#262 Strategies to lose weight, maintain weight loss and live healthier

mercredi 28 août 2024Duration 01:21:07

On today’s episode I’m diving into the science of weight loss. This episode is all about how to lose weight in a healthy way, maintain that weight loss and live a healthier life.

We haven’t discussed weight loss in detail on the podcast before, but enough people have asked me about it so I thought we could dive into some common questions and misconceptions about weight loss. I’ll dive into:

  • The science of weight loss
  • Whether there are diets that are best for weight loss?
  • Are there foods that aid weight loss?
  • Are there foods that burn fat?
  • Can you target weight loss in specific areas of the body?
  • Can you target “belly fat” with specific foods or exercises?

I’ll discuss calorie restriction, popular weight loss diets (keto, low carb), fasting, the microbiome, plus the lifestyle factors that lead to weight gain. I’ll also discuss obesogens, the effects of stress and poor sleep on weight gain as well as evidence based supplements that can help you lose weight.

How to reduce alcohol consumption and improve our relationship with drinking with mixologist and mindful drinking expert Camille Vidal

lundi 26 août 2024Duration 01:03:53

On today’s episode I have a good friend of mine, Camille Vidal, creator of Mindful Cocktails and founder of La Maison Wellness, to talk to me about reducing alcohol consumption and improving our relationship with drinking.

Camille Vidal is a globally recognised bartender and drinks expert turned mindfulness, Yoga and Meditation teacher.

And she’s a true pioneer in this field. Camille (aka @mindfullycami), is on a mission to inspire the world to bring mindfulness into the glass, showing that Tasty doesn’t have to be Boozy.

For some people, abstinence is absolutely necessary and the number of sobriety tools and programmes are increasing. But for many of us, myself included, we still want to enjoy the very occasional alcoholic drink whilst being mindful of the ill effects.

As somebody who is consciously trying to reduce my own alcohol intake I loved chatting through the statistics regarding how many other people are trying to cut down rather than abstain completely from alcohol. I’m somebody who  appreciates a chilled rose or a glass of fine red with a meal, and I’m excited to explore a new world of no and low alcohol drinks that put my health first whilst still being able to enjoy a refined and sophisticated pairing with food.

We talk about:

  • The difference between Sobriety and Mindful drinking
  • The Diuretic effects of alcohol
  • Strategies to reduce alcohol such as, Remove replace reduce and Bookending

BONUS Bold Asian Flavours with Dominique Woolf

lundi 15 juillet 2024Duration 44:13

For this week’s bonus podcast we have Dominique Woolf on the show - I’m super excited to host her. We also cooked a beautiful dish in the Doctor’s Kitchen studio, a Salmon Curry, which we made Doctor’s Kitchen friendly with more veg and fibre.

If you don’t know Dominique, she won the “great cookbook challenge with Jamie Oliver” with her simple accessible Asian recipes. Her books became Sunday times best sellers and she has a wealth of knowledge and knack of fusing multiple different cuisines.

Dominique is passionate about sharing her love of big, bold flavours and Asian cuisine and her second book, The Asian Pantry, is out now in all good bookstores.

We have a conversation about food, flavour and how Dominique copes with a busy family life as well as running her own business and becoming an entrepreneur.

mercredi 7 juin 2023Duration 01:34:04

On today’s podcast we’ll be talking more specifically about practices, tactics/‘hacks’ to reduce blood glucose spikes and crashes, strategies to keep us insulin sensitive and ultimately improve our metabolic health, so we can prevent things like T2DM, certain cancers, dementia, obesity, CVD. #198 Beat Burnout and become more resilient with Dr Dani Gordon

mercredi 31 mai 2023Duration 01:06:04

Burnout. It’s a massive topic, not fully understood and the mechanisms that drive stress, fatigue, brain fog and all the symptoms suggestive of poor resilience, are multifactorial and complex which is why it’s so lovely to speak with a double board certified medical and integrative medicine doctor who’s treated 1000s of patients about this subject.

It can often be frustrating for people as well, particularly when you feel like you’re doing the right things. You eat the right foods, you exercise, you take supplements, you meditate, you do yoga. You do all the ‘correct things’ yet you still have symptoms that make you feel that you’re constantly treading water without any resolve.

Dr Dani Gordon is back on the podcast today, she’s an integrative medicine physician and leading expert in integrative and cannabinoid medicine, and resilience. She has treated thousands of patients with medical cannabis, is vice chair of the UK Medical Cannabis Clinicians Society and is author of ‘The CBD Bible’ and the new book 'The Resilience Blueprint.'

We talk about:

  • What we mean by burnout?
  • What symptoms are suggestive of burnout
  • How resilience starts in the brain
  • The HPA axis
  • Psychoneuroimmunology
  • Endocannibinoid system and the gut
  • Supplements for sleep
  • General supplements for health
  • Mind Body Interventions
  • Concepts to lean into for resilience such as compassion, optimism, gratitude, self awareness and judgment

Dr Dani’s medical practice, Resilience Medicine Clinics, treats patients across the UK with cannabinoids and integrative medicine with a focus on mental health, chronic fatigue and complex chronic disease.

#194 The COOKS Live Podcast with Dr Rupy and Hanna Geller

mercredi 26 avril 2023Duration 50:02

Today’s episode is a live recording from my first supperclub of my book tour to promote the latest cookbook “Dr Rupy COOKS” and it was recorded in front of a live audience in London where we got to enjoy some beautiful food from the book prepared by Hanna Geller and her team who hosted the event at her home and interviewed me!

We talk about the mission for Doctor’s Kitchen, where I started, why I wrote this new book and also what I’m up to with the app, the non-profit work and future aspirations to change the way we look at food as medicine.

After two decades working as an interior designer, creating comfortable and inviting

spaces, Hanna turned her attention to food. Combining these two great passions, she

started the Building Feasts blog to share not only recipes and stories about the dishes

she developed, but her philosophy on designing ways to bring people together around a

Table. And it’s this passion for food that brings out a little debate element of this interview which I personally really enjoyed.

Hanna also teaches regular cooking classes, hosts Supper Clubs, pop ups and other events including collaborations with Pump Street Chocolate & Bakery, Honey & Co to name a few. You can find out more about it at www.buildingfeasts.com.
