Today’s guest is Dr. Limor Goren, Founder of kyoord where we will take a deep dive into the longevity and health optimization benefits of olive oil, what polyphenols are and their healing properties, including in fighting cancer, how olive oil improves brain function, why olive oil harvesting families keep the first bottles of the harvest and much more!

 

Dr. Limor Goren is the founder of kyoord. She is a cancer researcher with a PhD in Molecular Biology. Her research centers on one of the most important anti-inflammatory molecules found in medicinal olive oil called Oleocanthal. Dr. Goren discovered one of the mechanisms by which Oleocanthal is toxic to cancer and showed that olive oils that are rich in oleocanthal are an effective strategy to kill various types of cancer cells. Dr. Goren started kyoord after she received numerous requests from friends and family for the medicinal olive oil she used in her research, and realized it was not easily accessible in the US. She searched the world for the best high-phenolic olive oil and ultimately came across a small family-owned farm and mill in Corfu Greece, which had just won an award for having the highest concentration of oleocanthal ever discovered at that time. From here, kyoord was born and Dr. Goren’s mission to advocate for the health benefits of olive oil took hold. It is her goal to spread awareness about this holistic approach to health, and to make high-phenolic olive oil accessible to consumers.

Today’s guest is Leslie Kenny, founder of Oxford Healthspan. Leslie is a Southern Californian entrepreneur and graduate of both Berkeley and Harvard, whose life was turned upside down when she was diagnosed with lupus and rheumatoid arthritis in her 30s. When her doctors told her lupus had a life expectancy of five years and that RA could only be managed, not cured, she set out to optimize her health as best she could with safe, natural solutions. She went back to school at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in NYC, became a Bulletproof coach under health pioneer Dave Asprey, and took on health coaching clients worldwide.

 

At the same time, she began helping life science academics at European universities, including Oxford (where she lives), to raise money for their discoveries. At a meeting with one such scientist, she learned about a natural compound called spermidine, abundant in nattō, a traditional Japanese dish that she had grown up with. Spermidine was showing great promise supporting health as we age.

 

The science was compelling – one scientist even called it “an anti-aging vitamin” in a published scientific journal – and it was safe. Still, because it was natural, food-derived, and not a drug that would bring in more money, no one was interested in promoting it. Leslie immediately wanted her octogenarian mother back home in California to take it – especially since nattō is very hard to come by (it's pretty smelly, for one thing!). Unfortunately, spermidine wasn't available in the US (or really even known there). Spotting this unmet need, she decided to bring it to the US herself.

 

Today, at age 56, Leslie is living proof that we can get better with age, so long as we take responsibility for our health and meet our doctors halfway. Spermidine is part of her anti-aging arsenal, and she hopes it will become part of yours too.

My second guest is Dr. Laura McLean, a physician whose background includes practicing internal medicine, respirology, and critical care, and for the past 9 years, primarily sleep medicine. Most recently, Dr. McLean has been working as a consultant in sleep disorders in a multidisciplinary lifestyle medicine clinic in Canada. Today’s guest is gracing us with her presence once again for Round 2 - Elena Letyagina, Founder of Gut Philosophy and a Registered Nutritional Therapist with a data-driven personalized nutritional practice.

Elena is on a mission to educate and empower people about the role of gut health in overall wellbeing and uses a range of functional and genetic testing as well as wearable devices to reinforce positive changes. 

Elena is also the principal nutritionist at a London-based medical clinic and is currently completing advanced training with the Institute for Functional Medicine or IFM and Holds a qualification in Nutritional Therapy from The Institute for Optimum Nutrition. Elena is a Member of the British Association for Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine (BANT) and is Accredited by the Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC).

Longevity is the area of Elena's special interest.
