It's a bonus episode of TV is Awesome that's all about the book! We take a deep dive into The Leftovers, by Tom Perrotta, the inspiration for the TV series we all know and love. In the world of the novel, we're introduced to a very different Kevin Garvey who's an affable guy and also the Mayor of Mapleton! We learn more about the inner workings of the Guilty Remnant than we did on the show, Aimee is somehow a main character, Matt and Patti are NOT main characters, and Nora is preoccupied with how hot she is. All in all, a very different experience. Do we recommend The Leftovers? Tune in to find out!

This is it! We've finally made it to episode 10, the season one finale of The Leftovers, "The Prodigal Son Returns"! This is where it all goes down... although not quite in the way we remembered because apparently we don't remember so good! 

After last week's flashback to "happier" times, we pick up right back in the cabin with a traumatized Kevin and a very dead Patti. But it's Matt to the rescue! There's another very weird dream sequence with a National Geographic, short-haired Grandpa Kevin, and a flirtatious ghost Patti (so weird). This episode also has furiously snapping Meg, a very hoarse Laurie (too many cigarettes and not enough talking), and THAT SCENE WITH NORA that we've been anticipating. Plus, Jill finds herself in jeopardy as the whole town goes to hell. A fiery one at that. Meanwhile, we wonder, who is the prodigal son in this scenario?

We're watching and discussing the ninth and penultimate episode of The Leftovers, season 1 - "The Garveys at Their Best". It's the Garveys when everything was great before the Departure! Or were things really so great? Because their amazing modern house has CRACKS IN THE FOUNDATION (foreshadowing alert). Kevin's not too happy and Laurie is downright condescending. Patti knows something is going to happen. But tween Jill is adorable, Kevin Sr. is the Mapleton Man of the Year (and NOT hearing voices), the West Wing's Donna Moss is going to be designated driver. Uh oh.

This week, it's a big one, folks! Kevin vs. Patti in the eighth episode of The Leftovers - "Cairo". By the way, it's pronounced, "Kay-ro" (who knew?). Kevin, Jill, Nora, and (of course) Amy have an awkward "get to know you" dinner complete with hostility and a bag search. Meg throws a temper tantrum, breaks all the GR rules, and uses - arguably - the most f-words in any episode of television. Dog man possibly reveals himself to be Patti's accomplice, while Patti and Kevin have a very intense, tear-filled, emotional confrontation in loving close-up.

We're heading into the second half of season one with the sixth episode of The Leftovers - "Guest" - a long awaited spotlight on Nora! This week, we're talking about how Nora has a panel tomorrow(!), asking why everyone's answering "yes" to question #121 (until they're not), wondering why Nora doesn't ask for a manager?? (as Lisa says, she's feakin' Nora Durst!), cringing as Nora's third meet cute with Kevin becomes a meet not cute, thinking about why Holy Wayne looking so shabby when he gets a grand per hug, and wondering if this is really closure for Nora when we know what happens later in this season (and seasons two and three for that matter)?
