| SFX Make-Up Artist Bill Hunt (Jason Goes to Hell/Lord of the Rings Trilogy) | 30 Aug 2024 | 01:15:59 | |
The next sequel we will be discussing is "Wes Craven's New Nightmare". For it, I chatted with SFX Make-Up Artist Bill Hunt. Bill talked about growing up outside of Nashville and how going to the movies like Jaws and King Kong at a young age with his parents, reading Fangoria Magazine at the newsstand, Howard Berger, Dick Smith's Advice, Jason Goes to Hell, New Zealand, and more. Tom Parsons was a local make-up artist in Nashville who helped out Bill at the age of 13 and was an important part of Bill's journey. I loved Bill's journey and his passion for life. | Rambo III | 28 Jun 2024 | 01:28:59
This week we are talking "Rambo III". This is the Rambo sequel that jumps the shark with Rambo delivering one-liners and having a sense of humor, which is far from the original. This sequel gave us no subtitles, showed us how horrible Troutman was, some great action, a tank vs a plane, and more. Watch the unedited review at sequelsonly.com/Rambo3 The next sequel we are discussing is "The Trial of the Incredible Hulk." For It, I chatted with Actor Mark Acheson. Mark talked about growing up in Canada and how the acting bug bit him, his voice-over work, his memorable mail room scene in "Elf", and a ton more. The next sequel we are reviewing is "Return of the Killer Tomatoes” and for it, I interviewed Cinematographer and Camera Operator Stephen Andrich. Stephen talked about how he went from shooting college sports to landing a gig with the NFL, it is an awesome story. | The Purge Anarchy | 15 Sep 2022 | 01:34:37
This week we are talking "The Purge Anarchy" which was a movie sequel that we didn't expect (because for some reason we that it was over-the-top gorey). This movie had some dreaming of more Frank Grillo-led action flicks because if he was around in the 80s/90s at this age, he would've led so many action flicks. The Purge Anarchy had us discussing the odd rules of the purge, how you find your purge posse, who cleans the dead bodies, better ways to hide in your home, and lots more. This is a video review you can watch at sequelsonly.com/purgeanarchy The next sequel that will be discussed is The Return of the Killer Tomatoes. This movie had me interviewing the cinematographer from it Stephen Andrich who had some fond memories of working on this one with George Clooney. Then Stephen's career changed gears and he worked for NFL Films and actually lived in New Jersey when he did. Stephen's recent camera credits include Cobra Kai, The Walking Dead, Leverage, and more. I loved the origin story of his start in working for the NFL, one of those right-place-right-time stories for sure. | Actor Jasper Cole (Macgruber/Hansel & Gretel) | 08 Sep 2022 | 01:30:20
The next sequel we are reviewing is "The Purge: Anarchy” and for it, I interviewed an actor who knows a thing about playing a bad guy in Actor Jasper Cole. Jasper's career spans over 40 years, which is insane and a testament to his passion for his craft. Jasper talked about being in Jason Takes Manhattan, working with Dee Wallace, finding his niche as a bad guy, and lots more. Jasper plays a bad guy but is the nicest guy ever and you will love him. | Re-Release: A Nightmare on Elm Street 4 The Dream Master | 01 Sep 2022 | 01:01:01
This is our last Re-Release and it is quite the goodie. We are so excited to finally have the chance to dip our toes into the pool of Nightmare on Elm Street sequels and no better place to start than with Part 4 The Dream Master. We talked broke down all the iconic kills, Freddy's one-liners, how they get rid of the dream warriors pretty quick, Alice's amazing character transformation, and of course the karate fight involving "invisible" Freddy. We couldn't discuss a horror legend with just the two of us, so we are joined by Amy Koto to help break it down. This is a video review you can watch at sequelsonly.com/noes4 Amy's Links: Twitter @TV_Fanatic_Girl Blog: https://t.co/QOt3SyikPi?amp=1 Her Book: https://t.co/GznaCl861w?amp=1 The next sequel that will be discussed is The Purge Anarchy. This is the only Purge movie I have seen in the series and man it had an awesome cast. Frank Grillo, Carmen Elojo, and the late Michael Kenneth Williams. It wasn't what I was expecting and loved it. For it, I chatted with Actor Jasper Cole. Jasper has been an actor for years and is now the go-to bad guy that you have seen in "MacGruber" and so much more. Jasper was a sketch performer for The Tonight Show w/ Jay Leno, was in Jason Takes Manhattan, and has had guest spots on classics like "Married w/ Children", "Everybody Hates Chris", and more. This week's Re-Release has us looking back at the time we welcomed a Horror legend and one of Doug's favorite final girls in horror history, actress Lisa Wilcox. Lisa starred as "Alice Johnson" in A Nightmare on Elm Street 4 & 5. We talked about her falling on stage in junior high doing a play, moving to California for High School, John Stamos, Freddy Krueger, Brady Bunch, Star Trek, and lots more. I love hearing about moments when folks get discovered and Lisa's is one of my favorites so far. Lisa's IMDb https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0928244/ I know I wrote this two weeks ago, BUTTT this should be our last Re-Release sequel lovers, my son is due to come home soon, so then Jamie and I will be back on our sequel-watching adventure. | Re-Release: Mad Max 2 aka The Road Warrior | 18 Aug 2022 | 01:13:09
