The question of whether to wake a sleeping baby is a BIG one with no shortage of strong opinions.  In fact, "never wake a sleeping baby" HAS to be one of the most popular pieces of parenting advice for new moms.

But is it good advice?  Should you NEVER wake a sleeping baby? 

The short answer to this question is- NO.  This saying isn't 100% accurate since there are numerous circumstances where you'd WANT to wake a sleeping baby.  In this episode, I delved into these scenarios in more detail so you're properly informed as to when you'll want to wake your sleeping baby and when you'll want to let him sleep.  Enjoy!

Ensuring your little one's sleep environment is conducive for good quality sleep is VERY important if your goal is to maximize your little one's sleep and teach them how to sleep like a champ.  I'm always getting questions about blackout blinds and whether they're a necessary addition to their little one's nursery.  Spoiler alert- my answer to this question is always "YES!"  Humans sleep best in dark, quiet rooms.  Babies and young children are no different!

In this podcast episode, I'll explain why our little ones sleep better in the dark, the various benefits of blackout blinds for healthy sleep, and why you can't "teach" your little one to be flexible and sleep in a brightly-lit room.  Enjoy!

SEASON 4 EPISODE 5 The truth about your baby's sleep cues and what they mean

It's a well-known fact about baby and toddler sleep that overtiredness is the enemy as a well-known sleep stealer.  However, it can be quite difficult sometimes to figure out what type of sleep schedule your little one needs to avoid overtiredness to begin with.  A well-known piece of advice tells parents to look out for their little one's "sleepy cues", which are supposed to let them know when they're getting tired.

The truth is that I DON'T agree with this advice. 

In this episode of the My Sleeping Baby podcast, I explain more specifically what "sleepy cues" refer to, why I don't recommend relying on them to help you figure out when your little one needs to sleep, and how I recommend you approach your little one's sleep schedule instead.

SEASON 4 EPISODE 4 Can you sleep train a newborn? Expert advice and insights

If you are a parent of a newborn baby, sleep is probably something you're NOT getting much of.  Afterall, newborns require frequent feeds, diaper changes, and nurturing as they transition to the outside world, all of which can get in the way of proper stretches of sleep for you.  And that's exhausting! 

This is where discussions around sleep training often come in as a way to help create better sleep habits.  But the reality is that sleep training is NOT age appropriate for newborn babies.  In this podcast episode, I discuss why newborns can't be sleep trained.  But most importantly, I go through my top 6 pieces of advice for maximizing sleep in the newborn stage without any sleep training.  Thankfully, getting sleep with a newborn IS possible!
