We are facing the greatest global pandemic of all time. Burnout, anxiety, stress is at an all time high. People are the greatest asset of an organisation. The better people look after themselves, the better they perform in all areas of life - both at work and home. Every single tiny choice we make during the day is shaping our lives, directly impacting how we feel and experience life. After getting the biggest wake up call of losing everything in my life in 2016 I had no choice but to face my habits and make a change. The changes at first seemed so insignificant that I didn't believe they would make a difference. BUT they did. The Positive Habits Podcast is for people who want to live a better life, with higher energy levels, less stress, better relationships and ultimately to supercharge their performance in all areas of life. I'm on a mission to help people improve their wellbeing with one small habit change.

mardi 6 janvier 2026Duration 10:30

In this solo episode, Kat discusses 3 transformative habits that significantly boosted her confidence in 2025. She emphasises the importance of not checking your phone first thing in the morning, committing to 10 minutes of daily movement, and maintaining a consistent bedtime.

Each habit contributes to improved mental health, emotional regulation, and overall well-being, ultimately leading to a more confident and energised life.

  • Not checking your phone first thing boosts self-control.
  • 10 minutes of daily movement improves emotional regulation.
  • Consistent sleep improves decision-making and emotional control.
  • Habits can be easy to implement with small commitments.
  • Your body and brain are essential for achieving your dreams.

"I feel strong mentally and physically. I've never felt more confident and energised."

Kat started her career as a teacher, before moving into Tech where she worked in different executive roles within teaching and consulting working across the globe, both in the public and private sector. Despite appearing 'successful' on the outside, she paid a heavy ‘life’ price. In 2016, her whole world collapsed. The reason? The compound effect of years of unhealthy and toxic habits that destroyed her health, relationship, and career. She suffered a severe breakdown and lost everything. In the middle of this she got headhunted for her first CEO role. She rebuilt herself by changing just one small habit and built a series of positive habits which has transformed her professional and personal performance, resulting in becoming the healthiest and happiest version of herself. She is a positive habits international keynote speaker and teacher, giving talks and delivering high impact programmes to organisations across the globe.

The Greatest Investment You Can Make

Episode 3

lundi 1 juillet 2024Duration 10:12

In this episode, we delve into the paradox of modern life where discussions around wellbeing, mental health, and self-care are more prevalent than ever, yet stress and burnout are at an all-time high. We explore the disconnect between talking about self-care and actually implementing it, emphasising the importance of prioritising activities and relationships that rejuvenate us. Kat highlights how often we sacrifice our own needs, spending disproportionate amounts of time on tasks that drain us and focusing on others' needs over our own. The conversation also touches on the significance of investing in oneself, whether it’s through gaining new knowledge, developing skills, or exploring fresh ideas. Our host shares personal insights on how dedicating resources to self-improvement has fostered personal growth in various aspects of life. By consistently allocating time and money towards personal development, whether for the mind, body, or professional life, one can achieve remarkable growth and wellbeing. KEY TAKEAWAYS I feel like we talk about looking after ourselves, wellbeing, mental health more than ever before yet people are more stressed, overwhelmed and exhausted. That’s because there’s a big gap between talking about it and taking action. We spend too little time on the things that give us energy and we enjoy, quality time with the people we love. We spend an imbalanced amount of time on things that don’t matter, things that steal our time and energy, and prioritising other people’s needs over our own. I’ve learned over the years that investing in myself in terms gaining new skills, ideas, and knowledge that helps me to grow in different areas is SO important. You can grow so much as an individual when you invest in yourself. A lot of what I spend my money on each month is investing in myself, whether that’s my brain, body or business. BEST MOMENTS “I don’t think we view looking after ourselves as an investment in our mental and physical health, but that’s the narrative that needs to change.”“You can be the best version of yourself when you invest in it, in your body and your brain, for a few minutes, regularly.”“The first step in wanting to make a change is starting to notice something that you weren’t aware of.” ABOUT THE HOST Kat started her career as a teacher, before moving into Tech where she worked in different executive roles within teaching and consulting working across the globe, both in the public and private sector. Losing Half Your Body Weight: Darren's Incredible Transformation

