176. Why Testosterone Matters for Women: Energy, Libido, Confidence & How to Boost It Naturally07 May 202500:32:39

Testosterone isn’t just a “male” hormone. It’s a vital, often-overlooked hormone in women’s health that impacts everything from energy, libido, metabolism, and mood to mental clarity and muscle strength.

In this eye-opening episode of The Women’s Vibrancy Code, we dive deep into the truth about testosterone for women - why it’s crucial, how to know if yours is low, and natural ways to optimize it. We’ll cover everything from signs of low testosterone to science-backed strategies, bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT), the Dutch Plus test, creatine for women, and the misogynistic history of hormone research that’s left so many women dismissed, misunderstood, and underserved.

Yale-educated midwife and functional medicine expert Maraya Brown shares:

  • The real role of testosterone in women’s health
  • Symptoms of low testosterone (fatigue, low libido, weight gain, brain fog)
  • Natural testosterone boosters: sleep, strength training, creatine, zinc, maca, healthy fats
  • The difference between lab testing types (serum vs. Dutch Plus)
  • What to know before starting TRT (testosterone replacement therapy)
  • How to self-advocate with your provider — especially when they say “you’re just aging”

In this episode of the Women’s Vibrancy Code, Maraya talks about her recent deep dive into Esther Perel's work and life story. 59. Feeling Vulnerable With Other Women & Being Authentic In Your Journey Of Allowing More Vulnerability In Your Life22 Feb 202300:44:52

In this episode of The Women’s Vibrancy Code, Maraya discusses why it’s important for everyone (but women especially) to allow themselves the feeling of being vulnerable in their lives – but also how to achieve an authentic version of vulnerability unique to each individual.

On a trip recently, Maraya had a conversation with women on 2 separate occasions and they said they would rather swim with a SHARK than be vulnerable with other women. So what do we fear? If we expose ourselves, we will lose love, respect, and acceptance. For some reason, especially in groups of women, there are old stories, old trauma that shows up around losing love, respect and acceptance. Yet, true emotional connection requires honesty and trust.

Also in this episode:

  • Why we’re not born afraid of vulnerability, but we shift to it
  • The many different ways women hide their vulnerability
  • Why Brene Brown believes vulnerability is our most accurate barometer of courage
  • Why the quality of your life is direct proportion to your uncertainty
  • Women have lost the space to share their experiences and intimate conversations
  • The most important question you need to ask yourself: “who am I being?”
  • Vulnerability is not having expectations of what other people will give you in return for your exposure
  • The best 11 tips on how to be more authentically vulnerable for you

One of the things which change drastically during the perimenopause/ menopause chapter of a woman's life is sleep.  Many women have a harder time going to sleep or staying asleep. 55. Sleep (Part 1): How Insomnia Is Impacting Your Well Being25 Jan 202300:35:18

In this episode of The Women’s Vibrancy Code, Maraya discusses the true power of sleep and how insomnia can affect you way more than just being “tired.”

In fact, most women are having that 2am to 4am wake up when their mind is buzzing, but their body feels exhausted. Other women find it hard to go to sleep, or are waking multiple times per night.  If you're thinking that maybe you can't lose weight, not putting on the same amount of muscle mass that you used to, or perhaps your confidence, energy and sex drive is down - it’s probably because of a lack of sleep. Sleep is when your body is allowed to rest, digest and assimilate.

Also in this episode:

  • How testosterone, progesterone, and cortisol all play a major role in your sleep
  • Why sleeping six hours, or less, actually promotes dehydration
  • Why you need to not have any caloric intake 2 hours before sleep
  • Matthew Walker and the difference between REM sleep and Deep REM sleep
  • How a loss of just ONE hour of sleep can increase the risk of heart attack
  • Circadian Rhythms and Red Light Therapy
  • Why there is such a thing called Sleep Debt and how Adenosine affects your ability to fall asleep

Now, serving hundreds of women across the globe, Krista has witnessed the transformative power of embodying healthy boundaries both from the cognitive level AND the physical or soma level.   She strongly believes that a well boundaried life empowers women to stop people pleasing and come back home to themselves so they can create lives and relationships that are purposeful and passion-fueled.

About Steve Sims:

Do you know anyone that’s worked with Sir Elton John or Elon Musk, sent people down to see the wreck of the Titanic on the sea bed or closed museums in Florence for a private dinner party and then had Andrea Bocelli serenade them while they eat their pasta – you do now.

Quoted as “The Real Life Wizard of Oz" by Forbes and Entrepreneur Magazine, Steve Sims is a best selling Author with "BLUEFISHING - the art of making things happen”, sought-after coach, Top rated speaker in the US speaker after keynoting at a variety of networks, groups and associations as well as the Pentagon and Harvard – twice!

About Steve Sims’ New Book - Go For Stupid: The Art Of Achieving Ridiculous Goals

What would you achieve if you weren’t afraid of being laughed at?

