Five years after her first episode on Tandem Nomads, Erin Long is back to share her incredible success story and how her company has developed into a business where she is not even needed anymore.

For so many of us who have a passionate belief in changing the status quo, knowing where to start and how to get started is the biggest challenge!

Sometimes, the most important part of turning your dream of making a difference into reality is just to start somewhere! While having a great process for building your business or driving change is important, you also have to start and trust that the journey will take you where you need to be.

My guest this week is passionate about changing the real estate and relocation industry. Lindy Chapman has an amazing story to share. Despite being told it couldn’t be done, she is proof that when you make a start and trust your dream, amazing things can happen!

"Podcasting is an amazing way to connect and build an authentic relationship with your audience."

Following 20+ years as a relocation client supporting her husband's career, Lindy Chapman entered the real estate & relocation industry where she serves as a champion for those who move by challenging outdated processes that too often fail the consumer. Through her podcast ReloTalk, she also seeks to bring relocation clients into the conversation in order to serve as part of the solution rather than a problem to be solved in the industry.

Quickly after launching her podcast, the digital brokerage startup, Doss, based in Houston named her CEO of Social Agents, where she is building a team of real estate resource "Matchmakers" to support home buyers and sellers whether moving across town or to a new country. She also serves on the Advisory Board for Pivtapp.com, a social app for relocated employees and their families.

TN197: Most popular episode in 2020: How to confidently deal with competition21 Dec 202000:41:41

This episode on dealing with your fear of competition was the most downloaded episode this year!

So often we spend too much of our time and energy comparing ourselves to our competition or worrying that they will copy our ideas or product or steal your clients. To overcome our worries about competition, we need to realize that its normal and important. In fact, if you have no competition, you may not have a market for your business idea!

And we need to let go of our fear of competition, because the more we worry about it, the less time we spend focusing on our own clients. We need to worry about making an impact on them, not basing our decisions on what someone else’s business.

"Believe in the law of abundance and don’t let your ego getin your way."

In this episode, I share how you can embrace your competition and develop a mindset that allows you to grow your confidence, remain competitive and become a true market leader.

What You Will Learn
  • Why most people are afraid of competition
  • How to embrace competition and the mindset of growth
  • How to become a market leader and be ahead of your competition

TN194: The dirty word that is holding you back – ***ition30 Nov 202000:31:06

Our own limiting beliefs can be the biggest barriers to our own growth and success. So often we think there are things we just cannot be or words we cannot use about ourselves.

Ambition is one of those words we often avoid. It has so many negative connotations but this week, we are going to change that, and help you embrace your ambitious side that you can unleash your potential to grow.

"You are worth it. Allow yourself to dream big!"

Ambition has been a dirty word for too long. I have shied away from using it about myself because of how I think others will see me. Being ambitious is so often associated with being pushy, sacrificing family and placing work above everything.

This week I am unpacking all the stigma around being ambitious and looking at how a new understanding of the concept could help entrepreneurs, particularly women, pursue their dreams and fulfill their potential.

What You Will Learn
  • What the limiting beliefs are that have led to the negative connotation around ambition
  • How self-care and mindfulness can be at the center of our ambitions
  • Why women need to embrace this word more than ever

TN193: Behind the scenes of our ‘tandem’ journey and what we’ve learned along the way – With Michael Friedl23 Nov 202000:49:52

The reason I chose the name Tandem Nomads is because I believe that the key to succeeding in this nomadic journey as a dual career couple is to continuously remember that this is a team deal, both partners need to be fully involved to make it work. We should never consider one career to be better than the other, regardless of the income involved.

I try to be open and transparent about my personal journey and how I do business. But there is one critical component that I have rarely talked about and that is the major role that my husband Michael plays in helping me in my career.

In fact, without his continuous support and involvement in Tandem Nomads’ growth, I do not think I would have been able to come so far.

"You should be interested in what your spouse or partner is doing - there should be input on both sides."

In this episode, Michael will share his side of the story, and tell you about the challenges and learning we have experienced along the way.

Michael Friedl works at Advantage Austria and is the Austrian Trade Commissioner for the United States.

Michael was born in Vienna, has an MBA from the Vienna University of Economics and a Masters degree in International Public Policy from Johns Hopkins, SAIS in Washington DC. After various positions in the private sector (hospitality and finance), he started working for ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA, Austria's official trade and innovation promotion organization with more than 110 offices worldwide.

ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA provides a broad range of intelligence and business development services for Austrian companies and their international business partners. Starting as Austrian Deputy Trade Commissioner in Johannesburg and Abu Dhabi, he later headed the offices in Washington DC and Tehran before being in charge of HR and personnel development in Vienna. In September 2014 he became the new Austrian Trade Commissioner for the US based in New York. In his spare time Michael loves to cook, run, and read books on architecture.

TN190: How small business owners can build purpose and social impact into the business model – With Ebere Akadiri02 Nov 202000:44:10

In order to succeed in the long run, businesses should be clear about their purpose, their vision, their mission and their values.

There are many important social causes in this world where businesses can make a huge impact by including them as part of their business model.

Causes such as inclusion and diversity have been a major focus for many companies for decades , but I believe that we have reached a time where even small businesses can and should include social justice in their business model and the way they manage their day-to-day activities.

You might say that if it is still a challenge for big corporate companies to implement real changes for inclusion and diversity, how can small business afford to do so?

"You need to know what your big vision and purpose are if you want your business to last through challenges."

To discuss this topic, I invited Ebere Akadiri who has extensive experience with this topic as a serial and social entrepreneur.

Ebere Akadiri is an established leader and an advocate for women's leadership, diversity and inclusion. She is the founder and CEO of Rise and Lead Women – a platform dedicated to helping organizations drive the change towards building inclusive cultures that attract, retain and advance women into leadership. She mentors women entrepreneurs on how to build sustainable businesses with social impact objectives.

She serves as a Board member for the BIEL (Beauty in Every Life) Foundation and is also the co-founder of Ataro Food and Spices, a West African food brand that is rapidly growing and experiencing global demand. She possesses a master’s degree in Management & Leadership from Webster University in Leiden, The Netherlands.

TN184: Growing your business the meaningful way, the Go-Giver way! – With Bob Burg21 Sep 202000:34:08

Building a strong network can be a valuable asset to your business. However, networking is often looked at a way to “get” the right contacts that will “bring” you business. Today, I invite you to shift your perception of networking to “giving” and to building meaningful relationships that can grow your business for the long term.

This is the subject of “The Go-Giver” - one of the best books I have read. It has been a huge influence on my own business journey.

I am very honored to have Bob Burg, the author of this book as my guest on this week’s episode. Bob shares his insights on how “giving” the right way will make you a successful entrepreneur.

"Your true worth is determined by how much more you give in value than you take in payment"

Bob is the author of a number of books on sales, marketing and influence, with total book sales of well over a million copies. He is also a much sought-after speaker at sales and leadership conferences. His book, The Go-Giver, coauthored with John David Mann, itself has sold over 950,000 copies and it has been translated into 28 languages.

Through his work and passion he shows how companies both large and small that conduct their businesses “The Go-Giver Way” are not only of much greater value to their customers; they are also significantly more functional, and profitable, as well.

What You Will Learn
  • What entrepreneurship is really about
  • How to network in a meaningful way
  • How to give without expectation while still serving your business
