#170 Benefits of ACTING VS. TELLING: Marketing Rule #1 with Karen Grosz30 Jun 202400:41:11
What do you do when you feel called to do something? Use Karen's mantra to keep you marketing instead of stalling!
#80 What the last 3 years has taught me about my #1 value proposition for Fempreneurs13 Jan 202200:11:25

The best thing I ever did to boost my credibility and income was write a book. It changed my life for so many reasons, and the top 3 are:

  1. I immediately became more confident in my skills and what I stand for.
  2. My message became clear to anyone who researched me on the internet (this is also due to a VERY NICHE book title: Money & The 39 Forever Mom).
  3. Others viewed me as a more credible source when comparing me to others in my field who had not written a book. This landed me more of my dream clients, an international speaking gig and many other exciting and profitable opportunities.

In this episode, I'll share where I want to take all of you beautiful, talented Fempreneurs in 2022 as I lean into my key value proposition.

All the events mentioned and more can be found here: yycfempreneurs.com/events!

#78 Part One: Lyndsie's Top 20 List - what I wish I'd done first and faster to build my business and brand!21 Dec 202100:33:12

Here is a TEASER of the next free gift I'll be sending to all YYC Fempreneurs on January 12th, 2022 - a PDF copy of my Top 20 list with clickable links to all these goodies and more...

Lyndsie's Top 20 List for 2022

1. Get into a group coaching program led by someone who has proof in the pudding - someone who has achieved things you want to achieve.

Other important factors:

 - Make sure there is also some one-on-one coaching included with the leader as well as interaction with the other group members.

 - If you don’t pay money for the coaching program, there’s a good chance you won’t work as hard

Check out the 90 Day Leadership & Marketing Program for Fempreneurs, led by me, at www.yycfempreneurs.com/program

2. Fees - they are a cost of doing business. Get over it. You are losing money and credibility the longer you wait to set up your online payment infrastructure. Do it today at www.stripe.com

Note: you do not pay a monthly or annual fee to have a payment system at www.stripe.com (similar to www.paypal.com, but better, in my opinion) or at www.squareup.com. You will only pay a small fee each time you process a transaction, meaning unless you get paid, you don’t pay a fee. Fair, right?

What I love most about Stripe and SquareUp (I use both) is that you can send a payment link via text or instant message, plus you can embed that same link in a button or image on your website, so you can get paid while you’re sleeping or walking your dog. You can also add the *FREE* SquareUp booking/appointments feature to your profile and voila - people can book either free or paid meetings with you anytime! If you want to see this live in action, go to www.yycfempreneurs.com/schedule.

3. You need a website. Saying you aren’t ready for a website means you are either playing small, meaning you don’t plan on your business and income growing rapidly and steadily in 2022, or you don’t realize how inexpensive a website plan is. Here are the steps to setting up your fabulous website set up and making sure your message is crystal clear:

*BONUS* Website Essentials

(This is a little taste of what’s in the new 90-Day Planner *and Program* I created for you - everything you need to grow your community TONS in 2022…)

Your website MUST have the following six components on the home page - each of these is or is followed by a link to TAKE ACTION:

  1. FREE WELCOME GIFT. This could also be a link to a free event, specifically, the sign up page/landing page where they enter their information to be added to the guest list. For FREE landing pages, I use www.mailchimp.com.
  2. WELCOME VIDEO. This is you introducing yourself and explaining how they can get the most from what you have to offer and your community in five minutes or less.
  3. TESTIMONIAL VIDEO OR QUOTE. Let your happy customers do the marketing for you!
  4. CONTACT. This is simply a form where they can ask a question or request a meeting with you.
  5. LOW PRICE OFFER.
  6. MEDIUM-HIGH PRICE OFFER.

***All of these should be tabs as well. If this doesn’t make sense, have a look at my homepage: www.yycfempreneurs.com

4. Listen To Podcasts! These are the two that I wish I would have started listening to loooong before I did:

The Tim Ferriss Show

Smart Passive Income (Pat Flynn)

You can find two of my favourite books, one by Tim Ferriss and the other by Pat Flynn, and all my other favourite books, at www.yycfempreneurs.com/goodreads

5. Take Podcast Breaks. Pay attention to when you are feeling like your to-do list is long enough and choose to NOT be inspired by the latest podcast episode by your favourite host- yes, this includes the Fempreneur Marketing Podcast!!

