Episode 242 - The Role of 40k in Life and Work

Season 1 · Episode 242

jeudi 15 août 2024Duration 02:05:52

Make sure you stay through the end of the episode to hear a potential new intro song for the show! Let us know your thoughts.

Episode 242 of The Independent Characters has us joined by Skye Herrick, who is filling in for Josh at the moment. Skye and Carl spend time discussing how Warhammer 40k (and other gaming related things) can help both your personal and professional life. What skills they help develop, and how you can think about balancing your time for what is important to you.

Special Thanks to Corporate Citizen for their music!

Episode 241 - Fostering a Positive Community

Episode 241

lundi 15 juillet 2024Duration 02:24:20

Josh will be on a (hopefully) short hiatus from the show. In the meantime we will have a rotating cast of guest hosts as we continue to move forward. Unfortunately, this puts our video efforts temporarily on hold (except for when we do remote interviews). However, the shows audio content continues!

This episode has Carl joined by friend, local friendly game store owner, and sponsor, Skye Herrick of Herrick Games and Hobbies! After our usual hobby progress and games played section, we move on to our main topic which seeks to answer the question, "How do you create and sustain a positive gaming community?"

With Skye joining us, we have some interesting insight into how the answer to that question may differ for a business as opposed to someone running a club or just local group of friends.

We also discuss a bit of the Hobby Progress Challenge for 2024/2025 - if you aren't aware of it, you can find more information on our website.

We hope you enjoy!

Episode 232 - The Warrior Lodge: Collab Edition

Episode 232

In Episode 232 we are joined by not one, but two, distinguished guests! Distinguished may be pushing it, but we are joined by Campbel McLaughlin and Dan Boyd of the 40k Badcast! Two of our favorite people in 40k provide us with a ton of great discussion around various topics that are floating around the Warhammer universe at this time in an episode we are calling The Warrior Lodge - Collab Edition!

We hope you enjoy Episode 232 as much as we did recording it!

Episode 143 - Show of Force: The Dark Kin of Commorragh

lundi 14 novembre 2016Duration 03:34:22

Episode 143 of The Independent Characters brings us back to the Show of Force format. This time it’s Show of Force: The Dark Kin of Commorragh.

To help us uncover the secrets of this awesome army, we have brought none other than Brian Harvey (evilspaceelves) of the Splintermind Podcast into the studio. We also give him a chance to unburden himself with his hobby progress.

One note: the final thirty minutes of the show has some audio interference that appears to be either from a bad mic cable or a failing sound board. Unfortunately there was nothing we could do to get rid of it. Hopefully it isn’t to distracting as the content is really quite good.

We also have an interview with the owners of Tablewar! Doug and Todd join us to talk about their newest Kickstarter - The Macromats! If you are posting pictures of your miniatures online, you NEED this product! Not sure why Doug sounds like Darth Vader during this interview - but such is the problems you deal with when using Skype.

We hope you enjoy the show!

Episode 141 - Exploring The Black Crusades

mardi 11 octobre 2016Duration 02:53:33

Episode 141 of The Independent Characters addresses the thirteen black crusades of Abaddon!

For years people have maligned the leader of Chaos as a failure. We are here to tell you that is not the case. This episode, in honor of the release of Traitors Hate, we take a close look at the 12 previous Black Crusades led by the chosen of Chaos and then take a deep long look at the 13th Black Crusade.

We apologize (again!) for the delays in getting the show out, but Carl was in the hospital for dehydration as a result of the stomach flu. We are back though. Our next episode is already scheduled for recording, so we shouldn't have any more delays. We hope you enjoy the show!

Episode 140 - Show of Force: Disciples of the Machine God

lundi 5 septembre 2016Duration 02:49:24

Episode 140 of The Independent Characters continues our Show of Force series. This time it is the Adeptus Mechanicus and Skitarii forces that we cover in depth!

To assist Carl, we have brought on two members of our gaming group that play the AdMech and Skitarii forces. Michael and Colin are both very strong painters and players. The wealth of knowledge between the two of them will providde insights that we are certain you will find entertaining.

Because we have a new guest on the show, he lets slip with some language you wouldn't normally hear on our program. It's nothing to terrible, but I felt we should warn you up front. It's for this exact reason we carry the explicit tags on all of our episodes.

We hope you enjoy the show!

Episode 138 - Horus Heresy Book VI: Retribution (Part One)

mercredi 24 août 2016Duration 03:11:23

Episode 138 of The Independent Characters is a long one... that we end up cutting short due to Carl losing his voice.

The primary subject of this episode is our long awaited coverage of Forge Worlds Horus Heresy Book 6: Retribution. This is part one of our two part coverage of this incredible book.

In this part of our coverage we discuss much of the background of the book as well as a general overview of what is contained within.

In addition to that we have two great interviews! One with Dave Taylor about the Nova Open Charitable Foundation and the incredible raffles they are running this year for a great cause. But please don't join them because Carl is trying to win and has already bought his tickets!

Next up is an interview with Jason about the Wargasm 40k event in Calgary! This sounds like a great event if you are in the area and looking for some incredible Warhammer 40k to attend.

We hope you enjoy the show!

Episode 137 - Basic Tactics: Space Marines

vendredi 22 juillet 2016Duration 02:43:35

Episode 137 of The Independent Characters takes us back to some basics. And by that we mean basic tactics.

After a lengthy Workbench and Games Played discussion, we get into a two part segment on Basic Tactics with Jody and Jason. This covers each phase of the Warhammer 40k game as it is played on the tabletop.

After that, we figured we would kick off an ongoing segment on Basic Tactics about each army. We of course, start with the Space Marines.

For more advanced players of Warhammer 40k, some of this information may be redundant. But we have found that going back to the beginning, sometimes reminds you of insights you may have overlooked. Either way, we hope you enjoy the show!

Don't forget to listen to the end after the credits to learn about our new contest!
