Adventure: The Ingredient For Happiness You Can Use More of | Ep. 3515 Nov 202100:06:10

They say happiness is like a tail. If you chase it, you’ll never catch it. But if you focus on other things, it will follow you wherever you go.

Still, it’s nice to have some clue about how to live your life.

It turns out, doing the same things over and over again is not the key to happiness. Happiness, real and true fulfillment, requires adventure.

It makes sense. Nothing gets your mood in the doldrums like doing the same old thing all the time.

Let’s look at the big reasons why adventure leads to happiness.

The Power of Memories
Memories form our identity. And our identity is tied up in our sense of self worth and, ultimately, happiness.

When you go on an adventure, you create vivid memories. You remember the time you visited Machu Picchu much more clearly than what you had for breakfast last Thursday.

These defining memories become part of the story of our lives. When we think of ourselves, we include these moments of adventure. We start to see ourselves as bigger and more daring than we used to. And we start seeing the world as a place full of new things to be discovered and enjoyed.

Personal Growth
Adventure pushes us to do things we’ve never done before — that’s almost part of the definition. It isn’t an adventure to commute to work for the 900th time. It is an adventure to travel across the country to a National Park.

When we go on adventures, we learn more about the world, but as we do that, we learn about ourselves. What are you capable of? What do you like?

It’s been said that you can’t know your country until you know two others. It’s as true for the place you live as well as the body you live in. Until you push yourself into new things, you don’t really know who you are.

And the more you learn and try, the more you become. That is key to your happiness on a deep level: seeing yourself grow.

Money Well Spent
You’ve probably heard this advice, it’s become a well-worn idiom at this point: spend money on experiences, not things. As we’ve seen, adventures are so important for your happiness, and so with your expendable income, they should take priority over acquiring items.

Adventures are satisfying because they give you growth and amazing memories. These don’t get old. When you buy a bigger TV than your old one, you notice how great it is for about a week. After that, you’ve become accustomed to it, and anytime you watch a smaller TV, you are more unsatisfied. But a great memory stands the test of time.

By choosing adventure over luxury items, you invest in happiness

The Point Where Everything Starts to Work | Ep. 3409 Nov 202100:07:05

There’s a turning point that happens to a champion.

There’s a moment where a hero discovers a hidden switch somewhere that unleashes enough courage to blast through obstacles and emerge victorious, unstoppable.

That turning point is not a magic spell that rains down from heaven, it’s not a pill like in the matrix, but it’s nearly as instantaneous.

The point is like the accumulation of force under pressure, like the tires of a race car hugging a turn, and just when the force is about to flip the car over, the driver smashes the accelerator and the car shoots out of the curve with full momentum.

Or the clarity that the air is granted after the first rain of the season, when all the smog and grime is wiped away, revealing a purity almost forgotten.

This moment is upon you.

The moment when you spin out of the cocoon, bursting 100 miles an hour towards a life calling you know has been written specifically for you.

So how do you access this turning point?

It’s undoubtedly a result of a very powerful combination of forces: struggle, and faith.

The two work like opposing sides of a coin.

When you stop to look at it, you’ll only see one side.

Focus on struggle and that’s all you get.

Focus on faith and you’re left dreaming.

It is only when you flip the coin that the two begin to merge together.

Faith and struggle. That is your compass that will guide you.

The Impossible Just Hasn’t Been Conceived Yet | Ep. 3308 Nov 202100:04:59

Anything is possible once you break it up into smaller pieces.

The impossible is just like a map that hasn’t been explored yet.

When you think of a map as a projection of reallity it becomes easy to then flip it on the inverse and say that if you can imagine it and draw the abstract version of it, then you can make reality mirror the abstract version that you’ve created.

It goes both ways.

Life can be put into a box, or it can flow through a box that you create, similar to how a river will flow through the man made canals.

Today I spent the day creating a plan, and attempting to make this plan as detailed as possible, painting the pathways for reality to flow.

This is the true purpose of a vision. It is to guide the flow of our lives and our desires down a defined pathway.

And although we might draw a sketch for these dreams to flow through, the reality that will wash over us as it flows through this abstract guardrail that we’ve created will leave us utterly breath taken and filled with wonder at the level of detail and depth the real thing is made of.

Because no matter how many plans we make we cannot compare with the vividness that is the true experience of living in the moment.

Plan.

That’s how you reach the impossible.

You set your sights on it and it will come to be.

If an impossible thing were not planned, but still achieved, would it be celebrated?

Maybe that is humilty. Doing the impossible and solemnly accepting it as par for the course.

Like a lone seedling that has found a foothold on a rocky cliff, then grown to a majestic tree shooting striaght out of stone. The tree needs no witness to realize it’s strength. It is strong because it is.

There’s no complaint uttered in the humble pursuit. There’s no fear of failure when fueled by the passion to live as you are destined for. Greatness is not something only dripped out to a select few in life.

Greatness is a part of who you are.

Define it, and it will vibrate into reality. Call it forth, like a fearless snake charmer commanding a cobra. You are the master of your reality. You are the channeler of greatness.

Today we plan. Today we accept that our abstract vision of life can be projected onto reality.