I’ve been on a Podcast Break for over a month now (other than listening to the Joe Rogan Experience with my son, of course!) because it has been very clear to me for a while now I have so much stuff to share with y’all - tons of valuable PROVEN EFFECTIVE strategies and steps I want all of you reading this to learn and implement. This Podcast Break served all of you well because it became the 90-Day Leadership + Marketing Planner for Fempreneurs - 265 pages of very clear and pacific action steps that I pulled from what’s worked for me. The planner then became the new 90-Day Program for Fempreneurs who want to grow their community & income. Now the Journal is underway and will be ready for your journaling pleasure (with BONUS weekly accelerator exercises) on or shortly after January 1st 2022!

Trust me, do not give in to FOMO when it comes to taking on new knowledge when there is SO MUCH AWESOMENESS already on your to-do list. Switch from a mix of input and output mode to STRICTLY OUTPUT MODE for at least 3 weeks every 90 days. Your community and income will grow, as long as you keep sharing with all of us (your followers and fans) what you’re cooking up before it’s ready!!

Another example of what’s happening in early 2022, as I continue on my output-only path, is the new Reality TV Show, which will be called something awesome, of course including the word “Fempreneurs”!!! (Stay tuned by staying on the community email list! Sign up at www.yycfempreneurs.com/member.)

6. Write a book. It doesn’t have to be an actual 300+ page book. It does need to be about a 100-120 page guidebook or workbook. Having a book for sale on Amazon is a HUGE credibility booster. It’s not even fair or right how much it will boost your credibility. What is truly magical, even more magical than how others will view you, is:

ONCE YOU HAVE A BOOK ON AMAZON, YOUR CONFIDENCE LEVEL WILL RISE. NOT A LITTLE BIT - A LOT.

That’s why I took my proven marketing education system - Fempreneur Marketing School - and combined it with my ability to help Fempreneurs write and self-publish a book (I have helped three women do this as of December 2021, plus I've put 5 of my own books on Amazon!), to offer you the 90-Day Leadership and Marketing Program (if the January 12th program is in the past by the time you're reading this, the next one will be here: yycfempreneurs.com/program.) It will be an intense 90 days, but you will achieve more than you ever thought possible and you’ll do it with8 other Fempreneurs by your side, cheering you on.

Check out these books by three of my FemAuthor Grads:

  1. How To Get Out Of An Abusive Relationship With Yourself by Carey Wilkinson Lee
  2. The Unexpected Entrepreneur by Noreen Music
  3. Don’t Stay A Secret by Felicia Yap

7. Document your life -

THAT’S IT! YES, THAT'S THE END OF  THE TEASER!!

#77 A Powerlifter + Personal Trainer with a unique ability: Marilyn Vrooman-Robertson14 Dec 202100:35:17

Many of the best businesses begin without a plan to start a business. Often a servant role chooses you. Marilyn's is one of those stories.

If your business is one that was born from an accident or illness that caused you to re-work your life plan, this episode has many gold nuggets for you. My guest today is Marilyn Vrooman-Robertson, a Calgary Alberta start up success story. Her clientele is growing as her online presence grows because she is driven by a strong purpose and a unique ability: to show people who want to get back into exercising after an injury how its done.

Marilyn is the right mix of gritty and gentle, and I know her stories and success strategies will change the way you look at marketing and being the best servant you can be.

#76 How Olympic Snowboarder Charmaine Ironside built one of Calgary's Top Fitness Communities06 Dec 202100:49:41

Charmaine hates admitting this, because she still receives so many messages from her brick-and-mortar gym clients, but she is loving her life more nowadays. Since closing both her gym locations in Calgary, Alberta, Charmaine's life is simple and fun, because she now runs a simple and fun online business.

Her number one priority is her family. Her new online business has been constructed in a way that will always allow her to put her family first.

