67: Too Busy to Chase Your Photography Dreams? Let’s Change That!

jeudi 5 septembre 2024Duration 42:31

Have you ever had one of those weeks where your to-do list just stares at you like, “Yeah… you’re never finishing me”?  Same.

Between work, life, family, endless responsibilities, and trying to remember what sleep feels like (hiii mom life!), it can feel hard to even think about making time for your photography dreams, let alone actually work towards them.

Here’s the thing though, no matter how busy life feels, you can make space for your photography and your dreams.

You just need a way to carve out time, even when it feels like there’s none left.

And trust me, I know the feeling—wanting to do everything but somehow doing nothing—you blink and suddenly it’s 10 p.m. and you’re staring at your phone like, ‘Wait, where did the day go?’

That’s why, in this week’s podcast episode, we’re talking about exactly that—how to turn those overwhelming, anxious feelings into action. Spoiler Alert: It’s not about having more time, it’s about using the time you’ve got.

Here’s a little sneak peek of what we’re talking about:

  • How to stop feeling like a deer in headlights when you look at your to-do list and start actually moving forward
  • The magic of setting one big, bold goal that gets you excited—and then breaking it down into manageable steps
  • How to find your “golden hours” and use them to make serious progress (even if it’s just 15 minutes at a time!)

This isn’t about adding more to your plate—it’s about finding freedom in the small, intentional steps that get you closer to your dreams. And the best part? It’s not about perfection. It’s about showing up for yourself, consistently, even when life feels too busy.

You don’t have to wait for the “perfect moment” to chase your photography dreams.

The perfect moment is right now.

Every small step you take adds up to something bigger.

So if you’re ready to turn that busy, overwhelming feeling into something productive and meaningful, this episode is for you.

66: How to Show up and Sell Yourself as a Photographer When the World Is on Fire

mercredi 28 août 2024Duration 31:36

Social media used to feel SO fun.

I mean, think back to the days when we’d just take a photo with our iphone, slap the Valencia filter on it and call it a day.

It was so simple back then, so pure...

But then came the algorithm...

And with it, the never ending demand for MORE!

More likes, more followers, more content… more, more, more!

It kinda becomes exhausting, doesn’t it?

As photographers, we pour our hearts into our work, only to feel like we're constantly chasing something that keeps moving further away.

And then you add in the constant stream of heartbreaking news every time you open the app—the world seemingly on fire—it can make sharing your art feel almost pointless.

It’s hard not to wonder if what we create even makes a difference when the world feels so heavy.

Maybe you’ve been feeling it too, and if so, it's important to remember that art has the power to bring light, hope, and connection—even when it feels like everything is falling apart.

Your creativity deserves to be seen, and it IS possible to reconnect with the joy that brought you to social media in the first place.

And I’m sharing all about it in today’s podcast episode, we’re talking…

  • finding that spark again
  • making social media work for you,
  • what’s been making me feel disconnected from IG and how I’m bringing that joy back
  • how to stay true to yourself and your craft, even when the world feels like it’s falling apart

If you’ve ever struggled with anxiety, depression, or self doubt when it comes to your life or your photography career, today’s podcast episode is for YOU.

Today I’m introducing you to one of the amazing alumni from our online course, The Photographer’s Path, Alanna Georgette.

It was so refreshing and inspiring to hear Alanna's experience, knowing that we’re not alone in the doubts we all feel sometimes. Alanna has been shooting professionally for over four and a half years and she has some beautiful insights to share with you today.

56: *Student Success* How She Became a Full-Time Wedding Photographer in Under a Year With Claudia Melian

mercredi 19 juillet 2023Duration 01:05:01

Today I brought someone very special onto the podcast, and I can’t WAIT for you to get to know her! Meet Photographer’s Path Alumni, Claudia Melian.

Claudia is an incredible wedding photographer, originally from the Canary Islands and currently living in Connecticut.

She is a true artist — her work is timeless, hypnotizing and never ceases to capture the attention of its viewers.

Shortly before joining The Photographer’s Path, Claudia fell in love with photography but wasn’t really sure where that path could take her. She didn’t know what she wanted to do, she just knew she loved taking photos.

Well, within 4 months of joining TPP Claudia booked her first wedding, and within 1 year of signing up for our course she was officially a full-time wedding photographer (taking on her first wedding season all on her own)!

She created a snowball effect that totally transformed her life, and we’re talking all about it in today’s episode.

Claudia is a perfect example of what can happen when you take the leap and go after your dreams even when you’re unsure of where it might take you.

In this episode, she talks about:

➡️ How DMing strangers to help build her portfolio led to booking her first couples shoot ...

➡️ Tips for staying calm and in the moment during stressful shoot environments ...

➡️ What inspires her to create images unique to her ...

➡️ Advice when shoots don’t go as planned (insert wedding horror stories) ...

➡️ Advice for aspiring photographers, and so much more...

If you’ve been thinking about taking it to the next level with your photography but the fear has been holding you back, I hope you'll give this episode a listen.

It’s time to see for yourself what’s possible when you go after your dreams.

