Oct 25 2024- Former Flophouse Resident Wants City To Shut It Down 25 Oct 202400:44:56

Follow-ups on "Nightmare on Watt Street", more about Plan 2050, and asking if civic politicians played politics with commemorative awards, are what you'll hear in Episode 28!

Part 1- Lots of horror stories continue to emerge after Marty's column in the Winnipeg Sun exposed a rooming house wreaking havoc on a working class neighborhood in East Kildonan. The interview with the whistleblower in the last episoderecounted the ways the City of Winnipeg has failed to protect the community.

Coun. Jason Schreyer is scrambling to hold public meetings to turn things around- even as advertising appeared on Thursday to fill a vacant bedroom for $650 a month.

You'll hear reaction not only from readers, but audio from a recovering addict who lived there until March, confirming one of the deaths that occured inside the Watt St. "death trap" and outraged the rental property is still operating.

Harvey Smith made a point of taking a drive through his ward to see for himself what was happening at night. Do any city councillors do that anymore? No one is speaking up for area families and businesses in fear of more arsons, crime and deaths- and we will keep the pressure on to help them.

23.20 Part 2- A telephone referendum, held in the RM of Springfield by a taxpayer's rights group, showed an incredible degree of opposition to Metro's Plan20-50. Will the rump WMR caucus still supporting the plan- led by Mayor Gillingham - persist in calling them "misinformed" or "conspiracy theorists"? There's 2900 folks in that RM who'd challenge the name-callers.

Who would residents of Winnipeg ask if they wanted to know how Plan20-50 will affect them? Months later, the City can't answer that question.

31.00- Another story about crime and disorder affecting law-abiding property owners and residents is in the Winnipeg Sun today.

Riverbank ‘garbage dump’ impacting ability to attract tenants to downtown building

Marty Gold spoke with a representative of the high-end apartment complex at 300 Assiniboine, who have challenged Mayor Gillingham and Premier Wab Kinew to remove the garbage-strewing, arson-starting, drug-using homeless encampments behind their building on the banks of the Assiniboine River.

33.00- Politicizing the Winnipeg 150 Awards has fueled even more cynicism towards City Hall.

An email from a listener - one of many, actually- raised questions about the choices the Mayor and city councillors made for Winnipeg 150 medals, supposedly "nominated for their significant contribution to their neighbourhood or the city at large."

Some are clearly deserving of recognition.

Others, such as a CBC radio host with no listed volunteer activities since moving here, seem to have been beneficiaries for political purposes.

Some check all the right boxes- except the boxes denoting the actual pre-requisites for the medals. Should people doing a job at a city-funded agency get an award for simply doing the jobs thay are paid to do?

Coming up- Transit undermines driver and rider safety; more trouble from downtown homeless encampments; Vandal says vamanos to politics...

Oct 20 2024- Years Of Drugs, Disorder, Death At EK Crime Hub21 Oct 202401:02:34

Our public safety investigations continue with an exclusive interview in Episode 27, about a house on Watt Street in East Kildonan that has been the source of mayhem for years with no relief for area residents.

It was the topic of our Winnipeg Sun column today- Five Bodies Later, Neighbours Sound Alarm Over Elmwood Flophouse.

You'll hear a neighbour tell all about the constant drug and criminal activity around the rental property; the fear and intimidation everyone feels; and the lack of help they've gotten from the City and their councillor. Only a provincial justice department enforcement program brought a brief respite.

Part 1- Marty catches listeners up on his recent reports on how unsafe taking Winnipeg Transit has become, more controversy about a guest speaker the Winnipeg School Division already apologized for, and riverbank homeless encampments.

6.48 - Nightmare on Watt Street, is what the print headline said. More tips and details have poured in confirming it.

One clarification is required- the corner house in question actually falls a few blocks outside the traditional Elmwood border, which is not Munroe. Who knew?

E-transfers, sponsor inquiries, comments, news tips- martygoldlive@gmail.com

Part 2- Marty Gold has an exclusive interview with a homeowner in direct sight of a rental property that's wreaking havoc on the peace of the neighborhood

In the last five years, the rooming house with a revolving door of troublemakers has only been quieted after seeking help under the provincial Safer Communities Act.

"Al" recites the laundry list of emergency police and fire response calls, arsons, harassment, filth and break-ins. He says he saw 5 deceased individuals lugged out of the flophouse in the last 18 or so months.

A constant coming and going of drug buyers, stolen bikes and thieves destroys the peace and quiet residents expect. His experience with a break-in to his garage illustrates the collapse of the justice system.

22.25- Al and a number of other residents claim that they sent messages and complaints to Councilor Jason Schreyer when calling 311 and police failed to produce a pro-active community safety initiative. From used needles near the schools to a mom and child harassed at the bus stop, public safety in EK is at serious risk, but Schreyer says he never got Al's calls.

"I find that very hard to believe."

Marty and Al talk about fires around the area including a hydro pole, and whether city administration is keeping information from councilors about problem spots in their own wards.

Coun. Schreyer told Marty he's prepared to convene town halls about crime in the ward. Al suggests "he'll get an earful."

30.50 - Al also works downtown and sees plenty of incidents there too. He's asked about Mayor Gillingham's approach to deteriorating public safety.

"By far this is the worst I've ever seen it," Al says, and complains "I never see anyone get arrested." He also has criticism for Premier Wab Kinew- calling for more treatment and getting tougher on drug dealers.

40.00 Part 3- You'll hear the frustrating experiences of other EK residents trying to get help from the authorities and Schreyer, and the councillor's explanations and plan to meet with the community.

Listen for the feedback to the Sun column, the scepticism now facing Schreyer, and a surprising tip about one of the deaths.

How badly is City Hall failing the good people in Elmwood and EK trying to raise their families and live in peace?

Damn near 100%.

Aug 26 2024- Coun. Mayes To Hold Town Hall On City Transportation2050 Plan27 Aug 202400:52:16

The continuation of our interview with St. Vital councilor Brian Mayes has a few surprises for Episode 18.

Part 1- A shout-out to our listeners outside of Manitoba and the readers of Marty's column sin the Winnipeg Sun. Hear a review of the impact of recent stories about Plan20-50 as an example of the work supported by our sponsors and donors.

8.28 Part 2- Civic issues relating to public information and consultation, and city staff falling far short of their duty:

- Is the city Transportatation2050 plan merely formalizing an existing administration practice to "Design streets with emergency vehicles in mind?" Mayes confirms that even as chair of Community Services, he has "no memory of ever talking about that."

He commits to asking how city staff decided there was not a "significant" delay to emergency service response caused by the Goulet bike lane bottleneck.

14.30 - Mayes says it was a "poor" decision by bureaucrats to give only one day's notice about pop-ups at local malls to explain Transportation2050 to the public. (Their excuse? it's not part of the public consultation process so there's no minimum notice required.)

He agrees that the purpose of those sessions is to give residents a chance to evaluate the plan and then tell their councilors what they think. The limited times and venues chosen excluded too many Winnipeggers.

"You'll show up at the mall? And nobody will spot that (pop-up)... I feel a town hall coming on."

Mayes will be focusing on the lack of planning for modifying St. Mary's Road to manage traffic flow.

18.00- Hear Mayes describe:

- How planners made assumptions when no money is alloted, wanting to "authorize density on the idea that oh, there'll be a bridge here (to the U of M)... it just seemed hare-brained."

- "I voted for a bunch of this stuff under Mayor Bowman's fairly grandiose plans and the bills are now coming due... I think we'd be better off saying we can't afford to do a ton of this stuff, let's revise Our Winnipeg down to a much shorter list."

- "The disconnect between the planning and the transportation has got to get better."

- Mayes compliments transit planners for paying attention to residents in his ward

- The city transportation plan was going to be subservient to the Metro region Plan2050, yet city bureaucrats admitted the WMR plan was only 'alluded' to in the City plan.

- Mayes has concerns about water and sewage capacity as housing expands in the city and nearby RMs.

"We can all say we want more housing but at the end of the day, we got to have a sewer system that can handle that and I'm not convinced that we do."

32.00- Part 3- Crime and Public Safety update

We have the latest on the August closing of 3 convenience stores, in EK, St. B, and the West End.

40.25 - You won't believe the extraordinary measures that retailers are taking to secure snack and grocery items. These closures and security concerns are devastating to the employees and degrade the quality of life for the community.

- A trio of intoxicated teenage thugs - armed with a machete and an ax - ruined the lives of a 15 year old boy on Selkirk and an 80 year old homeowner on Pritchard this month. The north end wonders, do these kids have a social worker involved? Maybe Nahanni Fontaine can tell them.

The new column in the Sun exposed years of complaints about cyclists and others racing at high speed over the Tremblay bridge into the Archwood neighborhood. Animals have been hurt, and private property damaged.

https://winnipegsun.com/opinion/columnists/gold-speeding-cyclists-on-collision-course-with-homeowners

St. Boniface councilor Matt Allard did what he usually does when aggressive cyclists endanger the public- nothing.

You'll hear an update from Saturday night about the kind of accidents waiting to happen that were witnessed.

Oct 23 2023- "Randomly Wiping Out Parking" For Bike Lanes Must Stop, Says Coun. Wyatt 24 Oct 202300:55:31

In Episode 20 we interview Transcona Councilor Russ Wyatt, following up on his remarks at a Public Works committee meeting challenging the anti-car agenda of Ft. Rouge rep Sherri Rollins.

Wyatt spoke out against the bike lane and road closure demands of Rollins, and wants the City to adapt a local improvement petition process to get stakeholder approval of bike lanes, instead of "randomly wiping out parking for residents and small businesses."

4:38 - Wyatt explains why he questioned Rollins about the loss of Osborne Village parking for new bike lanes:

- The parking management plans for new developments were approved when hundreds more public parking spots were available. Wyatt asked Rollins if the plans are being revised, and she fumed.

- Hear him blast the faux "public consultations" held in the Village and in St. Boniface; he complains the City is telling residents and mom & pop shops "this is happening whether you like it or not."

- "Other cities have established programs to upgrade intersections along major regional streets, we're doing the exact opposite."

- The City has $180M to properly repair every sub-par street, and treat business and home owners fairly, "if we have the vision and political will to do it."

Marty points out, the MSM has defended the rigging of the bike lane process, which is counter-productive to the public interest.

16:40 Part 2 with Coun. Russ Wyatt

- Wyatt confirms that City Councilors were never informed that 99 parking spots were being erased around Goulet and Marion for bike lanes in the St. Boniface Hospital district, and never heard of a plan to remove parking on Traverse.

- From Arlington in the west end to Youville in St. B, the total parking loss for bike lanes is almost 400 parking spaces. No one could have run for Mayor on that platform and win.

- Wyatt says that Mayor Scott Gillingham promised the Chamber of Commerce he'd be focused on 'customer service'. But instead, small businesses are being hammered by a biased bureaucracy.

"The Goulet project could have been stopped by this Mayor... I don't know why the tail is wagging the dog." said Wyatt,

24.00 Hear the roll call - 7 of the current members of Winnipeg Council, including Wyatt, voted to accept the audit of the Assiniboine Bike Lane a decade ago.

They vowed in Jan. 2012 to ensure the public and affected businesses and property owners were given full information about potential impacts of roadway changes. Will they stand up to the bike lobby as they promised?

"I remember when that bike lane went down and all hell broke loose... If we take the word of the Mayor, 'the culture has to change'. When?" asks Wyatt.

Later this week- more with Russ Wyatt about the state of the City, and more about yet another proposed business-busting bike lane.

34:24 Part 3 - 'Seig Heil' hailed at Jewish protesters

- Marty provides a round-up of antisemitic and pro-Hamas activities in Winnipeg, including Nazi imagery at protest marches, and harassment of Jews in the community (one window shot out and counting).

- A columnist in the University of Manitoba newspaper said the Islamist gang rape and butchering of civilians in the Sinai was 'understandable': https://themanitoban.com/2023/10/destruction-of-gaza-forecasted-in-film/45874/

- The blow-up between competing rallies at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights shows that the police made a big mistake by not acting the first time an Israeli flag was stolen, in 2021.

The local Palestinian spokesman, who lauded Hitler's genocide against Jews in the past, told the media "that's just the way things go". Do Mayor Gillingham and Premier Kinew accept that?

Oct. 20 2023- Kinew Eases Into Manitoba’s Left Turn21 Oct 202300:54:25

We tidy up some closing notes on the Manitoba election to start off Episode 19, with a review of the appointments to cabinet by NDP Premier Wab Kinew.

His Addictions Minister has already assured the media a "safe injection" site is planned for somewhere... will Bernadette Smith volunteer the neighborhood she lives in for the location? Hear how a 'free drugs' policy is eroding NDP support in BC.

10.40- A listener steered Marty Gold to the video of Global's election night interview with Douglad Lamont to review.

Accordingly, we correct the record and apologize to reporter Rosanna Hempel - she had the details right, and it was her colleague who royally screwed up.

15:24 Part 2 - Terrorist supporters hacked PC leader Heather Stefanson's IG account, as pro-Hamas marches continue unabated across the country.

In Winnipeg the demonstrations have been less volatile than in the east, but continue to spout genocidal chants. Listeners alerted Marty to Winnipeg newsrooms airing those chants as part of their uncritical news coverage as well as debunked claims Israel bombed a hospital.

20.20- Winnipeg listeners may want to ask the Mayor and City Councilor to take action after antisemitic hate chants were incorporated into an 'otherwise peaceful' rally on Broadway.

At a similar 'pro-Palestine' rally in Toronto, an interview put a young woman in the spotlight for insisting the Hamas murders of 1400 Israelis was "justified". People immediately dug into her background, which she falsified.

Hear Marty's email exchange with Geoff Matheson of Convenience Group, who says Essra Karam never worked there and the outrage directed at the company was "devastating to our company and our employees..."

"Her employment with Convenience Group was false information which was gathered from misinformation on LinkedIn... I believe all of Convenience Group’s current employees have the same values as I do.  I do not condone or support any individuals (or groups) opinions or actions, that bring harm or hardship to another person”.

Marty also provides another example of how deep the pro-Hamas rot goes in Canada, especially in Universities, quoting from a PhD candidate at York who is now on a work-to-rule.

We detail Dina Alkilani's previous tweets and comments that prove her hatred extends not only to "IsraHel", but to anyone defending Jews- including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

36:02 Part 3 - From The Mailbag

Hear about the rigged City of Winnipeg survey on reduced speed neighborhoods; the radical rants of the anti-car VisionZero crowd; and more criminal activity associated with a homeless camp in St. Boniface that maybe, for once, Coun. Matt Allard should pay attention to.

Marty concludes Episode 19 with the announcement of a special interview that will be posted Sunday night with a City Councilor who has a lot to say about bike lanes, traffic gridlock, and city "engineering" practices. You won't want to miss it!

Oct 17 2023- Hamas Celebrated Across Canada, "Where Evil Comes To Thrive"17 Oct 202300:44:14

Episode 18 provides a rundown of the recent actions and statements of supporters of Hamas across Canada, including in Winnipeg.

You'll hear about the organization behind the cross-country rallies and the link to a terror group that takes credit for being part of the murderous October 7th raid on Israel. TGCTS compiled the genocidal chants heard on our streets at the events and the harassment of Jews that followed.

Part 1- A Winnipeg Sun story confirms that City Hall was the stage for terrorist propaganda on Thanksgiving Day. 'Gaza supporters' characterized the orgy of torture and murder of infants and grandparents as "retaliation"- an excuse even Prime Minister Trudeau refuted.

Marty Gold walks through the competing rallies and marches this week, the strong but belated statements of Mayor Gillingham and Police Chief Danny Smyth decrying the glorification of Islamist killers as 'freedom fighters', the harassment of Jewish university students, and reviews local MSM coverage and corrections.

The Winnipeg media don't report on the pro-Hitler online posts made by the local spokesman for the Palestinian community in the past. We do.

* You can sponsor podcasts /donate by email/or send along story tips:  martygoldlive@gmail.com

21:00 Part 2 - As Marty explains, political leaders in Winnipeg turtled when a pro-Israel rally was mobbed on May 21 2021, screaming the same threats that played out in the Sinai. Now, maybe, elected officials will take Islamist antisemitism seriously.