In this episode, Charmaine admits it still breaks her heart to read messages from past clients who still haven't found a community like Ironside Fitness. So many friendships began there. However, she admits leading her community left her feeling too busy day after day - for over seven years! She had two gym locations in Calgary. She was a workaholic. She was missing out on getting to know her children. Because she was such a proud person, she would NEVER have walked away.

If you need to hear a positive story about the changes of 2020, and gain some direction and ideas for your own business, dive into this episode ASAP and follow Charmaine on Instagram: @charmaine.ironside

#73 Real Money Talk with Lyndsie & The Best Way to Increase Your Income04 Nov 202100:11:57

What does your dream business look like? And what's holding you back from getting there?

I bet at least one of your top 3 roadblocks is MONEY.

In this episode I put my Financial Consultant hat on and share the steps I walk my financial clients through who are ready to take a long, hard look at what's really going on with their money and why they keep seeing the same patterns repeated.

In the second half of this episode, I'll share with you the best way to increase your income - something that has worked for me and many other Fempreneurs. I'll give you a hint: It's something you can build in 3-6 months.

#72 Your Greatest Challenges Revealed: Don't Keep These Stories Hidden, Woman!27 Oct 202100:11:25

Think of a time when you felt defeated. Or think back to a period of your life, perhaps it lasted a few years, when you were believing a lie. My challenge to you is to write  a few of these stories down and identify the root theme or key lesson in each story.

Here's an excerpt from my new 90 day planner (now available on Amazon - click here to check it out!).  This part comes right after I share the story of my business coach who broke my trust, lied to me and tried to throw me under the bus...

What I learned:

I learned how to structure contracts when bringing in other experts to work on a client case, minimizing the chances of someone I invite to join the team pushing me out. I learned that sometimes people will break my trust. I learned to lengthen the amount of time it takes for me to trust someone. I learned that sometimes I am not a good judge of character. I learned that people who seem to like me may actually only want something from me.

What I unlearned:

Learning something from a painful experience is like building scar tissue. It’s an ugly reminder of pain you once experienced. It took a few years, but I eventually unlearned my distrustful tendencies and went back to being my trusting self. Regardless of how much more likely I am to get hurt by being a trusting person, it feels better to trust. I like myself more when I’m not guarded, when I don’t assume people who are being nice to me want to take advantage of me. I like that I don’t allow my brain to think of all the ways someone can hurt me anymore. I do still have some feelings of distrust at times, but I now recognize them and do my best to pay attention to facts rather than possibilities I create in my mind.

Every single woman you will invite into your community will have trust issues. We all have them. For some, the scar tissue is too thick and none of your welcoming strategies will work. However, most women will eventually trust you. One of the best ways to get them to trust you is by sharing your life stories. At an event, or at the beginning of any workshop or speech you give, you must tell them why you care and share a key challenge you’ve had to face to get to where you are in that moment.

Help them unlearn their distrustful habits.

Help them open up to new friendships.

Lead by example.

(End of excerpt.)

My challenge to you is to share on social media, in a video, about a time in your life that was really, really hard. If you're up for the challenge, but you need some tech help with posting your video on Instagram, send me a message. I'm here to help!

#67 Purpose Driven Marketing with Caitlin Lacey @Facebook08 Sep 202100:22:10

Caitlin Lacey has worked for Facebook for over 10 years. She currently leads the Emerging Platforms Business Marketing Team at Facebook and is a mom to two little girls. Or as Caitlin says it best in the episode, she's...

"raising strong-willed women for the next generation!"

Caitlin and I met almost a year ago at an online Facebook Boost event for female entrepreneurs. I connected with her on LinkedIn and invited her to participate in a podcast interview about what it's like to work for Facebook/Instagram in a role focused on helping business owners succeed.