In the age of “gotcha” culture, people are terrified to do anything that might be laughed at. Steve Sims is the exact opposite.

In Go For Stupid: The Art of Achieving Ridiculous Goals, Steve teaches you how to ignore what everyone else thinks and go for big, stupid, ridiculous goals. From organizing a private dinner in front of Michelangelo’s David, to securing a tour of SpaceX led by Elon Musk himself, his accomplishments always start with the same questions: How far can I take this? What would make this a stupid achievement? Steve examines famously stupid goals in history, the key habits of successful people, and lessons from his own career to help you let go of your fear and get out of your own way.

If you do something amazing, you will be ridiculed until you are revered. Stop overthinking and go for ridiculous, stupid goals. Once you “go for stupid,” you open the door to the life you always dreamed about. https://www.goforstupid.com/

44. How Powerful Women Can Receive From The Masculine09 Nov 202200:36:03

In this episode of The Women’s Vibrancy Code, Maraya discusses an actual conversation recently held between she, and her husband, Michael. After a heated argument, Michael slowed down and asked her what she actually means when she refers to his, “being in the masculine”. This is a very different style episode as it’s more meditative and explores the energy of receiving; specifically through the lens of the dance between how a woman can retain the power of her feminine energy (while utilizing her masculine energy to be a CEO or be a dominant force in her life), and still be able to receive the protective masculine energy from her partner.

Also in this episode:

  • A meditation exercise about masculine vs. feminine

  • What masculine means and how it works in tandem with the feminine

  • How the feminine can change the masculine over large amounts of time

  • Breaking down how mature feminine, and mature masculine, show up in various ways for all people

  • How Maraya sometimes defaults to immature masculine

  • Why you’re taking the easy route if you volunteer for everything and do all the tasks, but you're taking the potent route if you take off the armor and allow yourself to receive.

42. Exploring Breast Health And How We Can Help Prevent Cancer26 Oct 202200:29:01

In today's episode of The Women's Vibrancy Code, Maraya discusses how we can promote breast health and fight cancer through many different natural avenues. Of course, we can talk about breast cancer but we really have to consider it in the realm of estrogen.  As such, we can also loop in ovarian cancer, uterine cancer, and even colon cancer.  The big thing that we have to watch out for though, is estrogen dominance and how your body is detoxifying the excess estrogen. By regulating estrogen levels, we can take our first big steps toward preventative measures against cancer.

Also in this episode:

[5:00] Detoxifying our bodies by changing our diets, including more plant-based estrogens in our days, and stopping all use of endocrine disruptors

[8:03] Reducing stress stops inflammation, and helps cortisol go down - which allows our hormones to produce in a healthy way

[8:59] Keeping our gut microbiome healthy and active with prebiotics and probiotics

[12:15] Why our genetics “load the gun” and our lifestyle “pulls the trigger”

[18:40] Exercising and being physically based on our moon cycle to honor our rhythms

[22:20] Doing monthly breast exams in the shower, and what to watch out for depending on your own breast texture.

[25:50] How breast massage helps lymphatic fluid flow and detoxify the breast

[27:00] Vagus nerve stimulation

Key Takeaway:

We have to recognize that all of our systems are highly interconnected, and we need to keep our mind, body, and spirit, as healthy as possible.

38: Free To Be with Dr. Shefali28 Sep 202200:28:31

In today’s episode of The Women’s Vibrancy Code, Maraya is joined by a leader in the field of mindfulness psychology Dr. Shefali to talk about reclaiming feminine power and the freedom to simply be. The healing journey begins with our inner child and stays with us through adulthood, as past experiences and conforming to expectations have lasting effects into our relationships. It’s by embracing our own feminine power and destigmatizing our own beliefs and personal relationships with our own bodies that we can begin our transformations and stand in our own power, even when at conflict in relationships. Dr. Shefali talks about how her courses are designed to empower women to embody their feminine power and relinquish control, allowing their needs to be met and their pleasure prioritized, leading to stronger and healthier relationships.

IN THIS EPISODE:

[05:36] The flow of the Free To Be course and how to begin your transformations

[10:46] The power in and importance of overcoming existing societal expectations

[12:03] Destigmatizing knowing our own bodies

[13:02] Standing in your own feminine power in face of relationship conflicts

KEY TAKEAWAYS:

So often feminine pleasure and power take - at best - a back seat. But speaking with Dr. Shefali, we discuss how we can reclaim the power over ourselves and our own pleasure with intentional transformations, healing and destigmatization.

37: Adrenal support and adaptogens for fatigue, hormones and immune support21 Sep 202200:19:58

In today’s episode of The Women’s Vibrancy Code, Maraya dives into the source of so many health complaints, from fatigue to low libido and more: adrenals. Did you know that a LOT of your long-term vibrancy complaints might be linked to poor adrenal function? Brain fog, digestive issues, exhaustion, rashes - they can all be because of adrenal issues. One of the BEST ways to get your adrenal function back in balance is through adaptogens and what I like to refer to as “adaptogen elixirs.” These are strategic mixes of different adaptogens, mixed with a protein and fat source and taste amazing, to promote your long-term adrenal health. In this episode, we look at what different adaptogens are recommended, where to find them, what issues they address and so much more. Are you ready to correct your adrenal issues?

