Kicking off with a not-so-fun fact for Bec - did you know parents of 3 kids are reported to have the highest levels of stress? Sam and Bec catch up with their weekly yay and nays - Bec yaying their two-night getaway kid-free (sleeping til 9am, anyone?!), and naying being woken up before 6, being reminded of Steve Irwin's passing by an overly curious 4-year-old. Sam's yaying time on their holiday to develop a new hobby (thank you Fox In The Box Gold Coast escape rooms!) and naying how fast it went. Then we jump into the answers from this week's question about what is the worst injury you've gotten from your kid. We've got some doozy injuries that will make you think 'ouch', while helping you feel at home if you've ever been headbutted, whacked or injured by your child. The confessional is open this week with another hilarious funeral mixup, a 3-year-old Jesus (no, it's not blasphemous), and a grocery store ninja. Parent news this week, and we share about one mother who had the unfortunate experience of going into labour while dressed as the Grinch for Halloween! We also share a story from India about a doctor who is making headway in combating the baby gender bias, celebrating baby girls, and pushing for change. This episode is packed with parent hacks, confessions and news! Kicking off with a random Sam thought about how our kids are going to look at us weirdly at the word 'rewind' - we quickly catch up with our parent yays and nays from this week. Bec is yaying cute mixed up words like bumblegum and double-yaying with the successful use of reverse psychology on the 4 year old. Sam is yaying the kids finally eating their dinner (after a year of complaining on this podcast that they waste food), and naying the unexpected emotions of watching your child walk off to school for the first time (he won't admit it, but he cried in the car!). The confessional is in full swing this week, but with a few stories that we think are more like parent hacks! Like counting to 500 for hide and seek, or telling the kids they can play on iPads until you wake up (cue the sleep in!). These are followed by some embarrassing parent stories and kids saying the darndest things. This week has 2 parent news stories, starting with the debate over child-free resorts and hotels, fuelled by France's recent political debates about their culture of child-free stays. This week, we have a long list of wild newborn-life stories and one of the funniest parent news stories to date. From sleep deprivation to wild postpartum rage - there are a lot of stories here to relate to and more to laugh with. Strap in for another episode of the Unhelpful Parenting Podcast. This week, we change things up, starting with Bluey news, as we welcome our first-ever podcast guests: the gnomes. But add to that the absolute outrage that the ABC didn't even attempt to get merchandising rights to Bluey and more or less started the show and gave away the profits to an overseas company (bless you BBC). The Bluey news outrage continues, with the ABC choosing to temporarily remove the Hammerbarn episode of Bluey because, as a publicly owned broadcaster, they can't support a commercial campaign. Once we get the Bluey Heeler shock news out of the way, we jump into a quick catch-up with yays and nays. Bec is yaying Amazon Prime subscriptions for cheap and convenient parenting supplies and nappies - but naying the hour-plus round trip that is the school run (even though school is 15 minutes away). Sam is yaying getting our hands on the Bluey gnomes, but naying the whole 10 minutes it took for one to break. This week we have some more school fails and tales being sent in off the back of the last one a few weeks ago - and a few 'friend' stories that we aren't buying. With interesting show and tell and the stories kids tell their teachers, at least your kid isn't proclaiming to everyone that you 'pooped out a baby'. We have two confessions in the confessional this week, with kids mistaking people for ugly mannequins, and a Priscilla Queen of the Desert mix up. This week we have kids fessing up to their own confessionals, plus parent news on baby names, museums and active labor news. But first, we catch up and discover this episode is a new one - recording with the 3 year old in the episode. Sam will do his best to cut out interruptions, but there's nothing more unhelpful parenting than this! We start with our catch ups, talking yays and nays from our weekend away. Bec is laughing at Sam getting mistaken for one of the 'ladies' at their fancy dinner, and naying his new winking habit. Sam's yaying the massage on the weekend away, while being sad how quickly it came undone! His nay is the school hats and their never-ending disappearance! That reminds Bec of her extra nay - catching the 3yo colouring in the school hat while she was on the phone with her brother. Then we head to the confessional, but this confessional comes packed with stories from kids fessing up to what they did to