When I asked Caitlin why she's so passionate about helping female entrepreneurs succeed, she shared:

"I've had really strong female leaders in my life for a very long time. Before I entered the corporate world, I worked for a restaurant in San Fransisco called Umami. It was run by men, owned by men, but they hired incredibly powerful, strong female staff members. That community of women really instilled in me this desire to help and lift other women around me. All of those women are still incredible powerhouse people. And we all just had fun together for a few years bar tending in San Fransisco. One of them has gone on to create her own business down in southern California. Watching her use Instagram and Facebook to build her community and business has been a really awesome experience - shout out to Corie!"  (@savorandswig)

* BONUS *

In this episode, Caitlin and Lyndsie share what to look for when boosting a post to grow your Facebook and/or Instagram community and much, much more juicy marketing goodness!!

#65 How to get writing your book - with Lyndsie and Jake (road trippin')26 Aug 202100:25:10

While on a road trip, Lyndsie + Jake share the Top 8 Tips to help you get your book across the finish line - ASAP!

This episode also features recordings from a recent writing workshop with Cynthia Hamilton Urquhart!

Here's a little taste of  what's coming in this episode...

TIP #7:

Don't think about the technical stuff like the

title of your book, the chapter titles and flow,

or which chapter a certain story belongs under.

JUST KEEP WRITING.

Later on, you'll start to feel the structure naturally forming.

Don't force it.

A huge shout out to my brave son for participating in the recording and sharing his words of wisdom about writing a book, which he will no doubt put to use one day! He also wrapped up the episode for us with a very excellent quote from The Office which you won't want to miss!

#62 Mountain Biking with Lyndsie: Ditch the GPS06 Aug 202100:07:29

Back when I was 17, I moved to Vancouver.

I didn't have a cell phone.

All I had to help me get around was a book map. I would get such a sense of accomplishment when I would drive somewhere, especially when I would get there by memory, without looking at my book map.

My questions to you is, what is it that's on your business to-do list that you're a little nervous about because you've never done it before?

People respect those who try more than they respect people who get it right the first time.

In this episode, you'll get a quick and punchy pep talk from me, Lyndsie Barrie, as I sweat and pedal my mountain bike  overlooking Okanagan Lake in beautiful British Columbia, Canada.

Thanks so much to all of you who have pre-ordered my third book called, We Should Be Friends. It's a book sharing all my stories of trial and error that prove my steps to building a big, happy, productive community of women actually work! If you're on a mission to serve more women and make a positive impact in a specific area of their lives, this book is for you! It will be available on Amazon August 23rd but if you pre-order it before August 23rd, you'll receive a signed copy of the book and a ticket to my book launch party being held in Calgary Alberta on October 1st, 2021! #58 A sneak peek into the new book about building community by Lyndsie Barrie06 Jul 202100:08:05

One of the most important parts of being a Fempreneur is growing a community of women.

Without that community of people who look up to you, who look to you for knowledge, who like you and trust you and want to work with you, or have worked with you in the past and refer new people to you - without all of that, you don't have a business. You don't have an income.

I understand how difficult it is to open yourself up to new people. I've been hurt, too. I'm going to help you get over your fears and show you the seven essential steps to growing your community in my new book that will be released August 23rd!

#55 "JUST KICK THE BALL!" ~Rafaela Schmitz, Evergreen Branding Photography15 Jun 202100:39:01

Rafaela really liked photography but never thought she could be a photographer.

In 2013, she took her first steps with photography professionally, shooting photos of friends' children. Still working in IT, she edited photos in the evenings and shot on weekends. "It was overwhelming at times!" she says. And then the universe took Rafaela from Brazil to Calgary. That's when she decided to dedicate her life to photography.

"I have very few photos of myself when I was growing up. My parents couldn't afford a camera." Rafaela's business is how she helps people avoid that feeling of loss.

Rafaela started Branding Photography to support local businesses and because many people asked her to use the natural and spontaneous way she works with kids for business social media and LinkedIn profiles.

When I asked Rafaela how she turned her love for photography into an actual business, she said:

"The most important thing is to be brave and kick the ball. Start the game. You learn a lot if you are already in the game."

This brings me to the Nike video I mentioned in the intro - click here to watch!

Here's to going for it!

#53 Why women in business falter and how to get moving again with Lyndsie Barrie25 May 202100:28:35

Hello Fempreneur! Lyndsie Barrie here! So happy to have the opportunity to share a little taste of my nerdy brain with you because helping you feel more confident and at peace in your business is my mission. Here's a little taste of what's to come in this episode...

