is my annual treat to my audience. A Halloween gift of bonus audio that only the Patreon membership gets to hear! This year I chose two to share. My approach to all I do is both informed and driven by my magical practice and spirit contacts. I believe that magic, sorcery, shamanry, witchcraft and related practices are the root of human spiritual culture. As Western societies grow more fundamentalist (particularly in the USA), in their expressions of both religion and materialism, there has been strong pressure to move away from the magical approaches which are, I believe, the birthright of humans. If we humans are indeed in some way special, I would like to think that this is not all in our material progress as expressed in rampant industrialism (and it’s co-mingled social, psychic, and planetary degradation), but in our ability to directly interface with the vast array of beings and experiences that make up the world we inhabit, both this material Earth we dwell upon as well as the Otherworlds of the spirits. My aim as author, sorcerer, and artist is to facilitate this communication between ourselves and these others.

Morgan Daimler is a witch who has been a polytheist since the early ’90′s. Following a path inspired by the Fairy Faith blended with neopagan witchcraft, Morgan teaches classes on Irish myth and magical practices, fairies, and related subjects in the United States and internationally. Morgan has been published in multiple anthologies as well as in Witches & Pagans magazine and Pagan Dawn magazine. We are kicking off Season 6 of Weird Web Radio with the amazing Via Hedera!

Via's Book Folkloric American Witchcraft and The Multicultural Experience: A Crucible at the Crossroads is a game changer in Witchcraft today. Via open a doorway into her worldview as a woman, a witch, a person of mixed ethnicity, and how this all comes together in her journey through life. It's a beautiful vision of diversity and inclusivity. I can't recommend that you read this book enough.

I sincerely hope you enjoy this episode. Via is one of my favorite guests I've ever been honored to spend time with as a host. I say something in the show and I absolutely mean it. When Via speaks, people run out to find a way to become Witches.

This is the Season 5 FINALE! How exciting?!? It's been a wonderful ride through the last five years to bring you all the entertainment and insight. I've learned a lot about myself, podcasting, audio production along with all the self growth as I learn new things from my guests. Thank you all for being along for the ride!

This episode features Luxa Strata! I first heard Luxa on her own show as she was interviewing Aidan Wachter. I fell instantly in love with her style and approach. Thank goodness it's finally remedied. I believe Luxa is an up and coming very important voice in the world of Magic and Chaos Magic specifically. It was an honor and pure joy to interview her.

Luxa Strata is a magician, creator, and host of the Lux Occult podcast, a show which focuses on the intersections between Magick, Art, Philosophy and Science as viewed through the context of a Chaos Magick practice, and co-host of Ad Hoc History and Smut’s Up. Luxa is also the architect of The Green Mushroom hypho-sigil project, a large scale, ongoing group working focused on building connections, fostering creativity, and empowering individuals to become more agentic through the use of magick and esoteric technology; as well as to Resist through integrity, responsibility, respect, and reciprocity.

Welcome to Weird Web Radio!

This episode is the launch of a new special series called Road Spirits! This series will be all about magical people having magical adventures and what they discover along the way. Why? We all travel. We all go on vacations. Well, we try and hope. Maybe this will inspire you. Traveling as magical people takes on extra depth. We look for the mysteries, the spiritual places, and the history. We find ourselves in strange encounters too. This series is my way of making these conversations more important.

First up is Aidan Wachter! Aidan has done a LOT of traveling. He insists it's moving - and he is pretty much a Nomad - but he doesn't stay anywhere long. He has some amazing stories from the road and the places he called home through out his life. I hope you enjoy the journey he takes us on!

In other words, dealing with the spirits and places you're leaving behind as well as meeting the new ones and how to find them. Jason Miller (Inominandum) has devoted 30 years to studying practical magic in its many forms. He is the author of the now classic Protection and Reversal Magick as well as several other books. Welcome to Weird Web Radio!

This episode features Diana Helmuth! Diana spent a year exploring Witchcraft and documented her journey for all of us to enjoy! This is exactly the kind of book I wish we had more of in Paganism and the Occult. Her story telling skills are excellent. I hope you enjoy the honesty she exhibits all along the way. The good, the bad, and the Hawk she wasn't sure about. Diana's relative newness to all of this allowed some exploration of doubt and skepticism too. 