Today, we choose a plan that stretches us, because we are worthy of all we can imagine.

How to Love and Accept Yourself (No Matter What) | Ep. 3205 Nov 202100:06:02

We’ve all had some shitty cards dealt to us. No matter how great your luck, there’s always going to be some things that can be considered a bad hand.

It’s what you do with that hand that matters.

You have the choice to look at everything as a blessing. You have the choice to love.

Love is that which enables choice in the first place.

Think about it. Without love you wouldn’t be able to distance yourself from the situation to see that there’s good in it.

But as soon as you realize that you can look at any situation through the eyes of a child - without judgement - just accepting that it is, and asking the question ‘what is this?’ you can begin to love it.

When you face a situation with love, all the power that this situation had over you melts away.

The villain is no longer scary, it is just a thing needing love like the rest of us.

Let love be your default choice.

Why?

Because love will always be stronger than fear. There is no way that fear can last in the face of love. When you’re greeted with fear, embrace it. Forgive it.

And then pick up your feet and move the fuck on from it.

All those breadcrumbs lurking in the shadows clamoring for your attention aren’t going to let you rise to your greatest truth.

Tethers. That’s what they are.

Chains. Keeping you stuck lamenting over the past.

Love will set you free.

Love for yourself, love for your power, love for your direction.

Let your love flow out from within you, a golden shimmering river that pours across the entirety of your past, your future, your present journey.

Paint the shadows of your past in the golden glow of forgiveness and rise like the champion you are.

What matters is how you choose to apply your talents now, where you shout the life giving roar of your voice, Where you dedicate your attention, because you have so much incredibly powerful creative energy inside of you. Direct it. Channel it. Guide it.

Do it with love.

Do it with forgiveness.

You are not meant for small things.

You are not meant to chase your tail.

You are not meant to be chained to the past.

Today, you accept that you are worthy of greatness.

Today, you accept that this path can be healed with love.

Let all those who have wronged you, especially your own shadow, be forgiven.

Release your fear.

Release your regret.

Release the ticking doom of the clock, and embrace love for the moment.

What If Anything Were Possible? | Ep. 3026 Oct 202100:06:42

What if anything were possible? What if failure weren’t an option? What if you had an all powerful companion, residing always beside you, a divine friend, someone you could trust with everything. And what if this all powerful friend of yours could simply take each and every thought of yours, all of your decisions, computations, musings… And filter them, analyze them with its all knowing power then refine them and straighten them to The pure, clear concept that is your truth?

What if you could rely on this companion for everything? That there would never be judgment that you would never be alone.

What would you attempt? How far would you go? The burden of fear is an unnecessary tether holding you back from greatness. The circling thought of doubt will spin you in unnecessary loops, delaying your rise to brilliance.

Hand these thoughts to your subconscious, to the divine companion in your mind. Trust that all your worries are cleansed… Purified.

There is no need for complexity. All you need is to know that some greater power has your back. You are on the right path. Put aside regret. Put aside shame. Forgive the path that you’ve walked. Forgive the people in your life who you carry a grievance towards.

Hand these burdens to the cleansing companion in your mind and let this divine friend of yours straighten all that junk out. Feel the relief that comes from letting go trying to solve it all on your own. Let a great river of forgiveness and love for through you. You are overflowing with power. You are flowing unobstructed, with creative power. You have unlimited talents to apply to your purpose today.

You are filled with strength. You can achieve anything today, you can set the wheels in motion through your effort. Trust in the forces that are backing you.

Surrender to the divine purpose and let go of your fears. You got this.

Finding Your Purpose | Ep. 2925 Oct 202100:06:49

Finding Your Purpose.

What are you meant to do?

You have endless talents, what will you use them for?

When you aren’t sure of what your purpose is, build pyramids.

Build what you know.

Build what you value.

We look back at the efforts of the Egyptians 2000 years ago and wonder what the point was.

The pyramids don’t serve any purpose.

Yet, they exist.

The effort that went into creating them is indisputable.

Someone had the vision to build them, then recruited the labor and minds of others to make them happen.

So your dream might feel ambiguous right now.

That’s alright.

Nurture it. It will grow.

Continue taking care of that mission every day, and people will show up to help you bring it into fruition.

Build a pyramid.

It doesn’t have to be some divine, perfect purpose. It just needs to invite you to apply effort.

You always have effort, you always have passion.

Put them into action building.

It doesn’t matter what shape your pyramid will manifest when it’s done.

It matters that you gain skills and perspective as you build.

That’s what makes a great life.

The great life is built brick on brick.

Every day laying another brick on the foundation.

Last night I had a friend telling me that her life was hard in her 20s, and she had to work and suffer constantly without being able to enjoy the lackadaisical college life that others seem to have. I looked at her with compassion, remembering my own thoughts of regret towards the level in which I was able to enjoy my youth.

These stories, these memories are the puzzle pieces at your feet. Each piece on its own Might not have an attractive lustrous color, but to look at your life with regret is to deny the manifestation of the brilliance within you at this moment.

See the puzzle at your feet for a tall picture. Takes stock on all your limitless talents, your creative thoughts, your intelligence, your unique storytelling, your vision, your knowledge. You have unlimited, endless skills and talents.