Episode 36

mardi 28 janvier 2025Duration 41:20

Kat chats to Darren Lloyd, who talks about hitting rock bottom at 24 stone with type 2 diabetes and losing half his body weight through ketogenic living and intermittent fasting. Kat and Darren also discuss career resilience, relationship challenges, and how making one significant change can create a positive effect across all aspects of life. KEY TAKEAWAYS Career satisfaction comes from finding alignment between personal values and professional impact. Darren found his sweet spot in EdTech, combining sales success with meaningful contribution to education. Traditional weight loss methods often fail because they don't address the return to old lifestyle habits. Darren maintained a steady weight loss of about a stone per month through a complete lifestyle redesign. Understanding the relationship between carbohydrate intake, insulin, and weight gain was transformative for Darren, his research revealed how modern eating patterns contribute to obesity and diabetes. Drastic health transformations require thorough research and a personalised approach. Darren's success came from extensive study of ketogenic living and intermittent fasting. Mental health and personality can be significantly impacted by physical health and Darren regained his outgoing nature and positive outlook after his weight loss. Seemingly healthy choices like fruit can be metabolically problematic still. Replacing office snacks of Toblerone with grapes and bananas still caused insulin spikes and liver fat storage. Progressive fasting can be sustainable - starting with 16:8 fasting, moving to 18:6, then incorporating weekly 48-hour fasts, and monthly 3-5 day fasts showed how the body adapts gradually. Darren's relationship breakdown led him to meet his current wife and build a happier life, sometimes better things come from bad situations.   BEST MOMENTS "Food doesn't have to be the driver of life, you can still enjoy it... but I'll just say instead of giving me the rice or the pasta, give me an extra portion of the veg or some more meat." "One slice of bread is the equivalent of eating three teaspoons of sugar. Not many people would think of it that way." "When you make a decision, obviously it can spark all sorts of different emotions, but once you've made a decision and you follow through with the decision, no matter how difficult that is... then you start, like the doors start to open up." "If you're not getting enough sleep, that is really dangerous and harmful to health” ABOUT THE GUEST Darren is a 57 year old sales professional based in Somerset and working across the UK in the Higher Education administration software sector. Darren’s transformation took place between July 2023 and December 2024 following a pre-diabetes diagnosis in 2016 and a full diabetes diagnosis combined with high blood pressure in 2019. He put out a LinkedIn post about his journey in December 2024 which has gone viral having been seen by over 225,000 people. In 6 weeks. This was the first step in a campaign he is running to use his transformation both to inspire others struggling with weight and/or diabetes, and also to work with scientists, doctors and journalists to get policy makers in government/NHS to understand that their advice needs to patients needs to change in order to tackle the nation’s obesity and diabetes epidemics. Darren has put together a one page document containing links to the key videos, doctors and scientists that educated him back from morbid obesity and diabetes to full health. If these resources would be helpful to you, email Darren at darrenlloyd@hotmail.co.uk quoting “Positive Habits Podcast” and he will send you a copy of this free document - all of the resources are also free to access.  Darren’s transformation took place between July 2023 and December 2024 following a pre-diabetes diagnosis in 2016 and a full diabetes diagnosis combined with high blood pressure in 2019. My Body Sent Me an Email, But I Never Opened It

lundi 8 septembre 2025Duration 35:54

Today, Kat speaks with the Head of People at Bosch Digital,  Marina Takács for an honest conversation about perfectionism and the pressure that comes from always being the “the strong one”. Marina shares how she burnt out despite being there to stop others from doing exactly that and how she recovered and came back even stronger. Whether you’re leading a team, managing a demanding role, or simply juggling life’s endless demands, this episode offers practical strategies to help you develop positive habits. Including setting boundaries, protecting your mornings, being self-disciplined, and protecting your energy. Habits that enable you to thrive in both your personal and work life — without burning out. KEY TAKEAWAYS ·  Even strong leaders burn out. Marina believed she could juggle everything — until her body “sent her emails” telling her otherwise, which she ignored. ·  Being busy can feel meaningful, but often it´s just stress in disguise. ·  Recovery starts with small, uncomfortable changes, for example learning to say no without guilt or scheduling and protecting your down time. ·  Strength includes pausing: Real leadership models recovery and boundaries, not just absorbing stress. ·  Regularly check in with yourself. Pausing briefly to honestly reflect on your energy, mood, and reactions will help you spot early warning signs of problems and head them off. ·  Discipline and consistency are what keeps habits alive, especially when life gets busy. If you need to exercise every day, prioritise it and do it even on your busiest day.   BEST MOMENTS   “My body sent me an email — but I never opened it.”   “I think was confusing adrenaline with purpose.”   “I  just stopped glorifying being always on.”   “Real strength is knowing when to pause.”   “Consistency beats intensity every time — especially on Mondays.”   “If I burn out, I’m not just hurting myself  obviously I'm hurting my family, my loved ones and I’m setting the wrong tone for my team.”   ABOUT THE GUEST Marina is Head of People, Organiaation and Culture. She is people-first and future-focused and passionate about inclusive leadership, change management, and building thriving organisations. With a career dedicated to people strategy and transformation, she helps businesses and teams grow stronger, together. https://www.linkedin.com/in/marina-takács   ABOUT THE HOST Kat started her career as a teacher, before moving into Tech where she worked in different executive roles within teaching and consulting working across the globe, both in the public and private sector. Beyond the Field: Burnout, Meal Prep & Mental Health on the Farm