This week's sequel has us traveling to a dystopian future where a young Mel Gibson (Mad Max) will do just about anything for gasoline. This movie has an all-star cast with Mel Gibson and Vernon Wells. We, of course, talked about Jason Voorhees sorry I mean Lord Humongous, Feral Kid (What the hell was he), us both falling head over heels for Warrior Woman, how insane Vernon Wells is in this movie, and lots more. Mad Max 2 was our highest Rotten Tomatoes score yet at 93%. This is also available to watch in video form (Doug has an epic costume of a Mad Max 2 character) here sequelsonly.com/madmax2 Next up is our last Re-Release before my son, fingers crossed, comes home. | Re-Release: Actor Vernon Wells (Commando/Mad Max 2/Innerspace) | 11 Aug 2022 | 01:04:16
When it comes to movies you aren't supposed to be rooting for the bad guy, but how could I not root for this week's guest Vernon Wells? Vernon played legendary bad guys in Mad Max 2 as Wez and in Commando as Bennett. Vernon has quite the origin story because he had ZERO interest in being on camera, he wanted to be behind it. Luckily a director stuck him front and center, the rest is history. Of course, we talked about Weird Science, Joel Silver, Arnold Schwarzenegger, his start in acting, his love for being behind the camera, and so much more. We talked about Commando a lot because his role as the villain Bennett is quite legendary to Jamie and me. Enjoy this amazing chat This is a video interview you can watch at sequelsonly.com/vernonwells. This should be our last Re-Release sequel lovers, my son is due to come home soon, so then Jamie and I will be back on our sequel-watching adventure. Watch Mad Max 2 on HBO Max. Enjoy this week's Re-Release of Jaws 2. Not too much longer til new episodes are out for your earholes to enjoy. This week we are talking "Jaws 2". "Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water...." is the perfect tagline for the 1978 sequel to Jaws because this shark is on a mission in this one. Jamie sees a lot of similarities between the shark and Jason Voorhees and Doug couldn't get over how bad the teens were at sailboating. Also, you were in for a treat when the actor who plays the Mayor is on the poster. This week we are talking "Friday the 13th A New Beginning" which is one of the most controversial of the series and a lightning rod for opinions from fans. This is our 6th Friday the 13th and we had a blast discussing it. We talked about some of the behind the scene nuggets we read about, our dream of a prequel about Ethel and JR, those damn enchiladas, Violet's dance moves, THAT ending, and so much more. This is a video review you can watch at sequelsonly.com/F13part5 The next sequel that will be discussed is The Purge Anarchy. The next sequel we are reviewing is "Friday the 13th A New Beginning” and for it, I interviewed our first final girl from the franchise, Actress Melanie Kinnaman who played "Pam Roberts". Melanie talked about her journey to being a final girl that started in western Massachusetts with a stop along in NYC where she was a dancer and then started acting in plays. She even played "Cheryl Ladd" in a Saturday Night Live sketch about the "Battle of the Network Stars" back in the late 70s then landed a role on General Hospital followed by some commercial work. | Piranha II The Spawning | 07 Jul 2022 | 01:32:43
This week we are talking "Piranha II The Spawning" and this just so happens to be our second James Cameron-directed flick this year... YEP, James Cameron directed this one, well 75% of it until he was fired for taking too many shots. For this one, we brought back our buddy Nick, who has helped us make sense of Munchie, Ghoulies, and more. Nick came prepared with some behind the scene stories and even noticed some parts of Piranha II that would show up in later James Cameron flicks. Piranha II had us discussing flying fish, boating a boat, an odd relationship with Anne and her son, dynamite fishing, and more. This is a video review you can watch at sequelsonly.com/Piranha2 The next sequel that will be discussed is a Friday the 13th even though we don't have any more Friday the 13ths this year and we are doing Part V: A New Beginning. This movie is the Halloween III of the Jason Voorhees saga because it tried something new that a lot of fans love and hate, it's quite the lightning rod. I was lucky enough to interview the Final Girl from it, our 1st Friday the 13th Survivor, Pam Roberts herself actress Melanie Kinnaman. Melanie talked about growing up in Boston, becoming a dancer in NYC, doing broadway and off broadway, her big-time commercials she did, landing Friday the 13th, a wild story about "Best of the Best", and more. I loved talking to Melanie about her career and we had a lot of laughs. | Actress & Singer Carole Davis (Mannequin/Piranha II/The Flamingo Kid) | 30 Jun 2022 | 01:17:12