You are overflowing with power. You are blessed to access happiness right now. Put a puzzle together and look at your past with gratitude for bringing you here, for giving you the colors before you.

Skip the Baby Steps | Ep. 2723 Oct 202100:08:00

What level are you playing at?
What level do you want to be on?

More importantly, what does true satisfaction look like? What does heaven look like? If you were able to skip the tutorial, skip the purgatorial lobby to your dreams, and just bust through the gates of paradise to the life you were born for, what would that look like?

Just imagine it. Imagine skipping the stupid baby steps. Imagine discarding the dull and the dreadful rights of passage that you’ve somehow deemed your necessary penance to live a content life…

Imagine discarding those like a dog drops his slobbery wet rope toy when you present before him a dripping, juicy steak… One of those steaks falling off the bone, with the steam rising from the glistening meat… that steam going right to his nose. The slobbery rope toy   is dropped in an instant, meaningless and forgotten.

Don’t keep torturing yourself with baby steps.

You’ve earned your stripes. You’re ready to claim the hard, glorious, rightful level to play on. Lift your shoulders high and rise up to the stage. This is your calling. This is your chance to dominate.

Today make the decision to only except what you were born for. Heaven is a decision you make today. Don’t change your mind. It’s the only thing you truly want, so don’t settle for stupid, don’t settle for baby steps. Leap into your rightful place today with all your power.

Skip first gear. Skip second gear. Put the engine in fifth and start living big.

Dealing with Screwups | Ep. 2622 Oct 202100:08:00

Anguish. What’s it good for? A bold life is going to have a few run-ins with misfortune. Imagine it like the first day of summer vacation, when you run to the beach, white as a ghost and then decide to stay in the sun for far too long, you’re going to get a few burns.

What’s the point to Anguish over it?

 Heal.

Get back up and go out it again. Repeated exposure won’t break you, like a healthy glow of a suntan, or a lithe and powerful batch of scar tissue beneath a well toned muscle… Take it.

Don’t simply endure it, drink it up, like it’s the blood of some magical creature that will bestow all powerful ability and wisdom upon you.

Hallelujah. You screwed up. Sweet. You miss calculated. Great.

It’s time to make a pivot and try again? Excellent.

Every screwup is getting you closer to what you were truly meant for. This doesn’t mean you go down cursed to misfortune with some masochistic optimism Like Voltaire’s Candide, but that you gain wisdom and clarity through the process that will better position you to crack the approach on your next go.

So you tried to launch a rocket to space… And it exploded into 100,000 chunks of metal 10 m off the ground. Launch another one. Keep rotating the puzzle in your hands and smile at the great fortune you have to be able to swing the bat.

Don’t wish you were over this part already. Because if you skip this part, you’ll never know what strength you’ll pass on.

Be present here and you’ll find out the clues to the next level. While you’re here on this level get a high score experience all you can make as many screw ups as possible, crash into every barrier.

Now - Be grateful that your screwup‘s are reversible.

Imagine the torment that a general on the battlefield might be burdened with when he makes a screw up.

Imagine the same general to be the Roman general responsible to drive Hannibal out of Italy.

Every battle resulted in another loss.

Every time the general would send troops to Hannibal’s forces they would be met with utter defeat.

Again and again, the general would have to bear the burden of the lives of countless good soldiers.

But the general would resolutely lick his wounds, rally forward again until Hannibal’s army slowly whittled away and one day had no more foothold on Italy and Hannibal’s Carthage was finally forced to surrender.

And so today might be a screwup for you, today you might be forced to take a retreat, to feel the heavy blow of defeat.

Good. That’s a signal that you’re taking risks. That’s a signal you’re fighting for a change.

Try again. Launch another rocket.

I know you have one more shot left.

And when that one’s fired you got two more.

Give it your all.

Rise up and celebrate the scars on your fists.

Today’s the day you become stronger than defeat.

Cultivate more faith in your life (if you want to make a real change) | Ep. 2521 Oct 202100:06:00

Sunrise in the desert is quite a beautiful thing. The night will make way when the sun comes. It always will.

Today, I woke up long before the sun in Palm Springs. I came to visit my parents while they were in town for a short trip. And so this morning I woke up and watching the darkness from the balcony of my hotel while I sipped a hot black coffee, I came up with this realization that our lives are like great cycles of darkness and light, of not knowing, and then realizing.

The reason this realization is important will come in a moment, but first, let’s continue with this beautiful present story. As the darkness around the hotel slowly lifts…

I watch one by one the lights of the windows of my neighbors across the courtyard flicker on. And groggy, disoriented humans begin to Scutter on their respective balconies. The clouds overhead slowly transition from black, to dark magenta, and then fiery purple, to a dull gray and now, a perfect gradient of white fluffy tops on the east and smooth steel gray bottoms on the west.

My sleepy neighbors in bathrobes walk aimlessly in the courtyard below unaware of the great victory that just happened. The light has conquered the darkness once again.

The reason I am brought to this reflection has a lot to do with the recent growth of my business. The pursuit of my dreams. Faith. When you are reaching for a dream, there is inevitably going to be a delay.

It might help to imagine the process of realizing a dream to be like the gears of a great old machine spinning up to start for the first time in a long time.