DIANA'S BIO:

Diana Helmuth writes about our desires to be transported, our urge to reconnect with nature, and how to keep going when you feel like a fool. Her first book, How to Suffer Outside, won the National Outdoor Book Award for best instructional. Her second book, The Witching Year: A Memoir of Earnest Fumbling Through Modern Witchcraft was featured on NPR, reviewed in the New York Times and nominated for a Goodreads Choice Award for Best Memoir. Her freelance work can be found in various anthologies, travel guides, and humor magazines. She studied anthropology and Arabic at UC Berkeley, and can often be caught moonlighting in Silicon Valley’s start-up land, or producing the occasional podcast. She was born and raised in Northern California.

Ivo Domínguez, Jr. is a visionary, and a practitioner of a variety of esoteric disciplines. He has been active in Wicca and the Pagan community since 1978, has been teaching since 1982. Ivo was a founding member, and a past High Priest, of Keepers of the Holly Chalice, the first coven of the Assembly of the Sacred Wheel a Wiccan Tradition. He currently serves as one of the Elders of the Assembly of the Sacred Wheel, a Wiccan syncretic tradition that draws inspiration from Astrology, Qabala, the Western Magickal Tradition and the folk religions of Europe. His techniques and insights are rooted in a synthesis of traditional metaphysical teachings, modern science, and memories from past lives. He has taught at many gatherings, conferences, and venues across the United States and abroad. Ivo is also a professional astrologer who has studied astrology since 1980 and has been offering consultations and readings since 1988. Ivo has been published in numerous periodicals and is the author of The Four Elements of the Wise, Keys To Perception: A Practical Guide to Psychic Development, Practical Astrology for Witches and Pagans: Using the Planets and the Stars for Effective Spellwork, Rituals, and Magickal Work; Casting Sacred Space: The Core Of All Magickal Work; Spirit Speak: Knowing and Understanding Spirit Guides, Ancestors, Ghosts, Angels, and the Divine; Beneath the Skins and more in forthcoming. As always, I'm your host Lonnie Scott! This episode features one of my all time favorite humans, Patrick Keller. Patrick is the host of one of my favorite podcasts titled The Big Séance Podcast. We cover how Patrick got started podcasting and paranormal investigating while we also dig into his own personal spiritual beliefs and background. There's more. The energy of this episode was fantastic. I told Patrick he's stuck with a friend for life.  He's genuinely one of the best people you'll ever get a chance to know. 

Patrick's Bio:

Patrick Keller is an educator, speaker, and the host of the Big Séance Podcast, which is a forum for “paranerds” to have an open dialogue about all things paranormal. He has been a featured podcaster on Coast to Coast AM with George Noory and is a member of The Podcast Academy. Some of Patrick’s notable guests have included Chip Coffey, Loyd Auerbach, Amy Bruni, Adam Berry, Rosemary Ellen Guiley, Troy Taylor, Guy Lyon Playfair, Karen A. Dahlman, and one of the world’s most investigated and celebrated mystifiers, Uri Geller.

He founded the Missouri Spirit Seekers, a paranormal research team, and he has spent a lot of time experimenting with spirit communication tools and techniques, such as EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena). One of Patrick’s passions is cemetery photography, and spending hours at a time capturing the natural beauty of the cycle of life and death in a place typically stricken with grief.

His education includes a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from the Conservatory of Music at the University of Missouri – Kansas City and a Master’s Degree in Music Education from the University of Missouri – St. Louis.

Welcome to Weird Web Radio!

This episode features our great friend John Beckett! This is the third appearance on the show for John, and once again he delivers with excellent insightful discussion. We spend a great deal of time discussing Tower Time. This is a term John uses to describe the way we are facing serious challenges in our world while also recognizing what seems to be a huge spike in activity from The Other. John Beckett grew up in Tennessee with the woods right outside his back door. Wandering through them gave him a sense of connection to Nature and to a certain Forest God. John is a Druid in the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids, a member of Ár nDraíocht Féin (ADF), a member of the Denton Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans, and a former Vice President of CUUPS Continental. His blog “Under the Ancient Oaks” is part of the Pagan Channel of the multifaith website Patheos. John has been writing, speaking, teaching, and leading public rituals since 2003. His books The Path of Paganism (2017) and Paganism In Depth (2019) are published by Llewellyn Worldwide. John lives in the Dallas – Fort Worth area and earns his keep as an engineer.