The next sequel we are reviewing is "Piranha II: The Spawning” and for it, I interviewed Actress, Singer, and Activist Carole Davis. Carole grew up with her first love of singing where she was singing all over the world, but then after going to an audition just to support a friend, she was called in to audition and got it. The movie didn't matter because she chose most of her roles based on where they were being shot. Carole was in so many great movies like Mannequin, The Flamingo Kid, The Shrimp on the Barbie, and more. But, I also enjoyed hearing about her singing career which includes stories involving Prince, getting the job as singing the end credit song for "Love Potion no. 9" (I linked it below for you to listen to because it's awesome), and more. | The Last Sharknado: It's About Time | 23 Jun 2022 | 01:48:52
This week we are talking "The Last Sharknado: It's About Time" which I went thinking this was the 3rd film in the series, but sadly mistaken. This is a sequel that took a sorta joke and turned it into a franchise that people love, Jamie not so much. We discussed the main plot of the movie is wrong, the time traveling, the many borrowed movie quotes, Dee Snider crushing it, and so much more. These sharknados seem to follow Fin and the gang, but you be the judge. This is a video review you can watch at sequelsonly.com/Sharknado6 The next sequel that will be discussed next is "Piranha II: The Spawning" which is directed by James Cameron. This movie got me the chance to chat with an actress who we loved in Mannequin and The Flamingo Kid, Actress Carole Davis. Carole talked about how she sorta accidentally got into acting, her amazing singing career that includes singing the end title credits for "Love Potion no. 9" starring Sandra Bullock plus a story involving Prince that you'll have to hear to believe. Patrick and I connected on Twitter when I was talking about his character from a sequel we covered a few months back in "Ghoulies go to College" and he replied! | Escape from LA | 09 Jun 2022 | 01:33:44
This week we are talking "Escape from LA" which we wanted to love because the cast is top notch; Russell, Keach, Buscemi, and more, but unfortunately we did not. There were a lot of similarities between the 1st one and a lot of oddities that Carpenter believed 2013 would look like, so we had our action sequel expert Andrew Powers help us break it down. We discussed Peter Fonda surfing, basketball to the death, Jose Cuervo Jones, the president's daughter stealing Air Force 3, the odd value of a dollar, and more. I wish we got the Escape from Cleveland they mentioned A TON of times in this film. This is a video review you can watch at sequelsonly.com/EscapefromLA The next sequel that will be discussed next is "The Last Sharknado: It's About Time" and for it, we chatted with Actor Patrick Labyorteaux. | Mannequin 2: On the Move | 02 Jun 2022 | 01:49:38
This week, we discuss "Mannequin 2: On the Move", which is honestly one of the best sequels we've covered this year. This movie has the perfect 80s/90s feel to it and a great cast that has a young Kristy Swanson, William Ragsdale, Stuart Pankin, Meshach Taylor,, and Terry Kiser absolutely CRUSHING IT! Does this movie have plot holes? Yes, it's like swiss cheese, but it doesn't even matter because it is still hilarious. We discuss kissing mannequins, sexy vs sporty perfume, broadway shows put on by a department store, the german Three Stooges, and more. This is a video review you can watch at sequelsonly.com/Mannequin2 Next up is our review "Escape from LA" where we discuss a movie where basketball can be life or death and that's not a metaphor. The next sequel we are reviewing is "Escape From LA” and for it, I interviewed legendary character actor Peter Jason. Peter said he was a jock in high school and was convinced by a girl to try out for school play and HE GOT IT, from that moment on he did every play he could. Peter talked about how he worked with John Wayne, John Carpenter, the spiders in Arachnophobia, shooting commercials in New Jersey in the 70s, landing Deadwood, and more. | Actor Stuart Pankin (Arachnophobia/Dinosaurs/Mannequin Two) | 19 May 2022 | 00:59:31
