Season 2 Episode 010 - Sell Out TikTok Launches with Katie @ Katharina Lou
Season 2 · Episode 10
mardi 12 décembre 2023 • Duration 47:57
Welcome to another episode of The Fashion Brand Clinic with me, Elizabeth Stiles!
KT Mildren launched ‘Katharina Lou,’ her fashion business in 2021 after having lots of spare time (& creative ideas!) in lockdown.
Since then she has grown a cool community online of fashion followers and has also become best known for her hit Olly Rose dress!
Starting with bold feminine pink pieces which were all made to order, since then it has evolved into a more grungy aesthetic.
KT shares her tips for pivoting, creating sell out launches, how to find the right influencers for your brand and how to get out of a negative cycle which so many founders face.

In this episode we discuss :
-
The 80/20 rule: 80% of your sales will come from 20% of your products so ‘If it’s ain’t broke, then don’t fix it.’ If you have a best seller, relaunch it in different colour ways and styles, don’t try to always reinvent the wheel.
-
The importance of going to see your manufacturers in person: you get things done quicker, you can build relationships, you can check that they fit in with your values and they are likely to work harder for you after you’ve made the effort to come and see them.
-
The power of taking a break and space from your business: sometimes the most productive thing you can do is pausing and taking a holiday to reignite the creativity in you and help you get out of a negative cycle.

043 - Building A New Brand With Your Best Friend with @shopfleuri
Season 1 · Episode 43
mercredi 26 août 2020 • Duration 52:53
Hilary & Kirsten reached out to me on instagram to come on the podcast & wanted to discuss building a new brand with your best friend which really caught my attention!
Fleuri was born in the heart of Los Angeles by Hilary & Kirsten who worked together at the same fashion company. One had a knack for business while the other was skilled in design, but their shared passion was collecting timeless jewellery pieces.
They spent hours each week after work in the jewellery district of L.A., asking for advice, researching gems, and trying not to feel intimidated by the giant man-run jewellery companies that seemed to be the only successful operations in the area. While both struggling to pay rent in the expensive city and living pay check to paycheck, they thought of the women before them that had taken an ounce of courage and turned it into a triumph. With only $200 in hand, they jumped head first into creating Fleuri.
Fleuri’s pieces are not meant to be trendy or temporary. Kirsten and Hilary wanted to make jewellery pieces that could be heirlooms for years to come. Each piece is made by hand, using locally sourced materials to create the pieces they had always dreamt of. They name each piece after a historic woman that has inspired them to follow their ambitions and take a leap of faith.
In this episode we discuss :
-
How Hilary & Kirsten met (it’s a funny story!)
-
The story of how they both left their jobs in fashion to start a brand
-
Running a business when they now live 16 hours away from each other
-
The experiences they encountered starting in a male dominated experience
-
How BLM & Covid have affected their business
-
Where they take inspiration from & what they have planned for the future!
BTW you can hear Hilary’s dog at the beginning as she has a cone on but we fix it after a couple of mins!

042 - Creating Window Displays With Katie Brew
Season 1 · Episode 42
mercredi 19 août 2020 • Duration 59:01
Katie and I went to uni together to study fashion retail buying but our careers have gone in different directions! I thought it would be fun to speak to Katie and share her story about how she left buying and transferred to a completely different role! Katie is actually living in Germany at the moment as she works for a large retailer out there (we can’t name it otherwise she has to fill in loads of boring paperwork and tbh she cba!) haha!
Her stories that she shares in this episode are so honest & I’m super grateful to her for that! I know that whenever she says ‘for example’ that its actually something that she’s had to do for a wacky boss or client!
In this episode we discuss :
-
How Katie moved out of the buying industry due to not enjoying it
-
The resilience needed to get into an industry you know nothing about
-
The crazy projects she’s been asked to work on for brands such as Harrods, Selfridges, Dior & Nike (to name a few!)
-
The skills needed to work in a job that has so many moving parts
-
What the process is to go from an idea to an installation
-
What a critical path is & why it’s the key to success

This solo episode is me reading my article that was featured in The Delicate Rebellion magazine! I was incredibly excited when Hannah asked me to write this in my natural tone of voice and keeping it light hearted!
The Delicate Rebellion is a beautiful print publication to challenge the mainstream media's portrayal of women and to bring your peepers back from screen to print.
Last year, Hannah launched The Collective, an online community that pairs the wild ones featured in the mag with the readers to provide a community with the added benefits of mentorship, online workshops, support and encouragement.
With collaboration at the heart of everything, she also runs workshops and meet-ups across the UK to bring the community together for real life hangs, because there's more to life than social media #PRAISEBE.