A Cross-Canada round-up- Hear how:

- the Jewish community in Winnipeg offered support to a traveling performer isolated by the rest of the troupe

- a 7 year old boy was beaten up in Mississauga,

- arrests were made after threats to Jewish students in Toronto, and after antisemitic violence in Vancouver,

- Calgary was host to a dreadful love-in for terrorism, led by a radical activist who was welcomed to Parliament Hill last year because 'diversity is our strength'.

33.00 Listen to the condemnation of our country becoming a place "where evil comes to thrive" by Tristin Hopper.

He said media coverage by CBC and other outlets was "stomach-churning", that terror-cheering unions like CUPE cannot be trusted, and asked "so when do we declare the Palestinian flag a hate symbol. I'm not seeing a lot of them being waved by people who don't support mass murder..."

As France, Germany and the UK take action against what Imam of Peace describes as "Islamist Naziism" and the EU withholds funding for Gaza, the Trudeau government ducks.

Over a dozen American universities saw harassment and violence by "pro-Palestinian" groups as BLM Chicago celebrated the attack on Israeli civilians. Canadian universities and BLM supporters are no different, but the media won't tell you about it.

As Marty explains, radical Islamists and Marxists promote "decolonization" as a means to an end- it starts with the Jews, then it will be the Christians, and then other ethnicities.

Oct 14 2023 - Russ Wyatt Blasts Bike Lanes As Rollins' Anti-Car Agenda Stalls 15 Oct 202300:53:24

Marty Gold opens Episode 17 by thanking listeners who've expressed their concern and support after the war started in Israel. Those issues, the local impact and local media coverage will be in the next episode. We filed a story as soon as we learned of the kidnapping of former Winnipeg resident Vivian Silver, and provide her own words to describe her career working for peace:

Hamas Terrorists Kidnap Peace Activist Originally from Winnipeg ******

4.30 - It was back to the future for Transcona Councilor Russ Wyatt! He reminded fellow Public Works committee members that installing the Assiniboine bike lane in 2010 resulted in perpetual gridlock downtown- and he's not going to let Coun. Sherri Rollins make it worse with her latest urban visionary ideas.

You'll hear a lot of audio from the Oct. 10 Public Works meeting, with Marty connecting the dots.

9:17 - "Vision Zero" champion Rollins, whose Fort Rouge ward includes downtown, appeared in delegation to "implore" that the Public Works committee immediately order plans for design changes at major intersections to thwart traffic because of the "frequency" and "predictability" of pedestrian deaths... of course it's all "urban form" approved by the bike lobby.

14.03 - If her presentation didn't make sense, don't worry, because Marty unravels it- explaining the background of the idea, abandoned by the Manitoba Club, to close the Assiniboine intersection at Main Street. Rollins, clearly uninformed, insists it must be revived.

21:59-  Hear Russ Wyatt quiz Rollins about her anti-car ideas, asking how many parking spots are lost for new bike lanes in Osborne Village. (Rollins answered "Quite a few", which by the way, is 206.)

He noted other factors Rollins ignores, like property owner rights; then they spar over her next election bid.

31:51 Part 2 - Audio of Councilors Wyatt, Lukes, Chambers and Sharma debating the 3-headed motion.

34:02 -  You'll hear the instant Wyatt and Chambers realize the Rollins plan to block the Assiniboine corner means 'no more left off of Main?"

Listen to annoyed public service experts and Coun. Chambers walk thru the current and proposed traffic flow and how "This isn't a complete street concept."

39:52 – We review how a drive from St. Boniface to the Hotel Fort Garry will be delayed by this iteration of "Vision Zero".

41:14 - Russ Wyatt provides a history lesson and harkens back to our coverage on Kick-FM. He warned councilors: "'Imposing the bike lanes on Assiniboia" led to 13 years of headaches.

Based on a City audit our reporting provoked: "(the mayor) said we'd never do it again... but here we are again, proposing to close something which is not broken."

Wyatt pipes up for the residents of downtown and the suburbs "who actually take that left turn..." because Broadway was turned into a total shambles. "Now we're proposing to make it even worse??"

Wyatt also mentions legal repercussions past - and in the future. "Why do we have staff doing reports on things we aren't going to be doing?""

Oct 4 2023 - Wab’s Waffle to the Right Wins06 Oct 202300:54:31

The cult of personality - and what used to be called a high 'Q' factor - helped propel Wab Kinew and the NDP to a majority government on Tuesday.

In Episode 16, Marty Gold looks at the Manitoba election, the winner's careful steps to the right on key platform issues and how a compliant media - as we discussed here - was all-in for their former cohort.

Kinew of course, was never described as “heartless” for never apologizing to the cab drivers he ripped off and fought, and he was never described as “heartless” for never apologizing to the common law wife he dragged by the hair after the guests left.

Who were the other gangbangers that hopped into the taxi with Wab Kinew and had no intention of paying for the ride? The media never asked to speak with them. Just like it appears they never asked to speak to Kinew's ex, Tara Hart.

It’s all an extension of the far-left narrative that we analyzed in January - The Stories Winnipeg MSM Tell, and Some They Don’t Tell.

Marty describes the guiding hand of Brian Topp, who successfully camouflaged the dreadful Rachel Notley in Alberta, and then sold the public a kinder and gentler (than the Tories) Manitoba NDP. The dark days of Greg Selinger didn’t present an obstacle and the media gladly played along when former Premier Gary Doer, who apparently had never met Kinew, dropped a hearty endorsement of Wab.

Kinew kept the fuse on his temper dry, kept the anti-business, critical race theory radical candidates under control, and then waffled to the right by saying he’d continue affordability cheques started by the PCs and getting tough on gangsters.

Marty also looks at the Tory campaign, that needed to run on a happy note of fiscal recovery, health care hiring and a modern economic plan featuring rare earth minerals - but, they didn’t get the tune right.

11.00 - Listener reactions: the election, the results, their disillusionment with Manitoba politics and the social engineering the NDP will undertake to entrench their ideology.

"You thought Selinger was bad."

"Hopelessly and thoroughly unimpressed with the candidates in my area"

Marty ends with a quote from WinnipegTribune.ca: "Manitobans will have to remain vigilant, active participants in the democratic process to ensure that their province prospers and that any potential mistakes are rectified in due course."

20:40 Part 2 - Election officials screw-up

Miracle of miracles, the Editor of the Free Press and TGCTS agree on something! Elections Manitoba makes "conspiracy theories" look good by insisting it was "a free and fair election" after broken voting machines, delayed vote counts, and "dodging the media on the day after a provincial general election." One candidate relayed a serious problem with proving the vote counts are accurate.

33.40 - Corus Media screws up even worse

Marty was at Dougald Lamont's last campaign appearance on Monday and watched his departure from the political scene after a bitter defeat on election night.

Global TV and CJOB made his night even worse with the single worst election night interview in broadcast history. We have the audio of Lamont's reaction to what was said to him live on air, and how the Global panel tried to hide their embarrassment.

Oct 1 2023- Why Winnipeg Media is Silent on Evidence of Anti-Christian Hate Crime 03 Oct 202300:45:19

In Episode 15, we present another Lesson in Journalism, and explain how the media narrative during the Manitoba election kept certain inconvenient facts out of the public square.

As Marty Gold describes, throughout the campaign the media has pumped up themes like "social justice", public safety and health care, and it's been largely one-sided. They certainly didn't look into the background of major NDP figures and demand accountability.

The media controls the narrative by promoting far-left causes they sympathize with and dampening inconvenient facts contradicting the narrative.

Has any TV newsroom mentioned the defacing of Heather Stafanson's constituency office yet? Signaling it's merely 'minor vandalism' - who benefits from that silence? The politicians supporting the intimidation of opponents, perhaps.

Your support is needed now to expand our local reporting and public affairs coverage- help us via paypal.com/paypalme/MartyGoldMedia

This episode is about a small church that was targeted by thieves. Only one newsroom reported on it, and proved that when it comes to crime in Winnipeg, the narrative is tightly controlled.

In this instance, it started with the Free Press headline that makes no mention of the church, or the break-in. Marty walks through the odd twists and turns the narrative takes, with diversions into unrelated information about shoplifting and 'food insecurity'. Anything to make the break-in sound like an oddity and not a big deal- because the newspaper focused on how the church fridge was emptied.

16:38 While the Free Press didn't check the crime angle, we did. You'll hear Don Woodstock of JamRock Security, who hadn't heard about this case, confirm that churches are increasingly targeted.

Later in the podcast, he reacts to learning the full extent of the damage to church property, and the lack of alarm about an apparent hate crime from the media and from authorities.

20:20 -Part 2 - The newspaper article buried the lede all the way to the end. And hid the most heinous act of the invaders, in a photo caption.

Hear what they did- and why a similar disgusting act against any other religious place of worship in the city would get front-page coverage - but not for a Ukrainian Catholic congregation.

That would have up-ended the official media narrative, that the perps - who cased the building for a week - were simply down and out folk needing food and are victims of society.

Marty describes going to the church, where he took photos and spoke with the victims. He tells more of their story, the fundraiser the food was intended to be sold at, and the ripple effect on the neighborhood.

26:25 - Don Woodstock returns to assail the media ignoring this serious incident. He says the time has come for newsroom honchos to justify their manipulation of crime stories to minimize criminal behavior.

"Mainstream media have gone numb... (reporters) will tell you they know what's happening but they can't report it."

"If you attack a church which is a corner stone of our democracy... it needs to be thoroughly investigated and should be exposed to the public."

But that would disrupt the narrative.

It would raise questions about criminal rings and fencing operations, homeless camps, and a city increasingly in fear walking out their door at night, while being told the criminals deserve sympathy and it isn't their fault doors and windows get kicked in.

And it also raises questions about Police Chief Danny Smyth, and why he hasn't spoken out against this hate crime, or the threats that churches in Winnipeg face today.

30:26 - Marty closes out the Lesson in Journalism, the final podcast prior to the Manitoba election. Sadly, while the Free Press downplayed a Hate Crime after a Winnipeg Church was targeted, the rest of the media didn't care at all. Not even about the meatballs.

Sept 29 2023- Kinew Has No Clue On Crime, Says Security Expert Don Woodstock29 Sep 202300:43:00

Hear our special guest for Episode 14 give his views on the crime-fighting platforms of the parties in the Manitoba election- and in particular, on the qualifications of Wab Kinew to become Premier.

In a pointed half-hour conversation with Marty Gold, the owner of Jamrock Security, Don Woodstock, says little he heard during the campaign was going to turn the tide against social disorder and street-level thuggery.

On the PC's, he said their proposals were "a step in the right direction" but that Heather Stafanson "stopped short" of the bold commitment needed to remove thieves and muggers from besieged neighborhoods and homeless encampments from our streets and riverbanks.

Woodstock makes the point his company makes money protecting residents and businesses from crime but that he is dedicated to slashing crime rates. "If you do the crime, do the time" has been lost in the judicial process and the result is an often- violent criminal underclass emboldened to do whatever they want- break-ins, retails thefts, and transit muggings.

9.00 In Woodstock's view, the NDP crime platform was empty and hypocritical- and he has harsh words for Wab Kinew.

"Who is it that actually promoted this guy and pushed him forward?"

"If my daughter came home and said Dad I met this man... but he had done all of the things Wab Kinew did I would never invite him to my table to sit down. He cannot come into my house period end of story."

A recap of Kinew's misdeeds, with assaults of spouses and cabbies, speeding tickets, and other people's money - makes it simple for Woodstock.

"Anybody who is going to run for public office, you have to be able to at least pass some mustard test. One of those for me personally has been... when you write and you record a song that calls women whores and bitches and whatever, that there draws a line for me..." said Woodstock, harkening back a decade when Kinew was described as a rapper and poet.

Citing Bob Marley and other artists, Woodstock insists "None of them described women the way Wab Kinew does! Not one of them!"

"Why then don't we believe the victims?" The harassment and abuse Kinew's former spouse Tara Hart endured and his avoidance of restorative justice means, 'you have to find the people you done wrong to... and listen to their story, and then you can start that journey... you can't run away from yourself Wab."

Support local reporting!

paypal.com/paypalme/MartyGoldMedia

16.00 Wab Kinew's proposals are hollow, said Woodstock: "Nobody wants your $300 Wab," pointing to the harsh reality his clients, "union reps too" face when coming home to a shambled house and even finding their pets maimed.

Instead, "Show me a plan that's going to stop people from kicking in people's doors. They know if they get caught they're going to get a slap on the wrists... you can't be defacing people's property and nothing will happen to you so you run amok."

The discussion includes reviewing the visit Woodstock and Marty made to the Waterfront homeless camp this summer, the refusal of public officials to help area business and homeowners deal with the filth and damage. Woodstock also points a finger or two back to Ottawa, Justin Trudeau, and Trudeau and Kinew's federal ally, Jagmeet Singh.

Woodstock, whose company has sponsored the Crime Courts and Public Safety Update for the election period, gives a ringing endorsement for the efforts of Actionline.ca to restore an alternative platform for information and opinion in Winnipeg instead of the Trudeau paid-for narratives in the MSM.

33:52 -  Part 2 - Marty has a preview of our upcoming story about a Winnipeg church.

Sept 26 2023 Two-Tiered Media Ignores Election Intimidation, Pumps NDP 27 Sep 202300:54:20

In Episode 13, we explore the subtle and not-so-subtle ways the Winnipeg media slants headlines and ignores election news inconvenient to their biased election narrative.

And as Marty Gold explains, the cult of celebrity that surrounds Wab Kinew and other NDP champions of 'antiracism' within the media is a root cause behind election reporting that falls far short of serving the public good.

This explains how Global did a profile of Kinew without mentioning a syllable about Kinew's assault of a cab driver or the similar charges involving a spouse. It explains why the Leaders debates were also absent of such questions- and the media hasn't asked his victims what they think of his suitability to become Premier. The cult worship extends to the media still not reporting that Nahanni Fontaine had an undisclosed name change - and promoted a boycott of white-owned businesses. And, still not reporting that an NDP candidate tried to intimidate her Liberal opponent in Southdale.

Hear why, when compared to the current rules for a Preliminary Disclosure Order, Kinew's proposed 'Unexplained Wealth' law is a Charter challenge waiting to happen.

18:34 - Kinew has made wild promises about tackling crime and health care. They reflect he'll say anything to get elected and his caucus are happy to go along with it.

Hear why Shannon Sampert told CJOB "There's no way he'll be able to keep any of them." She had her own dealings with Kinew, when his 2019 election strategy included boycotting two women journalists.

Can you change without making amends? Kinew has convinced his women candidates it doesn't matter.

Your support is needed now - no Trudough flows to this platform- help us via paypal.com/paypalme/MartyGoldMedia

25:42 Part 2 - A study in media bias - Marty tells how he got the story of another grandstanding play by MMIW protesters, who posted online of their misdeeds defacing the Tuxedo constituency office of Premier Stefanson. The mainstream media didn't report the story for hours. And in the case of CJOB radio the evening TV newscasts, NOT AT ALL.

Why would the media not tell voters that the activists Wab Kinew supports vandalized the Premier's office on Grant Avenue? Why would they not ask him to denounce the mob intimidation during an election?

While the incident involved the same individuals who've been in the news for their destructive and race-baiting antics at Brady landfill and police headquarters, none of the news outlets reported those details The Sun even blamed Stefanson for provoking the attack because she refuses to commit $184M towards a landfill search for bodies. You can be sure they'd never say that if it was Wab Kinew's office smeared with paint by activists.

Marty gives more example of the story selection and manipulation of headlines by MSM to influence voters in their favoured, intersectional direction.

Listen to the comments of our listeners about their shock at the photos of the incident- they see a pattern of two-tiered justice and two-tier reporting that started with the destruction of statues at the Legislature, and has continued as *certain* causes and naratives get favoured in the media, while Chief Smyth refuses to enforce the law, lest Nahanni Fontaine and other Marxist heros call him 'racist', again.

Sept 24 2023 - Ouellette Run for Libs Rattles NDP Candidate in Southdale24 Sep 202300:40:43

Our latest election interview covers lots of ground, from issues being heard on the doorstep in Southdale to another candidate picking an issue with our guest!

