how to know if you are on the right path10 Nov 202300:43:28

in this very thought provoking episode (at least we thought so!) we discuss the notion of 'the right path' and discuss the following...

-is there such thing as a right path?

-what are the things to look out for when questioning this? (values, morals, happiness)

-being complacent/comfortable even if things don't feel 'right'

-the instability of life means that 'paths' are always changing

we discuss the privilege of being able to make changes in your life to better yourself and those around you.. and why its important to be grateful for that <3

we end on a personal note and ask ourselves if we feel like we are where we should/want to be..

let's be honest... what do we actually know about our own cycles and periods?? for me the answer is, shockingly little which is why i was so excited to record this episode!!

we talk about our personal experiences with understanding our own bodies/periods/contraception, as well as answer (aka i ask, they answer) lots of your questions around:

  • understanding hormones
  • periods
  • PMDD
  • menopause
  • contraception & what options are out there
  • how to educate yourself & be respected when you're at a doctor's office

the validation trap: why we crave being liked & why its a lie25 Jun 202500:54:44

this week (part 1 of our external validation series), we’re deep diving into a topic that’s come up again and again across our episodes : seeking external validation. Inspired by a beautiful piece of writing that perfectly captured our feelings (we read it at the start of the episode!), we reflect on our own relationships with validation, how it’s shaped our childhoods, friendships, and identities. from the desire to be liked in school, to the performative nature of social media, to internalising rejection from people we don’t even admire… we’re unpacking it all. we also explore the psychology behind validation seeking. it’s a vulnerable one, and we hope it makes you feel a little more understood 🤍

part 2 will be out next week where we get into the emotional cost of it all as well as our little toolkit on how to stop seeking it!

what actually goes down on billionaire yachts (and yes, jeff bezos was there)18 Jun 202501:03:02

this week’s episode is a whirlwind. leo takes us behind the scenes of her surreal work trip to the monaco grand prix — think superyachts, free drinks from restaurant owners, awkward encounters with billionaires, unexpected dance battles with martin garrix, and even spotting jeff bezos on her boat. yes, really.

but in true matcha diaries fashion, we balance this with reflection — from the absurdity of wealth culture to craving a quiet moment with a book on a bench. we also chat about high school reunions, summer nostalgia, the picture of dorian gray, and cara’s wholesome time back home in Jordan. it’s a chaotic, juicy, and very real episode!

stress & the price of wanting to “have it all”22 Jun 202300:48:16

hi everyone! welcome to an episode about stress... i don't know about you guys, but for me this has been VERY present in my recent life and has started to have real physical effects on me. so it's time to debrief about it, tackle it and stop the cycle! with the help of you lovely people who contributed on our instagram, this episode talks about:

  • how stress is currently impacting me
  • what you guys think about stress and wanting to "have it all"
  • stress management tips!!

remember that it's okay to eliminate certain stress inducing factors from your life, you're allowed to not do everything, all the time... !

(p.s. for those of you in want of some summer book recs, i also discuss my latest summer reads & summer reading list at the very beginning)

as mentioned in the episode, content might be a little different over the next coming weeks as cara is dealing with something in her personal life (which she'll talk about on the pod when she's ready <3) - so it'll just be me for a lil while 🥺. please let me know what you might wanna hear me talk about or people you'd like me to bring on.

why our inner critics can go f*** themselves30 Apr 202301:29:28

we think its time to tell our inner critics that they can go f*** themselves!!

In this longer episode (our way of saying a quick sorry for not uploading last week 🥺)  we're taking some time to reflect on our experiences with our inner critic.

But first we want to understand all about what actually is the ‘inner critic’. We'll be exploring the philosophy and history behind this phenomenon, as well as the neurophysiology that underpins our self-critical nature 🧠. We share examples of inner critic voices, how it affects us, and its links to various difficulties such as depression and anxiety. We also touch on the reasons why our inner critic should not be trusted ( it is not a true moral guide) and how it is usually formed as a response to environmental conditioning…

In next week’s episode we’ll be sharing tips and strategies for managing the inner critic, so that we can all practice more self compassion and self love  💞 and, as always, we want to hear from you! Let us know in the question below.. How do you manage your Inner critic? We’re so excited to share these and react to them in part 2 ✨

for people pleasers only...26 Feb 202300:25:02

do you notice yourself agreeing with others for the sake of agreeing? struggle to say no to others? constantly apologise for things? ... if you're saying yes then this episode is for you!!

in this solo episode, i (cara) sit down and share some of my personal experiences with 'people pleasing' and discuss the following topics and questions:

  • what people pleasing actually is and what does it look like?
  • how people pleasing and seeking external validation are interconnected
  • is seeking external validation always a bad thing?
  • what are the reasons why some of us people please?
  • how people pleasing can actually hinder relationships + foster a loss of authentic self
  • how to break this pattern of thinking and learn to take up space

just a reminder that your voice matters, you are worthy, and you deserve to take space <3

we had a rough week… tips on managing stress and work/life balance21 Feb 202300:49:05

Its just one of these weeks.. maybe something was in the air?? In this episode we discuss how we’ve been feeling recently and share our recent struggles with switching off from work when things are stressful, finding a better work life balance, and detaching our work from our identity. we talk about:

  • the importance of setting boundaries whilst knowing yourself worth
  • Detoxing from all technology after work Prioritising time for hobbies/body movements /outdoors
  • Detaching work from being a reflection on yourself (especially if you have people pleasing tendancies)

I (Cara) personally found this episode really helpful to talk through especially as I had quite a self-inflicted unhealthy week. I want this to be a reminder that its okay to have off weeks and to let yourself go.

Let’s recognise that we should be proud of ourselves and how we handle stressful situations, even when also highlighting and recognising that we could be kinder and have a healthier work balance in the future. If you're a student this episode can still apply to you as we recognise a lot of similar feelings that we had at uni/school!

the power of accepting the duality of life 05 Feb 202301:03:26

"Under heaven all can see beauty as beauty, only because there is ugliness. All can know good as good only because there is evil. Being and nonbeing produce each other. The difficult is born in the easy. Long is defined by short, the high by the low. Before and after go along with each other. So the sage lives openly with apparent duality and paradoxical unity.  - 2nd Verse of the Tao Te Ching

In this weeks episode, we have a lot of questions and thoughts hehe.. we discuss the concept of the duality of life and how understanding it and most importantly accepting it.. can change the way we perceive our life!!  Some specific topics we question are:

- can two things both be true at the same time ?

- the conflict and struggle of wanting and striving for self improvement and how that contradicts with self acceptance and self love

- how we're allowed to feel all the emotions present in the human experience at the same time

- how duality is present in both the human experience and in nature

- Is it true that you can only fully know one thing by understanding its opposite ? (love + loss, success + failure, dark + light, the good + the bad) ?

song reference: Happy & Sad by Kacey Musgraves

join us for the journalling challenge this week as we keep track of all of the supposedly contradicting moments of extreme emotion that we feel throughout each day!

breaking up with our past selves22 Jan 202300:44:46
being self aware and having a good understanding of yourself (i.e why you think things, why you feel things) has its perks, but is there such thing as being too self aware? are we spending too much time overthinking every emotion we feel? is our focus on self development hindering our ability to live in the moment? join us in this early morning coffee chat, as we try to figure out how to break the cycle of overthinking and negative self talk….and instead live life in the moment, taking each day as it comes ♥️ please pour yourself a matcha and enjoy listening! 🍵 Follow us on instagram (@the.matcha.diaries) to stay up to date on our lives, contribute to future episodes, and share any of your thoughts! how to live with intention (even when life feels messy)04 Jun 202501:01:40

this week on the podcast, I’m joined by a very special guest — my twin sister Yara 🤍

from afternoon chats over tea to honest reflections on heartbreak, burnout, and building a life that feels like yours — this episode is all about what it means to live with intention.

we talk about:

  • creating a home that reflects who you are (and why Yara ditched the TV for a projector + books)
  • why moving on after a breakup has no timeline — and how to come back home to yourself
  • what work-life balance actually looks like in your 20s
  • letting go of timelines and learning to embrace the messy, nonlinear path of real life
  • the joy, chaos, and closeness of growing up with a twin — and how we’ve both grown into wildly different, fully ourselves people

this episode is soft, silly, vulnerable, and grounding — a little reminder that you’re allowed to take your time, change your mind, and choose yourself every step of the way. 💌

how to appreciate the lows in life 15 Jan 202301:04:29

"i’ve been seeing my loneliness as an entity i live with, like a roommate. i take my loneliness on dates. we listen to sad music together. we sit together at dinner. i look it in the eyes. we don’t fight." - zoe berger

this truly is a very special conversation and might be one of my favourite guest episodes yet! cara & I were joined by the wonderful zoe who is a writer/graphic designer living in nyc to talk about loneliness, love, mental illness and everything in between. some specific q's we answer are:

  • how to find the beauty in loneliness and stop feeling ashamed?
  • how to deal with heartbreak or breakups?
  • what is it really like to live with BPD and depression?
  • how to know what medication or treatment is right for your mental illness?

recording this episode was so insightful to us because zoe has the most beautiful way of looking at life and the human emotional spectrum! i took sooo much away from this conversation and i'm sure you will too. <3