The next sequel we are reviewing is "Mannequin Two” which is happening because I interviewed an actor who I absolutely love in Stuart Pankin. Stuart started his journey because he loved hamming it up at his family dinners growing up in Philadelphia. We talked about how he landed his 1st job in Hollywood which involves him singing a parody song with Kevin Kline playing piano, so cool. Stuart is hilarious on-screen and off because he had me cracking up a lot during this chat. Stuart has a new movie out on VOD 5/31 called "Deep in the Forest" (link to the trailer below) This is a video interview you can watch at sequelsonly.com/stuartpankin Links mentioned in this episode: "Deep in the Forest" Trailer link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdV7us5FQvg "Deep in the Forest" will be available VOD on 5/31 Stuart's IMDb https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0659573/ Next up is "Mannequin Two" in two weeks, the movie is free on Tubi. | Jason X | 12 May 2022 | 01:35:49
This week, we discuss "Jason X" aka Jason Goes to Space. It's Friday the 13th this week, so we are required by sequel law to review one and we picked a doozy. I admittedly never gave this one an honest chance when I rented it at 15 years old, but I had a lot of fun 20 years later. We discussed the reason this movie is set in the future, possible other plots for future installments, the terrible professor, nano spiders, the epic kills, and more. This is a video review you can watch at sequelsonly.com/JasonX The next two weeks are back-to-back interviews with two AMAZING actors who I grew up on, Stuart Pankin and Peter Jason. They are both in a new film that premieres VOD on 5/31 called "Deep in the Forest". See the trailer at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdV7us5FQvg Stuart Pankin is an actor who grew up in Philadelphia and went on to be in all your favorite tv and movies growing up like The Dirt Bike Kid, Mannequin 2 (which we are covering), Arachnophobia, Not Necessarily the News, Knots Landing, the voice of Earl Sinclair on The Dinosaurs, and more. Stuart was a hoot and loved talking about how his journey to Hollywood began. Peter Jason is an actor who has worked with everyone from John Wayne to Spielberg to Donald Pleasance to James Garner and he loves talking about the old Hollywood. If it wasn't for a girl he had a crush on senior year, he would have never tried out for the school play and it was instant love. Peter's credits include They Live, Gunsmoke, Deadwood, Arachnophobia, Escape from LA(which we are covering), Baskets, and more. Peter and Stuart became dear friends on the set of Arachnophobia and have been buddies ever since. The next sequel we are reviewing is "Jason X” and that has given me the chance to interview Script Supervisor Daniela Saioni, who is the 1st script supervisor I have ever chatted with. Daniela is from Toronto and had an interesting journey to becoming an internationally known script supervisor which was inspired by Jim Morrison, started with a job in editing, Boondock Saints, and so much more. I loved picking her brain about what a script supervisor does and IT IS A LOT. Great chat. | The Predator 2018 | 28 Apr 2022 | 02:00:19
This week we are discussing "The Predator" from 2018 which gave us a lot to discuss. This movie had so many plots that we had to bring back our horror sequel expert Chris Egan for an eighth time to break it all down. We discussed the tropey bullies who say "juicy ass burger", the many different Predators, the use of medical disorders for low brow humor, Jacob Trembley outkilling The Predator, and more. This is a video review you can watch at sequelsonly.com/ThePredator The next sequel that will be discussed next is a Friday the 13th, but we don't know which one yet. | Actor and Voice Actor Garry Chalk(Freddy vs Jason/The Fly II/Transformers) | 21 Apr 2022 | 01:23:27
The next sequel we are reviewing is "The Predator” and I am interviewing an actor who I have in so much over the years in Garry Chalk like "The Fly II", "Freddy vs Jason", "Stargate SG-1", and more. Plus, Garry's voice credits include so many of my childhood favorites like "Camp Candy", "GI Joe", "Transformers", "Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog", and more. I loved that Garry only pursued a career in acting because of a stock market crash and that made him leave finance. I loved hearing about how "The Fly II" and the role of "Scorby" was a turning point in his career. Garry also talked about how voice acting started, Freddy vs Jason, Charles Bronson, taking care of his fans, and more. Great chat. | Major League Back to the Minors | 14 Apr 2022 | 01:41:48
Playball! Baseball is back and to celebrate, we are discussing "Major League Back to the Minors". This movie turns the reigns of the franchise over to Scott Bakula, who is aging minor league pitcher Gus Cantrell. This sequel had a lot for us to discuss like the switch from the Indians to the Twins, Ted McGinley's insane portrayal of "Huff", the confusion that a AAA team is signing aging veterans off the street (and from his mini-golf course), why tennis comedies wouldn't work, the lack of players with names, and more. Scott Bakula and Ted McGinley have such a rivalry in this movie kinda like Jamie and me while discussing this one. This is a video review you can watch at sequelsonly.com/MajorLeague3 The next sequel that will be discussed next is "The Predator". For this sequel, I interviewed