| NEW EPISODE!!! 109: Doula vs midwife: What's the difference? | 22 Mar 2022 | 00:26:17 | |
A doula and a midwife have a unique and important role to play in your birth plan. A midwife is a specialist who's qualified to deliver babies and care for a woman and her baby during pregnancy, labor and after the birth. A doula, on the other hand, can offer support, guidance and practical help throughout your birth and beyond. Some doulas may be trained midwives, but the term itself refers to a role that's not medically qualified. The purpose of World Doula Week is to empower doulas all over the world to improve the physiological, social, emotional, and psychological health of women, newborns and families in birth and in the postpartum period. Also, you asked- Should I Eat My Placenta? If you've ever had questions about the benefits of using your placenta - and the ways to do it - look no further than our conversation about it in this episode with Dr. Oakley and special guest Mandy Dalhover, Midwife/CNM. | Episode: 108: What the heck is up with period poop? | 16 Mar 2022 | 00:22:57
When we have these intimate conversations, maybe with a girlfriend or online, most women are pretty well-versed on their bloating, cramping or sore boobs. But when it comes to periods/menstrual conversations, it always seems to lead us to period poop. So let's talk about that in this episode with Dr. Oakley & Holly. We go over your questions about period poop in this episode like: 1. Why do we poop so much on our period? 2. Why does it feel like the worst poop ever? 3. Why can't I poop on my period? 4. Does anyone have problems pooping if they are wearing a tampon? I do. Ugh Why does it feel like the worst poop ever?! From front to back are your bladder, your uterus, and your rectum. These organs are all spooning together, like 3 P's in a pod (period, poop, and pee). Menstrual cramps can trigger the neighboring organs — if your uterus lays back a little, when you get menstrual cramps the pain can seem like it's coming from your rectum and makes you feel like you have to go poop, even out of nowhere, UGH!!! | 107: UTIs: We're spillin' the peeee! | 09 Mar 2022 | 00:28:51
UTIs are soooo annoying!!! If you haven't had one (you go, girl) but were are almost certain that your sister, best friend, cousin, college roommate, mom has had one, is having one, or is about to have one. UGH… A UTI is an infection of your bladder and urethra. When this bacteria sneaks into the bladder or urethra, it can cause an infection. It's more common in women because of our anatomy — our urethra is shorter than a dude's, so the bacteria has a shorter distance to travel, and it's closer to areas that might get a workout during sex. Even though UTIs are very common, it's not something you should ignore (even if you can!) because it can spread upwards and cause a kidney infection, which can also be serious. So, what can you do to solve a problem like... burning pee??!!! Dr. Oakley and Holly will cover it all in this episode but depending on what's causing your UTI(s), prevention is pretty straightforward. Be sure to: • Pee after sex • Stay hydrated • Pee whenever you have to, and make sure you 'GO' fully Maintain vaginal health with topical hormones and oral supplements as directed by your physician. Dr. Oakley loves and recommends Utiva to her patients and she takes it daily. Check it out: https://www.utivahealth.com/ - Her favorite is the Utiva Cranberry PACs: it's a simple, small, once-a-day pill taken for daily support of the urinary tract to prevent ongoing UTIs. | Ozempic Vagina: Saggy Labia or Yay-bia??? | 18 Dec 2025 | 00:25:11
Does your droopy ol' puss cause you to trap air bubbles? Is it from the atrophy of menopause like Dr Oakley - or from the unwanted side effects of Semaglutide Injectable medications like Ozempic? Dr Oakley discusses Brooke Shields' new memoir and the surgery called Labiaplasty.
| 105: Yup, period time | 28 Feb 2022 | 00:26:38 | |
What in the world is a normal period? This is a question we get ALL of the time so Dr. Oakley will tackle this topic head-on in this episode! As you're probably very familiar with, menstruation tends to last between 3-7 days, and it's accompanied by all sorts of fun stuff like cramping, mood swings, fatigue, and more! The good news is that the more familiar you get with what's going on with your body, the better you can prepare for what comes along with each phase. So let's go over some of these period topics, shall we? 1. Irregular Periods: Occasional irregular periods during various phases in a woman's life, such as puberty, pregnancy, or menopause, are normal and don't require intervention. However, irregularities that last longer than three months should be evaluated as they might have a more complex cause, like hormonal imbalance or thyroid disease. 2. Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) When PMS symptoms become severe and include extreme psychological symptoms, like depression, irritability, anger, or apathy, they might signal a PMDD. Unlike PMS, this disorder is classified as a mental disorder that can interfere with women's daily activities and relationships. 3. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), which is a hormonal disorder that can result in infrequent or missed periods among other symptoms, such as infertility, excessive hair growth, weight gain, or sleep disorders. Are there any other period things/questions you would like to ask Dr. Oakley? Feel free to email her at Theladybodpod@gmail.com. Thank you for listening. | 104: Mommy makeover | 18 Feb 2022 | 00:24:53
You've probably heard the term, and been intrigued. Yes, today, we're talking about The Mommy Makeover! Let's discuss what that term really means, and how extensive or involved it might be. As the name suggests, a "mommy makeover" is typically done after a woman is done having children and wants some assistance in restoring her pre-pregnancy shape. Mommy makeover is a term that encompasses a combination of the following surgical procedures: Labiaplasty, vaginal rejuvenation, vaginal tightening, liposuction, abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), and breast augmentation/lift. It's clear in the world of vaginal surgery, that once you get past the headlines and Real Housewives-style drama of Los Angeles plastic surgeons offices, there is a real need here: women who are suffering – from urinary incontinence, prolapsed bladders, pain, discomfort, or just dissatisfaction during sex… and there are now options out there for you. Dr. Oakley and our special guest Dr. Ryan Wilson board certified plastic surgeon and reconstructive surgery with The Plastic Surgery Group – will cover "Mommy Makeovers" to Nip/Tuck/Vagina and just about everything in between, we take a deep dive into what it means to love our bodies as moms, and all the different ways we do it in this episode. | 081: Can the COVID-19 vaccine affect my period? | 01 Sep 2021 | 00:17:06
As the COVID-19 vaccine rollout continues, more women report experiencing a change in their menstrual cycle after receiving their shot. While there's still research being done, cycle changes are very common and they can be attributed to stress, diet or other changes, so it's hard to link them to the vaccine. That said, many women have taken to social media to talk about how they're experiencing heavier-than-normal periods and other menstrual changes after getting vaccinated. To better understand these abnormalities, Dr. Oakley will explain, and Holly shares her menstruation experience following her vaccine in this episode. Allergens are also a common trigger for asthma episodes. In fact, allergic asthma is the most common type of asthma, and most people with asthma have at least one breathing allergy as well. Listen as our guest Dr. Latonya Brown, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Specialist at St. Elizabeth, sits down with Dr. Oakley and Holly to discuss allergic responses and what you can do about them. | 078: Summer sweat, water and sand can irritate your lady parts | 11 Aug 2021 | 00:23:39
Summer is the time for sand, sea and sweat, and because of that, your vagina needs extra care during these hot months. Our bodies, and in this case, our vaginas, do a great job of balancing themselves out; however, when you're lounging in a wet swimsuit, that balance can go out of whack. Chemicals from a pool and bacteria from the ocean and lakes get absorbed into your swimsuit's fabric. This creates a damp, warm place for budding germs to turn into a urinary tract infection (UTI), a bacterial overgrowth in the vagina known as bacterial vaginosis, or a yeast infection. Dr. Oakley will dive into how summer can take a toll on your lady parts and share the best summer tips for your lady bits. All of these infections are treatable, but best of all, easily preventable.