Robert-Falcon Ouellette has always been an articulate and engaging guest with TGCTS and our City Circus Shaw TV series. His career includes two Top-4 finishes in Winnipeg Mayoral elections, sandwiching a busy term as an inner-city Liberal MP.

Now he's trying to come up the middle in a swing suburban riding between Health Minister Audrey Gordon and an NDP staffer running with an alleged chip on her shoulder that you'll want to hear about.

Liberal seats in the last House were held by Lamont, Dr. Jon Gerrard and Cindy Lamoureux, and Ouellette thinks if they succeed and are joined by another member like him to attain Party status, it could make a big difference in the Legislature.

You can sponsor podcasts /donate by email/or send along story tips: Email martygoldlive@gmail.com

8:04 -  RFO talks about health care, and has logical insights into voters being incredulous towards NDP leader Wab Kinew's promise to get 3 ER's up and running without having staffing and training solutions; at the same time, he says, there's a lot of dissatisfaction with the PC government, and with the incumbent MLA's work as Health Minister.

13.40 - Hear about the ripple effects of addictions, crime and homelessness on Windsor Park - with an unbelievable number of houses on one street hit by break-ins! He casts a critical eye at EndHomelessness Winnipeg missing its target. One of the results: "It's not normal to live in a Canadian city where you refuse to go downtown because you're afraid."

He calls for better medical and mental health services including providing structured day-to-day activities for the patients-and mentions a favorite subject of rail relocation!

19.00 - RFO brings up NDP candidates living far outside their ridings and our report What's In A Name? Ask Nahanni Fontaine.

"I think it's great to go to these protests but sometimes it's about doing those (helping residents) things really well, " calling it "the basic work" of an elected public servant.

20.50- Hear RFO's opinion about Wab Kinew's avoidance of restorative justice for his past altercations. Ouellette goes against the progressive radical image of FN politicians.

"Institutions are actually what keeps society together! ... you ignore them to your detriment" citing Winnipeg religious institutions "doing the hard work" of feeding and sheltering the indigent, but not getting support from Christian-bashers like Fontaine. "Anger doesn't get you very far."

22.20 - RFO describes how Renee Cable interrupted her NDP canvassing to confront Ouellette:

"Why are you running here? You're going to be splitting the vote."

"She said I should have called her to talk to her before I ran as if I need to request her permission to put forward different ideas."

He told Cable, "It seems like my very existence is disturbing to you" - and shaking with anger, she started to make it personal about RFO's kids.

He says that in the NDP, some people believe they are owed something. He addresses the bigger issues about intimidation and partisan politics in Manitoba- "are we allowed to say anything we want?"

In RFO's view, "The big parties aren't very creative with their policies, they don't work very hard and they've repeated a lot of the same mistakes" and "people voting in fear" need Liberal MLAs to provide balance. He cites a lot of factors that are driving down voter turnout and hurt the health of our democracy.

33:07- Marty Gold previews upcoming episodes, including a tip about a bureaucratic cause of ER overcrowding, and a series on inner-city housing, the homeless, and political failures.

Sept 21 2023- What's In A Name? Ask Nahanni Fontaine.22 Sep 202300:59:20

ActionLine.ca

Do voters have a right to know who their candidates were, as well as who they are, before they cast their ballots on October 3?

The question of identity politics in Manitoba is again the topic- in Episode 11, we ask why some candidates get put under the microscope but others get a free ride from the MSM.

Part 1 - Kirkfield Park is a constituency where two opposing candidates have undergone various changes to their personal lives, and how they represent who they are.

NDP candidate Logan Oxenham has changed their gender, took hormones, and changed their name to adopt a male persona. No one is allowed to question their decisions or their motives.

Meanwhile, PC incumbent Kevin Klein declared an affinity with his mother's mixed-blood Ontario heritage, and was pilloried by the media and far-left activists like Oxenham who falsely claimed Klein's 'Metis' label had to meet the approval of the MMF- which we have already explained is utter nonsense.

A CBC "investigation" discovered Klein had changed his name in the 1990's - long before he entered politics.

Critics asserted he should have disclosed that before running for the Legislature. But as Marty Gold reveals, the media has failed to report that Klein isn't the only MLA who can be questioned by voters about their name and identity.

What's in a name? Ask Nahanni Fontaine.

14:05 Part 2- Going door-to-door to solicit support for her re-election in St. Johns, Nahanni Fontaine was "really concerned" to see hundreds of signs for the upstart independent, Patrick Allard.

The explanation her assistant voiced sheds light on why she's been forced to hit the hustings and risk being seen in the riding by voters. Her attacks on Allard, a contractor, from her pricy Lindenwoods home backfired with voters who noticed she didn't even bother to rent a local campaign space and contribute to the local economy, which Allard does every day.

Hear what she's been told at the doorstep, the questions she won't answer about Wab Kinew, and the total neglect one resident gets when they email their 2-term MLA asking for help.

Self-interest has always been paramount in building her identity as a role model who always 'follows the rules' and works hard for aboriginals and the little people. Especially, when she didn't.

Hear how she rang up the taxpayers tab when she ignored a court fine as Justice critic. The First Nations leaders and organizations Nahanni Fontaine protected when she was "aboriginal women's advisor", and how it connected to Wab Kinew; A year later, Gordon Sinclair wrote about her manipulations to protect Kinew from domestic assault allegations: Indigenous MLA's attempt at damage control too little, too late

Fontaine once claimed Winnipeg police were rapists right in front of Chief Ewatski at a public forum. An eyewitness wrote:

"Like Wab Kinew, she has been elevated to positions of influence by power brokers... who have protected their starlets despite reckless and irresponsible behaviour past and present."

Listen to her history as a Marxist academic/activist who told Australia "it’s the children that is our motivation", yet called for a boycott of white businesses and continued to make racist anti-white comments as an MLA, smearing white doctors and nurses.

And, voters still remember her bashing Christians - the MSM doesn't report on that, or...

41:52 Part 3 - The argument was raised that Kevin Klein wasn't always a "Klein" and wasn't always 'Elvis'. Critics insinuated he had something to hide. But, his name change and Oxenham's now pop up on a Google search. Whose doesn't?

It turns out that Nahani wasn't always 'Nahanni' and she wasn't always "Fontaine" either.

Did the media ever mention her name change? Not that we could find. It was a surprise to 2 senior MLA's when we first asked them about it- in 2016.

Marty describes their reactions, and raises a few more questions.

Aug 22 2024- After 8 RMs Reject Metro Plan, Kinew Offers Exit Plan 22 Aug 202400:49:14

We start out Episode 17 with a view from outside the Perimeter Highway about how Plan20-50 generated unprecedented grassroots pushback.

As described by a Portage La Prairie outlet: "Kinew says this is a hot topic" & "Winnipeg Metro Region has taken the heat."

You'll hear a rundown of what led the NDP Premier to don the mantle of freedom fighter, and defend local democracy at the expense of WMR over-reachers.

"(For RM's) who don’t think this is the right fit for them or for their citizens, they are going to have the freedom to leave" under legislation Kinew promised for the next session.

Is Kinew the first socialist to ever decide to "move away from that centralization that you saw in the past..." ?

Here's our background coverage:

https://winnipegsun.com/opinion/columnists/gold-winnipeg-must-let-the-people-decide-on-plan20-50

https://actionline.ca/2024/08/aug-9-2024-metro-fumbles-plan20-50-public-hearing-forced-to-retreat/

https://actionline.ca/2024/08/aug-15-2024-media-misinformation-masks-metros-plan20-50-mess/

https://actionline.ca/2024/08/aug-16-2024-and-dunnator-makes-6-as-rms-pan-metro-plan20-50/

4.45 Part 1- Another view from outside the Perimeter came from the Mayor of Ritchot, who got some things right but other things wrong.

He rightly criticized a WMR gag order on board directors. He preached for "collaboration" among the members but never came near addressing if he agreed with the Gillingham veto- the crux of the dispute.

Chris Ewan did admit, "it is now critical to answer the questions of community members when a change that will affect over a million people is about to happen.”

Marty details two more RMs that, unnoticed by TV and radio newsrooms, opposed the planning blueprint by voting against it at first reading. The RM of Tache, and the RM of West St. Paul, would make 8 RM's that rejected the Plan and half objected to being forced into Metro membership.

Ewan calling the plan 'flawed from the beginning' makes it 9 member RMs who wouldn't vote for it- 50% of the membership.

Kinew outright said it was "a planning region that isn’t working." But as Marty explains, ultimately the WRM bungled public consultations, hid behind word-salad documentation, and showed a patronizing attitude that created a storm across Southern Manitoba.

  • Donate to the Season 5 Funding Drive at this link so our investigations can continue!

22.30 Part 2- Did you know that former Mayor Brian Bowman ensured that city council voted on the draft of Plan20-50 in 2021? He also wanted council to "have the opportunity to vote in chambers like this on the final plan before the Provincial Government finalizes it".

We review the comments from Bowman, Coun. Janice Lukes and then-Coun. Gillingham. Guess which council member expressed concern that the WMR is an "unelected body"?

Marty questions, if elected officials in Winnipeg and in St. Clements cannot even agree what the board status is, how was a plan brought forward?

Listen to why Mayor Gillingham has to explain where he stands on having veto power in any future planning blueprint, and how he will add some democracy to the process.

29.45- Discontent with the $18,000 tab for Metro dues was on the table at a Springfield council meeting in January.

You'll hear the scepticism and value for dollar questions, whether they were kept in the loop by the Mayor, and if they needed to do more to create awareness of the plan. His response?

"They trust their governments, I guess, that’s all I can say."

In Winnipeg, there's a few good reasons why Mayor Gillingham and council need to earn that trust before sinking more tax dollars into the WMR.

37.45 Part 3- A crime and public safety update, following up on the recent Sun columns.

We tell about three more convenience stores said to be closing by month's end; a west end murder in broad daylight; and the terror bomb threat sent to over 100 Jewish institutions in Canada yesterday. Somehow the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg didn't warrant being threatened.

Sept 19 2023- Stefanson’s Mining Policies “A Good First Step”, Says Mihychuk 20 Sep 202300:25:22

www.Actionline.ca

Since 2004, followers of TGCTS on radio and online have heard the views of MaryAnn Mihychuk, a well-traveled geologist and consultant who is a former member of the Doer cabinet in Manitoba and the Justin Trudeau cabinet in Ottawa. She’s now serving as President of the Manitoba Prospectors and Developers Association (MPDA).

With the Manitoba election heading for the clubhouse turn, Marty Gold again hosts an animated discussion with MaryAnn Mihychuk about her industry, our economy, and the need for sensible policy.

Hear about where we are in the mining cycle, Manitoba's potential as a critical mineral producer compared with Ontario, Quebec and BC, and why royalties are not where the provincial treasury will make money- it’s from the skilled jobs and economic spin-offs created that will “make Manitoba prosperous once again.”

What does the Manitoba government need to do to attract maximum investment in our mining sector as jurisdictions compete to attract qualified players? Start with opening the Mining Act, suggests Mihychuk.  While election pronouncements are broad strokes, Mihychuk said, “You’ve got to give credit to Heather Stefanson, she’s made some changes and we’ve moved from 37th place to 15…”

“… if the leadership of a jurisdiction say nothing, or say something negative, that will hurt the financial community. Premier Stefanson has come out strongly in favour of mineral resource development and exploration, so kudos to her, that’s a good first step.”

The role of First Nations as a source of resource workers and project management, the impact of climate change and of the United Nations UNDRIP plan, are all address by Mihychuk in this 18 minute interview.

Sept 19 2023- Murder Victims Pile Up As Councilors Stay Silent 19 Sep 202300:41:48

Episode 9 features the return of the Crime Courts and Public Safety update! It's overdue after being squeezed out by election news and our exclusive discussion with Andrew Marquess about beating City Hall in court- but with 5 murders piled up and some near-misses to reconstruct we get right down to business!

Part 1 starts out with a review of our unique election content and interviews available at ActionLine.ca, and coming up - we've heard about some ridings being back in play. It seems the MSM has dialed back the 'doomed to lose' narrative about the Manitoba Conservatives.

What are the possible reasons for the NDP to reconsider being connected to union honchos policing "parental rights of their own members? Voices on the ground, many usually sympathetic to the Orange, are warning of the rebound against Wab Kinew's stance on a landfill search- and of him calling people opposed to our schools keeping secrets from parents "divisive."

Marty Gold then explains how the election campaign itself, is now part of the crime report. Vandalism of signs numbers in the thousands, in high-stakes ridings. A very low form of intimidation.

* Will you help us expand our local reporting? We accept donations via  paypal.com/paypalme/MartyGoldMedia

19.00 - The Crime Courts and Public Safety Update is sponsored by JamRock Security

The opening act this summer was a city-wide theft spree by 2 accused, fencing off high-priced eyewear. And now topping the bill - FIVE Murders in a row, by gunshot.

Marty describes the criminal background of some of the accused, which seems to directly confirm what PC candidate Rejeanne Caron told us. Released on 'conditions' that are totally ignored, repeat offenders are let free under amendments to the Criminal Code made by the Trudeau government with federal NDP support. Who are the judges that released these pathological criminals who go on to ruthlessly kill? The media never tells us.

And the body count could easily have exceeded a half-dozen, what with an unexploded IED discovered in the suite of one of the deceased. Who was the bomb for?

TGCTS connects the locations street by street with their wards, and then with the councilors. How do these murders affect the surrounding neighbors? None of the councilors seem to ask.

31:10 - Two other violent assaults almost added to the body count. One was a 4 AM shooting in South Point Douglas (with a ghost gun) where a half-dozen court prohibitions proved useless. The other incident, in St. Boniface, was even more disturbing, as 3 teens were jumped walking to their car at 3 AM this weekend by a gang of 4 thugs, who remorselessly slashed and stabbed the victims.

You'll wonder why St. B Councilor Matt Allard didn't immediately reassure the public, considering where they were jumped: Allard's highly-touted tourist destination at Tache and Provencher.

Maybe he was busy trying to figure out how to spin the stalled Provencher bike lane plan as a public safety measure.

Lastly, a listener took note of an essay by Police Chief Danny Smyth about downtown safety, and said that while Smyth points to New York tamping down crime years ago, Smyth doesn't comprehend the basic policing that underpinned that success. Instead, we get our own version of Gotham City.

Sept 18 2023 - PC’s Rejeanne Caron Aims To Unseat NDP Leader  17 Sep 202300:22:51

https://actionline.ca

Long-time Winnipeg police officer Rejeanne Caron has become a key candidate for the Progressive Conservatives in the party’s effort to retain government on October 3.

Still on patrol in Fort Rouge, Caron responds to violent crime, property offences, sexual assaults and other calls on-shift, and then campaigns to upset NDP leader Wab Kinew, and deny him a seat representing the constituency in the Manitoba Legislature.

In our newest candidate interview, her background as a Metis wife raising 3 kids is discussed, as is her being featured in Tory ads directly targeting Kinew on crime, and an NDP caucus that’s advocated for defunding police.

Caron said that at the doorstep, voters tell her “Crime is a massive issue. And affordability.” She blames both on “the NDP-Liberal coalition in Ottawa”, decrying bail condition amendments that resulted in the mandatory release of “violent repeat offenders that are now on the streets when they should be in custody.” This leads to a short discussion of how the PC’s want to bring forward help for seniors.

Her background in law enforcement has included front line 911 response, Intelligence investigations, and as the Downtown Safety Coordinator. Caron contrasts her experiences as an indigenous woman and mother working in and supporting public safety, with the personal history of Kinew and his unresolved misdeeds, saying she is giving Fort Rouge voters an option at the ballot box.

Part 2 - 16:48 - Marty Gold wraps up Episode 8 with a look to upcoming Manitoba election episodes – including a special interview about resource development and opportunities. Give a listen to his pitch for your support as we enter the home stretch of the 2023 Manitoba election!

Sept 16 2023- EXCLUSIVE: Marquess Says City Misconduct Chilling Investors 16 Sep 202300:38:38

In the third part of our exclusive series, Parker Lands developer Andrew Marquess paints a bleak picture for taxpayers and investors because of the financial risks in dealing with Winnipeg City Hall.