actor and voice actor Garry Chalk. Garry is someone who I KNOW you have heard over the years or have seen because he has over 400 credits. Garry's acting career took off after his role of "Scorby" in "The Fly II" and from there he went on to be in Freddy vs Jason, Superbabies: Baby Geniuses II, The Sea Wolf w/ Charles Bronson, and lots more. Plus he's lent his voice to The New Adventures of He-Man, Reboot, Sonic the Hedgehog, Megaman, and a ton more. Great chat about his career and so many great memories that he shared with me. The next sequel we are reviewing is "Major League: Back to the Minors” in honor of baseball season starting. I had the pleasure of interviewing Cinematographer Charles Papert who worked as a Steadicam operator on "Major League: Back to the Minors" and it was his 1st big studio movie. Once Charles had his mind on a career in film, he was determined and you will hear a story that shows that. Charles was a Steadicam operator on "American History X", "Office Space", and more. Then he went on to be the Cinematographer on "Scrubs", "Key & Peele", "Kenan", and lots more. Great chat that includes my dad's favorite song Foreigner's "Urgent". | Aliens | 31 Mar 2022 | 01:59:10
This week we are discussing one of the greatest sequels of all time "Aliens". This movie has quite the cast and the SFX still holds up 36 years later. We discuss if Ripley is a villain, Doug's possible dislike of cats, the odd 57-year-old grudge, aliens using an elevator, and so much more. So happy to have finally covered this legendary sequel. For this sequel, I interviewed Steadicam operator and cinematographer Charles Papert. Major League 3 was his 1st studio movie and he showed me some amazing behind the scene photos he took from it. Charles talked about how he left NYU because he was impatient, was on the set of Ghostbusters for a day, American History X, Key & Peele, playing saxophone, and more. | Actor Ricco Ross (Aliens/Death Wish 3) | 24 Mar 2022 | 01:26:23
The next sequel we are reviewing is "Aliens”, which is on our "Mt. Rushmore" of movie sequels and I was lucky enough to interview Actor Ricco Ross about his career. Ricco played "Private Frost" in the movie and had so many great behind the scene tidbits to tell plus we talked about his role of "The Cuban" in "Death Wish 3". I loved Ricco's origin story and how a teacher during his freshman year of high school pushed him to do the school play, which led to an amazing career. Ricco had stories about Ken Wahl, Lee Marvin, Charles Bronson, Stanley Kubrick, James Cameron, Whitney Houston, and more. Awesome chat! | Ghoulies Go To College | 17 Mar 2022 | 02:06:39
This week we are discussing "Ghoulies Go To College" in honor of college spring break and wow does this movie deliver on the craziness because this is the 1st installment that has the Ghoulies speaking. We brought back Nick, who is our creature expert, to help us break this one down. We discussed the difference between "a Prank, a Yank, and a Crank", the actor who voices the cat Ghoulie, the Billy Zabka-like villain, the creepy security guard, and more. PANCAKE! This is a video review you can watch at sequelsonly.com/ghouliesGTC The next sequel that will be discussed next is "Aliens ", which is on the Mt. Rushmore of movie sequels. I was lucky enough to interview Ricco Ross who played Frost. Ricco and I 1st connected when we were doing the "Death Wish 3" reunion for Charles Bronson's 100th birthday, but he had something come up, but we did it. Ricco is an actor, who during his first year out of college he booked reoccurring roles on "Hill St. Blues" & "The Young & the Restless". Soon afterward, feeling type-cast, he decided to study Shakespeare for a year in England at the London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art (LAMDA). That year turned into 13 years of living abroad. There he got "Dirty Dozen 2" and became friends with Ken Wahl (great story about Ken), "Death Wish 3", "Aliens", and actually got "Full Metal Jacket", but that’s a story you gotta hear. Great chat. | The Hangover Part III | 03 Mar 2022 | 01:44:57
This week we are discussing "The Hangover Part III" and this is the conclusion to one of the funniest comedy franchises ever that elevated the 3 actors to stardom, individually in their own way. This movie needed to figure out a way to finish a franchise, which is hard to do, but they perfectly had some great callbacks to the first two films and introduced John Goodman as the villain. We discussed Alan's love for Phil, "Fluffers, Buffers, and Farters", Chow becoming an action star, and so much more. This is a video review you can watch at sequelsonly.com/hangover3 The next sequel that will be discussed next is "Ghoulies Go to College " in honor of college spring break. Ronn is most known for his work on the 1st season of "The Shield" and "The Mist", but his credits are full of some great projects. I loved Ronn's origin story and also so amazing that former guest Steven Poster is part of Ronn's journey.