There is magic happening under the surface when you start to move towards your dreams. But the present you, the one that has just begun the journey is approaching this new dream in the darkness.

No just because there is darkness and there’s no signal, there is no feedback…

None of this means you should stop.

No, it actually means you need to lean into your faith a little more. The sun will not be held back so don’t start panicking about the dark.

Hold.

Stay in the game.

Repeat whatever mantra you have to to keep yourself from listening to the willow Wisps and the sirens in the night. Don’t let the fearful pull you down to the depths of their numbness. Stay with it. Resist the urge to give up, to throw your dream away.

The sun will come. It always does.

Stick with it.

Keep going.

Cultivate more faith, and trust that when you put in the effort, you will get your miracle at the end.

You Are F***ing Strong | Ep. 2420 Oct 202100:05:56

You are f***ing strong.

Let that phrase hang in the air, pulsing with its ferocity, like a static charge, a thunderbolt. And let that then enter your body, reverberating through your bones, the pulse of the words sending ripples of energy through your blood starting in your chest, and echoing down through your fingers, through your shins, and blasting into the floor through the soles of your feet in pure, unobstructed power.

You are a f***ing strong.

Today is a day you celebrate. Today you celebrate discovering your true strength. Today you stand at the first step of a solid white stone stairway leading to the heavens.

Just let your imagination chew on the visual here: behind you is a decade long adventure in the dark, fog obstructed swampland of your own doubts, your frustrations.

For all this time you’ve been walking in circles, blinded by the illusion that this vicious swampland was real, that it could threaten you, and keep you stuck.

But today, for the first time, that illusion is broken. Like a ninja in Naruto escaping a genjitsu, you shatter the illusion of this evil swamp, and realize that you are standing on the true path: the path you were born to walk.

And even though you were only on the first step of the staircase, you feel unlimited power cascading into you through every pore of your body, through your soul, the electricity of this power burns away all of your doubt, all of your fear, you are unstoppable.

Today do you know with certainty that this is the path you were destined to walk. It makes fatigue disappear, it wipes aside the superfluous temptation of gluttony, the ringing disappointment of taking a wrong turn. Today you cannot fail.

Today, you are f***ing strong.

What Really Happens When You Control Your Negative Thoughts? | Ep. 2319 Oct 202100:07:51

Common sense, Buddhism, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) all tell us that frequent negative thinking causes problems for us. Depression and anxiety are both marked by higher than normal negative thinking, and you even feel bad in your body when your thoughts are pessimistic or hurtful to yourself.

This all makes sense, but many people think they’ll never have the discipline to meditate or the time to do CBT exercises and finally be rid of negative thinking. But if they knew what awaits them on the other side, I think a lot more people would buckle down and do what it takes to get their negative thinking under control.

Freedom to Be in the Here and Now

Ram Dass famously titled his breakthrough book Be Here Now. The title is part of what made the book so popular: it immediately gets to the point of all spiritual seeking. When we aren’t thinking over what happened in the past or might happen in the future, we have all of our mental resources devoted to life in the present.

And guess what? All life is lived in the present. That means you can wring so much more joy out of your moments on earth. Now, it doesn’t mean that nothing bad will ever happen again or that you’ll never feel a second of pain for the rest of your days. But it does mean that you will move past that pain more quickly, and you’ll not have to feel bad now because of a possible future pain.

Thoughts Become Actions

When it comes to our happiness, the words we speak and actions we take are always more powerful than the ones we think — but everything starts with how we think and feel inside.

When we control our negative thoughts, we become a much more positive presence in our families and communities. That creates a snowball effect, where people see us as positive and so they reciprocate. Over time, we learn to be more outgoing and engaged with others than we might have been otherwise.

By ending a pattern of thinking, we eventually change the whole pattern of our life.

Unlock Energy

If the recent increase in energy drink consumption tells us anything, it’s that people are tired. But no matter how much caffeine you consume, your body will eventually adapt, and you’ll need those four Red Bulls a day just to feel normal.

But when you get negative thinking under control, you tap into more energy than you knew you had. Using strategies to fight negative self talk (like CBT) can help fight depression. With a positive inner monologue, we feel more alert, energetic, and ready to take on the day ahead.

5 Simple Tricks to Activate Unlimited Confidence | Ep. 2218 Oct 202100:10:28

Confidence is a not-so secret weapon of the super-achievers. With it on your side, you can stop hand wringing over doubts and start pursuing your goals fearlessly.

What’s even better is that confidence creates a virtuous circle. The more confident you are, the more likely you are to explore your world and reach for goals. This leads to more adventures, develops new skills, and results in more achievement. These, in turn, create more confidence.

While personality and life experiences can affect the confidence you have now, there are things you can start doing today to improve it. And once you get the ball rolling, you’ll begin to build more and more confidence.

Chase (the Right Kind of) Fear

As we’ve mentioned before, there is usually fear standing between you and your next big improvement in mastery over a skill. So you want to be on the lookout for fear. If you confront it, it can guide you to new levels of success.

Obviously, you want to pick the right kind of fear. Many fears are worth listening to, like staying inside during a terrible storm. But fear that stands between you and a new level of mastery? That’s the fear you are looking for.