The internet lit up with news about a $5M court ruling that the City administration deliberately obstructed his 1900 unit housing project for years and lied to his face. He's incurred millions in legal fees, costs and losses, but in the big picture, his concern is that anyone can be a victim- and taxpayers will pay the price.

5:48 - Hear Andrew Marquess of Gem Equities warn about dealing with the City of Winnipeg: “you will have a government that can intentionally target a developer on a political whim. That will have a chilling effect (on investment) to some extent.”

“It's not about me, it’s not about what happened, but can we go thru this again and again and again? When you talk governance, you’ve got to ask." Marquess noted that a prior integrity investigation did not have access to the records that - in a King's Bench trial - proved misfeasance by two City planners.

The discussion with Marquess in Episode 7 explores the consequences of what happens when a government loses investor confidence: “Look at the growth of all these neighboring municipalities, at the expense of the City (already)… what kind of opportunities are we losing?"

As he explains, "developers have to think about regulatory risk and market risk but the one thing that’s always been taken as a given in a country like Canada, is that your regulatory risk is never a problem, governance is never a problem here.” Except now, at 510 Main Street.

He describes that Winnipeg has seen “a flood of money because we have rules and regulations" which might now go elsewhere because of his experience.

In the face of a further potential $90M liability for expropriation costs, there's talk about City Hall governance - and whether the next provincial government needs to grab the corruption at City Hall by the horns.

Marty asks, "Why do the people at 510 Main Street think that they’re above the courts?" Listen to Marquess explain the previous contempt ruling citing Councilors Orlikow, Rollins and Gilroy, who were responsible for “not a dime” of the legal costs and expenses.

“I think the bigger question, the governance policy- are there any rules in there that would guide behavior or protect the public from decisions (such as contempt and misfeasance) in the future?" Marquess asked, predicting “There is nothing.”

Sept 14 2023- What Woke Parents Have Wrong About Other Parents' Rights15 Sep 202300:56:55

With the PC platform roll-out resembling tactical chess and the Manitoba NDP's coming across as playing checkers, the aspirations of the opposition increasingly rely on doorstep conversions in discussions with voters.

An unexpected addition to the kitchen table conversations during the campaign is the volatile issue of "parental rights".

Amplified by heated dismissals of cautious traditional approaches to sexuality lessons as "anti-LGBTQ" and clouded with confusing terminology around gender, sex, biology and identity, the rising debate about education policy pitches parents against parents.

Your support is needed now to expand our local reporting and election coverage- help us via paypal.com/paypalme/MartyGoldMedia

With the 1 Million March 4 Children coming up across the country on Sept. 20 - including Winnipeg - there are going to be divisive headlines smearing demonstrations as "far-right hate." A CBC "expert" claimed: "the politicization of the rights of gender diverse youth in that safe space and the "kind of moral panic" surrounding legislative decisions is "extremely dangerous and is in itself a form of bullying."

Don't be fooled by the media.

10:05 - Part 2 As Marty Gold explains, parents in Manitoba see what's happening in Ontario- where woke educator gatekeepers judge historic literature through their DEI lens.

That's how Anne Frank's diary, Harry Potter, and other classics got junked by Peel District school board librarians- but novels with graphic sex are alloted plenty of shelf space. Parents went up the ladder seeking accountability and got stonewalled.

As Lorrie Goldstein warns, "Don't be deceived by claims 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' was tossed from libraries in Peel schools due to a misunderstanding. The book has long been a target of 'woke' educators."

In New Brunswick and Saskatchewan parents must provide consent for a transgender/non-binary child under 16 to use a different name and pronouns at school.

The Tory election promise to empower Manitoba parents has resonance for some. For others, "a sign that says 'Fighting for parental rights' is actually a less-cruel-sounding way of saying 'fighting against human rights for certain people."

A passionate ally of Pride and trans issues cited that quote in an online discussion; that opened a window into the mindset of 'woke' parents (and by extension teachers, administrators and school boards).

Which human right do they say they're protecting when they oppose 'parental rights'?

"The right to privacy"

Episode 6 asks - Do kids have a "privacy right" in school? A right to change their pronouns or gender identity without informing parents?

The argument was, keeping what is taught and encouraged at school a secret is justifiable - because "many parents don't have access to their children because they will harm them."

Marty does some math on that wild exaggeration - and analyzes what wokethinkers believe the parental rights of those "giving birth" and raising a toddler does NOT include. The opposing view:

"Until a child is 18 their parents have a right to know what is going on in their lives. That’s irrefutable. It should be law. #mbpoli"

33:30 - Part 3: We look at the school books and resources at the root of the conflict.

Graphic novels, fiction, how-to books like a 'queer' version of Little Red Riding Hood for 4 year olds- Marty walks through explicit examples of photos, drawings and lessons. Is expressing worries about schools guiding minors to kinks, porn, and "sexy adventures" an attack on 'rights'?

Hear our analysis of the battle between parents who want school boards and politicians to "Let Kids Be Kids" facing activists who think that children are 'threatened' by parents wanting the Criminal Code enforced. **********

Sept 11 2023- Kevin Klein Confronts MSM Smear Campaign 11 Sep 202300:42:06

Identity politics continues to feed divisive headlines that legacy media newsrooms churn out with no shame. In Episode 5 of Season 3, we ask - Is Fake News being used to legitimize evaluating political candidates based on their blood quantums?

You'll hear how one of those abhorrent narratives, used to pillory a PC incumbent, was granted the aura of 'fact' by biased Winnipeg newsrooms - but when put under the microscope, fails the test of truth.

7:06 - Kevin Klein, PC candidate in Kirkfield Park, joins Marty Gold to explain why he's taking action against CBC Manitoba.

The race-obsessed CBC reported about his family heritage in Ontario and alleged that he has falsely claimed Metis bloodlines.

Now, Klein is promising to go beyond mere corrections and apologies - because the smear campaign has affected his family directly.

Sometimes it's not what's in the story, it's what was left out of the story, that tells the tale, Klein explains.

"The family tree that we have is not the one they published... what would make the media happy? Am I supposed to disown my family?"

That's just part of what shifts the media reports outside of the realm of legitimate public interest journalism - and it's being used instead as the foundation of a smear campaign.

Your support is needed now to expand our local reporting and election coverage- help us via paypal.com/paypalme/MartyGoldMedia

This weekend, a newspaper columnist hopped on the bandwagon, telling a personal story of taking her young children to get their MMF cards and her family history and particularly of how the ancient governments "robbed Metis children" - presumably including hers in the present day- "of their inheritance".

After 5 paragraphs, "Metis heritage always comes down to community" suddenly veers into Kevin Klein.

Assailed for his "lack of education about Indigenous people in our province", the columnist said when "Klein asserts he is Metis" is it "hurtful and confusing".

So confusing to her, in fact, that Rebecca Chambers concluded that Klein is "claiming to be us" to bolster his political ambitions. But that is Fake News.

Last month we asked Is This What Louis Riel Would Say About Kevin Klein? He certainly wouldn't say what Rebecca Chambers did in the Free Press.

As you'll hear him confirm, his mother's bloodline has no link to the Red River Metis and Klein never said it did. And this issue has nothing to do with requiring any approval from the MMF.

This is a far-ranging discussion with Klein about the role of mainstream media in elections, and ends with a stark reminder of the ripple effects of Identity Politics on family members and relationships.

"It's a hunt to take me down... This is just political spin, enough is enough is enough. We're elected to do a job, not to create political division."

Marty Gold talks with Khan about his background in the CFL, in business and with public safety, and about his stint as a Cabinet minister in the Stefanson administration.

"I'm a community guy, bringing people together".

At the door, he says the themes are consistent around the province- affordability and growing the economy to pay for a long-decaying health care system.

He touches on some of the Progressive Conservative campaign promises for seniors and to take on criminal violence.

"We are actively working to reduce crime in the city,' Khan insists, and a re-elected PC government would continue to demand reforms to toughen bail conditions for repeat offenders. Sept 8 2023 - City Expropriation Fiasco: Marquess May Get $90M08 Sep 202300:34:20

TGCTS presents Part 2 of our exclusive interview with Andrew Marquess, the victim of a City Hall plot to hamstring his development plan for 1900 housing units.

“They lied to you.”

“Repeatedly.”

“That’s not acceptable…”

“It is, at City Hall.”

Hear Marty Gold continue this conversation with the man who has already been awarded $5M after bureaucrats committed misfeasance. That’s before a hearing to determine the value of his land that the City perhaps unwisely chose to claim for a retention pond aside his planned Fulton Grove neighborhood in Fort Garry.

(Part 1 of our sit-down with Andrew Marquess of Gem Equities can be heard here.)

Marquess walks Marty thru the math of the Parker Lands valuations, which sounds bad to start with and then gets way worse when the City is also on the hook for the federal tax bill. Winnipeg residents need to hear just how expensive the way the City administration and council do business can become- for their wallets.

On a personal level, Marquess has taken on significant risk and investment in a labour of love on his part, but encountered what comes across a labour of hate by the City.

”They’re treating the public like a piggy bank - including you!”

“That’s correct”

“How do we put a stop to that?”

Marquess has a lot to say in response to Marty’s question, about the tax money wasted to pay lawyers- with more fees to do the appeal – that could have gone to needed services.

We need your support to expand our local reportingpaypal.com/paypalme/MartyGoldMedia

We talk about Civic risk management, whether they tried stalling and dirty tricks to try to force Marquess to drop his fight for a fair application process, the role of Coun. John Orlikow, and the provocative comments of Coun. Ross Eadie about a formal complaint against Orlikow being laid.

Coming Up: Part 3 with Andrew Marquess & the bigger picture for Winnipeg.

What does it mean to investors who see what has happened to Gem Equities?

Do they see dealing with 510 Main Street a risk not worth taking?

What does this mean for investor confidence in our economy and for our tax base?

Marty explains why supporting those willing to seek help is paramount to restoring safe communities. Sept 4 2023- EXCLUSIVE: Andrew Marquess Tells His Story05 Sep 202300:27:37

Welcome to the kick-off episode for Season 3, which coincides with the launch of ActionLine.ca, the new home for public affairs in Winnipeg.

You'll hear all about it before our exclusive interview with Andrew Marquess of Gem Equities, the businessman at the centre of the biggest news story of the summer.

We covered the Marquess case extensively on July 19 2023 - There's 101 Reasons Why Winnipeg Council Must Review Orlikow's Role In $5M Court Ruling

It is a big deal - beyond the millions at risk - because of what the Court found had gone on at City Hall:

“Of particular concern is that on a few occasions concerns were raised by individuals in the public service about conduct that was deemed inappropriate, and notwithstanding that, the conduct of some parties continued.

The evidence is also clear, in my view, that the impetus and motivation for this deliberate interference with the plaintiffs’ applications were primarily the wishes and demands of the area councillor, and the desire of some public servants to accommodate those wishes.”

You can read the court decision here

https://www.manitobacourts.mb.ca/site/assets/files/1042/6165347_manitoba_inc__et_al__v__the_city_of_winnipeg_et_al__2023_mbkb_114.pdf

In Part 1 of a 3-part interview, Marty Gold asks Andrew Marquess to discuss what King's Bench Justice Shauna McCarthy read, saw and heard, and what wasn't believed.

"It's not really about me, but generally the public doesn't think that City Hall is going to be fighting against them, trying to intentionally harm them."

Hear what the first clues were for the developer that he was getting 'special treatment' that rose to the level of misfeasance in public office and why the Court rejected alibis about why the 1900-unit Fulton Grove neighborhood build was slow-walked and stalled to affect the value of the Parker Lands,

Marquess tells about a meeting Orlikow participated in, the denial of City intentions to grab up to 25% of his land, and the attempts of an honest city planner to get the project moving being stymied.

Chip in now to support local reporting paypal.com/paypalme/MartyGoldMedia

13:11 - The Marquess interview resumes with Marty Gold honing in on the behind-the-scenes actions of the bureaucrats the Court found liable for causing financial harm to Gem Equities, and Orlikow's role.

The Court found they tried to tamp down possible City expropriation costs by inventing limitations on what the developer could build - not a legitimate Planning Dept. consideration- and TGCTS reports that it's about to backfire at yet another hearing.

Andrew Marquess also responds to the criticism of him being a "private sector capitalist" from our podcast on July 26, Coun. Eadie Defends Orlikow After Integrity Commissioner Asked To Investigate

"I'm the bad guy for exposing something that's going on at City Hall."

(Note: This interview was taped prior to the City filing an appeal; we expect further comment from Marquess later this week)

25:31 - Marty wraps up the episode and previews Part 2 of our exclusive: If you think $5M is a lot of money, you won't believe how bad the City could get hammered at an upcoming hearing for the Parker Lands retention pond expropriation.

For taxpayers, Part 2 and then Part 3 of the Andrew Marquess interview will be a can't-miss lesson in how unfair and illlegal practices has led developers and financers to look to Calgary and other municipalities to build - and how it makes life more expensive for you.

Aug 16 2024- And Dunnator Makes 6, As RMs Pan Metro Plan20-50 17 Aug 202400:46:56

Friday morning started with our Winnipeg Sun report about the wheels falling off of the Plan 2050 bus. RMs ask province to let them out of Manitoba’s Metro Plan20-50

We have additional details in Episode 16 about why the rural municipalities of Headingley, Niverville, and St. Andrews- and then 2 more - joined Selkirk in pronouncing the document substandard and the take-it-but-you-can't-leave-it organizational structure unacceptable.

The outpouring of opposition followed the WMR having to reschedule a vital public hearing when a reported 650 concerned citizens arrived in Niverville as discussed in Episode 14.

8.30- Among the issues raised by the RMs:

  • The forced membership in the WMR was undemocratic,
  • The weighted voting rules giving Winnipeg a veto even more undemocratic,
  • Vesting the Metro board with final say on local land-use decisions and the power of expropriation was unthinkably undemocratic.

Headingley warned: "the plan is being advanced without comprehensive background studies in crucial areas."

Selkirk CAO Duane Nicol said "we're seeing the disconnect between the decisions being made and the actual on-the-ground lived experience of the communities and the residents that have to live with these decisions."

Friday afternoon, East St. Paul issued a statement relaying "this Bill effectively strips elected local governments of their autonomy, placing final municipal decisions in the hands of unelected Provincial Government appointees."

With evidence mounting that Plan20-50 is dysfunctional, it's been almost like a make-work project for the planners. And under their plan, Scott Gillingham - who supports the plan and claimed detractors had "misconceptions"- is the kingmaker of the Capital Region.

13.00 - The plan opens the door to things being put in later by an unelected board. When it suits them, the WMR calls Plan20-50 a "guide." That's deceptive- because it's a blueprint, with no deviations permitted.

20.30 And then there were 6! Only TGCTS found that the Village of Dunnator had put out a statement abandoning the plan on Wednesday.

The Winnipeg media ignored the controversy of Plan20-50 until Marty's column at this link.

23.33 PART 2 - In contrast to the dissidents, the RM of St. Clements declared unquestioned loyalty to the WMR.

You'll hear just a few of their official responses about "media coverage", "public debate" and "body oversight" that seem disconnected from reality, especially the claim that "the Winnipeg Metropolitan Region (WMR) is not an unelected body controlling local decisions. Local councils retain their authority."

There is no mention made of the 4 unelected provincial appointees, or of the Gillingham veto, or the power to expropriate RM property.

36.00- Marty gives a good example of why Dunnator would want no part of the WMR having control of the beach at Matlock.

The Metro disinformation campaign is laid bare by this statement:

"These FAQs are provided as information for residents of St. Clements, on how Plan20-50 impacts the community. Everyone is encouraged to read the plan."

However, Metro executive director Jennifer Freeman has conceded, “a planning document like a regional planning bylaw can be hard to read when it's not your field.”

"Read the plan"? Now, that's a scam. You still won't get it, so your questions are just misconceptions and you're confused. Just like those 6 RM councils. That's how planners have rigged the process. Welcome to Winnipeg.

July 21 2023- Crime From Homeless Camps Overwhelms Point Douglas01 Sep 202300:39:10

The Manitoba election race is being shaped by the political response to the increasing danger being faced by the public from crime and public disorder.

