This Bonus episode of The Eden Podcast is about Tabitha Center #316 – reaching and disciplemaking among at-risk women through vocational training based on the positive insights from Eden. Claudine Selenga and her husband Nubako Selenga founded and direct this ministry to 7,000 at-risk women in Kinshasa, DRCongo and beyond.

The story: Claudine and her husband Nubako had served as the leaders of their denomination in the northwestern region of the DR Congo. They moved south to the capital city of Kinshasa as Nubako began international travel heading up a new missionary association to other countries in Africa. Meanwhile Claudine was raising their six children and was open to what her next ministry activities would be.

Here is the remarkable timeline of the ministry that grew from one center in their home to multiple centers serving 7,000 at-risk women in 2024! Now located in 300 local churches they spread the Good News through Bible study and vocational training.

They discovered that many of the young neighborhood women had resorted to prostitution due to their extreme poverty. Many lacked the skills for gainful employment. Most did not know the Lord or how to grow as Christians.

So Claudine started a home Bible study group. Her first priority was evangelism and discipleship. And she has retained that priority in all that has developed since the start.

She observed their lack of marketable skills. Being a seamstress herself, among other things, Claudine got two hand cranked sewing machines and began teaching sewing to the young women. She called the work The Tabitha Center.

The young women loved the song time, the Bible lessons, the prayer time, the skills classes and more! A dozen young women started attending at first. Then 20, 25 and more started coming!

They added lessons on home economics, small business management skills, cosmetology classes, restaurant management and more.

The Kinshasa City Team led by Pastor Nubako Selenga ministry now includes these outreaches:

• Tabitha Centers (reaching at-risk women with discipleship training and vocational skills)
• Global Fingerprints Tabitha (an extension of Tabitha that includes literacy training)
• Follow Me (reaching men through vocational training)
• Kids Action Network (teaching children through Bible storytelling)
• Planting 100 new churches (growing healthy, holy churches in Kinshasa, pop. 17 million)

The VERY important verses in Genesis 3 are God's words to the Serpent tempter, to the woman and to the man. MANY people have missed the meanings God communicates through the Hebrew word patterns in these verses. In Genesis 3:14 God confirmed the conflict already underway between the serpent tempter and the woman. Had she been attacked? Yes! Had she unmasked the serpent tempter, in effect denouncing him before the Judge of all? Yes! 

God honored her words by using them against her attacker in judgment saying "Because you have done this." He then introduced the Good News in verse 15 that would be confirmed in Line 1 of 3:16. Jamil Hamil from SE Oklahoma is a student of the Tru School Workshops on Women and Men. Raised in a legalistic and patriarchal church she was restricted from ministry because she was a woman.

Baptized three times she earnestly loved God and sought to love and serve. She did all the crafts with the kids at church. Then she facilitated discussions in the women's ministry. Her insights often made the Bible more real to them.

Special Guest for this Episode is Dr. Ron Pierce. He has taught at Biola University in the undergraduate Biblical and Theological Studies division since 1976, specializing in the controversial area of "theology, sexuality and gender", the life and writings of the Old Testament prophet Daniel, and the Israel-Palestine conflict. From 1986–2001 Ron directed Biola's Israel-Palestine travel-study program, then continued to lead study tours to the Holy Land for local churches until 2014. 

His published books include Discovering Biblical Equality (2004, 2005, 2021), Partners in Marriage & Ministry (2011) and the Teach the Text commentary on Daniel (2015)—along with numerous articles for academic journals. Ron and his wife Pat have been active members at the Whittier Area Community Church since 2004, and Ron is ordained with Converge International.

Jean Calvin in the 1500's decided that 'ezer kenegdo in Genesis 2:18 which referred to the woman who was to be created meant "cook's helper." He was wrong. Very wrong. Who was the woman? Peter starts verse 7 on chapter 3 with the word "Likewise" in the Greek text. Likewise what? or who? This is a key to understanding 1 Peter 3:7. Witnessing wives and husbands. The passage of 1 Peter 3:1-7 is about those Christians who are married to unbelieving spouses. They are unequally yoked. They are praying for their partner to come to Christ. Peter gives sensible advice how to please God and how to win their spouse.

Is this passage about hierarchical marriages with wives submitting to their lordly husbands? Are all wives somehow the "weaker vessel"? NOT AT ALL! The weaker spouse does not yet know Christ and needs to be won to Him.

Throughout 1 Corinthians Paul inserts words and sentences from his critics. He then responds to their ideas. In 1 Corinthians 14:34-35 he inserts a final quote from the legalists. They justified their views by saying "as the law says." This was the Jewish oral law not the Law! 

Therefore we should put quotation marks around verses 34-35. By not doing so we allow people to think Paul is advancing these ideas which are contradictory to the freedom in Christ he taught elsewhere! 

But some people have said this was a reference to Genesis 3:16. Here at the Tru316 Foundation we have shown that there are no such ideas in God's words to the woman.

Did you know we will judge angels? We will! See 1 Corinthians 6.

Paul's point in 1 Corinthians 11:10 is that since we are fit to judge the angels we are also fit to put into practice what he recommends in the first part of 1 Corinthians 11:10. 

Don't forget to start the passage at verse 2. Paul is praising the women and men in the church at Corinth for practicing what he preached! He quoted the hypocritical legalists in verses 4-6. Then he appealed to the Jewish believers in the church based on Genesis 1-2. We ALL are made in God's image.

Then he appeals to Gentile sensibilities in verses 13-15. Finally he dismisses those who are still contentious.

Joy made some important discoveries about the word patterns in Genesis 3:16 we've never told you about before. We'll be including them in the forthcoming edition of her book: Man & Woman in Biblical Unity, Theology from Genesis 2-3!

Did you know that there is a chiasm that shows which part of the linchpin we're supposed to notice? In the chiasm of lines a and b the stress is on the Hebrew word heron in Genesis 3:16a! But modern language translations cover over this VERY important detail. That's why we're working to "true" this verse and related passages as well.

Her first church grew from 15 to 50 people. Snake River Church was the start of her ministry as Pastor Faith.

Her current church is immigrant friendly. They now have people from Ethiopia as well as a growing Hispanic congregation.

Faith and her husband are both worship leaders and they love the people and they want them to follow Jesus.

When they started calling her husband Dave, "Pastor" too, Dan explained that he didn't go to seminary and he didn't preach and teach. His wife was the Pastor and he was pleased with that.

Why so much turning in circles? Why so much confusion and disputing on what Paul wrote to Timothy? I believe it is because people have missed Paul's three-part passage in 1 Timothy 1:18-3:16. THIS IS IMPORTANT. It helps make clear that in 1 Timothy 2:11-12 Paul refers the subgroup of wayward women overseers in Ephesus.

"In every place" in 1 Timothy 2:8 is the start of Section 3 where Paul first refers to the wayward overseers who were disrupting the church. We go deeper on this in our zoom Workshops.