Stop Apologizing for Your Skills and Success

Many of us have been led to believe that we should keep our skills and success to ourselves. We think talking positively about ourselves is bragging. This leads to talented people unable to promote themselves.

You don’t have to talk on and on about your abilities, but you do need to stop apologizing for them. Embrace them, and allow yourself to promote them when appropriate.

Stop Comparing Yourself

We can’t help but see a 22 year-old Bitcoin millionaire with a Ferrari and think, “Wow, I’m a failure.” But that kind of negative self talk builds up over time. It’s especially bad if you use social media, and scroll through images specially selected to make people’s lives seem happy, successful and full of good times.

There is only one fair comparison you can make: you in the past vs. you now. If you are working on yourself, you are doing great.

Find Out How to Help Others

A lot of people misunderstand confidence. They think it means being full of yourself. But really, the most genuinely confident people have put their own personal hang ups aside, allowing them to fully engage with helping others.

Helping others makes you feel good, builds genuine connections and focuses your thoughts on the positive. Plus, when you are busy helping others (while still taking time for self-care) you aren’t busy worrying about yourself.

Dress for Success

Have you ever slipped into a brand new dress or suit and instantly felt like a million bucks? Your posture improves, your smile widens, and when you look in the mirror, you see a better version of yourself.

The way we dress not only tells the world what to expect, it tells us what to expect from ourselves. Dressing powerfully is one of the quickest, most effective ways to create confidence instantly. You just need to match the dress to the context — a punk rocker’s big concert requires something a little different than a young lawyer’s first day on the job.

How to find happiness, right here, right now | Ep. 2117 Oct 202100:05:49

You ought to smile more even when you're not feeling it. Let your default resting mode be one of bliss, contentment, kindness. It might feel weird or even sacrilegious to whatever struggle you are currently facing, but truth be told, why do you need to frown or take things seriously? Your zest for life should never be diminished just because the thing is hard does not mean you cannot find joy in it. The heaviest burden you'll ever carry is distraction. The reason this is the truth is that your consciousness becomes split between two realities.

One part of you is longing for a reality that is not in the present. This is the definition of distraction. You’re getting pulled in two directions.

And when your consciousness is split in this matter

You might find that one part of yourself is sitting there resenting the gods and all the decisions of the past that brought you to the spot on the map. So now that you are physically here at this place on the spot on the map, your active mind is grumbling, and cursing at all the wrong turns and obstacles.

This mind of yours is stuck in the past - only able to see the darkness of bad choices.

Your other mind is the mind that even though it is still here now, it’s being held hostage by this brooding villain that is your ego. As your unhappy mind throws a tantrum, it chokes the true mind, the present mind from coming to the surface.

And so this current spot on the map remains unseen, hidden in darkness of the past.

When you smile, you give the true mind in your subconscious the power to regain control of your vision. You begin to see this current spot on the map as paradise, because frankly, it truly is just that. You witness the now, the present glory, the place you are chosen to be.

This only happens when you let go of your vengeful grumbling ego and entertain the true owner of your consciousness with gratitude, presence and joy.

Here is where you belong. Here is where you bend the matrix and pull back the curtain of darkness to reveal the paradise that is this current spot on the map.

Finding unlimited courage with the flip of a coin | Ep. 2016 Oct 202100:06:03

Feelings are insidious. Nothing will keep you rooted in complacency stronger than a feeling of fear or hesitation. Let that be one side of the coin, the dark side of the coin.

Now when the other side of the coin is showing, you might be granted a feeling of courage and motivation that will spur you to get off of your chair and into the arena.

What is the solution to become the master of your feelings? If you could not only be aware of your feelings but also be the master, what would that enable you to accomplish?

In the morning, you wake up, the stiffness of the muscles and the cold out of the covers keeps the feeling of fear wrapped over you like a lead vest. But the moment you grow out of the bed the inertia of that moment disrupts the fear and you stand pure and naked ready to seize the day. From this point, it is your choice what feelings to wear to carry you throughout the day.

The two sides of the coin can be flipped whenever you decide. So often, you get it in your head that you are not worthy to feel the liberated, powerful thoughts. What causes you to imagine that you are not worthy of a miracle? Is it not simply that you are looking backward, transfixed with the dark side of the coin that flipped, is it not that you have simply built a habit of feeling hesitation and this habit in shrouds you like gravity, drawing you into its lonely, pitiful embrace because it doesn't want to be discarded.

Today, before you allow the gravity of your past choices direct your thoughts towards fear and doubt, give a loud roar to the heavens and let your first push through the gates of the day be filled with an irrevocable momentum towards claiming the miracles that truly belong to you. Make a great clash on the boundary of your positive thinking. Push the barrier. Make a new record and shift the scales of gravity Forever toward the light

The swing of the pendulum leads to center | Ep. 1915 Oct 202100:06:25

The swing of the pendulum leads to the center. yesterday, I had a chat with my coach about loneliness. About the feeling that happens when you lock yourself up with willpower and dedicate yourself to a mission.

The old identity will have to be burned off in order to step into the role of someone who can complete the current mission. The challenge is that the old identity has built a home inside of your head. This identity is full of deep roots that reach far into the cracks and corners of your mind.