Episode 64

lundi 11 août 2025Duration 51:07

Kat speaks with Ben from Thrive in Farming during the middle of harvest season for a conversation about mental health in agriculture and the power of small habits. Ben opens up about his two corporate burnouts and how neglecting basic self care nearly broke him. From his daily dog walks to calling out "time excuse bullshit," Ben shares why intentional living saved his sanity. With agriculture having the highest male suicide rates, this isn't just about meal prep; it's about survival. KEY TAKEAWAYS ·      Having lost farming friends to suicide, Ben understands why the industry has the highest male suicide rates from weather pressures, government changes and even online abuse. ·      Ben’s two burnouts revealed the cost of neglecting habits. Both of his worst professional experiences happened when he abandoned self care routines, teaching him exactly what never to repeat! ·      People have time but the wrong priorities, having extra sleep instead of 20 minutes of meal prep is a choice. ·      After 15 years of poor nutrition, Ben’s homemade heated lunches have increased his overall energy levels and eliminated the dreaded 2 PM crash too. ·      Age has brought perspective that lets Ben focus on helping people who want positive change rather than engaging with critics.   BEST MOMENTS "Everything is available to us if we make these small changes. I think one thing I've learned about human beings is we are really good at deflection." You know you have time, it's just you haven't got your priorities right." "Just be a sponge. Just take info in it. There's, it's all around you all the time. Filter out the bullshit." ABOUT THE GUEST  I'm Ben, the founder of Thrive In Farming, a business helping farm owners attract and retain great people by focusing on core values – culture, wellbeing, and flexibility. With a background in farming and a passion for health and personal growth, I am on a mission to help rural businesses, and people, thrive, not just survive. Outside of work I spend as much time as possible with my little family and dogs, exploring the countryside, supporting Ipswich Town and trying to keep fit! Your Habits Are Shaping Your Whole Entire Life

Episode 63

lundi 4 août 2025Duration 11:48

In this episode, Kat speaks about what she has learnt and noticed from delivering her talks to teams and from her own experiences of the power of habits. She shares how many of us get lost in life and don’t prioritise ourselves, and how easy it is to not recognise the bad habits we have been creating. Kat talks about the power and influence habits have on shaping our entire life and shares an exercise she delivers in her talks to get you thinking about what things you can change in your life to start living better. KEY TAKEAWAYS • Kat’s toxic and negative habits that led to complete burnout in 2016 were the result of not prioritising herself. • One of the biggest things Kat has come to realise when delivering talks is how easy it is to sleepwalk into bad habits and how transformative recognising the power of habits, both positive and negative, can be. • Even if people think life is generally good, just taking 10 minutes for yourself can make such a difference in your life. • Think about some of the things you are doing in your daily life that you know are affecting you, whether that’s your mood, energy, relationships or anything else. • What are the things that make you feel good and give you energy, these can be things that you do now or things you have done in the past. • What habits could you commit to doing, and what impact could these habits make on your life? BEST MOMENTS “I love having just 10 minutes with my microphone to talk about things that I am passionate about” “It’s really easy for us to get lost in life” “What are the things that give you energy, what are the things that make you feel amazing?” ABOUT THE HOST Kat started her career as a teacher, before moving into Tech where she worked in different executive roles within teaching and consulting working across the globe, both in the public and private sector. When Success Nearly Kills You – The Truth Behind the ‘Have It All’ Lie with Karen Kadin

Episode 61

lundi 21 juillet 2025Duration 31:45

Kat talks with Karen, who went from accidentally building a global creative agency to nearly killing herself saving it. Karen shares how this led to adrenal fatigue so severe that she developed pre-diabetes, and what she had to change in her life to survive. Karen shares why the 'have it all' mentality is toxic, her glass balls vs rubber balls theory for managing life and how she's rewiring her perfectionist brain. KEY TAKEAWAYS • Working in the events industry, which ranks alongside firefighters in the top 5 most stressful jobs, Karen admits Type A personalities like herself can’t help themselves and will fight through everything until they crash. • Life feels like living with a thousand tabs open in her brain. Unlike her business partner, who compartmentalises perfectly, Karen is constantly juggling work emails, school WhatsApp groups, and the mental load of motherhood, making it impossible to truly switch off. • As someone in a position of power, Karen refuses to perpetuate the lie that women can have everything simultaneously without paying a price. • Karen has abandoned all or nothing exercise training for 10-minute walks and weekly tennis lessons, admitting triathlons now 'sound horrible' compared to 15 years ago when they felt fun. • Dr. Mark Hyman's research changed her perspective completely, learning that sedentary lifestyles are more dangerous than smoking transformed how she views getting up every hour for squats or water as essential survival, not productivity breaks. BEST MOMENTS "I fought like hell, not just for my life, but for everybody who works for us, for all of our clients and every supplier that counts on us for business." "We can have it all, guess what? It's gonna come at a price. It's really unrealistic to think you can have it all, or at least all together all the time." "A sedentary lifestyle is more dangerous than smoking to your health. We grew up seeing cigarette packs with shrivelled lungs, but now it's the lack of movement that will kill you." ABOUT THE GUEST Karen is the Co-Founding Partner of Brands at Work, the award-winning creative communications and events agency that unleashes the power of experience to build trust and loyalty between brands and the people who matter most. Her passion lies in helping companies become better storytellers — building vibrant brand communities from the inside out. In this short solo episode, Kat shares the powerful story of Steve – a guy who felt tired and overwhelmed, until he committed to just one small habit: a 10-minute walk each morning. What followed surprised even him – increased energy, sharper focus, and a ripple effect that inspired his entire family. Is modern society making us soft?