Episode 38 kicks off with Marty Gold noting it took over 6 weeks for the Free Press to catch up to TGCTS coverage about the shocking "number, severity of crimes committed by Winnipeg youth."

In the article, community activist Mitch Bourbonniere pointed to a new underlying 'root cause' of the explosion in under-18 violence. What role did the Freep play in it? They don't get off the hook so easily.

Mitch explains why "better intelligence gathering and information sharing" is needed among "stakeholders identifying who is at risk and who needs support". There's another factor the newspaper is reluctant to touch on that you'll hear about as well.

Surprise story of the week gets a mention next: Muslim community seeks hate crime investigation into Olive Garden stabbing . In this case, the stabbing victim was a teenager. As we reported, the perp was an infamous arsonist with deep mental illness and should never have left custody.

The media narrative continues to pump the "heartless" refusal of the PC government to cave into demands by grieving families of two homeless women. They want a $184M dig into a landfill to search for the remains. The media insists the government is overstating the dangers:

Justice Minister Kelvin Goertzen: “The provincial government... has to consider what the risk is for the families and those who might be doing a search on an industrial landfill site.”

Premier Heather Stefanson: “Asbestos and other toxic chemicals and so on and so we made what was a very difficult decision... I have to protect all Manitobans throughout this including those that would be asked to go into those landfills.”

How valid is their position? An expert who is a loyal listener says, VERY.

They describe the serious dangers for searchers and explain the catastrophic long-lasting consequences that the media ignores.

23.50 Part 2 - The two women believed to be in the Prairie Green landfill were homeless. Would new government spending on housing prevent more deaths? Hear about PC promises to quickly repair public housing and pay $150,000 per new unit to developers. Landlords will also get rent topped up to market rates to take in the homeless.

The Tories want to get this rolling during the election campaign- but we review some rules in the fine print that may scare investors off.

But as Marty explains, there's a limit to the effectiveness of the 'housing first' planning. Some of Winnipeg's homeless are settled into riverbank encampments in North and South Point Douglas and aren't inclined to move indoors with responsibilities or following rules.

Those camps are the source of serious crime occuring east of Main Street up to Portage Avenue.

As one headline read: ‘We feel completely abandoned’: downtown restaurateur fed up with repeated property crimes."

He's not the only one feeling abandoned. We got a statement from the frustrated longtime residents:

"We are at our safety and wit's end and need something done to clear out the encampments in our neighbourhood today"

Hear the details no one else will report about the crime and pollution they face from the camps. We challenge the refusal of elected officials and social service agencies to get rid of the Pt. Douglas encampments, leaving property and business owners to fend for themselves to deal with theft, violence- and murder.

The list of "Suggestions made by politicians" the residents provide will shock listeners. It illustrates how desperate area councilor Vivian Santos and NDP MLA Bernadette Smith are to favour the "rights" of offenders over protecting the public.

Aug 31 2023 - Flip Flop Wab Has An ER Epiphany31 Aug 202300:34:11

"He was against it, before he was for it.''

The baffling policy waffling of the Manitoba NDP took another surprise turn with a promise to re-open 3 suburban hospital emergency rooms. It's as if they thought no one would remember that their own previous regime had set in motion the shuttering of the ERs so services could be consolidated.

In Episode 52 of Season 2, we explain how Wab Kinew added to his $1B a week election promise with a doozy that no one was buying for a very good reason that the MSM picked up on immediately:

"Opposition Leader Wab Kinew previously said he would not consider backtracking on closures that began in 2017."

How many flip-flops can one campaign put forward with a straight face, has become a popular question online. Marty Gold walks through the NDP promises, the sceptical observations, and whether "The flip flopping must be as a result of horrific internal numbers."

* To sponsor podcasts /donate by email/ story tips: Email martygoldlive@gmail.com

Take a tour through a WFP column that asserted Kinew's pre-writ platform was "based on informed theories". If, as Dan Lett believes, "the PCs and the Liberals have largely been caught off guard by the New Democrat policy blitzkrieg", it's because they can't stop laughing as the modern-day NDP bewilders voters with their buffet of spending commitments while alienating the old guard they need to work on the campaign trail.

We also delve into Lett's misinformation that the Tory position on parental rights "was largely seen as pandering to a tiny and unpalatable constituency"- when only 16% of those polled by Angus Reid are anti-parent's rights. It's a hill that progressives seem determined to die on.

As Marty concludes, there are definitely unattached voters disaffected by the PCs- but the NDP and Manitoba Liberals would never reach out to them. Lest they be accused of "pandering to a tiny and unpalatable constituency" made up of Manitobans who rejected Pallister-era pandemic overeach and mandates, and voiced concerns about abuse of process and civil liberties.

Aug 28 2023- Kinew Shies Away From Media Scrum, While Lamont Accepts The Risk 29 Aug 202300:45:15

A chance sighting of Wab Kinew, and his as-yet unexplained refusal to take media questions after a campaign announcement this weekend, propelled the topic of Part 1 of Episode 51: The Perils of Media Scrums.

As NDP poll support plummeted, the party has been drawn off the 'single issue ballot' approach emphasizing health care, with multiple headlines in the Winnipeg Sun all over the policy map; but the NDP returned to their core issue this weekend with the old "but think of the children" narrative. Critics voiced sharp rebuttals to the Kinew platform: "I'm tired of raising other people's children."

With pledges to hire 300 nurses (with the Tories having already recruited 200) and other promises made, a reporter revealed Kinew "would not take questions from reporters" at the U of W event. Marty Gold compares Kinew's aversion to the media, with the approach of the leader of the Manitoba Liberals.

Listener supported- it's with your help, that these important stories are being told! You can contribute via Interac transfer, or by this link:  paypal.com/paypalme/MartyGoldMedia

15:28 -  A scrum with Dougald Lamont last week about housing for the homeless illustrated the risk a party leader faces when the media is allowed to engage them freely.

Listen to the logical question Marty asked about the background of Liberal candidates and how Lamont was caught off-guard, but remained respectful. Then he was challenged on the role of the City of Winnipeg in harassing certain kinds of residential property owners out of business- and while Lamont disputed the premise of the question, he made sure to explain how private owners would have a role in his policy, based on a housing model used in Medicine Hat.

19:56 -  Marty gives a brief overview of housing safety issues and notes that unlike when Kinew saw the media gathered, "at least there was some dialogue there" with Lamont.

Also, the one word KInew didn't utter in his 'save the children' campaign plank.

26:55 - The Crime Courts and Public Safety Update, sponsored by JamRock Security

Another murder on Furby; Cops look for clues in a June stabbing on west Portage, and get kudos for busting a porch pirate.

Lastly, a longtime listener sent along an item about a judge rebuking a family that had posted a surety for their 3D-printing gun-loving son, but felt their human rights were being breached when the cops kept showing up to do curfew checks.

You'll hear their pleadings, and how they did make one particular point about police intimidation. They were worried about the neighbours in Tuxedo; the court was worried about other things. Hear about the decision and a few points the family should have considered before. (And thanks for the tip!)

Aug 24 2023- Unionized Reporter Manufactures 'Big-Liquor' Conspiracy As Liquor Mart Pickets End 25 Aug 202300:46:31

When it became apparent that the liquor supply disruptors were heading to a contract agreement, the mainstream media lost a reliable supply of daily hot takes and updates. In analyzing the fallout, we see how unionized reporters can show their bias when reporting on government labour issues.

As Marty Gold describes in Episode 50, there had already been a difference of opinion between the MGEU and the liquor workers union about moving to arbitration. And NDP leader Wab Kinew and his MLLC critic Lisa Naylor had already given contradictory messages on how they would handle labour actions if they were in charge of Manitoba.

Then, the tabling of a 12% raise likely to be accepted by MLLC workers gave the NDP one less source of headlines to work over the PC's with.

Luckily, the local newspaper leapt to the rescue.

"Massive, multinational alcohol beverage companies are trying to bend the ear of Manitoba’s Progressive Conservative government", breathlessly pronounced the Free Press, manufacturing yet another liquor industry crisis.

Demonizing the Stefanson government for promising more private retail distribution wasn't enough - it's a plot that includes greedy brewers and bottling barons!

Never stated outright, is the anti-business mentality that insists there's something sinister about how Labatt's "previously advocated against increased markups on liquor in Manitoba" and other companies registered to lobby MLAs "amid a bitter liquor workers strike that comes after repeated attempts by the Tories to expand private booze sales."

One of the bills proposed a pilot project in corner stores or grocery stores. The second bill would allow private beer vendors and wine stores to stock additional thirst-quenchers. Somehow, that's a threat?

In the old-time newsrooms in Winnipeg, bottles of scotch were a staple item in desk drawers of publishers, editors, and ink-stained wretches covering courts cops and sports.

Now, modern journalists draw a direct line between bottlers wanting drinkers to be able to afford their products and in more places with dismantling the job security of union members. No wonder the Winnipeg Press Club folded.

24:51 Part 2 - As public trust in public institutions such as the mainstream media collapses, Marty looks at some of the reasons why it's happening in Winnipeg.

One reason: people being told things they are concerned about are 'conspiracy theories' when they aren't.

Don't worry about the WEF influencing governments to impose their warped goals, claims the Free Press, worry about Labatt's or Molson's wanting you to be able to buy beer at the 7-11 and not get gouged on the price...

Lastly, another example of where the local media is failing: "The North End is forgotten about."

Garbage dumping in North End back lanes leaves filth and used needles strewn in the path of children; it took 2 years to finally report on. The public doesn't feel they can turn to the broadcast media and get action on their problems if it can't be framed by the elitists in the media as an issue of 'equity' 'justice' or 'climate crisis'.

Here at TGCTS, we frame local stories using sensible and realistic criteria, not those of the WEF.

Aug 21 2023 - Family Speaks Out After Killer Of Paul Radocaj Dies in Custody21 Aug 202300:27:19

Pajo (Paul) Radocaj, 83, was born in Croatia and was a retired construction worker living in the North End. Last August 15, new neighbours moved in. As you will hear, his daughter Vera got a call the next day that something was wrong at her dad's house.

This special edition of the Crime Courts and Public Safety update brings the story of a family whose elderly father was brutally murdered last summer, by a killer who will never face justice.

Roman Demczyszak, a friend of the new neighbours, was arrested in December and charged with 2nd degree murder. A few weeks ago, the Radocaj family got a call about the killer, too.

Listener supported- it's with your help, that these important stories are being told! You can contribute via Interac transfer, or by this link:  paypal.com/paypalme/MartyGoldMedia

In Episode 49, Marty Gold reads the statement of Vera Radocaj with details about her dad, the day of the murder, the failed alibi, and the evidence that would prove Demcyszak did it- had he not died in custody.

"With these unfortunate circumstances I was now able to find out what happened and how my dad was killed. I was informed that even though the case did not go to trial it wasn't a matter of who did it. Roman was the only one involved..."

[One correction to the details provided- the murder happened in St. Johns constituency, which TGCTS regularly covers. However it was mis-stated that Paul lived on St. Johns Avenue- his home was on Cathedral.)

13:02 Part 2 - More details from the west end of a bus stop assault on Ellice and arrests in a Furby St. murder; plus a bit of background about the 'Molotov Man' busted on Redwood Ave.

Aug 18 2023 - Dougald Lamont: "We Want to Do Something Different" 18 Aug 202300:09:25

After a press conference last week, Manitoba Liberal leader Dougald Lamont took a few minutes for an interview with TGCTS.

Lamont is in a dogfight to retain his seat in St. Boniface and he defines the top issues in the riding: cost of living, crime, and healthcare.

His seat, and those of his two fellow caucus members Dr. Jon Gerrard (River Heights) and Cindy Lamoureux (Tyndall Park) are being targetted by the NDP as they try to claw their way past the Tories and reach a bare majority of 29 members to attain government.

One electoral obstacle Lamont addressed in the interview that voters will want to hear, is the growing unpopularity of the federal Liberal Party and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

You'll hear his comments about what the Grits have accomplished in the Legislature, what he's hearing at the doors, the opposition NDP, governing Progressive Conservatives, and a surprising conversation he had with Alberta Premier Danielle Smith.

Aug 15 2023 - "Quietly These Thugs Are Taking Over" Winnipeg Neighborhoods16 Aug 202300:42:46

A brief opening segment recaps the tremendous audience response to recent podcasts about the provincial election and public safety, and provides a correction thanks to keen ear of city councilor Ross Eadie.

Then, Episode 47 reviews not only media reports, but first-hand accounts from Winnipeg residents and business owners about the mayhem they are coming face to face with all across the city. They are echoing our recent interview with an 88 year old retired Magistrate who got slugged at a bus stop.

8:58 Part 2- Crime and Public Safety Update, sponsored by Jamrock Security:

TGCTS has extensively covered the murderous mayhem downtown, the growing fear in Point Douglas caused by criminals using homeless camps as a base of operations, and the siege of South Osborne by daring thieves using the transitway as an easy ride in and out of the area.

This past week things got so out of control, we can barely find time to mention 2 suspected arsons and a fire at a homeless camp near the Osborne Bridge.

We provide the frightening details of random violence and premeditated, organized thefts spanning from St. Vital to St. Boniface to River Heights. Exasperated homeowners and store clerks were threatened by knives, canes and aggressive behavior; women were punched by strangers; and rampant bike thefts resulted in a message to City Hall:

"What is the point of taking your bike out if it has about a 50/50 chance of being stolen each time you go anywhere with it."

Hear examples of how victims - and bystanders- are beginning to confront the lawbreakers, such as the surprise awaiting one garbage thief. There are husbands in the community showing leadership and bravery, while city councilors have seemingly checked out for the summer.

While police chief Danny Smyth is proving to be the most bumbling cop since Barney Fife, citizens are comparing notes online and acting to identify and track violent, remorseless invaders who are undermining basic public safety- things they expect the police would do.

31.00 - As Marty describes, the best example of the rapid deterioration of public safety is occuring this summer in a neglected St. Boniface neighborhood we've championed for almost a decade.

A listener from the Dufresne area near Marion and Archibald has connected the dots with other residents about the steep decline in the quality of life in the ward. Their conclusion?

"Quietly these thugs are taking over St. Boniface."

They're encountering obvious criminal conduct like drug deals and junkies cranking in their back lanes, doorways and parks that police simply aren't interested in disrupting and their city councilor, Matt Allard isn't interested in, period.

Unreported in the mainstream media, they are afflicted just like Point Douglas by sketchy homeless campers on the local riverbank.

Is it a coincidence that city officials have let both areas descend into chaos ever since they successfully pushed back on idiotic urbanist concepts like a football stadium on Higgins and the Marion Freeway?

A few patterns are developing:

  • Predatory criminal behavior - and strewn garbage, discarded used needles, and public indecency- has spread across neighborhoods within 10 minutes of downtown.
  • With more and more brazen crime occurring in broad daylight, people no longer feel safe in their own yards.
  • Unlike the bleeding hearts from the 'root causes!' crowd, the people affected have no sympathy for their tormentors.

Marty predicts what will happen when candidates come to the doorstep seeking votes. Incumbent and aspiring MLAs may be in for a grilling.

Aug 13 2023 - Lamont Banks on Economic Policy to Fuel Campaign Momentum13 Aug 202300:27:14

After decades in the political doldrums, the Manitoba Liberal Party is trying to parlay dissatisfaction with the two leading parties into creating a safe harbour for voters. Leader Dougald Lamont, MLA for St. Boniface, set out an economic development plank at a press conference on Friday that he hopes will convince voters there’s a third way.

“The NDP aren’t very good socialists and the PC’s aren’t very good capitalists”, Lamont insisted, “because even with the launch of their venture capital fund, many entrepreneurs aren’t able to get any kind of financing at all.” He said that women, newcomers, minorities and First Nations aren’t qualifying for funding “because they don’t have collateral.” He cited a recent speaker from the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce and immigrant groups who want to start businesses but can’t access capital.

Help us cover the costs of our local reporting and provincial election coverage! paypal.com/paypalme/MartyGoldMedia

Lamont has proposed creating a “politically-independent Manitoba Business Development Bank (MBDB) that would focus only on helping Manitoba businesses and farmers build and grow, with equity share purchases instead of loans”. The focus would be on people with little access to capital from having to mortgage their homes or rack up credit cards to float their enterprise. “It’s really going to change and grow the economy for the future of this province.”