55: I Hosted a Photography Retreat in Maui and It Changed My Life! (Recap + Top 5 Lessons Learned)

mercredi 12 juillet 2023Duration 01:01:01

We just got back from our very first photography retreat and I can honestly say, my life is changed for the better beause of it.

32 of our alumni from our online course, The Photographer’s Path met in Maui to fully submerge ourselves into photography. We dove deep into lighting, posing, cameras, lenses and ALL the techy goodness. We were pretty much open books 24/7, sharing and exchanging knowledge, we learned together, grew together, supported each other, and this time we spent together is something I’ll honestly never forget.

I watched every one of our students push outside their comfort zones and leave this retreat a different person.

And it all started with finding the courage to invest in an online photography course, become a part of a loving community, and believe in themselves and their capabilities.

Watching each of our students' grow has been the most incredible gift.

And on today’s podcast episode, I’m sharing it all with you! Listen in for:

  • A recap of our amazing week on Maui 🏝️
  • Why TPP alumni are so awesome 😏
  • The #1 thing all of our students have in common that has catapulted their growth 🚀
  • The 5 most important lessons I learned on this trip and how you can start applying them to your life today! 🧘

You're going to want to listen to this episode!

54: Photography Isnt Just a Hobby It’s a Financially Rewarding Career

mercredi 5 juillet 2023Duration 35:36

Lemme just paint the picture for ya.

You’re sitting at the Thanksgiving dinner table, catching up on the year behind you and small-talking with your extended fam…

…and then your uncle (the one you see once a year — maybe) looks at you and says,

“Soooo, how’s your little photography business going?!”

And, since it’s THANKSGIVING, you can’t make a scene (ugh), so you kindly say, “It’s going really well actually.”

To which he responds “You're still doing that huh?”

Can ya relate to that one? 🙃

Buttttt, here’s the thing: uncle, what's his name, can calm it down — because the idea of ~starving artist syndrome~ and the assumption that creative people can’t make money is the wrong one.

As photographers, we work in a multi-billion dollar industry — and to say there’s limitless potential is almost selling us short.

In today’s episode, we’re talking ALL about this. When you listen, you’ll learn things like:

  • My personal experiences with $$$ in photography

  • Stats on the POWER of photography in the world

  • TPP encouragement for you to take to your next Thanksgiving dinner (😉)

53: Listen to This if You Struggle to Make Time for Photography

mercredi 28 juin 2023Duration 32:11

“I have to wait until I get a nicer camera.”

“I can’t do it until the kids are older”

“I don’t need to try something I’m not sure I can follow through on.”

“I have way too many other priorities, this can wait.”

“I don’t have time.”

How many times have you said at least one of the above about your dreams?

If you’re like most photographers I know (and myself, trust me), it’s been… at least once. Probablyyyyyyyyy more. 🙃

But what if I told you that, actually…

…you can start without the camera

…you can figure it out

…you can follow through on the things you want

…you can make yourself a priority

…you can always make time for dreams

Because you CAN. It just genuinely requires a little recalibration and focus.

A reminder that you’re where you’re supposed to be — and you have to take advantage of every second you have, while you have it.

In today’s episode, we’re talking allllll about time and how to make the most of it when it comes to following your dreams— because maybe today you need to realize how much time you really do have.

I am OVERJOYED right now. Why?

Because TOMORROW we’ll be hosting 32 of our incredible alumni from The Photographer’s Path, in HAWAII (!!!!), for a 5 day private photography retreat.

The excitement I feel right now is unbelievable!! It’s a DREAM COME TRUE.

But here’s the thing, if you check us out on instagram, you’re going to see all of us in Maui this week shooting, creating magic and having the times of our lives ... but the reality is building a photography business can be hard. And the path to get to moments like this aren’t always easy.

In fact, there were MANY times during my journey that I’ve wanted to throw in the towel.

But because I never threw in that towel, I get to be here, sitting on a balcony, listening to the sound of the waves as I type this email. It's because I never gave up on this dream that I’ve been able to experience things I never thought possible.

And that’s why I do what I do, why I created Horizon Found, why I created this episode for you.

To make sure that YOU never give up on those dreams of yours, either. So that YOU get to experience moments you’d never imagined for yourself. I will do everything in my power to help get you to where you dream of being.

51: Your Photography Dreams Realized: Visualize, Plan, and Move Forward With Confidence

mercredi 14 juin 2023Duration 20:16

If I asked you what success really looked like to you, what would you say?

If I asked you what really mattered to you, what would you say?

If I asked you what your truest dreams were, what would you say?

And, more importantly…

…would you let yourself say it?

Would you?

Now, you might be answering, “hmmm I’m not really sure.”

And that’s okay.

But what if I told you that, regardless of how far away these things feel — this knowledge of success, these things that matter, these dreams that you have — were in you already…

…and you just had to find them?

Because, guess what? They are. And you do. And you can.

And in today's podcast episode, we’re going to find them together.

This is an episode unlike ANYTHING we’ve done before, so I hope you’ll listen and take some time for yourself today
