How to Manage Overwhelm in your Wedding Business

lundi 10 juin 2024Duration 43:35

In this episode, I speak to wedding MC and DJ Alan Marshall about overwhelm and how we can avoid it.

In the world of weddings, where the expectation of perfection often looms large, legendary DJ Alan Marshall offers a breath of fresh air. With a career spanning over four decades, Alan has become a wellspring of wisdom in the wedding industry.

His career began with humble origins, spinnin’ records for his grandmother's friends, and evolved into a reputable profession as a DJ, master of ceremonies, and independent celebrant. His story is a testament to the idea that success is not a destination but a journey filled with trials, errors, and valuable lessons.

Drawing inspiration from Brené Brown's "The Gift of Imperfection," talked about the fallacy of perfection, which is not only impossible to achieve but also can be detrimental to our growth and business practices.

Alan wrapped up the conversation by sharing the invaluable role of mentors and coaches, advocating for the importance of surrounding oneself with people who can help navigate the industry and foster personal growth.

On this episode, we talked about:

  • Acknowledging insecurities and accepting imperfections to foster authentic and effective business practices.

  • The value of trying new things and learning from mistakes.

  • Practical strategies for managing overwhelm in the wedding industry.

  • Consistency as a transformative force, such as small, daily actions can lead to significant achievements over time.

  • The concept of "the space between," a critical moment of choice that can propel individuals forward or hold them back.

  • The importance of continual learning and taking action to move forward.

How to Crack the Social Media Code

lundi 8 avril 2024Duration 53:43

This episode features cake maker Abigail Amankwa and we have an open discussion about what is currently working right now in the world of social media.

I had the privilege of sitting down with Abigail Amankwa, a wedding cake designer whose journey is as sweet and intricate as the cakes she crafts, in this episode of Wedding Business Podcast!

I was hooked as Abigail shared how, at 19, she chose baking over college, sharing her childhood obsession with cooking shows like "Ace of Cakes" and "Ready Steady Cook with Ainsley Harriott."

What stood out to me was Abigail's wisdom beyond her years. Her journey wasn't just about starting a business; it was about staying true to herself and her values. Even when a golden opportunity knocked on her door – a chance to work at the bakery that crafted the royal wedding cake – she passed it up to adhere to her personal commitments.

She's not just a talented cake designer; she's a digital marketing whiz who's tailored her approach to suit her niche market in the wedding industry. She also talked about the darker side of visibility, sharing experiences of criticism and the complex dance of maintaining authenticity on social media.

On this episode, we talked about:

  • The balance between corporate job security and the freedom of entrepreneurship.

  • Public perception and criticism faced by business owners, especially with a growing personal brand on social media.

  • Business-minded approach to social media for growth and connections.

  • The importance of targeting platforms that resonate with ideal clients

  • Social media’s  role  in the customer decision-making process.

  • The benefits of having a cohesive brand presence across all platforms.

Does a Strong Mindset = a Strong Business?

Episode 55

lundi 1 avril 2024Duration 42:29

This episode features wedding photographer Nicola Dawson and is a discussion around the link between a strong mindset and the knock on effect on your business.

It’s such a pleasure chatting with Nicola Dawson, a valued member of my community and a thriving wedding photographer, in this episode of Wedding Business Podcast!

It all started back in 2017 when she made the decision to leave her job as a police officer and pursue her passion for photography. Reflecting on her first wedding shoot, she felt a blend of excitement and nerves. But as soon as she started capturing those special moments, she knew that she had found her calling.

Aside from her journey and collaboration with me over the years, we also talked about toxic traits in Facebook groups within the wedding industry, setting clear goals, staying focused, and the benefits of working smarter, not harder.

With her mantra, "There is no greater force of creativity, determination, and commitment than a person undistracted by a plan B, " her mindset has truly propelled her forward and kept her focused on her goals.

On this episode, we talked about:

  • The significance of mindset in establishing a thriving wedding business

  • The power of self-belief and investing in oneself

  • Overcoming self-doubt, comparisonitis, and imposter syndrome and taking action to achieve goals

  • Finding the path of least resistance in business decisions

  • The value of continuous education and personal growth in business success

I am so happy to be welcoming the fantastic Janie Wolverson onto today’s episode of The Wedding Business Podcast!

As some of you may know, Janie is the founder and creator at The Lucky Sixpence, a business supplying ‘Unique Accessories For The Fearless’. She adores using original artefacts, that once served a purpose, and carried a story to provide a sense of depth and beauty to every piece that leaves her workshop.

Our conversations today do stray a little ‘left field’ you could say, as we touch on the ideas of meditation, mindfulness and how to navigate life with the help of the universe. I suggest listening to this with an open mind, as we also dive into the topic of mindset in business and how to manoeuvre ‘burn out’, with a nod to spirituality.

Being a member of The Wedding Business Club herself, Janie also speaks of the things she saw and experienced during my ‘Flow Method Workshop’, and how this affected her processes as a business owner.

You can find Janie’s work on her website https://www.theluckysixpence.co.uk and connect with her on Instagram at @thelucky6pence .

TW: in this episode, we talk about weight and body confidence

In today’s episode, I speak with Wedding Business Club member Sally Jackson about all things bridal confidence and positivity.

Coming from a senior role in healthcare and nursing, Sally has always had an urge to help and coach people through illness. Alongside strong interests in the mind & body, this led to her pursuing this coaching idea further into a new career path… with brides!

Being a bride can be stressful, and of course, you want to look amazing on your big day, but there comes a point where the stress surrounding appearance can spiral into anxiety and dread: a place we, of course, do not want our clients to be.

We discuss why these feelings can arise, and how we can deal with them, whether they stem from childhood or are passed on from an unwelcome comment from an in-law.

My Wedding Godmother works with brides who are suffering with their body image and teaches acceptance, empowerment, trust & admiration within themselves.

The discussion goes beyond how she works her magic, but to how we can also make a difference as suppliers. Sally provides tips and tricks on working with our low-confidence brides and things we should and shouldn’t encourage as trusted suppliers.

Welcome to Season 5

Season 5 · Episode 49

lundi 29 août 2022Duration 15:46

A big hello, and a warm welcome to the new season of The Wedding Business Podcast! I am beyond excited to be back and I am so looking forward to chatting about all things business and the wedding industry once again.

We’re kicking off this 5th season by talking about the many hangover weddings that are still in play, climbing Kilimanjaro and even taking enquiries for 2026-2027 (crazy... right?). Alongside this, we also touch on the current state of the wedding industry in its busiest months and the normality that we hope is to come from the year 2023.

But first, I would like to take a moment to really reflect on the summer so far. It's August, so a big pat on the back is due for reaching this milestone! But what I want to ask you,  is what have you learnt this year? And what are you taking into the next epic season? Acknowledge these highs, and perhaps lows and use them to grow and create next year's goals.

In this episode, I also touch on my FREE Masterclass that's NOW available, for those looking to pin down their most desired enquiries and also how to nail the sometimes dreaded task of marketing.