The Manitoba Liberals claim this initiative to create jobs and wealth would help “take partisan politics out of local business development” by empowering a Board of Directors made up of “non-partisan experts and board applicants hired based on qualifications.” The plan would see the MBDB buying shares from companies – equity investments that owners can start paying back once the business is profitable.

He said the $100M fund would invest in Manitoba owned and headquartered businesses and “avoid corporate welfare as we’ve seen in Manitoba in the form of massive tax breaks or grants.”

“The NDP and PCs have often bent over backwards to subsidize some of the richest corporations in the world, while doing nothing for Manitoba businesses,” claimed Lamont. Instead of having a ‘branch plant economy’, he said that by emulating the approach of North Dakota and Alberta and “driving grassroots economic development… we’re offering real change, real growth, and a better return on investment.”

“It’s really going to change and grow the economy for the future of this province” Lamont told the media.

You'll hear him explain: “There’s no question this is an incredibly important election, there’s a crisis in health care, a climate crisis, an inflation crisis, a debt crisis…  we can’t simply go back to the way things were before the pandemic because they weren’t working then either, let’s be honest.”

As Marty Gold points out, critics wanting to derail the campaign can point the finger at the governing federal Liberals for those crisis issues and tie Lamont to the anchor of Justin Trudeau’s record.

Polling at under the 14% scored in the 2019 election, Manitoba Grits have an uphill fight to even hold their existing trio of seats, let alone capture another to achieve official Party status in the Legislature. Noting a sizeable pool of undecided voters that he said are very receptive to candidates like Robert-Falcon Ouellette at the doorstep, Lamont is optimistic:

“The PCs and NDP are attacking federal Liberals, but they aren’t talking about us at all. We want to put forward a positive vision and a plan for what we need to do, because there’s a ton of huge problems and we need to plan to deal with them and the other parties want to coast on hot air.”

Aug 11 2023 - From McPhillips to South Osborne, Winnipeg’s Turning Into Gotham City11 Aug 202300:44:25

Startling reports of crime, violence and public disorder continue in Episode 45 - recounted in 2 parts from north end to south.

Part One focuses on a hard-working businessman who endured a series of break-ins that caused him to rack up $85,000 in security costs for his restaurants - and that was before this week's bizarre encounter with an aggrieved cabbie.

Marty Gold explains this incident apparently started with the driver being accused of having an open beer in his cab by a security guard at the Four Crowns on McPhillips St. A few hours later the hack returned with some friends and busted up the beer vendor.

Hear why the cab company might have to pony up so the restauranteur doesn't file yet another insurance claim.

"It's costing my employees their safety," said Ravi Ramberran. "We're having to protect ourselves in every area of the city, and that's just extremely sad."

"The security costs of doing business here are insane."

He said River City is turning into Gotham City because of the rot of a growing criminal underclass spreading across Winnipeg that has no fear of consequences. He's not alone:

“Our government’s solutions are all mid- to long-term solutions for a short-term problem,” said Shaun Jeffrey, CEO of the Manitoba Restaurant and Foodservices Association “We need short-term solutions.”

A point that Ramberran made applies to all victims of crime across Winnipeg:

“I’m getting really tired of politicians just talking about it. We need some action… If you hurt someone, take their stuff or damage their property, you need to go down extremely hard so you don’t do it again."

  • To sponsor / news tips: martygoldlive@gmail.com

18:16 - Part 2 - Marty explains that the lesson of what happens when there is no enforcement or deterrance is being felt in Point Douglas and St. Boniface, and is now a central concern in South Osborne.

- In PD, councilor Vivian Santos told the Free Press the criminal activity springing from homeless encampments is 'assumed'. Hear her idea of a solution- and what an affected resident thought of her grasp on the serious safety issues facing home and business owners.

- In St. Boniface, the stolen bike spree and other theft continues while area councilor Matt Allard hasn't offered a single word to comfort crime victims.

- Now we can add South Osborne to the list of areas under siege. Constant road construction is testing the patience- and economic health- of the Riverview neighborhood on the east and Lord Roberts on the west.

But listeners told Marty that's compounded by an unbelievable surge of organized criminal theft that is home-grown and which, depite evidence of the activity, is not being proactively dismantled by the cops under police Chief Danny Smyth. And as we predicted years ago, the rapid transit line plays into the rise in crime there.

Listen to how far thieves- some obviously addicts but others obviously not - will go to violate the safety of residents who are desperate for relief. Their city councilor Sherri Rollins seems oblivious to the fact people are moving AWAY as a result. There's no organized effort to stem the tide- yet loud voices claim legalized shooting galleries would make things better?

TGCTS will continue to speak out for the victims across our city.

Aug 9 2023 - Former Magistrate, 88, Sunday Punched at Downtown Bus Stop09 Aug 202300:46:28

TGCTS has set the pace in reporting on the eruption of ultra-violent incidents involving underage teens, random assaults, and senseless shootings. And the past week has firmly established that this summer, anyone can be a victim - it's a Winnipeg thing.

In Episode 44 we set the stage for our special interview with a crime victim: A round-up of recent murders involving teens, a half-dozen fires/arsons, bike thefts from restaurants, outings and of course garages. And, yet another unprovoked beating near a bus stop. Hear why rampant drug use = Moms in St. Boniface can't let their kids out to play.

It's a harrowing review of incidents that are shaking public confidence, as people now fear going about normal day to day living.

Contrary to the belief of some unlucky MSM pundits, the Stefanson government has to confront the crime and justice problems - and their own failures on the file - in the election campaign and speak out for victims, because there are votes to be had the NDP won't bring to the ballot box... or even try to attract.

15:10 Part 2 -  What happened when an 88 year old man wanted to catch a bus downtown to enjoy the long weekend with his friends in St. Boniface?

As he told police, he's used to beggars approaching downtown and having to fork over a toonie..., but this guy on Sunday afternoon looked different.

"My glasses went flying"

You'll hear a former magistrate describe being suddenly confronted while waiting for a bus at Main St. and Assiniboine Ave. and how it could have turned out worse if not for Good Samaritans.

(Not the kind of sunny Sunday the Friends of Upper Fort Garry envisioned for that corner back in the day.)

And to his surprise, he found out he was not the only person he knew to be struck out of the blue last week. The former magistrate gives advice for fearful seniors and other residents of the City, and tells what a cop told him about the situation on Winnipeg streets.

34:16 Part 3- A Tale of Two Court Cases: one where the Crown Attorneys did the right thing, and the other, where the Crown's should be called on the carpet after they inexcusably stalled a sexual assault trial right off the docket.

The Crime Courts & Public Safety update is sponsored by Jamrock Security

Aug 15 2024- Media Misinformation Masks Metro's Plan20-50 Mess13 Aug 202401:11:48

Episode 15 has the latest about growing opposition to the Winnipeg Metropolitan Region board attempt to take over development planning from the city and adjacent rural areas. The media- which has no clue about the ongoing legislative process- takes cues from the WMR narrative to smear critics of Plan20-50.

Then, a crime report with a follow-up to Marty's column in the Winnipeg Sun about the struggle of west end businesses to fend off criminals.

Part 1- A brief reminiscence of the Peter Kapusta era of Duffy's Taxi as the company moved this week to new digs. It's a place quite familiar to old-timers, the former Salisbury House at Notre Dame and Ingersoll. A few imitations of dispatchers get slipped in.

Then, an important message about our Season 5 Funding Drive. Your support is crucial to producing our unique investigations, special interviews and news-breaking Sun columns. A copy of Retropeg awaits our donors- and contributors over $250 will receive a very rare hardcover version!

17.13 Part 2- Leading up to the public hearing in Niverville, the media gladly let the WMR label detractors as "misinformed" and "confused" without speaking to a single opponent.

The Free Press wasn't alone in spreading false information. CJOB's Fake News coverage - Mayor Gillingham was not "whisked away"- gets particular attention, but Global TV and CTV Winnipeg also failed to ask hard questions.

Here's our preview of the session - and our report to the Sun about the scene when 500 people showed up to be heard.

25.00 You'll hear new details about how it was postponed- and the surprising discovery of the identity of the panicked WMR official who needed Don Woodstock's help to try to calm the angry crowd.

In the aftermath, Metro dispatched executive director Jennifer Freeman on a media blitz to spin what the plan "isn't about." In interviews, she's mystified why people are opposing the proposed edicts of planners and insists the plan doesn't mention various concerns.

But as Marty explains, it doesn't have to be "in the plan" right now- as it will enable the WMR board to add binding restrictions and conditions on member municipalities later.

36.10 - While Freeman and Gillingham urge opponents to "read the plan"-it was their own failure to hold proper public consultations that directly led to what they call "misconceptions."

They have the misconception that a normal person can glean what is really going on, as the plan is full of jargony language, kum-ba-ya cheerleading, and illustrations that never show what their plan looks like in the dead of winter or depicts any homeless on the street.

Meanwhile, Selkirk has opted out, and other RM's may soon follow as rules designed to regulate growth in Winnipeg would hamper their own communities.

47.25 Hear the objections filed by Keystone Agricultural Producers. They flagged inaccurate maps and narrow definitions that prove WMR planners and their aspirations for a 'circular economy' have no idea about the ag sector and thought politicians alone should develop policy for wetlands and farms.

Five segments were done by Winnipeg TV and radio, and not a single opponent of Plan20-50 was spoken with or named. Coming up in the Sun- drilling into Plan20-50 and the 'dirty words' the WMR won't discuss that are buried in their paperwork.

55.00 - Part 3 - Crime and Public Safety Update- Readers add some examples of other Arlington-area businesses afflicted by crime; Coun. Ross Eadie blames crime as the North End Biz has now lost its last bank while almost 50% of member businesses have closed since 2010; on Selkirk a 15 year old was almost hacked to death by a punk on Saturday night yet a murder charge wasn't laid; and in EK, 2 cowards in their mid-20's used a bat to rob and beat a newly-arrived Ukrainian mother and her 14 year old son two weeks ago.

We wonder what refugees are told about the roaming gangs of goons they might encounter in Winnipeg.

Aug 6 2023- Patrick Allard Kicks-Off Campaign: "Our Neighborhood Has Been Forgotten About"07 Aug 202300:10:37

There's no bigger longshot in Manitoba politics than an independent candidate seeking to unseat an established MLA - but that's exactly what Patrick Allard is aiming to do in St. Johns.

A contractor with experience in all sorts of building rehabilitations and renovations, Allard is a lifelong north-ender. He thinks that will help open the eyes and ears of voters in the constituency who may not be satisfied with two-term NDP representative Nahanni Fontaine, who has not lived north of the tracks since she was 12 and who isn't seen as veering out of her preferred social-justice lanes to address serious problems of crime and public safety in the area.

Help us cover the costs of our local reporting enterprise:  paypal.com/paypalme/MartyGoldMedia

Allard is no stranger to controversy himself, as a favorite target of the mandate-promoting media during the pandemic and a frequent recipient of pandemic infraction tickets. He threw his hat in the ring to replace Premier Brian Pallister in a by-election and then last fall sought a seat on the Winnipeg School Board.

In this brief interview at his campaign office opening, Allard outlined his vision for what an MLA should be doing for the North End.

Aug 3 2023 - Is This What Louis Riel Would Say About Kevin Klein?03 Aug 202300:28:44

There's a lot of good information and interviews coming soon on TGCTS, but after a number of listeners sent their views on a CBC report, the issue of identity politics gets Episode 42 to itself. It's a more personal view on public affairs than usual in many ways.

The race-obsessed CBC was sure to find critics of Environment Minister Kevin Klein from numerous directions, including an estranged brother, questioning the true connections of the Kirkfield Park Tory to aboriginal blood.

The discussion is a search for reason, truth, and the validity of different points of view including from a "60's Scoop" survivors group who jumped into the fray. Less discussed by the media, was that an uncle openly identified as a metis when many from his generation did not embrace the label.

Help us cover the costs of our local reporting enterprise:  paypal.com/paypalme/MartyGoldMedia

As Marty Gold points out, in the middle of this 'No you aren't/Yes I am' debate came a statement of fact from the MMF that Klein doesn't meet their criteria. The media played that card without making clear, Klein could have had 2 mixed-blood parents swear on a stack of Bibles and he still not meet their criteria- because the lineage is not from the Red River Valley.

Marty compares that with his own experience when, back in the days of the MMF emerging as a political force, he was gladly given an MMF card- despite being 100% Jewish.

Some fast research helped out this episode, with court decisions about how 'Metis' (as a political definition) and 'metis' with a small 'm' can be defined- and then he found an important quote from the founder of the Metis nation.

16:06 - Part 2 - The words of Louis Riel explain the accepted original term that evolved into the common use of 'metis', Riel's rejection of people being "pre-occupied" with blood quantums, and the scope of his vision of who was included.

Even though it's about Manitobans, are the principles the same for current generations- the descendants of mixed blood families in other regions in Canada?

Hear about the collateral impact on relatives out of the public eye, when a family member in the public eye has their genetics questioned. In this situation, the media's credibility has no wiggle room for mistakes.

How do different cultures view their familial ties? And, of unspoken importance, how do their enemies? What can happen when measures like blood quantums are raised- Marty tells how it would affect his own family. Finally, the insightful comments of listeners, including a Metis business woman and of another family of Riel's era. Not everyone is a fan of Kevin Klein and think that he's stumbled over this matter and the connection to his murdered mother.

Listen for the parting reminder to the MSM that the look into this MLA's background opens the door to other looks elsewhere into the backgrounds of others- if they dare.

7.54 Part 2 - We catch up on the Crime Courts & Public Safety update with thanks to our new sponsor, Jamrock Security:

- Hear the numbers behind the huge hike in crime in Winnipeg and Manitoba with the data from StatsCan, reflecting the descent into chaos since the election of the Trudeau government in 2015.

- One of the reasons there's more guns in play? A recovering addict in the Morberg House program explained, "If you’re selling drugs and someone can push you down and take your drugs, you’re not going to do very well.”

- Meanwhile, North End safety activist Sel Burrows has joined the chorus decrying the violent unprovoked attacks by youth and describes a new trend he's seeing: armed "ganglets" terrorizing anyone they target.

- The fear of violence downtown has resulted in a business exodus, with the area having only 2 remaining coffee shoppes.

- As Marty explains, he had noted the expansion of 24/7 corner stores in the inner city and had wanted to speak with the owners of Quickie Marts about trying to fill the gap left by 7-11 shuttering so many locations. Instead, the first mention of the chain is about the shotgun blast fired by a shoplifter on Tuesday, seriously wounding a clerk at the Logan and Tecumseh location.

- The details are scarce but a woman was charged with attempted murder when she knifed a 6 year old child. Homicide #19 was only narrowly averted by emergency teams.

- The youth violence isn't just a Winnipeg thing, as a basketball game turned into a horror film in Thompson when an armed 14 year sought to settle some scores and attacked 2 other teens.

- MMIW protesters made their way to the downtown cop shop causing damage, upset that a group leader was arrested for thretening the life of a security guard at the Brady Landfill. What do they call it in other jurisdictions when police stations are attacked?

You'll hear why the actions of extremist elements diminish public sympathy and swings support behind Premier Stefanson for her stance not to risk the lives and health of searchers for two bodies believed to be in the Prairie Green landfill. An expert sent in his math about the costs and potential effects on "good people (being) traumatized."

- Marty notes the elected politicians who have kept silent about this, about rampant public disorder, and about how even shoplifting is an everyday sight now all across the City, dispiriting store employees and shoppers as they watch their community become more dangerous. TGCTS is committed to speaking out for those affected by the violence and crime.

Coming up: More on the $5M Parker Lands court loss debacle and the 'unrelated' self-isolation of Councilor John Orlikow; Marty's visit to a homeless encampment in South Point Douglas; and, a special Provincial candidate interview.