In order to flush this old you out you’ll need to go deep away from things that give it power, away from the pool of distractions. That means seclusion. Like a rehab center for an addict. It’s time to remove yourself from the reward cues of the old identity.

And part of those cues might be your social life, your dating life, your TV… Just like fasting for the soul, or letting a field life follow, blocked from the sun and rain you will need to burrow in the abyss of your cocoon.

In this process, it might feel like you are swinging on a pendulum between intense highs and lows. This is the death of the old identity, the victory of your willpower, the rebirth of your new mission. On one side of the pendulum swing, your ego will kick and thrash… at that side of the pendulum your ego plows you into depression, squirming and screaming  “get me out of here” - begging and pleading for an end to the seclusion, an end to the fast.

On the other side of the pendulum, as you maintain your seclusion, you will find intense almost perverse pleasure in seclusion to the point where your ego might say something along the lines of “I never want to leave this spot… I’ll just hide here forever”

And you’ll binge in indulgences rationalizing that you “earned” it.

And you continue to swing.

Back and forth back and forth

The game is to hold on as long as possible until you reach the center. Once the pendulum slows and then stops, you have achieved victory over the old identity and have found peace with the new.

There Are Infinite Paths to Success… What Will Yours Be? | Ep. 1814 Oct 202100:05:49

I went to the bookstore yesterday. It was nostalgic. I slowed my pace to take him to smell of freshly printed pages, filled with a slightly chemical stuffiness. As usual, I didn’t bring my phone with me so I was virtually unreachable, in a place that felt like an alternate dimension.

I wandered slowly through the aisles, letting my fingers run across the spines of all the thoughts and experiences of countless artists, sharing their stories.

The science section filled me with wonder as I imagined the level of mastery these authors would have to develop, especially in these various eclectic fields, from neuroscience, to weight loss, and even structural engineering. The path towards mastery is never a single route.

From this point on the map, there are an infinite connection points, byways, and offramp‘s all leading to a special place of knowledge and mastery. You have the choice to become whatever you desire.

That thought should truly be liberating.

More liberating than any other. If your path was indeed the correct path, would there be any cars for shame? If your path was leading to a legendary gold medal that only you could achieve, would you berate yourself for not being good enough?

If your path was leading towards unending joy and a piece so stable nothing could shake it, would you feel anxious about the future?

That is the truth for all of us. We stand at a crossroads today, between a path that will bring us our mastery, letting our stories land on the shelf next to the greats: Vonnegut, Hemingway, Tolstoy, King…

We are given our own path towards greatness.

We simply need to start walking.

Dealing with FOMO and False Hopes | Ep. 1713 Oct 202100:04:37

There is only one way to capture an illusion and that is to commit it to memory by closing your eyes. Let it fall to rest with a tombstone in your memories, under a shady tree that you don’t intend to visit again.

Truth and illusion cannot coexist. And sensations like FOMO are always going to remain on the peripheral horizon, forever unattainable, forever tantalizing you as a fire fly in the night, beckoning you to come closer, promising a taste, but never delivering on that promise.

You’ll find that fear of missing out in all places of the free enterprise: Wall Street, crypto, real estate… But also in social media, on Abbot Kinney, 5th Ave., Macau. What is it truly? False hope.

A promise that you will find happiness when you grasp onto the illusion before you.

And this creates so much FOMO in the process of reaching.

So what if you aren’t holding the fire fly? So what if you haven’t captured the illusion?

Do you have all the Time in the world. And truth does not need these illusions. What do you need a real helps, the beating of the drum in the moment. The cling of the hammer forging your strength, the turn of the page in your journal, the sensation of your tools in your hand as you approach your craft.

Let the illusions dance around you. Let the panic sit on the porch outside your workshop.

Let everyone else carry-on about the narcissistic trend and pump each other up with urgency. You will return to truth. You are the hammer in the Forge. You are a light in itself.

You will return to dust, so do not chase the ephemeral. It will find you soon enough.

The Way to Live With No Regrets | Ep. 1612 Oct 202100:04:25

Imagine a path that leads towards a life with no regrets.

Just think on that, what does it truly imply, to live without regret? Does it mean that you got lucky? Does it mean that it was easy?

Or does it mean that you numbed yourself in resignation to accept that you were destined for failure?

No. It doesn’t mean any of these things.

The path towards a life with no regrets means that you tried. You pushed, you slammed your body against the door and broke through to the frontier of what you know.

It means you played. It means you found a way to laugh, to slow down and listen to every note of the Blue Jays song, to roll in the grass and to find absolute joy in challenges. It is only possible to have no regrets in life when you can learn to enjoy the act of trying.

There is no merit in gluttony, there is no substance in angel food cake or Diet Coke. Just the same there isn’t no true contentment in binge watching Amazon shows, dividing your attention at work with Instagram, or resorting to gossip to numb your own dissatisfaction.

You will always regret the acts of escape. But to live free and true, like you’re truly meant for, it means leaning into your overflowing potential, taking a step into the world of risk. It means learning to love the pain of trying something hard, learning to laugh when you struggle.