their parents! New parenting fears unlocked! And then the Japanese government's decision to start a dating app to address declining birth rates. We head to the news archives for a story from years ago of parents who messed up big time - crossing a barrier to put a kid in a coffin for a photo, and knocking it over and breaking it. Get ready for all the answers to the question: What's the strangest thing you've witnessed your kid do? We have gross-weird, funny-weird, and creepy-weird stories from parents! First, we jump into the episode with a Frozen easter egg from Bec (but Sam doesn't think it counts). First, Sam & Bec catch up with their yays and nays. Bec's yaying (finally) implementing a job's list for the kids, and them being in the honeymoon phase and enjoying it (for now!). She's naying the hilarious and slightly embarrassing moment the 3yo mistook someone else for her and lifted another lady's dress in public. We brought back the confessional and we don't know who had more fails and funny moments this week - Bec or the parents sending in their stories! Starting with a mom confession, we launch in with our weekly yay & nays - Bec yaying getting to go to the shops by herself for the first time in what feels like years, followed by a nay from the same trip with a major embarrassing toilet moment (and the kids weren't even there!). Sam's following up Easter being grateful for time with family and friends, while naying whatever was in the chocolate this year cos it hit our kids different this Easter! We then share an ever growing list of reasons why pregnant moms have cried. Bec gets more than 1 story a day sent in, so we are sharing again some of the hilarious moments moms have on the wild ride that is pregnancy. Hilarious reasons pregnant mums have cried, the weirdest cravings, a few dad jokes and Sam has to be on his best behaviour or he's drinking hot sauce and sucking lemons! This new parenting podcast episode is full of fun and laughs for parents of all ages and stages. Sam & Bec kick off the podcast the way they do most weeks with their parenting yays or nays. Bec's in with 2 nays because one is an embarassing story and has to count. Sam makes comment of the parenting energy load and how much it sucks at this time of year when everyone is at peak motivation, setting goals and full of morale. Sam adds in some theme-relevant dad jokes for this episode and then Bec spills the surprise she's been preparing for this episode. Because this episode is all about pregnancy cravings and what pregnant moms have cried about - Sam has no empathy or ability to relate. To keep him on his best behaviour - any judgement or mean comments (including his usual sarcastic sense of humor) will result in him having to take a spoonful of extra hot sauce, or sucking on a lemon. It makes for an extra hilarious list, with more than 17 pregnancy cravings and 21 reasons mums have cried while pregnant. He even self-selects the punishment for some that are so outrageous he knows he has to comment (not that he can do that well with the hot sauce kicking him in the throat!). Bec then remembers how mean he'd been the week before (yes - calling her an elephant!!) and that he promised to make it up to her - so the call is out to send in your punishment/make up ideas. Bec’s yay: school holidays are coming (and we are still at the point where this is exciting…) Bec’s nay: teaching a 5yo to sleep who thinks it’s too ‘boring’ Sam’s yay: we found the mystery smell in the house (we’ve mentioned in a past episode) Sam’s nay: it was really gross and he had to clean it!
Sam’s dad joke came in threes this week and we had a good laugh. They may be bad dad jokes… but isn’t that what makes them good?
Bec shares another ‘parents in the news’ (or ‘random a*s facts by Bec’ as Sam likes to call it), where she catches us up on funny and odd news from around the world that us parents would find funny. This week we had teachers worried about a shoe stealing, foot fetish motivated thief at a Japanese kindergarten…

We asked what the funniest thing your kid has cried over and the answers did not disappoint! From not being allowed to eat from the bin to looking for booger that’s fallen out of their nose – these kids are funny and your parenting stories are hilarious.
The kids weren’t the only ones either – the pregnant mom stories and reasons you’ve cried while pregnant had us in stitches too!
But to start the episode we kick off with our weekly yays and nays. Bec’s yay: Sam’s turned into a Christmas elf! He loves Christmas now! Bec’s nay: She tried doing groceries with the 3 kids and has major regrets. Sam’s yay: The kids are making him love Christmas – the magic is real! Sam’s nay: There’s not enough room in our house for Christmas stuff now.
Sam’s dad joke is met with a few crickets but that’s what makes a good dad joke right? And just before it gets him in any trouble, we head into parents in the news – or as Sam likes to put it ‘Random ass facts with Bec’.