July 28 2023 - South Pt. Douglas Residents "In Danger Daily... Encampments Need To Be Shut Down - Now"28 Jul 202300:41:22

Episode 40 starts with a brief follow-up on our reports about the growing controversy surrounding a court judgement assessing the city a $5M liability to Gem Equities in the Parker Lands dispute, and a complaint to the Integrity commissioner about the role played by Coun. John Orlikow in the wrongdoing: There's 101 Reasons Why Winnipeg Council Must Review Orlikow's Role In $5M Court Ruling

Coun. Eadie Defends Orlikow After Integrity Commissioner Asked To Investigate

Next, our investigation continues into the fight faced by residents, home owners and businesses in Point Douglas to get any relief from the rampant public disorder connected to the entrenchment of homeless camps in the area.

You'll hear behind the scenes details of a terse reply a homeowner in South Point Douglas gave to a letter from a Manitoba Public Safety director- "Boilerplate responses are not action."

After the DoJ official got taken to task for sidestepping responsibility for resident safety, a small but appreciated enforcement action was taken by police about 48 hours later and we have eyewitness accounts. Cause and effect? Hard to say, but it's easy to say that the TGCTS coverage of brought CBC to the table.

Marty Gold reviews their report about the homeless encampments and the comments of a community leader. The current situation of intimidation, violence, fear, theft, vandalism, and murder, flows from a failed hands-off approach by the City of Winnipeg that started under former Mayor, Brian Bowman.

"The disruption in lives and society is huge and I don't see it getting better."

Listen carefully to what was said about the current Mayor and the area councilor who went on a tour of the problem area and offered no action. Marty describes the proof City Hall has failed the property owners and citizens of Point Douglas: the current-day experience of anxious days and sleepless nights caused by garbage, filth and round the clock criminal activity. How much did it cost to replace an industrial air conditioner unit after Pt. Douglas vagrants climbed the roof to steal the copper? It's unacceptable.

TGCTS will continue to shine a spotlight on the crime and abuse that is causing residents to sell off their homes and flee.

July 26 2023- Coun. Eadie Defends Orlikow After Integrity Commissioner Asked To Investigate25 Jul 202300:24:50

Our podcast discussing the behind-the-scenes conduct of Councilor John Orlikow with City officials thwarting a developer's plans, brought action from listeners, and re-action from one of Orlikow's supporters on City Council.

Last week listeners heard directly from the King's Bench court decision, a $5M ruling that two City of Winnipeg planners acted outside of their authority to stall and delay development applications from Andrew Marquess for the Parker Lands project.

Justice Shawna McCarthy wrote: "the impetus and motivation for this deliberate interference with the plaintiffs’ applications were primarily the wishes and demands of the area councillor, and the desire of some public servants to accommodate those wishes.”

( Here is our report: There's 101 Reasons Why Winnipeg Council Must Review Orlikow's Role In $5M Court Ruling )

In Episode 39 this week, the controversy heats up - Orlikow told the media he "will keep an open mind" as Marquess and Gem Equities proceed with the Fulton Grove plan.

But one resident who heard our report laid a formal complaint against Orlikow - with the City Integrity Commissioner, Sherri Walsh.

"John Orlikow should be thoroughly investigated by your commission and during this period of investigation, which should have already started, he should recuse himself from any vote, decision, action as it relates to the Parker Lands' Development. He has lost all his integrity & credibility with respect to this Developer Led project."

In Part One, you'll hear the complaint that was sent to council overseer Sherri Walsh, the movie character Orlikow was compared to, and the stern admonition in the complaint directed to Mayor Scott Gillingham by one of his opponents last fall, Don Woodstock.

Then came the reaction to our report, and to Woodstock's complaint.

14:55 - Part 2 - Emails from Mynarski Coun. Ross Eadie claimed Orlikow should face no consequences:

To Marty Gold: "if a councillor cites issues where the city could get ripped off by private sector capitalists, they are doing their job – thanks John."

To the complainant, copied to Walsh and fellow council members: "Give it up Mr. Woodstock."

Eadie had a few more comments in those emails you will want to hear, about some Parker Land history and also about Marquess.

His remarks are sure to generate even more discussion about how John Orlikow and City Hall handle developers, and what the Court ruled was and wasn't legal in the process.

Please share this 25 minute podcast! We encourage the public to be informed of the evidence in the case- and to let their councilors and Mayor Gillingham know what they think should be done to hold the planners, city administration, and Coun. Orlikow accountable.

July 19 2023- There's 101 Reasons Why Winnipeg Council Must Review Orlikow's Role In $5M Court Ruling19 Jul 202300:29:01

The blaring headlines outlined an expensive rebuke the City of Winnipeg received, after a property developer was misled and deceived during a lengthy approval process:

Judge awards developer $5M after ruling 2 city planners deliberately stymied development of Parker lands

In Episode 37, we go deeper into the scandal and discuss what King's Bench Justice Shauna McCarthy read, saw and heard, which witnesses were credible and which were't believed. Hear the alibis she rejected about why the Fulton Grove neighborhood that Andrew Marquess wanted to build was slow-walked and stalled.

Chip in now to support local reporting paypal.com/paypalme/MartyGoldMedia

We report on the emails to and from the planners and other City officials, with the details (that would cost him millions) of BIG secrets kept from Marquess; numerous last minute 'just one more thing' arbitrary height limits; procedural tricks; and a laundry list of Secondary Plan shortcomings that McCarthy dismissed as a "fabrication".

The evidence the judge cited from the emails and testimony of the 2 planners was weighed against an important principal she enunciated:

[277] A citizen applying for a permit, or approval of a development plan, is entitled to rely upon the fact that the public service, and the specialized employees such as municipal planners, are acting within their statutory authority and applying legislation and by-laws enacted by elected officials in a fair and consistent manner and not for improper reasons.”

You can read the decision for yourself: https://www.manitobacourts.mb.ca/site/assets/files/1042/6165347_manitoba_inc__et_al__v__the_city_of_winnipeg_et_al__2023_mbkb_114.pdf

The subhead on that CBC report, however, is even more concerning than the headline, as it wasn't simply two planners going rogue: Officials acted at behest of River Heights Coun. John Orlikow, judge states in decision

That wasn't fake news: “Of particular concern is that on a few occasions concerns were raised by individuals in the public service about conduct that was deemed inappropriate, and notwithstanding that, the conduct of some parties continued.

The evidence is also clear, in my view, that the impetus and motivation for this deliberate interference with the plaintiffs’ applications were primarily the wishes and demands of the area councillor, and the desire of some public servants to accommodate those wishes.”

Marty reviews Orlikow's denials that he had anything to do with Marquess losing millions of dollars while being strung along into revising a planning document over a dozen times.

Orlikow says he had no part in delay of development

Hoping that the mandatory summer break will cool off the heat from the courtroom debacle, at last week's meeting City Council didn't lift a finger to hold the planners engaged in “misfeasance in public office" against Gem Equities, or the lawyers who somehow neglected to submit key documents to the court, accountable for the $5M fiasco.

But, they also didn't want to consider the problem of their colleague from River Heights- Fort Garry. Why would they? After all, Orlikow has claimed the court's findings about his conduct and intentions were fake news.

"When asked about the findings linked to Orlikow, (Transcona Coun. Russ) Wyatt said any response to that should be left up to voters."

Not so fast there, Russ.

Any taxpayer of Winnipeg who listens to the details in Episode 37 of Orlikow's unprecedented multi-facted meddling in a developer-led plan, attempt to manipulate property values to control expropriation costs, and direction to stall the Parker Lands process until after an election will come to a different conclusion.

As Marty states, unless the burden of the costs is borne only by residents of Orlikow's ward, it's not their responsibility- it is up to Council to test Orlikow's denials. ******

July 16 2023- Tory Michael Birch Aims To Upend NDP In Northern Manitoba Seat 17 Jul 202300:59:48

Listener feedback on some recent podcast topics, and a brief recap of two court decisions that embarassed the City of Winnipeg, opens Episode 36.

This first segment points towards follow-ups in upcoming episodes- such as the alarming delay of an ambulance in St. Boniface. Those may become more commonplace if the City rams through proposed bike lanes.

Marty also speaks about the passing of longtime family friend Norman Freedman, who contributed so much to our city as a social worker, volunteer and community leader.

17:39 - It's the first TGCTS interview of the 2023 provincial election!

Last week Marty ventured to a fundraiser at the Pony Corral to meet a Progressive Conservative candidate poised to try to do the unthinkable- break the NDP hammerlock on constituencies north of the 53rd parallel.

Listeners will hear Sports Minister Obby Khan prime the enthusiastic and multi-ethnic crowd with a distinctly non-partisan message about the Conservative's efforts to woo voters in the 16 remote communities of Keewatinook, and then hear from the candidate himself.

25:18 - Michael Birch is a newcomer to politics but no newcomer to making things happen.

Birch brings voters a resume featuring an extensive background in business development, working with First Nations communities. As the Tories look to open a new northern front in the seat-by-seat battle to win the election, Birch says, "We're not going in this to lose!"

In a fast and fun interview, he describes his platform of reforming the "welfare dependent state" and creating economic prosperity in those remote communities by expanding mining operations. Birch also reveals his secret weapon- a campaign team that once dislodged an NDP deputy premier.

Marty assesses the Tory campaign tactics in light of polls showing a neck and neck race- do they improve the chances to upend the NDP and inch towards re-election?

38:49 Part 2- Two items under the Crime tab you'll want to hear about:

1) A listener sent along a link to a TV news story about Premier Stefanson's commitment for increased public safety funding for downtown. He figured Marty might have some observations. Sure thing!

How was the headline for the video misleading? Hear why the true nature of the extremist group that Winnipeg newsrooms love to platform is hardly "grassroots".

2) Marty reads aloud an online commentary by a River Heights property owner who has had to call the cops 15 - fifteen - times this year.

"I agree with all the cameras they are putting downtown … it’s about time! But that does nothing to help Osborne Village, West Broadway, Wolseley, Crescentwood, etc."

She went into specific shocking details you won't believe- police response was rare and when they did show up, removing the problematic criminals was not their priority.

And this wasn't about loitering- the cases included church, garage and car break-ins, a wanted murder suspect, and a vandal toting around a giant hammer.

"I am thoroughly disgusted with this neighbourhood and this city. The crime in River Heights/ Crescentwood is rampant!"

At the end of the episode, Marty notes who her city councilor is- John Orlikow.

A few observations are voiced about Orlikow denouncing a court ruling that will costs taxpayers $5M in damages to Gem Equities. While bureaucrats he was pressuring "were aware their conduct was unlawful and likely to cause harm to the plaintiffs", do the facts back up his claim that his ethics and conduct in the scandal were above reproach and the court got it wrong?

In coming episodes, listeners will hear the judge's findings about Orlikow quoted directly from her ruling, and more comments about the case - from a former city hall insider.

July 11 2023 - Assiniboine Park's PR Problem: The Ten Commandments Might Offend Someone11 Jul 202300:24:04

Who's offended by the Ten Commandments?

Apparently the bigwigs at the helm of our showcase public park in Tuxedo didn't want to find out.

And if you weren't aware that the Assiniboine Park Conservancy Board of Directors kicked the can on their problem over to Winnipeg City Hall, neither was Marty Gold - until an outraged listener tripped over the paper trail.

* Join our Facebook group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/TGCTS

In a development almost completely ignored by the local media, the stalemate landed with an 'advisory committee' which conducted yet another dubious public consultation process. They're still pondering what to recommend. In the next year councilors may have to vote on whether to

A) re-install a monument donated to the City in 1965 depicting the Biblical two tablets - removed during park pavilion renovations - or

B) keep it out of public view lest some angry woke cranks protest against yet another historic site that represents our society's most common values.

The 10 Commandments (or Aseret Hadibrot, “The Ten Statements,” in Hebrew) were communicated by G‑d to the people of Israel at Mount Sinai, 50 days after the Exodus from Egypt. The event is known as the Giving of the Torah. G‑d then carved the Ten Commandments onto two tablets of stone, which he gave to Moses.

Hear how, as part of an international campaign to help guide troubled youth, the Fraternal Order of Eagles presented the monument to the City, and it resided in AssinIboIne Park until construction of the "Leaf Diversity Gardens" in 2017.

Then the APC Board, who lease and operate the 'Crown Jewel' of Winnipeg, started to squirm.

"While the religious monument is part of Winnipeg’s history, APC’s goal as a not for profit organization entrusted to steward Assiniboine Park and its assets is to nurture a sense of community within our Park that makes all feel welcome, accepted and comfortable to be themselves."

Are those actual people with any genuine legitimacy who need to be catered to? You'll hear about the back-and-forth as Park officials tried to unload the City asset, and the complaint APC officials filed with the advisory group about the display potentially creating a "negative impact" making the Park "less welcoming for some members of the community" if it was restored.

As Marty describes, according to the gift-givers they were first told to take it back by a group of "community leaders" who fear the anti-religion "diversity" mob more than they fear insulting the vast majority of their actual donors and users (aka traditionalists and believers in God.)

Listen to information from a City Councilor who wasn't so sure the advisory committee should have been handed the file, and about the pushback by over 1100 signatories to a petition whose organizer said “Someone needs to hold the Conservancy accountable.”

As a Hebrew school graduate, Marty airs a few strong views in Episode 35- is this an attack on not only the Christian donors of the monument but on Winnipeg's Jews and Muslims too? Do city councilors risk an embarassing outcome either way?

Hear about the "Committee of Community Members" the issue was delegated to, and the "Welcoming Winnipeg" feedback process which had a 2 week window for comment.

If a resident didn't comb the City website daily they would have had no idea of the controversy or that their opinion was (supposedly) wanted.

Now they will.

And there will be a follow-up in the next 2 weeks as more information has been received from inside City Hall, and an additional, barely-read newspaper brief about the petition drive was unearthed.

10.20 - Part 2 - Can Manitobans measure the return on investment of searching for the bodies of murder victims?

On Thursday the government of Manitoba decided the logistics of  searching the privately run Prairie Green landfill for two women who are believed to be victims of an alleged serial killer wasn't worth the risk.

A study had maintained it would cost $184 million and require 40 staff, including managers, elders and knowledge keepers, analysts, technicians and hazmat personnel. The study referenced the distress to the victims' family members and Indigenous communities if a search wasn't paid for. The AMC claimed the study outlined a safe way forward.

One Chief argued "If this was your loved one that was in the landfill, wouldn't you do everything in your power to try and bring that person home?"

After meeting with family members of the 2 victims to reveal the PC's aren't paying, Premier Stefanson and Reconciliation Minister Eileen Clarke issued a statement.

Marty breaks down the liability aspect ie "cannot knowingly risk Manitoba workers' health and safety for a search without a guarantee" of finding remains. Is that too harsh, or is it a sound judgement? The government also cited "long-term human health and safety concerns that simply cannot be ignored."

We risk lives to saves live all the time. In this case the argument is different: it gets emotional, it can be used for political leverage, and it's not saving lives this time - it's about dead people. What part of the story about their alleged killer has dropped from media coverage? Do 'human rights' factor into evaluating the demands to dig?

There's other questions to be asked and considered.

Noting the commitment to "address the many sources of violence against Indigenous women and girls", Marty thinks that after turning down this $184M project, Stefanson might consider instead tossing a mere 10% of that to prevent more murdered women being connected to the Main Street strip.

The boyfriend of the late Falin Johnston and others near the June 26 scene spoke of the fright and terror any Winnipegger walking the 4 blocks north of City Hall and crossing the street. She was apparently assaulted outdoors, and died in her room.

She had spoken up about core area danger for women.

Marty gives the brief history of the skid row subculture that has been perpetuated for 40 years and asks why these comments are ignored:

"How much money do people have to make around here … before we actually get police around here and security to protect us?"

"People call it no man's land. Nobody cares what happens to them."

Keep in mind, this mayhem spreads south towards the Exchange and Ellice Avenue.

Instead of a landfill excavation, we float a few proposals to save the living.

There are police at the Millennium Library, but the area outside the Salvation Army is currently far more dangerous. Winnipeg does not have emergency, overnight shelters, exclusively for women. Why not. It won't cost $18M.

Hear why the authorities need to change course on the 'root cause' of many violent attacks and murders in North and South Point Douglas off Main Street. Will this murder wake them up?