Delayed gratification is not about withholding happiness, but about learning to enjoy a more rewarding activities. Once you can figure out how to play in the arena of life when it feels right and natural to fly into the turbulence of growth, then your propensity for taking risks will improve, your ability to withstand the pressure will improve, your satisfaction will also improve. You will become an ultra joyful pioneer of possibility. Forever re-writing regret with a brush of Curiosity and amazement.

No longer will regret even have a foothold in your mind.

Because your mind will be filled with wonder, passion, and gratitude.

So go out there and play today - find a way to enjoy the struggle.

If You Want to Provide Real Value to the World, Then Make Life Fun | Ep. 1511 Oct 202100:05:26

If you want to provide real value to the world, then make life fun.

Because that’s all we’re really doing is playing with pebbles in the sand.

Take the word play out of that and it’s just moving rocks, life becomes a sort of penance, Tartarus, indentured servitude and the only release is death.

So when you make the time pass with laughter and play it begins to shine with true meaning.

Like the ring of a bell in the fog, fun shatters the gloom and lets your existence be recognized instead of obscured.

Laughter is the light of life.

But regardless of that, it’s interesting. In order to be truly, really fun - not this shallow, fleeting, vaporizing kind of fun - the empty fun. You gotta be selfless.

You gotta roll with the punches in life.

You gotta let go of the tantrums, the fantasies, the demands from life.

It’s a fine line along the edge of the river styx.

Like a dance right there on the edge.

You have to give up your expectations and selflessly surrender with a shit eating grin on your face that says ‘come what may, this is going to be a blast!’

And when you land face first in a pile of rejection, failure and broken relationships - you gotta take it in stride. This is the stuff that will make a good laugh 3 months from now.

Get your head on your shoulders and start playing.

Float through the turbulence like it’s a wild adventure.

So your friends are all selfish douchebags who only care about their own gains in life - cool. Give them a good laugh, let them enjoy the ride alongside you.

So your brain won’t turn off thinking about the screw ups you made?

Good. That means you get to laugh about sooner or later. That means you’re alive - you’re thinking. You’re here.

So you’re stuck in a loop of playing victim and want someone to take the blame for whatever crap you’re going through?

It’s a game. It’s pebbles in the sand. Reach your hand out and find another pebble to play with. There are no victims as long as you can see the world as a playground.

Let go of the suffering. Let go of the indentured servitude.

Stop being afraid of getting close to the edge of the cliff.

That place, right there on the edge of what’s possible is where the fun is at.

That place, where familiarity meets surrendering to the unknown is where you’ll find the strength to give laughter in every situation.

So what?

Carry those words with you today.

So what?

When life gets hard, laugh with it.

So what?

When the people around you are miserable, make it fun.

When your own head gets to be a ball of dark scribbles and nasty exclamation marks - laugh with it. The hilarity of the situation is the path to joy.

You are here to have fun.

You are here to play.

You are here to love.

What Color Will You Paint Your Future With? | Ep. 1410 Oct 202100:08:06

What you fear to lose is only loss.

So today is my birthday, I’m still processing what that means. It’s supposed to be a day of celebration, a sort of pat on the back for surviving this long, and a day for the people who are in the journey together with you to reach out and say “Congratulations brother, you’re still stuck in this shitty world together with us. Isn’t it great?“

Maybe I’m feeling pessimistic about the whole thing today. And what better day to rethink your view of the world than your day of birth? This is truly the best day possible to let go of things that no longer serve you. It becomes easy to look for validation in all the well wishes, congratulations, the happy thoughts, but where will these be tomorrow?

This morning the first thing I did after brewing coffee was I took out an old painting I no longer enjoyed looking at… It represented an older darker more angst filled view of my creative process. I then grabbed bright yellow and white paint and slowly begin covering the old dark canvas with this glistening, wet yellow paint.

The black still seeped through the first coat, and as I watched the entire picture become covered, It becomes something new no longer recognizable. The texture of the old painting was still there, but this new color made it beautiful. Wonderful. Full of a direction that is closer align to my truth in my vision for the future.

So today is like that first coat of bright yellow paint. we are taking an existing canvas, all the crap on that old picture can service texture for a new masterpiece.

I’d like to pause and think about the things that happened this last year in my life. I started last year like a kite in the wind. Panicked from being stuck inside the house during Covid, I had a lot of things internally I was escaping from.

Perhaps it was the allure of freedom perhaps it was sensation of being stuck inside whatever it was I packed up sold everything and traveled through Latin America for several months. It didn’t help me find peace, in fact, it probably agitated my growing sensation of aimlessness.

I came back to LA and the relationship I was in crash landed. It was foundational he flawed and that we both wanted it to work out, it was unraveling at the seams so that happened.

It was around this time I pushed myself very hard and I publish my book, I build a coaching business, I started a new podcast, I’ll begin painting and started my next collection, I took stock on my direction in life and cut out the shiny distractions that continuously left me feeling empty. I looked hard at the choices in my life - and I finally found the courage to stop chasing fantasies that evaporate in the winds of time. I replaced much of the fear of loss with a determination to create.

And although it has been a lonely process, I remind myself that long term happiness comes with letting go of short term pleasures.

