  • Hampshire's 2022 Player of the Year James Fuller 
  • Ex-Hampshire and now Dorset bowler Emily Roberts
We talk all things fast bowling including role models, intimidating batters, setting traps, bowling plans and the joy of running in FAST!

We also look at coaching fast bowlers - James shares the pathways approach to identifying and developing fast bowlers. We discuss the fundamental elements of a good, powerful bowling action and how to try and limit injuries.

Essential listening for all club coaches & parents of young aspiring fast bowlers!

Welcome to The Umpire Strikes Back!

Today the spotlight shines on our upcoming Coach Development programme. You can start or continue your coaching journey in Hampshire this winter. Full course details can be found here.

To give more detail we speak to Katie & Ben, two coaches who have taken different routes into coaching but are now working for HCB as Community Coaches. They, alongside our Coach Development Manager John Cook, discuss their cricketing journey, apprehensions before taking their course and the benefits of being a qualified coach.

We also speak to one of Coach Development Tutors Dave Gelling. Dave has been training new coaches in Hampshire and Europe for a number of years and shares his thoughts on how the courses have developed to focus on players, questioning and communication.

Firstly, we speak to Hugh Bernard and Michael Powell about our Lord's Taverners Super 1s programme. Super 1s gives young people with a disability aged 12-25 the chance to play regular, competitive cricket. Hugh and Michael talk accessibility, raising awareness, increasing confidence, employability and role models.

This week we focus on cricket in urban settings and look at the importance of role models on encouraging Black and African Caribbean children to take up the game.

Arthur Godsal (England U19's and South Wilts CC) joins us to talk about his journey through the junior ranks, his thoughts on representation within the game and his work with the ACE programme. He also talks about his recent exploits in Spain with the England XI winning the European Cricket Challenge ft Arthur C & Bowled

We then talk to Sara & Zaki, participants from our Lord's Taverners Wicketz programme in Southampton. They tell us the impact the programme has had on their cricketing development, the power of community engagement and giving something back to the programme. Wicketz Summer Festival

Firstly, Simon Trott of Overton CC who has won the LV-Insurance Pride of Cricket Media Hero Award!

Simon has revolutionised the online activity at Overton CC and great for those efforts to get some national recognition.

And we speak to Sam Moss and Mark Lavelle from Calmore Sports CC. They talk us through a historic day at Lords where Calmore lifted the 2021 Voneus Village Cup!

Plus, we speak to Greig Stewart, Head of Customer Experience at the Ageas Bowl. Greig tells us about plans for the summer, his hopes for crowds being allowed in and the importance of engaging the next generation of cricket fans and their families.

Episode 30 - In memory of Rick Kellaway - Disability Cricket in Hampshire

This week we pay tribute to Rick Kellaway who sadly passed away in January. 

Rick played a massive part in the Hampshire Disability Programme, providing opportunities for people with disabilities across the county. Rick delivered the schools programme, coordinating activity in over 20 schools and helping to facilitate competitions. Rick also supported the disability county squads, including the softball and D40 Academy teams who played matches against Sunday adult sides across the County. 

In his memory we look at the thriving Disability Cricket programmes in Hampshire. 

Jordyn Dore, of Gosport Borough CC & England Learning Difficulties team talks through his journey from a school session to playing for England in Australia. 

D40 Head Coach Nick Wheeler tells us his plans for the team 2021 and the challenges of the past 12 months.

And finally, Super 9s Head Coach Tony Adams and player Michael Hill talk sportsmanship, leadership, adapting to individual needs and winning!
