After university, Mark took up an internship position at Futures in the UK, which is a global sports business consultancy. Futures gave Mark the opportunity to move to Australia, which he did in 2015, from London to Sydney.

Mark then led the opening of the Futures Melbourne office, where he ended up leading a team of analysts and working as an in-house consultant at Cricket Australia.

Mark recently left Futures to start his own business, Analyst Economy, which we loved exploring in this episode.

After completing a Bachelor of Computer Science in her hometown of Islamabad, Habiba moved to Chicago to complete a PhD of Computer Science, focused on computational biology. Following the completion of her PhD, Habiba worked throughout Europe before finding her way to Sydney, Australia, to work at Data61.

Habiba’s favourite coding language is Python, an open source language used for machine learning and deep learning, which we loved getting stuck into in this week’s episode!

James co-convened the Victorian Planning and Environmental Association Young Professional Group Committee, from 2017 to 2019, which oversaw the organisation of social and professional development events for young professionals.

In this episode we chat to Aaron Giaouris, full-time #streamer on the Twitch (https://www.twitch.tv) platform.

For those that aren’t familiar with Twitch, this platform involves #ContentCreators streaming live video footage of themselves, in Aaron’s case, playing video games to his social media following. Streamers interact with their audiences live and are a big part of the growing e-sports industry.

Following high school, Aaron completed a Bachelors of Commerce, majoring in Finance (Financial Planning & Commercial Law) at Deakin University (https://www.deakin.edu.au/course/bachelor-commerce). Later in life, Aaron completed a Master of Business Admin in Sports Administration through Torrens University Australia (https://www.torrens.edu.au/courses/sports-management/master-business-administration).

Starting his career at Commonwealth Bank, then moving onto Westpac, Aaron works for several years in financial hardship and lending before moving into the #SportsIndustry, taking up roles in coaching and sports management.

Aaron eventually found his way into the #AFL in early 2020, just before COVID struck. Aaron now intends to raise awareness of men’s mental health issues and the challenges social media poses to our next generation, particularly in the growing #gaming community through his Twitch channel and other activities.

While in London, Tyson worked in a operational contracting role at Twickenham Stadium (https://www.twickenhamstadium.com) during the 2015 Rugby World Cup, before pivoting into a sales role, where he was responsible for finding travellers to fill roles for Au Pair, volunteering, teaching and teaching English abroad programs.

Tyson then returned to Melbourne where he joined Uber Eats (https://www.uber.com/us/en/careers) to help scale their expansion process in metro Melbourne. Upon the recommendation of a few friends and colleagues, Tyson began the process of working at Eventbrite, working cross-vertically with event creators before moving into the music sector specifically.

Deciding to get some work experience under his belt, Liam found himself working at CBRE in Melbourne, selling commercial real estate. After finishing high school at 16, Keren travelled the world during a gap year before starting her studies at Monash University in 2012. Keren’s work experience includes working as a paralegal in a mid-tier law firm in Melbourne, volunteering at a community legal centre and almost a decade’s worth of experience in retail.

In this episode we interview Lachlan Ferguson, Senior Negotiator at CBRE Asia Pacific (https://www.cbre.com.au), specialising in industrial real estate throughout the Southern market of Melbourne.

Lachlan did not go to university and is a big advocate for thoroughly assessing whether the industry you’re interested in demands a degree.

After playing VFL for a few years after school, Lachlan got his foot in the real estate door at Crabtrees Real Estate (https://www.crabtrees.com.au) where he got his first taste of working in commercial real estate in a junior role. Ailie was born and raised in Texas before moving to Australia to complete her high school and university education. Ailie completed a Bachelor of Arts of the University of Melbourne (https://study.unimelb.edu.au/find/courses/undergraduate/bachelor-of-arts).

With an original career goal of becoming an actress, Ailie knew she had to cast a wide net to gain an idea of the different opportunities available to her after university. Having landed in marketing and then sales, Ailie is a big advocate for saying yes to opportunities that arise and taking calculated risks to further your career.

After attaining early entry into the La Trobe Aspire Program (https://www.latrobe.edu.au/study/aspire) in Year 12, Chris started his university career in a Bachelor of Media and Communications at LaTrobe University (https://bit.ly/latrobemediacomms).

Chris participated in an internship at the Northern Knights Football Club (https://www.afl.com.au/nab-league/clubs/northern-knights), where he gained his first insight into working in media in the sports industry.

Chris eventually landed an unpaid internship at the Victorian Institute of Sport, deferring from uni and completing his 3-year degree in 4 years. Chris is loving working in all sectors of the Victorian sports industry, particularly in media.
