He discusses how active deliberate study replaced passive consumption. How documenting his struggles and progress on social media helped him build a personal brand during a difficult downswing, and how success milestones often failed to deliver lasting fulfillment. Throughout the conversation Mateos reflects candidly on burnout, identity, and motivation, ultimately highlighting the importance of process over outcomes, community over isolation, and aligning daily actions with personal values as the real foundation for long-term performance.

Episode 69

In This Week's Episode:

Before Scott Blumstein sat down for Day 1C of the WSOP Main Event, he had never entered a tournament over $3,500.

On Day 4 he finished 8th in chips.

After 7 grueling days, he entered the final table as the chip leader with 97,250,000 chips...

And in hand #246 of the final table, he 3-bet shoved Ah2d and was called by Dan Ott's Ad8s.

The board ran out Js6s5h7h, and just as it looked like Ott would double, the 2h landed on the river, giving Scott Blumstein the WSOP Main Event tilt and $8,150,000.

During the two day break between the end of Day 7 and the start of the final table, Scott brought in Elliot Roe to mentally prepare him for the biggest 3 days of his poker career, saying:

"Honestly, with the 48-hours I thought the mental game was more important than any technical stuff I could learn at that juncture."

In this Episode of The Mindset Advantage podcast, Scott Blumstein joins Elliot Roe and Adrienne "Talonchick" Rowsome to talk about winning the most prestigious tournament in poker.

In This Episode You'll Learn:

  • How a mental blow up on Day 7 nearly cost Scott the entire tournament.
  • Why he chose to prioritize working on his mental game over his technical game during the 48-hour break before the final table.
  • What motivated Scott to win (even more than the $8,150,00 first place prize).
  • How Scott went from a "Mental Game Fish", who preached that there was no skill in poker to WSOP Main Event Champion.
  • Exactly what it felt like when the 2h fell on river, giving Scott the win and the $8,150,000 first prize.
  • What's next for the 2017 WSOP Main Event Champ.

From there he created content for Stox Poker and went on to write his two books. Jared's clients include WSOP November Niners, WSOP bracelet winners, and EPT Champions. He is now recognized as one of the leading experts on the mental game in the poker industry.

064 Afterthoughts With Matt Berkey

vendredi 12 mai 2017Duration 19:36

This week is going to be a bit different.

Over the last few episodes, you've probably heard about the recently launched Poker Mind Coach Academy. It's a community of ambitious poker players all trying to reach their full potential in the game.

One of the benefits of being a member is a bonus segment from the podcast called "Afterthoughts." After we record an episode Elliot, Adrienne, and the guest all need to hang out while the recordings download. There's always a great conversation during that time, so we decided it was a waste not to record it.

Usually, these conversations are only available to Academy members, but this week we'll be sharing the Afterthoughts from last week's episode with Matt Berkey as a sneak peak into the Academy.