I want to let you all know that I and my family are fighting off the Covid virus. As of today - November 23rd - I'm on day 10. Next up on the Bonus Halloween treat is Ty Gowen! Ty was the featured guest on Episode 37 which released on July 10th, 2019.

Ty is one of the cast and crew of the Paranormal Series Haunt Me. This show is my favorite of all the available paranormal investigation shows available. Why? They are a great team, genuine people, and they use occult methods with their investigations! Ty uses Runes. We all know those are near and dear to my own heart.

The Haunt Me site says Ty in The Analyst:

He is also listed among the crew as a Producer and Location Scout for the show.

If you're really paying attention, you will notice what these two have in common! It struck me as I was doing the production for this episode that Ty and Ivo made this choice and I didn't notice until I put it all together!

This episode features Patricia Lafayllve! Patricia - aka Patty - is a huge part of the heart and soul of Inclusive Heathenism and The Troth. Patty and I discuss her early days into Paganism and the ways that led her into Heathenism, practicing Seidhr, the Goddess Freyja, dealing with spirits and so much more!

Patty has also been the author of two amazing and essential books for modern Heathens, and honestly, anyone who is interested in the Goddess Freyja. Her book A Practical Heathen's Guide to Asatru is the first book I recommend to anyone new to Heathenry. Her book Freyja, Lady, Vanadis: An Introduction to the Goddess is the best resource on this great Goddess in existence. I can only imagine the thousands upon thousands of people who have found their way to Freyja thanks to this book.

I have the honor of knowing Patrica personally through our work together in The Troth. I'm comfortable saying she's one of the very best people anyone of any faith could ever encounter along their journey.  Her bio:

He is the co-host of The Nordic Mythology Podcast alongside Daniel Farrand from Horns of Odin. I highly recommend that show! Mathias also has a new book out titled Ásatrú for Beginners: A Modern Heathen's Guide to the Ancient Northern Way which I had the honor to review prior to publication and also highly recommend.

Dr. Nordvig's Bio:

Dr. Mathias Nordvig is a visiting assistant professor of Nordic and Arctic studies at the Department of Germanic and Slavic Languages and Literatures at University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder). He teaches subjects on Viking history, Nordic mythology, folklore, Arctic culture and society, and Danish language. Dr. Nordvig earned his PhD in Nordic mythology in 2014 at Aarhus University in Denmark, his native country. He moved to Colorado in 2015.

Dr. Nordvig has a BA. degree in Nordic languages and literatures with a minor in Viking Studies. His MA. degree includes studies in medieval Icelandic history and saga literature, Viking Age archaeology, Nordic mythology, and Old Norse language. He wrote his PhD dissertation on the relationship between Old Norse myth and the Icelandic environment. The dissertation is titled: Of Fire and Water. The Old Norse Mythical Worldview in and Eco-mythological Perspective.

He has taught in Danish primary and middle school, high school, Scandinavian folk high school (folkehøjskole), open university, and in college. College courses he has taught include: The Reception of Nordic Mythology, Viking Age Religion and Myth, and The Harvard Viking Summer School at Aarhus University. At CU Boulder, he has taught Vikings, Norse Mythology, Scandinavian Folk Narrative, Medieval Icelandic Sagas, Scandinavian Culture and Society, 19th and 20th Nordic Literature, and Arctic Culture and Society.

His research interests include: myth and environment, pre-Christian Scandinavian religion and mythology, Old Norse memory culture, indigenous studies, Inuit, and Sámi folklore, mythology, and religion. He also takes an interest in contemporary cultural use of Nordic mythology and the Viking Age in media, music, and Neo-paganism.

Dr. Nordvig has lived most of his life in Denmark, but spent a considerable part of his childhood in Greenland. He has also lived in Iceland, and frequently travels to Iceland, Denmark, and Norway.