"Women often say to me, I love that I can just message you and talk to you. Obviously I'm just a person but some people\ would search me up on the internet and think I'm a bigger deal than I am! But I'm not! I'm just a human who wants to hang out with other sweet, awesome ladies like me. And if you reach out to me, I'm more than happy to chat. So I think that's a big thing about email marketing that people don't understand - it's not just about getting their name and email address and having that automated email go to them with their free gift. No! You want to know where they are in the social media world because that's where you want to engage with them.

My third book, .COM UNITY, is about all those tips and tricks and things that have worked to grow a community of women who actually get to know each other and support each other."

A huge thank you to Vivian @realbizmoms for interviewing me! Hopefully I can introduce her to you soon in person at one of our upcoming hikes or YYC bike nights in Calgary Alberta! Go to fempreneurland.com/events to see the schedule - live and virtual events are what we do here in FempreneurLand!!!

I hope to see you soon on Instagram @yycfempreneurs!

What you thought was impossible or extremely difficult is possible. Where do you start making your dreams a reality? With pen and paper.

Gayathri is a mom, engineer, leader of digital innovation programs in her professional role as an engineer as well as a Board volunteer at Calgary Immigrant Women's Association. She is passionate about applying her skills and knowledge to harness our rich diversity as Canadians. #51 CTV News Anchor Felicia Yap shares how to overcome perfectionism and why she started "Reel Awesome Productions"11 May 202100:30:55

Felicia, owner of Reel Awesome Productions, began working in television when she was a teenager. Although her passion for sharing stories was strong, she still found herself exploring other options, mainly due to  "encouragement" from  family members to pursue a career in medicine. After "flip flopping" in university, she ultimately felt clear on her mission as a  news reporter sharing stories.  After completing her education SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology), Felicia got hired right out of school for her first job in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. The hardest part of starting her career was moving to a small town that wasn't ethnically diverse. It was a huge culture shock. People would ask her, why is your English so good? (Felicia grew up in Calgary.) Her next job was with CTV Regina. During the day, she worked as a production assistant and at night she was a video journalist. She actually shot all her own stories, carrying 50lbs of camera equipment, then reporting live from the studio. Whenever she was asked to try something new, like reporting the weather for the first time, Felicia said yes. Her willingness to learn new roles and tackle new challenges gave her what she feels is the number one required skill to be a successful entrepreneur: adaptability.

For twenty years, she was super focused on growing her skills as a reporter and admits she was a perfectionist. Her perfectionism kept her from seeing herself as  an entrepreneur. She was convinced starting a business was too hard. It wasn't until recently, after settling into motherhood, she realized many people want to get comfortable on camera so they can share their stories. She felt called to start Reel Awesome Productions.

#50 The Love & Lessons in Loss: Stories about Staying in the Moment and Feeling Held with Hana Mari Mäkinen04 May 202100:48:28

This episode shares valuable life experiences for anyone grieving the loss of a loved one, pet, freedom or hope. One of the stories Hana shares here is an experience with her father, who was slowly slipping away due to alzheimer's (this is something I, too, am currently dealing with). Here is part of what Hana shared:

"All I had was each moment and conversation - in the now. And there were days when some of those nows were extremely painful, but I was like, I'll deal with my emotion after. I want to give him everything I've got because I want to literally savour this moment to the depths... to create a memory.

He and I would have conversations, and I was like, Oh! There's Dad! Oh, there's his alzheimer's. Oh, there's his spirit. And I would find ways to make him laugh. I just wanted to spend time with this man who was slipping away from me and treat him with love and respect."

Other topics discussed include:

  • Pet loss
  • Openly communicating about grief
  • What is grief
  • Ways to cope with loss
  • There is no wrong way to grieve
  • How to find the beauty and joy in grief
  • Considerations for those dealing with past trauma from loss of a loved one
  • Ways to cope with and support an aging loved one

#48 Wine, Women & Well-Being's Lisa Webb shares how to turn your fears into into a thriving community20 Apr 202100:37:44

Have you ever decided to host an event? You  set up the Eventbrite page, created the Facebook event, maybe put up some posters on local bulletin boards, and all the while you're feeling...