This week in the off beat, random news we’ve got: A follow up from swapping babies, with another news story out of Norway where babies were swapped, and the health authorities didn’t say anything when they realised 10+years later, and left it for 60 years before the families discovered it themselves! A kid in the UK shutting down the school because he brought in a ‘historic incendiary device’ that was a live explosive in for show and tell! A DNA test that showed mum and dad of 3 kids were actually cousins and never knew!
Then we’ve got the answers to what your kids have cried over. There’s heaps of funny kid stories and a few funny parenting moments!
With toddler meltdowns over not being able to say goodbye before flushing the toilet, to getting a new microwave – most of these reasons for tears had us in tears too!
We finish off with the reasons pregnant moms have cried too – from how beautiful the fireworks are to making sandwiches – the hormones are rough but the stories we get for the podcast are hilarious.

Starting with our usual yay and nay of the week: Bec’s nay: Doing a whole week solo while Sam was away for work (when do single parents shower?!) Bec’s yay: the tuckshop lunch app – again! The disorganised parents lifeline! Sam’s yay: my kids STILL love me (the card even said so) Sam’s nay: daylight savings makes working between states a bit of a mess.
Sam slips a dad joke or three into this episode and signs himself up to dress up as batman in the office (we wish that was a joke).
Then Bec introduces a new short segment (while the confessional has a siesta) called ‘Parents in the news’. This week sharing a new Bluey story where a police strike force (called strike force bandit) recovered over 40k of the 63k Bluey ‘dollar bucks’ coins that have been released by the Royal Australian Mint. Yes, this is real. And yes, they are selling on ebay for way more than they should!
We are then sharing the mess stories! From a few unfortunate poo-paintings, to real life paint paintings, all the toys, wall drawings and food attracting ant nests – there’s a few doozies that will make you feel like you’re not the only parent who’s had a bad day (or week, or month!).
We wrap up with a ‘would you rather’ mess edition – comparing mess scenarios and which would be worse (though we think we’ll take none of the above thank you!).

Other mums often ask what to buy before having kids – Bec says buy a big washing machine so all the bedding can go in at once! Her Bec’s nay: her latest nickname from the 3yo who is learning he is a ‘big boy’ so she is a ‘big mummy’ to him. Sam’s yay: having school back, not cos he hates the holidays but because he loves the routine. Sam’s nay: is our latest wave of all-over-the-place weather, bringing a new wave of bugs and viruses. We do a special shoutout to the single parents. We recognise a lot of our banter and experience is around parenting as a married couple, and wanted to take a moment to appreciate that single parents have an added complexity to an already complex part of life – so to all the single parents – we salute you! INTO THE CONFESSIONAL! This week we have 3 stories off the back of the one we got sent last episode. From the parent poorly explaining what a stripper was, and then having his daughter tell people that’s what she wanted to be (cos who wouldn’t want to dance for money?), we have… the boy who wanted to be a hooker (cos squirrels), the boy with the hooker truck (cos that makes so much more sense than a tow truck), and the kid who thought he was dressed as a ‘child predator’ for Halloween! Finishing off with another parent story sent in, confessing to trying to be cool and using the latest slang the wrong way (who knew ‘skibbidy’ was an insult?!). We laugh about all the latest slang and how we already have no clue! Bec is naying the insanity it is to juggle 3 kids' schedules plus her own, with a new appreciation for her own mum. Sam adds his yay that it's beach weather where we are, and for the first time in a long time we are getting to soak it up without morning sickness, being heavily pregnant or a teeny tiny baby keeping us indoors. Sam then throws in his dad joke for the week that leaves us rolling our eyes into the confessional. We hit the confessional with 3 hilarious and almost unbelievable parenting stories: 1. The dad who explained things badly so their kid announced they wanted to be a stripper at school. 2. The kid who took dad's 'special' magazines to school for show and tell and, 3. Sam is of course yaying the xylophone and how he still thinks it was a great present, and naying the way wives and partners will say no to food and then want to share yours later. This week's stories are branded 'the brutal things kids say', hearing stories about kids destroying their parents egos - starting with Bec experiencing our 5yo this week asking why she was getting so fat. Then we are in with the helpful hacks sent in - but being the unhelpful parenting podcast we had to keep it fun and a little less helpful so Sam is tasked with inserting unhelpful parenting facts after each hack.
