Community Banking and Money Mindsets: A conversation with Venus Myles, Community Development Banking Market Manager

Season 8 · Episode 1

mercredi 4 mars 2026Duration 51:27

Send us Fan Mail

In this kickoff episode of The WEBB Remedy Podcast "Money Mindset Conversation Series", hosts Rinnie Orr and Stephanie Terry talk with Venus Myles, Senior Vice President and Carolinas Market Manager for PNC Community Development Banking, to explore how our beliefs about money shape the way we do business.

From pricing and hiring to investing and risk-taking, mindset plays a powerful role in all financial decision entrepreneurs make. Venus brings both practical banking expertise and deep community insight to help listeners move from fear to clarity — and from a scarcity to abundance mindset.

Together, they unpack what it means to build a healthy relationship with your banker, how to prepare for funding, and why mindset is just as important as money when it comes to business growth.

In This Episode:

  • What “community development banking” really means — and how it supports entrepreneurs
  • How scarcity thinking shows up in business decisions (and how to reframe it)
  • Practical steps to prepare for funding and protect your business
  • How PNC Bank supports entrepreneurs beyond capital — through education, partnerships, and community programs

About the Guest:

As a PNC Community Development Banking Market Manager, Venus is committed to driving economic empowerment in communities throughout the Carolinas. Venus works closely with small businesses to help deliver the financial solutions and resources they need to start, grow and scale their businesses. She is passionate about driving economic growth, equity, and resilience in underserved communities.

Background and Experience

She brings a deep understanding of the unique challenges these communities face.

Venus joined PNC in March 2016 and served as a Regional Manager for Small Business Banking prior to her Community Development Banking role. In this capacity, she led a team of nearly 100 bankers to drive increases in Annual Revenue, Deposit Assets, Equity and Small Business Lending, and consistent annual household growth.

Venus serves on the board of Durham Tech Foundation, Durham Tech Properties, the Affordable Housing Strategic Council of the Duke Community Affairs Office, the NC Bankers Association Opportunity and Empowerment Council, and the Dean's Executive Advisory Board for Johnson C. Smith University. She is a graduate of two Leadership programs, a previous Junior League member, and a current member of the sorority Sigma Gamma Rho. Building Trust from the Inside Out: How Self-Trust Drives Leadership and Collaboration

Season 6 · Episode 3

dimanche 30 mars 2025Duration 30:38

Send us Fan Mail

Welcome to Season 6 "Cultivating a Trust Mindset" series of The WEBB Remedy Podcast.

Meet "The WEBB Remedy" hosts:

  • Stephanie Terry, Executive Director and Co-Founder of WEBB Squared
  • Rinnie Orr, Associate Director and Co-Founder of WEBB Squared

At WEBB Squared, we’ve made “trust” the focal point of our theme this year: "With Trust, We Bridge the Gap; Together, We Move Forward." It’s a simple statement, but trust is not always as straightforward as it sounds. When it comes to building businesses, trust plays a pivotal role in overcoming systemic barriers — the kind that have been shaped by history, policy, and culture.

This season we share several conversations on trust. Trust is a mindset - and contrary to what people believe - trust is not some soft, elusive quality that you either have or you don’t.  Trust - though it is easily destroyed, it can be built -it can be restored, and when that happens, not only do your relationships grow, so do opportunities and efficiency in terms of business. Trust is a tangible, actionable asset that you can create.

Today's conversation examines:

  • What is Trust?
  • The Changing Landscape of Leadership
  • The First Wave of Trust: Self-Trust
  • The Importance of Integrity
  • Humility and Courage in Trust Building

  • research on trust, chemistry, and science through the study by Paul Zak in the Harvard Business Review The Neuroscience of Trust.
  • key behaviors that create trust in our workplaces and businesses and how these behaviors influence performance, create bonds, and strengthen relationships.