IN THIS EPISODE:

[00:09] Symptoms of poor adrenal health

[01:55] Different adaptogen elixirs to help varying adrenal problems

[13:00] Specific adaptogens, their sources and their effects

[18:27] How adaptogens function foundationally and the long-term positive effects on your health

KEY TAKEAWAYS:

Adrenal health is a key part of your body's functions. If your adrenals are out of balance, you’ll likely see unwanted symptoms, from fatigue to digestive problems, manifest in various ways. Getting your adrenals back into form is so important, and adaptogen elixirs are a fantastic, healthy and customizable way to fix those issues.

The Women's Vibrancy Code: Women's Health And Wellness w/ Maraya Brown

36: Feminine Power and Presence with Tressa Yonekawa Bundren14 Sep 202200:33:38

In today’s episode of The Women’s Vibrancy Code, Maraya is joined by esteemed human-centered consultant Tressa Yonekawa Bundren to explore feminine power, intuition, presence, self-trust and more. Women's success and equality has historically been blocked. "We won't give you the funding, but I'll take you out for a drink" she was told. As Tressa and Maraya discuss, a woman's empowerment comes from making deliberate choices to stand in the truth of our power. In order to stand in our own power, we need to look inward, question and learn to trust ourselves. That may sound easier said than done, but this episode eases listeners into the concepts and practices.Embodying feminine power and presence doesn't just affect our reality - it gives our next generation of females permission to do the same.  They do what we do, not what we say we will do.

IN THIS EPISODE:

[07:08] Factors of influence and consideration in self-identity and female power in today's society.

[13:57] How self-worth ties into living a legacy

[17:40] What true power really means and where it can be found

[22:28] Practices to build regular presence and power practice

KEY TAKEAWAYS:

With societal biases that can often make things turbulent for women to navigate, it’s more important than ever to trust our own selves and step into our power. Between introspection, examining interval v. external validation cues, leaning into our intuition and more, we can begin to take those necessary steps toward personal empowerment.

35: The 411 on Vaginal Odors and Health07 Sep 202200:23:40

In today’s episode of The Women’s Vibrancy Code, Maraya discusses a common female worry: vaginal health, odors and discharge. Talking about the smells and emissions down there has been often stigmatized to be an uncomfortable subject, but it’s simply a regular part of health and of healthy maintenance. Differences in discharge type and pH levels are usually nothing to worry about, and can stem from a variety of internal or environmental factors - and the same goes for vaginal odors. Except in rare extreme cases, most have a relatively harmless root cause and any lingering issues can be fixed with lifestyle tweaks or simple remedies, as Maraya explores in an accessible and informative talk.

IN THIS EPISODE:

[02:05] Normal vaginal pH ranges

[07:36] Factors that can affect discharge and discharge cycles

[08:24] Discharge issues, causes and different remedies to try

[11:35] Vaginal odors - reasons and courses of action

KEY TAKEAWAYS:

Vaginal health is so important but can be so stigmatized. At some point, most women will experience fluctuations in discharge look and type as well as vaginal odors. It’s nothing to feel ashamed of! While in extreme cases it can be a serious matter, some ups and downs in vaginal odors and discharge are normal and can stem from a variety of reasons - and most can be solved with a variety of simple remedies or lifestyle tweaks.

34: Intimacy and passion your whole life long with Susan Bratton31 Aug 202200:34:20

In today’s episode of The Women’s Vibrancy Code, Maraya is joined by renowned intimacy wellness expert Susan Bratton to discuss female libido on a deep level. In our society, talking openly about feminine sexual desire - and sexual hesitancies - is often looked on as taboo. However, sex from a patriarchal standpoint is often celebrated. That leaves many women lost and feeling disconnected, especially when they are experiencing low bouts of libido. It’s possible to experience passion and healthy intimacy at any age for women, and a lot of the work of uncovering intimacy disconnections comes from a variety of places: past trauma, physical pain, a lack of understanding of a woman’s own anatomy, lack of supplements, etc. By speaking frankly and openly about sex both anatomically and intellectually, this episode helps get to the heart of reclaiming libido at any age.

IN THIS EPISODE:

[04:45] The different aspects of libido

[09:37] How female and male sexual anatomy are similar - and how they’re different

[21:37] Understanding how different aspects of sexuality education work together

[24:07] Techniques, schools of thought and supplements for women to regain lost libido

KEY TAKEAWAYS:

The feminine experience with sex can be quite different from the patriarchal perspective, leaving many women to suffer through lost libido or uncomfortable sex in silence. But by destigmatizing the topic and by looking at sex and its associated issues as anatomical and psychological, we can get to the heart of how to master powerful, healthy and pleasurable libido as women at any age.
