"We have the freedom to choose what we eat."

Mel Weinstein, joins me today to dissect the truth behind ultra-processed foods. His expertise, captured in his written work and podcast, aims to demystify the additives that shape America's fast-food empire and our grocery store shelves.

Have you ever wondered what goes into your favorite packaged snacks that make them so irresistible? We examine why these concoctions captivate our taste buds and how they're engineered to do so, often at the cost of our health. The revelation of the commercial food industry's motive to prioritize shelf stability and uniformity over nutrition underscores the urgency of making informed choices. "I truly feel the best when I’m eating plants"

Imagine watching your dad survive a heart attack at the age of 47. And then when you turn 20, your doctor tells you that because of genetics, you are headed down that same path. That information might scare you, render you helpless. Well this week's guest, Reanna Kicinski, took matters into her own hands. She got a second opinion, and that second physician recommended a plant-based diet. After a short 6 months, Reanna's good cholesterol had almost doubled.  And now 2 years later, Reanna is inspiring others to try a plant-based lifestyle, including her dad. Plant-Based FAQs: 7 tips if you can't be 100% plant-based28 Feb 202200:23:37

It is perfectly normal to not be able to make the transition to plant-based overnight. You may be at the beginning of your journey.  You may have limitations based on where you live.  You may have cultural influences that you are navigating. Whatever the limitation, doesn't mean you have to let go of the goal of going plant-based all together. Plant Centered Nutrition believes in progress not perfection. This episode is all about how to implement small changes that anyone can do.

  1. Focus on adding more plants
  2. Be flexible
  3. Find alternatives
  4. Find a community or support system
  5. Listen to your body
  6. Enjoy each bite
  7. Celebrate your successes no matter how small

Plant-Based FAQs: What does "listen to your body" actually mean?14 Feb 202200:28:36

This phrase is thrown around so much in the wellness industry. I really wanted to devote an episode to discuss what this phrase ACTUALLY means and why it is such an important part of your intuitive eating practice. Katie and I have a great conversation outlining how to start taking steps to get in touch with your body, to slow down, to tune out the noise. It starts with asking questions like "how am I feeling?" and "how hungry am I?" and "how full am I?" I hope this episode gives you the blueprint to begin your intuitive eating practice.

How adopting a plant-based lifestyle and a mindful eating practice allowed this 63 year old actor to shed over 50 pounds, reverse his diabetes, and cut his medications in half07 Feb 202200:43:55

"My doctor called me and said 'you have cured your diabetes'”

Stories like J.T.'s are exactly the reason I started this podcast. Just like so many of us, J.T. did not grow up eating for nutrition. A self-proclaimed "starving artist", he would scarf down whatever food was available as he ran to his next acting gig. As he got older, he was diagnosed with high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes. After adopting a plant-based diet, a mindful eating practice and incorporating gentle movement into his life, now at the age of 63, he has been able to shed over 50 pounds, reverse his diabetes, and cut his high blood pressure and cholesterol medications in half. His enthusiasm is infectious and I could have talked with him for hours!

J.T. is an actor, with credits in films, TV, audio and the stage. He is also a teacher of Tai Chi, Qigong, and Meditation.

Tragedy strikes, causing this young woman to reevaluate her life and realize food is her best medicine24 Jan 202200:32:46

"How we live and what we eat is more impactful in some ways than the genes we get passed down to us"

Caitlyn Howarth shares her story that unfortunately begins with multiple family members dying of cancer, including her brother at the young age of 38. Naturally, Caitlyn wanted answers. She took a deep dive into her own research into what could have caused this and how can she prevent it from happening to her. She soon discovered plant-based eating.

She was a typical American child and like so many of us grew up on a limited diet of mac & cheese and chicken nuggets.  She is a self-proclaimed lifelong picky eater, never having eaten a squash or bell pepper up until recently.  She now loves to experiment and has tried more new foods in the last two years than all 26 before that. Please enjoy her story.

Plant-Based FAQs: Limiting beliefs and how they are holding you back06 Dec 202100:19:58

They are EXTREMELY powerful. Today, Katie and I examine how to identify our limiting beliefs, how they hold us back and most importantly, how to get rid of them.

How a lifetime member of Weight Watchers gave up the points in exchange for a sustainable intuitive eating practice08 Nov 202100:29:33

"Oh no, does this mean I’m going to be on a diet forever?"

I did a recent deep dive into Noom for a recent podcast episode and it really touched a nerve. I got so many questions that I knew I had to scrutinize other popular diets on the market today. One of my amazing clients was a lifetime member with Weight Watchers and has such a common story. I know she will provide so much encouragement to you listeners.

Amanda is from the Seattle area and has been plant-based since middle school, over 25 years. She grew up in a dieting household without any understanding of how to eat in a balanced, healthy way. In her early twenties, she joined Weight Watchers. We explore the rules of this diet program and dissect how these rules effected her relationship with food and disrupted her ability to listen to her own body's wants, needs and cues.

Vegan Academy founder, Koen Vaessen, tells his story of how he healed years of self destructive behavior with veganism and intuitive eating11 Oct 202100:24:55

"I often chose cigarettes over having a meal"

After years of living a self destructive lifestyle, suppressing his emotions, and a negative relationship with food, Koen Vaessen burnt out. And he knew it was time for a change. He went vegetarian, started a course to become a personal trainer and got fit. However, he still wasn't happy. And that's when he knew he had to go within. He needed to change his relationship with himself and learn how to deal with stress. He went vegan and eventually started the Vegan Academy to help others thrive on a vegan lifestyle, but most of all create a healthy relationship with their body and with food.

"Noom" claims that it is not a diet program. Hear why I call B.S.!04 Oct 202100:17:24

"Weight and size are not indicators of health"

I posted a Reel on Instagram several weeks ago and there was mention of the "Noom" program.  It sparked a TON of questions from my followers so I thought I would make a podcast explaining the research I've done regarding the program and why I think they are the same old diet dressing up as something new.  I go as far as to sign up for the program for the purpose of looking behind the curtain.  I wanted to know what a prospective "Noom" consumer went through.

What I found was shocking and upsetting.  Logging your food.  Calorie Counting. Weighing yourself.   Labeling foods good and bad.  Sure sounds like a diet to me.  I hope I can shed some light for some of you.
