The haunted recording of My Chemical Romance's 'The Black Parade' (revisited)

mardi 29 octobre 2024Duration 20:47

Send us a text

This episode was originally published on 10/25/21.

Tyler rides solo for this week's episode, but continues with the Spooky Season theme. And what better way to continue it than by talking about the band that brings the spooky vibes: My Chemical Romance. Did you know My Chemical Romance recorded the highly successful ‘The Black Parade’ album in a haunted mansion called The Paramour Estate? And, apparently, they ALL  had some really creepy and messed up experiences while they were there. The experiences were so messed up that it led to members of the band leaving the house well before schedule, forcing them to find a new studio to record and finish the album. Well, here's that story.

109: Bob Becker (ex-Fearless Records / Thriller Records)

lundi 27 février 2023Duration 01:01:58

Send us a text

Bob Becker joins The All Punked Up Podcast this week to discuss the very early days of starting Fearless Records and how even though he quit his real job to focus solely on the label on a shoestring budget, he’s so very grateful for and credits the early bands he signed as they put the label on the map.

Bob also reflects on the days after running Fearless Records. Even though running Fearless Records was tough and a grind every day, and with Bob having the drive and desire that he has, he just couldn’t stay away from the label side of the music industry, and Thriller Records was born.

And as with all record labels, there are times when they make the in-hindsight mistake and wind up passing on signing a particular band that goes on to be very successful. And Bob is no exception to that as he missed out on probably the BIGGEST band he could have missed out on. Oops! Also, Bob teases the next big band joining the Thriller roster. He gives some hints. Can you figure it out? Tune in to find out the hints and guess the new signing.

108: MOD SUN

lundi 20 février 2023Duration 47:32

Send us a text

This week, Tyler sits down with one of his favorite artists in the scene right now, MOD SUN. The word “genuine” comes up a few times throughout this interview, and it’s no surprise as this episode will show you that MOD SUN may be the most genuine and real artist the scene has right now.  He really wears his emotions on his sleeve and it all comes out unapologetically in his lyrics.

If there's one thing you should come out of this episode with, it's this: MOD SUN has never been one to do things by the book nor has he ever had the desire to be like any other artist for that matter. He is only interested in doing things the way he's always known—his way.

In this interview, MOD SUN talks about taking time to reflect on the steep incline that has been his rise in popularity since 2021, and just being grateful to be in the same conversation of being one of the main acts to help fuel the resurgence of pop-punk.

They also talk about the unconventional rollout of his newly released album God Save The Teen and the risky decision to release the album with no pre-released singles. When it comes to songs on the album, “Single Mothers”, the cover of The Goo Goo Dolls' classic song “Iris”, and "Courtney Fucked Kurt" become the main focus as each has its very own special meaning.

All of that and everything in between was discussed throughout this interview.

Here's another bonus episode! These bonus episodes are where we take a question asked on Reddit or somewhere on the Internet and answer it as honestly as possible—no matter the consequences.

This is probably the most controversial episode we've dropped so far. And we're guaranteeing this episode is going to either piss off some scene fans or at the very least surprise them. This week's question is: Is there an album or band everyone hypes up that you just can't get into?  Oh boy...

107. Is AI bound to take over the music industry? + Songwriters with big hits make little checks?

lundi 13 février 2023Duration 25:14

Send us a text

This week, John and Tyler discuss a few things. One of those things is about the Red Hot Chilli Peppers not satisfying their fans… Also, there was news this week that seemed a little bizarre and Tyler is wondering if you feel the same. Basically, there's a band that canceled itself for reasons that don't seem cancel-worthy. Then, John and Tyler discuss whether or not the future of music involves AI taking over. And finally, they close this one out with what goes on behind the scenes for songwriters in the form of compensation… spoiler, it’s not good.

BONUS: Are bands becoming a dying breed?

jeudi 9 février 2023Duration 20:36

Here's a quick bonus episode! These bonus episodes are where we take a question asked on Reddit or somewhere on the Internet and answer it as honestly as possible—no matter the consequences.

After it was reported that only 3 bands cracked Billboard's Top 100 chart in 2022, we wonder if Adam Levine was right when he said in a past interview that bands were a dying breed. So this week's question is: Are bands becoming a dying breed?  Let's see how the boys answer this one.
