Sergio E. Sanchez, DDS Assistant Professor, AEGD Program Director, Craniofacial Sciences, University of Connecticut, School of Dental Medicine Dr. Sergio Sanchez was born and raised in Peru. He received his Dental Degree from Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia School of Dentistry in 2004. After dental school, Dr. Sanchez completed a Diplomaed certification in Dental Esthetics from the School of Peruvian Dentistry. In 2008, he joined the Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) residency program at the University of Connecticut (UConn) School of Dental Medicine, where he completed two years of residency with an additional AEGD Fellowship. Immediately following his residency, Dr. Sergio Sanchez became a clinical instructor for the AEGD program at UConn School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Irina Dragan is an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine (TUSDM), in the Department of Periodontology. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. Her administrative responsibilities at TUSDM include serving as Director of Faculty Education and Instructional Development and Program Director for the Dental Educational Learning and Teaching Academy Fellowship. She is the Co-Course Director for Management of Complex Cases. This initiative was designed to strengthen and facilitate an interdisciplinary and interprofessional path forward for our profession that benefits clinicians (students, residents, private practitioners) and most importantly patients. As an enthusiastic and dedicated faculty at TUSDM, she has been actively involved with educational and clinical research projects. Dr. Marcelo Freire is an Associate Professor of the Genomic Medicine and Infectious Disease Department at the J. Craig Venter Institute. He is also an Adjunct Professor of Infectious Diseases at the School of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego. He received his clinical DDS from the University of Fluminense, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He later received his Ph.D. in Craniofacial Biology, focusing on Immune Engineering for Tissue Regeneration, from USC. He completed his Certificate in Periodontology and Doctor of Medical Sciences in Oral Biology from Harvard University. He completed postdoctoral research training in Immunology at the Forsyth Institute and was the award winner of the Balint Orban Memorial Award from the Academy of Periodontology. Dr. Freire previously served as a faculty member at Harvard and the Forsyth Institute and is a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. As a dual-scientist and clinician, Dr. Freire’s research focuses on the role of the human microbiome modulating chronic inflammation. His current NIH-funded research program focuses on finding immune signals that are common to oral and systemic chronic inflammation present in diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and periodontal diseases. By learning from complex host-microbial interactions, Freire’s team is shedding light on novel diagnostics for chronic inflammation to novel therapeutics in tissue regeneration. Hi folks! My name is Dr. Leonardo “Leo” Koerich I grew up in the southern part of Brazil, in a city called Florianópolis with a large, very close family all living pretty close by. I would never have thought that I would be the one in my family to leave the country and end up in North Carolina, but life takes us on some unexpected journeys sometimes, especially when you meet a special person! I completed my first dental degree at Federal University of Santa Catarina, which is in Florianopolis, Brazil. After graduating, I was invited to complete a one-year Post-Doc Fellowship at the Department of Orthodontics at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, where I also met my wife, Lindsey. Upon completion, I received a full scholarship for residency in Orthodontics at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, the first and most respected orthodontic residency in the country. After graduating, from the orthodontic program, I moved to Charlotte, got married to Lindsey, and then shortly after, completed the second round of dental school at Virginia Commonwealth University. I currently work as a general dentist with my practice limited to orthodontics. I am a strong believer that patient care starts by listening and understanding people’s concerns and desires, and my goals are to connect with people and to deliver a beautiful smile. When I am not in the office, you can find me teaching my kids how to play soccer, eating at the Brazilian bakery, and hanging out with my family.

Dr. Roya Zandparsa is a Professor and Biomaterials Course Director of the Department of Prosthodontics at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. She also is the President of American Academy of Dental Science. Dr. Roya Zandparsa received her DMD from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine and MSc in Biomaterials & Biomimetics and Certificate in Prosthodontics from New York University (NYU) Graduate School of Arts and Science and New York University College of Dentistry respectively. She completed a fellowship (ITI) in Implant Dentistry from Harvard University School of Dental Medicine, a fellowship in Academic Leadership from American Dental Education Association (ADEA) Leadership Institute, and obtained few certificates in advanced surgical implant Dentistry, Invisalign and 6 Month Smiles. Dr. Zandparsa has received numerous awards during her academic career in Prosthodontics for being an outstanding scholar & clinician from NYU College of Dentistry, and Deans’ Awards for Excellence in clinical teaching from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Roya Zandparsa was the Chair of Strategic Planning Steering Committee at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, which charted a new direction for the school. In addition to all her teaching responsibilities, She is serving as the Faculty Advisor and member of several different committees & organizations. She has been making major contribution in research in various areas, which resulted in numerous published articles and book chapters. She has been lecturing and presenting both nationally and internationally and reviewing manuscripts for the Journal of Prosthodontics, Journal of Oral Rehabilitation, and Clinical Oral Implants Research. She is also part of Editorial Board of MDPI (An Open Access Online Journal). She is an active member of American College of Prosthodontists, American Dental Education Association & American Academy of Dental Science. Andreina Bracho, D.D.S. Dr. Andreina Bracho received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Universidad Central de Venezuela in 2009. She worked as a general dentist for a few years before pursuing her specialty. During that time, she discovered her love for pediatric dentistry. She completed her pediatric residency at Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts, receiving two awards at her graduation – clinical achievement and performance in orthodontics. She is always eager to learn more in order to provide exceptional care and a pleasant experience for her patients. Dr. Bracho is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association, Florida Dental Association, Florida Academy of Pediatric Dentists and the Pan-American Dental Society. Mario F. Romero is the Director of Romero Dental Seminars. He received his DDS degree from the University of Guayaquil (Ecuador) School of Dentistry in 1995. He then completed a two year Advanced Education in General Dentistry Program at the University of Rochester, Eastman Institute for Oral Health where he was granted the Handleman Award for Excellence. In 2001 he was named one of the “Most Prominent Dentist” by the Ecuadorian Dental Federation. In 2016 he received the American College of Dentist Outstanding Faculty Award. In 2019 he received the Excellence in Dental Education Award from Pierre Fauchard Academy. He has published several research papers as well as many clinical articles in operative dentistry, occlusion, implant and esthetic dentistry. He has over 100 lecture presentations and hands-on courses at many major dental meetings, nationally and internationally and has been practicing restorative dentistry for over 27 years treating complex cosmetic and implant cases. He currently practices in beautiful Cape Coral Florida.

Following a successful career as a private practice dentist, Dr. Callan returned to his alma mater, DCG as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Oral Rehabilitation. He served as Chair of the Department of General Dentistry for 11 years. He has since received a Specialist degree in Educational Leadership and his Doctoral degree in Educational Innovation. Dr. Callan retired from the faculty of his alma mater in December 2019. Dr. Callan is a dental education consultant and continues to conduct research on the application of digital technologies in the education of health professionals. Donna Armstrong- Board Member. Donna has been leading the design and operation of business services her entire career. Her career has been focused on providing business services that balance operational efficiency and world-class customer experience. She uses her detailed orientation for results to ensure all dental simulation educational courses are properly tested and delivered at all educational centers with a passion for her customers.