July 3 2023 - Why Obby Khan Must Investigate Antisemitic Athletes at University of Winnipeg Collegiate04 Jul 202300:55:54

In Episode 33, Marty Gold adds shocking new details to the story he broke in February about an incident at a basketball game on the Jewish campus in Winnipeg. The outrageous antisemitic conduct explains why there's been a cover-up by high-level "educators'' desperate to protect the University of Winnipeg Collegiate and sports administrators.

Be warned, the language allegedly used by a UW Collegiate junior varsity player about Jews was vulgar.

But it's what his teammates chanted afterwards, that the Education Department, sports officials, the Collegiate and the Gray Academy of Jewish Learning are all trying to keep secret.

Thanks to our investigative reporting, you'll hear what went on and why this scandal can become an election issue.

**  Support our investigative reporting via paypal.com/paypalme/MartyGoldMedia **

School officials lie that they're forbidden from discussing specifics because the hate was voiced by minors in Grade 9 and 10. Do antisemites have a right to such privacy? No, but still, neither school reported the incident to provincial sports officials as required.

https://www.thej.ca/2023/02/23/winnipeg-board-of-jewish-education-stonewalls-questions-about-antisemitic-incident

How bad is the apathy towards antisemitism at the UW campus? After  a bizarre Winnipeg Free Press story did not include the word 'antisemitism' and reduced the controversy to a “behavioral issue”, Belle Jarniewski, Executive Director at the Jewish Heritage Centre posted: "No classes from the UW Collegiate have registered for the Holocaust and Human Rights Symposium this year after having been a part of it for 20 years. There is no cost and the program will be virtual.”

Marty explains that's only one good reason not to let the schools 'work it out' themselves.

Another is that Canada's Antisemitism Envoy, Irwin Cotler, said it is simply unacceptable.

"Were these (UW) students themselves, disciplined? People should know and should be able to act upon it because they know about it."

"It’s a threat not only to Jews, it’s a threat to Winnipeg, it’s a threat to Canada, and we have to always combat it when we see it, not be silent in the face of it, and act collectively to combat it."

Marty reminds that Sports Minister Obby Khan said he is already involved: "I had it immediately forwarded to the department of education and justice. They are looking into it to see what will be done next.’"

https://www.thej.ca/2023/03/02/sports-minister-alerted-manitoba-justice-about-u-of-winnipeg-collegiate-antisemitism-incident/

Since Education officials and DoJ did nothing, Khan can now hand the new evidence to his own Department to act on and finally deal with antisemitism at the Collegiate.

20:11 - A New and Improved Commercial Break!

22:12 Part 2 - TGCTS reveals the offensive antisemitism of Wesmen players, what they said at the Jewish campus, and how some almost got away with it.

'Educators' like the B'nai Brith local director claim "it was dealt with" by the Collegiate and the Jew-haters were "probably reprimanded." Yet an Education Department official deflected any attempt to verify that assertion:

The department is committed ... to disrupting all forms of antisemitism in our school divisions and schools. If you have further questions or concerns within your community, I would recommend that you discuss the matter with a superintendent in your local school division.

Disrupted how? Who's the superintendent? She still won't answer - exposing her role in the cover-up.

Marty outlines the real steps 'disrupting antisemitism' in high school sports would take, and the questions about UW Collegiate and their players that Khan needs to ask.

The BB director had no concept that the Sports Minister could help protect Jewish athletes from these UW Collegiate antisemites.

"Educators"- protecting their own - want this scandal to go away - no questions, no answers.

But the ball is now in Obby Khan's court. And Jewish kids are counting on him.

Aug 9 2024- Metro Fumbles Plan20-50 Public Hearing, Forced To Retreat 09 Aug 202401:05:21

An unexpected Episode 14 tells the story of what really happened in Niverville on August 8th, when the public demanded to be heard by a shocked Winnipeg Metropolitan Region board. Interviews and audio help deliver the details about the scene.

6.10 Part 2 - Marty Gold reviews the obvious red flags and how WMR staff completely failed to prepare for the groundswell of public concern. No one should have been surprised the second hearing attracted a bigger crowd than the first one.

9.30 Don Woodstock describes the RCMP on the scene- "the organizers of this event recognized very early when the room was 3/4 full, that there was more people outside than in the room."

Hearing chants of "let them in" from those granted entry and "shut it down!" from those excluded, "I recognized this won't go away quietly" and the RCMP could not get them to leave.

13.00 - "They cannot have the meeting inside and have more people outside who want to have a voice."

Woodstock criticizes how "all the able bodied men" on the WMR board including Mayor Scott Gillingham took no action and "they let this little lady (a staff member) face that crowd and she was petrified."

Helping her address the angered crowd in the lobby he says the WMR "wanted to ram this hearing through until I insisted those people outside are not moving until we move."

17.00 - Hear audio of the announcement by WMR chair Michael Moore of the postponement of the hearing, which dispels fake news it was caused by "incidents".

23.00- While the audience was told the session would be reconvened in a larger venue and 40 days notice would be given, "nobody's making a move" to tell the 300 waiting in the lobby.

"Gillingham and all of the mayors and so-called men, if they were leaders, they would have got up and talked to them... if they didn't make a decision inside soon, that would have boiled over. "

27.30 - It was left up to Don Woodstock and Marty Gold to calm the people down. At ActionLine.ca, we show Steinbach Online video of Marty addressing them.

30.00 - "Why did none of them (think) it best to come out and address the crowd?"

Woodstock portrays the Mayor as being afraid to deal with concerned Winnipeggers, which numbered approx. 75% of those excluded- "He was the first person at the table to run away."

35.40 - Marty's theory is that the process is set up to make sure Winnipeg council is bound by Gillingham's decisions. Read his call in the Winnipeg Sun last week for Gillingham to hold a referendum at this link.

  • E-transfers, News tip, comments, email: martygoldlive@gmail.com

42.15 Part 3-- A CJOB newscast falsely claimed there were 'incidents' forcing the postponement and then host Richard Cloutier piled on.

He said texts from his stooges alleged 'there has been some disruption at this hearing by a group that wants to get all sorts of publicity, not going to give them the publicity they're looking for". Hear why that was all Fake News.

48.00 Failing to sneak the hearing past the public, a compliant media was recruited to parrot the narrative of Metro planners. Is this a harmless plan to boost job creation? They will baselessly try to smear opponents of the bylaw as rednecks, hayseeds and an extremist fringe and the planners as their all-knowing superiors.

52.00- A brief review of the fears in outlying communities- including those not yet part of the WMR club- about how the plan would infringe on their rights. Would CJOB tell their story?

54.00 Hear Patrick Allard's take away - "if they can't plan a meeting how can they plan our municipalities?"

With lockdowns making Manitobans more aware of government over-reach, he explains many believe "private entities staffed by government officials should not control municipal bylaws and zoning and planning and development." June 28 2023- Transcona BIZ Forces City Bike Lane Plan Back To The Drawing Board29 Jun 202300:46:23

In Episode 32: Exclusive details of how a third BIZ group in Winnipeg was in the dark about bike lane plans - but mounted a successful campaign to force City Hall to scrap the Regent and Day intersection re-do in downtown Transcona.

Only the TGCTS podcast exposes the unfair and slanted tricks used by the City to screw over residents, small businesses and employees in character business districts coveted by the 'active transportation' experts.

One of those procedural tricks is 'divide and conquer' - let as few people/businesses/property owners as possible know in advance of plans to cram bike lanes into commercial districts.

The system doesn't give a critical mass of potential critics a chance to develop, compare notes and evaluate common concerns. By the time the area enterprises and general public realize what's being built and how it will affect their quality of life or income, it's too late.

Members of both the Provencher and Marion business groups claim they were never given key details or opportunities for input by the consulting companies. Just like the Exchange District before them.

But in downtown Transcona, those deceptive "public consultation" tactics backfired.

With "only 12" parking spots at risk, only a select few operators nearby were notified. But the people who got the exclusive invite talked to their neighbours who also rely on those spaces for vehicles bringing customers, supplies, patients, clients and guests to the area.

On March 1, the Transcona BIZ- representing over 180 businesses- showed up at the Open House to have a frank discussion with City planners and high-paid consultants.

Listen as Marty Gold reads the post-session memo sent around by the Transcona BIZ to members, describing what went down - even the number of parking spots in question was wrong, you won't believe why.

Will the approach the Transcona organization took to defend their community be the model for the Provencher BIZ? Or, for Norwood Grove BIZ members losing 99 spots for the Moving on Marion plan?

The Transcona Biz proved that bike lanes are not always "done deals."

You can, indeed fight City Hall- which now has to explain why 3 different BIZ organizations were somehow skipped over in bike lane planning.

Corporate media newsrooms won't utter a peep about the fix being in against small businesses and neighborhood residents, so we will keep blowing the whistle, asking City Hall questions and keeping taxpayers informed about their dollars being wasted. **  Support us via paypal.com/paypalme/MartyGoldMedia **

Part 2 - Marty looks forward to the Canada Day weekend, hosting CWE Friday night wrestling in Vita and then on Saturday at the Veteran's Hall in Elie, Manitoba!

Then, our series airing concerns about St. Boniface bike lanes were circulating online - and it drew a former City Hall insider onto the record.

An online St. Boniface community group discussion was startled by claims from Ryan Palmquist, now a school trustee:

"Marion/Goulet bike lanes will be one of the most positive and transformative addtitions to the community in decades."

The former assistant to St. B. Councilor Matt Allard - who insists he isn't "anti-car" - insisted that seniors could cycle to circumvent constricting the St. Boniface Hospital district. You'll hear what Palmquist posted, the pushback he got, and the direct questions we asked that he still hasn't answered.

A cascade of evidence challenging him followed, most often from working class women in families with seniors to care for. Marty does the math on how many patients can be affected.

A Provencher business chimed in describing how the proposed bike lane set-up can put them out of business. Other characters tried to smear critics from the Provencher BIZ, to no avail.

The City undervalues and snubs our economic investors, employees and customers using local business storefronts. We Are Their Voice.

HAPPY CANADA DAY!

June 26 2023 - Winnipeg's "trusted media" stumbles / Fear of crime upticks in St. Boniface26 Jun 202300:34:58

In Part 1 of Episode 31 - why supporting the work of TGCTS is important for Winnipeg residents, voters and business owners: You can trust our findings and our reports.

As for the 'trusted media'? Well... trying to conceal that an underage teen drove the getaway car from a liquor mart robbery and rammed a cop car to evade arrest before being shot; pretending the drop in the poll numbers for Wab Kinew's NDP wasn't happening; etc. etc.

When we saw the trend line for Manitoba election polling, our listeners heard about it. ALONE in the media landscape we said this was a horserace, even if the public doesn’t really want to bet on either horse. Hear how last week's Free Press/Probe poll has led to a complete obliteration of the Free Press narrative that Premier Heather Stefanson "has been unable to move the needle in public opinion polls".

As Marty Gold explains, dismissing how "the lucky pundits predicted" a dead heat shows how out of touch corporate newsrooms are from voter reality.

To the chagrin of the newsroom experts, while tax cuts may not have been a "Top Ten" issue in voter priority polls, when 4 figure rebate cheques landed in mailboxes, it still had the desired effect of helping the cash flow of Manitobans battling inflation and pump a few more voters into the PC Party column.

14:58 Part 2 - Our crime courts and public safety analysis continues to get compliments - and important tips about danger lurking in St. Boniface around prominent area parks.

- Whether it's a group of homeless criminals running an open-air chop shop or a single suspicious creep scoping out who to victimize next, that community faces increased risks. As open drug use on residential street corners diminishes the confidence of homeowners in their safety, another emerging issue in St. B is whether violent crime in the area south of Marion Street, is being fueled by the wards of numerous group homes.

- Public revulsion towards pathologically violent teenagers was reached after the death of the 17 year old boy last week in defending his mother and sisters from a swarming mob.

- With a 14 year old boy charged with murder and a 15 year old girl charged with ADW - and about 8 other suspects still at large - the mood in Winnipeg is not on 'root causes'. In the wake of the savage attack on Graham Ave. a block from the front door of the downtown police station, Mayor Gillingham touted he had help on the way. Hear the common-sense comments from concerned citizens about the murder and about "the bleeding hearts" who refuse to acknowledge that "at 14 and 15 you’re old enough to know right from wrong and what stabbing someone can do."

- Capping off the crime round-up is yet another Level 5 offender - our longtime term for stolen car drivers who aim at cops. A woman who's been in the news before ping pong around downtown. Ever wonder how much the damage to public service vehicles - it isn't just cop cars - and lost injury time is costing us?

COMING SOON: It's Assiniboine Avenue in 2010 all over again. The City has put the screws to ordinary residents and business owners from Arlington to Archibald- and as we've learned, to health care employees and patients and visitors.

No one else has reported the extensive tension being caused yet again, by the City of Winnipeg engaging in deceptive, slanted "public consultations" for bike lanes. Our next follow-up will reveal there's a 3rd local business zone battling biased "bike lane processes."

We don't just talk about something, we DO something about it. By shining a light on the hidden facts and details, YOU have the power to fight back.

June 23 2023 - Provencher BIZ Calls for "A United Front" to Halt Bike Lane Plan; Will Norwood Grove BIZ Follow Suit?23 Jun 202300:36:19

Only days before an Open House to promote a bike lane planned from the Forks through the French Quarter, a city official received a notice distributed by the area BIZ wanting City Hall to slam on the brakes.

In an exclusive report, Marty Gold reads their entire statement alleging that Provencher stakeholders faced a rigged public consultation process in St. Boniface. (Quel coincidence, Marty suggests.)

"Act Now to Preserve Provencher Boulevard's Charm and Support Local Businesses", members were told.

"The Provencher Boulevard Business Improvement Zone (BIZ) Board of Directors has serious concerns about this proposal and firmly believes that a pause in the process is necessary to allow for more comprehensive consultations with the local businesses, such as yours."

Echoing the experience of retailers and service providers with the Moving on Marion fiasco, the statement revealed, "To date, the local businesses along Provencher Boulevard, including yours, have not been adequately consulted in the decision-making process."

The memo explained: "The proposed bike route raises several concerns, which we believe must be addressed before any irreversible changes are made... These changes would not only have a direct impact on the visual appeal and accessibility of Provencher Boulevard but also jeopardize the historical placement that has made it an iconic part of our community."

Challenging the City again kow-towing to the bike lobby, the BIZ upped the ante:

"a project of this magnitude, with potential ramifications for parking availability, green spaces, and the overall boulevard aesthetics, should not proceed without ensuring the input and feedback from the very businesses that contribute to the unique character of our community."

"Your voice matters, and together we can make a difference", the memo stated, urging members to tell St. Boniface Councilor Matt Allard to "support a comprehensive consultation process with local businesses and urge him to explore alternative solutions, such as integrating bike lanes into side streets..."

"In line with our commitment to preserving Provencher Boulevard's legacy, the Provencher Blvd BIZ Board of Directors proposes an alternative solution: bike lanes should be integrated into the side streets surrounding the boulevard... We firmly believe that this solution strikes a balance between promoting sustainable transportation and preserving the heritage and vitality of our local business community... Together, let's protect our community, support local businesses, and ensure a vibrant and prosperous future for Provencher Blvd."

9:24 - Episode 30 Part 2 - Marty was at the 'St. Boniface to Downtown Walk Bike Project' Open House held Thursday.

As he anticipated, City staff and consultants made several crucial plan details available to the public about the Provencher scheme, but corresponding details for the Marion concept were hidden at the Open House in March. A city official reacted to the difference in transparency between the projects, and to an official statement TGCTS received from St. Boniface Hospital that "we did not make any submission to the city on either of these projects."

As it turns out, City officials may have misled themselves into A) thinking a group they met with represented Hospital district residents, which it does not, and B) thinking the Hospital and 400 Tache medical building were properly informed about potential negative consequences of both bike lane proposals.

The good news is, someone inside City Hall is now listening to the urgent concerns of Hospital district residents and Norwood Grove businesses.

The bad news is, it still isn't Coun. Matt Allard- who's now on the political hotseat, sitting on the boards of 2 BIZ groups that oppose pet projects he launched as Public Works chair.

Coming next: A third Winnipeg BIZ got shafted by bike lane planners- but fought back.