I asked AIdan for his bio these days. Here's what he had to say:

My approach to all I do is both informed and driven by my magical practice and spirit contacts. I believe that magic, sorcery, shamanry, witchcraft and related practices are the root of human spiritual culture. As Western societies grow more fundamentalist (particularly in the USA), in their expressions of both religion and materialism, there has been strong pressure to move away from the magical approaches which are, I believe, the birthright of humans. If we humans are indeed in some way special, I would like to think that this is not all in our material progress as expressed in rampant industrialism (and it’s co-mingled social, psychic, and planetary degradation), but in our ability to directly interface with the vast array of beings and experiences that make up the world we inhabit, both this material Earth we dwell upon as well as the Otherworlds of the spirits. My aim as author, sorcerer, and artist is to facilitate this communication between ourselves and these others.

Laura's BIO:

Laura Tempest Zakroff (she/they) is a professional artist, author, performer, and Modern Traditional Witch based in New England. She holds a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design, and her artwork has received awards and honors worldwide. Her work embodies myth and the esoteric through her drawings and paintings, jewelry, talismans, and other designs. Laura is the author of several bestselling Llewellyn books including Weave the Liminal, Sigil Witchery, Visual Alchemy, and Anatomy of a Witch, as well as the artist and author of the Anatomy of a Witch Oracle and The Liminal Spirits Oracle. Laura edited The New Aradia: A Witch’s Handbook to Magical Resistance and the Gorgon's Guide to Magical Resistance from Revelore Press. Laura is the creative force behind several community events and teaches workshops online and worldwide.

This episode still has me dancing on skulls of my critics! Meet Richard Kadrey! 

Richard is the author of one of my all time favorite urban fantasy series Sandman Slim. That series is a main focus throughout our conversation.  We dig into how he comes up with a concept like a magic wielding hitman escaping from Hell.  We talk about the challenges of writing a long series, dealing with rejection as a writer, his creative process, favorite landmarks in LA, Tattoos, Lucifer, Demons, and more! This one is jam packed!

I warn you. There are major spoilers for some plot points in Sandman Slim in this episode. That said, you won't be disappointed if you start reading after you listen to this episode. There's a complete world of magic and mayhem awaiting you in that series.

Richard was a great guest. He really opened up about his thoughts and process. His attitude and mindset are real. He's the kind of guy you could meet at a bar doing shots of whiskey and talking about the nuances of living in Hell. My kind of people.

Richard Kadrey is the New York Times bestselling author of the Sandman Slim supernatural noir series. Sandman Slim was included in Amazon’s “100 Science Fiction & Fantasy Books to Read in a Lifetime,” and is in production as a feature film. This episode brings back the man, the myth, the living legend Jason Miller!

There are few people living or dead that have had the amount of impact on my life that Jason could claim. I've been using and abusing Jason's approach to Sorcery for many years. This episode is all about yet another course that has reshaped some of my practice and given me another complete system to explore. This is The Sorcery of Hekate course! I've been part of the cycle over the last seven months. There's much I could say, but I left most of that up to Jason.

My own experience has transformed my relationship and understanding of Hekate. She's been a minor part of my work for years. Now she's central force in my life. The techniques taught in the course have become a good part of my own system now. The spirits in this course are a huge discovery! In fact, the lessons of the Eight - students and alumni will know what I mean - helped me solve the mystery of other spirits in my Sorcery. There is so much to unpack in the course. You'll be glad you did it!

This episode features Professional Photographer Darragh Mason. Darragh has traveled to India to explore the macabre world of the Aghori Hindus. His stories from this adventure alone could make a great movie. He doesn't stop there. He goes on to explore the mysteries of the Djiin and possession.

This is one of the most fascinating interviews I've conducted!

Here is his bio:

Darragh Mason is a multi-award winning photographer and researcher. He studied photography at Dublin City University and travelled in Asia, Europe and America, writing articles and publishing photography. He has worked in post-war countries such as Bosnia & Herzegovina and Kosovo. Darragh is best known for his work on the Aghori Hindu sect and work surrounding the Djinn.

His work was selected in the top 50 images for the Travel Photographer Asia 2015. In 2017 he received a Performance award in the 'Humanity photography awards' in association with China Folklore Association and UNESCO , was an exhibiting NOA 2017 artist and received a commendation in the British Life Photography Awards 2017.

Darragh runs a podcast on Folklore, Magick and the Spirit World called 'Spirit Box' and his Youtube channel has similar tremendously exciting content and some of his photographic work.