If you're like Lisa Webb and most other women I've talked to, you are feeling a perfectly normal feeling: fear of failure.

How did Lisa go from feeling afraid that no one would show up to her first event to leading a massive female empire? Listen to this episode to learn the steps she took to create a fun and welcoming environment for thousands of women across Canada starting in 2019.

Why did Lisa feel the need to grow a community in 2019 and call it, "Wine, Women & Well-Being"?

Lisa had just become a Canadian Expat Mom after 10 years in France, Indonesia and the Congo. Now in her homeland, Calgary Alberta, she was feeling a familiar feeling: a need to surround herself with like-minded women.

After building and leaving and rebuilding her community countless times over 10 years, Lisa was up for the challenge. In this episode and in her book Becoming French, Lisa shares how she combined her community building lessons from childhood and her love for parties to build a safe, fun and welcoming place for women.

Learn all about the exciting things Lisa is working on, including a cross-Canada tour with Jess Tetu and Kaitlyn Bristowe, a new book series and her ongoing book club events at winewomenwellbeing.com!

#45 Turn Your Life Lessons into Marketing Gold with Lyndsie Barrie30 Mar 202100:41:07

In this episode, you'll get a little taste of Fempreneur Marketing School, the 6 week course I developed to help women share their talents with more of the right people on social media. Women often struggle with feeling confident and clear when it comes to their business and that's why Fempreneur Marketing School is so effective - it is an incubator/safe place for women to practice sharing their important message and receive helpful feedback from like-minded ladies.

This episode is a recording of Session 4, Storytelling. If you're still struggling with what stories to share and how to share them so you can attract more of the right people on social media, this episode is going to help you feel less tongue-tied and more confident! Introducing my favourite marketing tool...

THE 4 TYPES OF POSTS:

  1. Just for fun - share what you love, why you're grateful or anything hilarious, heartwarming and positive (can be a tear-jerker story with a happy ending!)
  2. Educate - share a little taste of what you know that will help your niche audience. Ask yourself, What challenging experiences have I been through that left me with knowledge that can help others? Share the story and the 3-5 key action steps you suggest they take.
  3. Promo Me - promote yourself. Share your why story, how you started your business and how you serve your clients. You will usually want to attach a call to action/offer in the middle and end of these stories, but not always. Sometimes you should just end it with a simple, If you think this story can help someone you care about, please share it with them!
  4. Promo others - an Instagram live interview with one of your entrepreneur friends is the best way to nail this one every time!

If we haven't met yet, my name is Lyndsie Barrie. I learned the 6 fundamentals of marketing the hard way - while writing and marketing my first book and my financial consulting business. My purpose is to help thousands of women develop viable income streams from things they love to do and turn that profit into financial stability. My six week marketing school is one of the ways I do this - check it out at fempreneurland.com/fms!

#42 Building a Confident Foundation with Sharon Hughes (Part 1 of 3)09 Mar 202100:56:56

Hi! If you're new here, I'm Lyndsie Barrie. Today I'm excited to introduce to you the one and only Sharon Hughes. Sharon and I connected thanks to a Google search that led her to one of my YouTube videos about Mailchimp (ohhhh Mailchimp, you are a beautiful and complicated beast!). Sharon looked into me and noticed there was a conference coming up in January 2021 for female entrepreneurs. Sharon, bestselling author of “The Girl In The Garage”, responded to my ask for speakers and was quickly introduced to the Fempreneur Community on Instagram Live.

After the conference, Sharon and many of the conference attendees joined FempreneurLand, an online platform where female entrepreneurs participate in weekly leadership and marketing training and connection events. Back by popular demand, Sharon taught this session to dive deeper into how to break up with your past self to build a confident foundation for your life and business. This recording is session one of three and is guaranteed to get you back in touch with your true self, your true north! It's amazing how confident we feel when we know our values and say no to things that aren't in line with those values! Sharon does a fantastic job of showing us how to do exactly that in this episode!
