Mistaking Proximity For Intimacy In Your Relationship...31 Aug 202400:26:33

Send us a text

As life progresses, it’s easy to fall into a routine with your partner—going through the motions of daily life, handling responsibilities, and sharing the same space. But sharing space doesn’t necessarily mean you’re sharing a connection.

By midlife we can begin mistaking proximity for intimacy, believing that just being physically present is enough to maintain a strong relationship. However, true intimacy requires much more than simply being near each other.

In this episode we dive into proximity versus intimacy, talk about our own experience and as ever give tips you can action to start making positive changes in your relationship.

Being the Best Man, Dad & Partner: Interview with Larry Hagner17 Aug 202400:43:36

Send us a text

Being a parent isn’t easy, and being a modern father carries its own set of challenges. Larry Hagner spent half of his childhood without a father figure in his life and the other half with toxic father figures that came and went.

He made one decision as a young boy, and it was that his kids would know who their father was.  Larry knew firsthand the devastating effects of growing up without a positive father figure in his life and used this to create the Dad Edge community.

Larry is now a successful podcaster, best selling author and runs programmes for men to step up and be the best that they can be as a partner, a parent and man.

Talking to Larry was truly inspiring and I’m sure this episode will resonate with many of you.

S3 Ep92: Happiness is a Habit16 Apr 202200:27:32

Send us a text

In this episode we talk about happiness...and how it is in fact, a habit.

Throughout life I'm sure, like us, you've experienced many times when you felt happy and then something, without warning took that feeling of happiness away. It could be the loss of a loved one, relationship, job, home or even our health.

We can feel disappointed, sad and lost and our subconscious mind then hangs onto this and equates happiness with endings. Essentially it believes avoiding happiness avoids pain.

So it stands to reason we need to consciously practice being happy again - and know it’s safe to do so.

In this episode we explore what’s really going on, why there should be no guilt attached to feeling this way, and give you some tips on how to reclaim the happiness and joy you deserve…

S3 Ep88: The Danger of Crash Diets12 Mar 202200:28:40

Send us a text

With the recent tragic news about Shane Warne, and the alleged crash diet that MAY have contributed to his heart attack, we really wanted to address the topic of extreme dieting.
Put simply, at midlife, you’re playing a risky game with your health if you continue to crash diet. Crash diets may work for the very short term, but the stress they put on your body is incredibly dangerous.
It’s time we all understood the long term implications and found a new way to lose the extra pounds, nourish our body - and stay that way for life.
In this episode we offer a wake up call and provide advice on how to live healthy and happy - without the crash diets.

S3 Ep87: Testosterone: The Low Down on Low Levels For Men 05 Mar 202200:29:37

Send us a text

On this week’s episode James flies solo as he talks to Ross Tomkins of Alphagenix about the role for testosterone replacement therapy for men facing the andropause.

As men age natural levels of testosterone drop steadily year by year, and by the time a man is in his late 30s, 40s or 50s, his testosterone levels could be 30 to 50% lower than they were in his 20s.

That can mean loss of muscle, loss of strength, energy, confidence, increased weight gain, brain fog, falling motivation, and loss of libido.

While lifestyle factors can play a part in helping keep natural hormone levels elevated, if testosterone is already low, then TRT may be an option to alleviate the symptoms and improve quality of life.

Find out more about the andropause, TRT and Ross’s own journey as we chat all things testosterone.

In this episode, Claire flies solo, as she talks to Erin Spurling - founder of The Child Free Lounge.

Erin’s mission is to change the conversation for and about women, who choose to embrace a childfree lifestyle, whether that’s by choice or circumstance.

Claire and Erin speak about some of the misconceptions of being child free and why they feel it’s important to speak out about their choices, to empower more women (and indeed men) to live child free unapologetically, confidently and without judgement.

S3 Ep76: Cultivating Self Confidence 12 Dec 202100:28:45

Send us a text

Self confidence.

A lack of it affects so many people and it can become a painfully difficult, life long struggle. It stops us living as our most authentic selves and even from reaching for our dreams.

This creates huge internal battles. We lose faith in ourselves and in turn, the frustration can lead to unhealthy behaviours.

Confidence isn’t something we are born with or that we wake up with one day. It’s cultivated over time. And it’s essential we learn how to - so we can live a happy, healthy life.

S3 Ep75: The Midlife Brain: Interview w/ Neuroscientist Ben Webb05 Dec 202100:54:38

Send us a text

Did you know your brain shrinks from around 30 years of age?

And that stress can lead to a toxic build up and shrink your mental capacity.

Did you also know that certain lifestyle factors can negatively alter the structure of your brain?

In this episode we’re joined by professor of neuroscience Ben Webb, who gives us not just a fascinating insight into the midlife brain, but lifestyle tips to increase brain health, build brain capacity and reverse potentially life altering diseases such as dementia.

It seems it’s never too late to change your brain - and just one of the amazing facts is that eating well and exercising is not only good for your body, but great for your brain too…

Every midlifer should listen to this, because truly - you’ll be blown away by what you learn.

Have you been making this midlife mistake?11 May 202400:17:35

Send us a text

One of the biggest mistakes we see is midlifers taking an isolated approach to overcoming a struggle or challenge they have. Maybe they don’t feel good in their body so they’ll do a diet, get a PT or hire a nutritionist. Maybe they’ll try a gadget, app or test kit. Or maybe they feel depressed, anxious and demotivated, so they seek help - maybe with a doctor who prescribes pills straight away, or they see a therapist.

All of these are fine - but they’re not tackling things in an integrated way. And that’s essential, because we’re holistic beings. And the purpose of our approach is to bring the mind, body and soul into alignment. To look at all aspects of the self, rather than just one part. Only when we do this can we truly thrive and reach our fullest potential.

In this episode we dive into more detail about this and give you the low down on our ENRICH method.

S3 Ep74: Releasing Regret28 Nov 202100:40:34

Send us a text

Frank Sinatra famously sang, “Regrets, I’ve had a few…”
We can all hold onto regrets.

Regrets about things we have done, things that have happened to us. Too often though, the past can continue to spill into the present, affecting our behaviour, our emotional state, our choices.
Sometimes we’re aware of this, but all too often it can be unconscious, meaning unless we do the work to recognise it and move through it, it can continue to block out progress and blunt our success.
In this episode we look at ways of recognising and releasing regret so that you can move forward unshackled by your past.

S3 Ep68: Another Level, Another Devil17 Oct 202100:25:38

Send us a text

It never goes away.
That little devil on your shoulder - appearing each time you level up in your life. As you reach for more expansion, more fulfilment, more alignment with who you really are.
It whispers not so sweet nothings in your ear.

It might tell you that you’re better off where you are (even though it’s painful)
It might tell you you’ll lose it all. Friends, relationships, your security. That you’ll be ridiculed.
It can be debilitating listening to that voice. Constantly in a  state of limbo. A horrible 'in between' world of where you are and what you could truly allow yourself to be.
The truth is - sometimes you have to go anyway and wait for the mind to catch up.

In this episode we give you examples from our own life and offer you strategies to make friends with the devil on your shoulder - so you feel free to move towards the life you deserve.