Episode 59

lundi 7 juillet 2025Duration 54:25

Former Royal Marine and police officer Simon doesn’t hold back as he shares his unapologetic take on parenting, discipline, fitness—and why your morning routine might be holding you back. The discussion covers his recent observations on the physical state of men, his opinions on vaping and his approach to raising his 11-year-old son Charlie. Simon and Kat discuss discipline versus motivation, screen time, parenting approaches and what Simon sees as society's increasing softness. KEY TAKEAWAYS • Morning routines can become counterproductive and Simon argues that obsessive morning routines harm more than help when people focus more on the routine than actual productive work during the day. • Exercise can easily be integrated into daily life, Simon demonstrates fitting training into everyday activities like doing dips while cooking or pull ups during screen breaks, making fitness accessible without gym memberships. • After 47 years of training, Simon feels motivated only 50% of the time, but still trains daily by making it non-negotiable and asking "when will I train" not "will I train." Discipline matters more than motivation. • Children shouldn't be pacified with screens, Simon never gives his son screens at restaurants or when crying, instead engaging him in conversation and teaching him to interact with adults and handle boredom. • Simon judges people's ability to protect and help others based on basic physical tasks, viewing fitness as functional rather than aesthetic. • Self-esteem comes from achieving goals, confidence is built through "an undeniable stack of evidence that you are who you say you are" rather than positive affirmations. • Modern society promotes instant gratification. From Amazon Prime to dating apps, Simon sees society losing the ability to wait, creating what he calls "the Amazon Prime Society" where everything must be immediate! • Simon views vaping as "an adult dummy" that shows lack of self-control, comparing the constant use to pacification rather than the occasional nature of traditional smoking. BEST MOMENTS "If Instagram disappeared tonight, I'd be in my garden tomorrow morning training. Nothing changes for me." "A man should do what he says he's gonna do. That to me is the mark of a man." "Self-esteem isn't chanting mantras in the mirror in the morning. It's building an undeniable stack of evidence that you are who you say you are." ABOUT THE GUEST Simon Martin. Father first, always. You Released a Thriller Album. What’s Next?

Episode 58

lundi 30 juin 2025Duration 51:12

That’s how Phil Carr describes the surreal moment after selling his multimillion-pound business. Kat is joined by serial entrepreneur Phil for a conversation about the real cost of building successful businesses. Phil talks about founding MyPT Hub in his grandmother's spare bedroom and how he sold it for millions. This isn't a typical success story; it's a brutally honest account of how stress manifested into ulcerative colitis, the moment everything changed when he sold his company and the life changing habits he then built his life around. Kat and Phil also discuss why work/life balance is a myth, the simple power of being present and the importance of vulnerability in leadership. KEY TAKEAWAYS • Work/life balance is a myth for entrepreneurs. Having built multiple businesses since 2013, Phil explains that success requires periods where work is heavily skewed, but staying conscious of when you're doing too much is also crucial. • Chronic stress manifested as ulcerative colitis for Phil. During the most demanding period of building MyPT Hub, his autoimmune disease developed, then disappeared within 48 hours of selling the business, proving the mind and body connection. • Small changes create compounding effects, rather than overhauling everything at once, Phil’s approach focuses on changing one habit at a time, which he learned creates sustainable changed through compounding. • Being present requires conscious practice, Phil admits it can feel difficult and strange to begin with, but it makes a huge difference. • Vulnerability strengthens leadership, leading his team of friends and family through openness about struggles and failures has created deeper connections and better business performance without ego or status getting in the way. • Most people don't care about your failures and we overestimate others' judgment of our setbacks. • Phil found that removing his phone from the bedroom and reading before sleeping for seven hours improved his anxiety levels and helped his digestive health, changing everything about his life. BEST MOMENTS "I was walking on a tight rope, but I never realised it was only six inches off the ground” "I think that people naturally gravitate towards wanting to help people." "Are you lying to yourself? Because you can't deceive yourself. You will know in your heart of hearts if you are doing something you genuinely believe in." "It feels alien at first... but being present with your children is so fundamentally important."