I discovered acro yoga, started playing tennis more, ultimately it’s been one of the most powerful years of my life.

It hasn’t been a roller coaster, but a solo trek through a wintery mountain trail. The snow stings my face as I walk, my toes have long since lost their feeling… but the thrill of the trek is filling me with a deep, profound joy like a blazing fire burning in my heart.

And now I get to choose the color but this coming year will be painted

Every Day Is a Chance to Start Over | Ep. 1309 Oct 202100:06:14

Every day is a chance to start over. Yesterday I pushed myself extremely hard to get through the end of a project and spent all night looking at the screen. That blue light in high intensity had me Wideawake at night to the point where I couldn’t pass out. Then when I finally did, I woke up conflicted with thoughts of comparison in the middle of the night. Thinking about other people who seemingly have more than me.

And it took a long time of quieting these thoughts until I could settle the panic in my heart.

Was it a trick of the blue light from the screen? Or was that fear lurking in the shadows of my heart waiting for me to be half asleep until I found a boldness to try to possess my consciousness? Perhaps both.

But the trick that worked wonders for me that night, was to remove myself from the perspective that there was a competition in the first place and instead to look at it all as if there were a common mission.

You see, in this mission my power my individual power was essential to turning the tides and completing the mission. This mental shift will serve you whenever you get in a funk of comparison or envy.

Stop looking at the world as a competition where there is a winner and a loser and a timeline for completion. These thoughts will constrict the flow of your potential, like a hairball in a pipe that blocks the flow, thinking about who’s better or how come you’re so far behind will prevent you from playing your part in the greater battle.

Because there is A war happening, you are needed for this battle. You are being called forward to unblock your light and let it shine in full glory on the battlefield.

In the most important part of this, is that your life is just as brilliant as your friend who you were comparing yourself to earlier.

Stop the envy and instead think about how you can help.

Your friend who is out there on the battlefield needs you. They have plowed ahead and are surrounded, just waiting for you to stop with the hesitation and realize that you have the same power.

Get in there and release your light on the battlefield.

You Don't Get to Know How the Story Unfolds | Ep. 1208 Oct 202100:04:55

You don’t get to know how the story unfolds. You don’t get to force your narrative on the silver screen of life. Fortune will find you in its own loving, miraculous way. And when she comes knocking on your door, don’t get caught with your pants down.

Opportunity is hiding in the brush, obscured by some fog of war, waiting for you to get close enough to pick it up. How many times have you boorishly rushed past opportunity with your hands full, unable to actually stop and pick it up?

How many times have you ignored it, dissatisfied with the shape it revealed to you, only to discover later that what you saw was only the tip of the iceberg, like an opportunity to buy bitcoin in 2013.

Today is a game of faith. Faith and diligence. You are signing a contract with luck today, a simple agreement that says you will get your work done. You will show up. You will walk to the edge of the fog of war, all the while training your capacity to pick up the opportunities along the way. And in return, you trust that luck will fulfill its end of the agreement and place the opportunities you need along the path.

That is what faith is all about. But you don’t get to neglect your end of the bargain. If opportunity seems sparse then flip your thinking and realize that this is now an opportunity to increase your carrying capacity so that you can grab bigger opportunities down the road. Stop cursing your luck and instead celebrate the real opportunity you have been given.

So things aren’t going your way? Wonderful. That means you have time to prepare for a windfall of opportunity. Use the quiet spots on the journey to build more leverage, more power, more carrying capacity, and you will multiply the speed in which you can harvest opportunity in the future.

Stop whining, and have faith. Then when the time is right, respond to opportunity with confidence.

You Have a Part to Play in a Bigger Picture | Ep. 1107 Oct 202100:04:42

You have a part to play in a bigger picture. When you’re alone in the world and the great vastness of possibility surrounds you, it is your old behavior to freeze and shrivel in fear.

What can you do? What can you possibly do as this small, vulnerable speck of flesh that can be annihilated in an instant?

What can you really do?

Where is your power if this is all there is?

Perhaps your mind will continue like this, running in circles, hypnotizing your willpower to stay rooted in one place, dazed by all the happenings of the world.

Paralyzed in smallness.

But what if there were more? What if there was a bigger story, a greater mind, who instead of keeping you trapped in a box like some evil stepmother, burst open the doors of your mental prison and beckons you to go on an adventure filled with greatness?

This is the bigger story, the one you are already a part of. It is Big because it is connected. It’s not the single celled organism that wanders in darkness, but a story filled with harmonious lights, colors, and projects. This is the collective mind.

This is the place where you have a part, a role to play.

The best part is that you cannot be harmed in the story. Since you are connected to the greater cause.

And when the grumbling mind, the fearful mind starts to kick in and tell you that you can’t do it, just remind yourself that you’ve already seen and experienced everything this sad story of inaction has to offer.

You’ve read, and re-read the pages. You’ve highlighted the cliche themes of failure, broken hope, and sadness.

You’ve explored all four corners of this box of inaction, depression, fear, anxiety. Ain’t nothing new going to show up in this place.

So, why not accept your part in the bigger story?

All it takes is putting down the story of fear and walking into the story of action.

And the greater mind beckons again,

I dare you.

Come find me. Let’s go on this adventure together.
