Failure imminent? Atlanta moves Messi to the brink of elimination

dimanche 3 novembre 2024Duration 06:06

In front of a roaring crowd of 68,455, Atlanta United pulled off a stunning upset, edging out Inter Miami 2-1 in extra time to force a decisive Game 3 in their MLS playoff series. Fans packed the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, making it the fifth-largest postseason crowd in league history, and they were treated to a thrilling underdog win. Inter Miami, the season’s record-breaking top seed, now faces elimination after a nail-biting loss that saw Atlanta come alive in the closing minutes.
The game-winning goal came from Atlanta’s Xande Silva, who scored in the fourth minute of stoppage time, sending the stadium into a frenzy. Interim coach Rob Valentine, leading Atlanta after they squeezed into the playoffs as a wild card, said, “It was everything I dreamed it would be, an unbelievable moment.”
Miami goalkeeper Drake Callender was understandably disappointed, saying, “It stings anytime you lose a game in stoppage time. We had a good opportunity to take it in two games, but now our focus is on Game 3 at home.”
Despite the loss, Miami’s coach Tata Martino remains confident, noting, “We have the advantage of many high-caliber players who have been through more difficult situations. I am satisfied with how they played, but frustrated with the result.” Martino pointed out that while Miami dominated possession and played aggressively, Atlanta capitalized on their few chances, including Derrick Williams’ equalizing header in the 58th minute.
Lionel Messi struggled to make an impact as Inter Miami fell to a 2-1 defeat against Atlanta United in the first round of the MLS Playoffs at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday, November 2. The Herons came into this match after a recent victory against the same team, but they couldn’t carry that momentum forward.
One fan called the team a “garbage low IQ team,” while another quipped about Messi’s performance, asking, “Where Messi?”
The defeat ties the best-of-three series at 1-1, with the final game set for Saturday, November 10, at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.

Messi acts in comedy, plays on phone during Miami game

lundi 29 juillet 2024Duration 04:13

A quiet week with Messi off the pitch.

He attended the Miami game where he was seen playing on his phone.

Messi has made a surprising venture into acting with his debut in the Argentine comedy-drama "Los Protectores" which  follows three football agents navigating the challenges of the industry while trying to avoid bankruptcy. In Messi's scene, one of the agents proposes an absurd business deal where Messi would play for different Argentinian football clubs each day in alphabetical order, potentially extending this scheme worldwide.

Messi has voiced his frustration following Argentina's tumultuous Olympic soccer loss to Morocco on Wednesday. In a dramatic match, Argentina seemed to secure a 2-2 draw in the 106th minute, only to face a series of chaotic events.

Argentina on to COPA finals with help of goal from Lionel Messi

mercredi 10 juillet 2024Duration 07:43

Lionel Messi, with his legendary left foot making more noise than his quiet demeanor, delivered a heartfelt message to his fans after leading Argentina to the Copa America 2024 final. In his usual soft-spoken manner, he urged everyone to savor these fleeting moments."It's crazy what this group did, what the Argentine national team has been doing. After this, much more importance will be given to all the finals that I and the old group had to play in," Messi said following the match at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. "We have to enjoy everything we are experiencing as a national team. What we have achieved is very difficult. We have to take advantage of it.""These are the last battles, and I am enjoying them to the fullest,"

In 2007, a young Lionel Messi posed for photos with a baby in the dressing room of Camp Nou in Barcelona for a charity calendar photoshoot. At just 20 years old, Messi was already establishing himself as a rising star and would later be considered one of the greatest footballers of all time. However, neither the photographer nor Messi knew that the baby in the photos would also rise to international football fame less than 17 years later. That baby was Lamine Yamal, who, at 16 years and 362 days old, became the youngest player to score in the European Championships with his memorable goal against France in the semi-final.

God Chose Me. PLUS Messi misses Penalty

vendredi 5 juillet 2024Duration 06:02

In a conversation with Argentina podcaster Juan Pablo Varsky, Messi reflected on his extraordinary talent and career, saying he was "chosen by God" for his footballing abilities. "It's very clear to me that I was born like this because God chose me," Messi shared. "It was a gift he gave me. I tried to take advantage of it, I did everything possible to squeeze the most out of it. The truth is, although I did many things, I did nothing to become the player that I already was when I was little."

Advancement came for Argentina, but not without a struggle, in their tense match against Ecuador. Argentina opened the scoring when Lisandro Martinez headed in a pass from Alexis Mac Allister during the first half. However, Just when it seemed Argentina would maintain their lead, Kevin Rodriguez headed in a last-minute equalizer for Ecuador, forcing the game into a dramatic penalty shootout. Messi's cheeky Panenka attempt hit the bar and missed, but goalkeeper Emi Martinez saved two shots, keeping Argentina in the game.

Miami will be Messi's last club

lundi 17 juin 2024Duration 06:10

He also shared how winning the 2022 World Cup with Argentina gave him a new perspective, allowing him to enjoy the remaining moments of his career more fully. He also discussed the possibility of playing in the 2026 World Cup, stating that his participation would depend on his physical condition and ability to compete at a high level.
