Ep 296 | Ether 6-11, Come Follow Me 2024 (November 18-24)
mercredi 13 novembre 2024 • Duration 56:59
→ Timestamps:
(00:00) When the Brother of Jared sees the Lord’s finger it sparks his divine curiosity.
(05:34) The ocean is a symbol for chaos, the fallen world, and the veil.
(07:52) The 2 to 1 Principle as seen in the Garden of Eden, Moses’ crossing out of Egypt into Canaan, and the Jaredite vessels.
(11:26) The number 8 can be associated with rebirth and renewal.
(12:09) Serpents as a symbol of captivity and Divine Providence, ushering the Jaredites south into a place where they eventually repent.
(24:08) The Jaredites hit the pinnacle of righteousness.
(30:13) The Book of Ether is almost like the whole Book of Mormon in miniature.
(34:29) Secret combinations eventually destroy the Jaredites. Substance abuse and addiction are modern secret combinations.
(49:03) Prophets are the opposite of secret combinations.

→ Timestamps:
(00:00) Revelation, how heaven connects with earth.
(13:55) Sometimes we have “air questions” and other times we have “light questions.”
(28:22) The ocean of chaos – being tossed, buried, and broken while in mortality. When we cannot have our circumstances changed, the Lord can change us.
(37:36) Why is he called the brother of Jared?
(47:44) Possible interpretations of Ether 3.15.
(52:59) The great tower.
(56:26) Ether as a type for The Plan of Salvation.

(1:10:39) Mahonri Moriancumer.
(1:12:59) The anthropomorphic nature of God expressed anciently. Ether describes God in ways that fit in an Ancient Near Eastern context.

Ep 286 | Helaman 13-16, Come Follow Me 2024 (September 9-15)
mercredi 4 septembre 2024 • Duration 01:06:49
→ Time Stamps:
(00:00) An overview of these chapters.
(02:05) Blind guides lead people on snipe hunts. When we lay hold on the things that bring eternal happiness they will be never become “slippery.”
(14:45) C.S. Lewis discussed the difference between being in love versus a more majestic, long-lasting love.
(17:35) Samuel’s warnings parallel words from an older Egyptian text called The Instruction of Amenemope.
(26:21) Why signs are given by Samuel. Even with great signs we still have to choose to follow Christ.
(30:13) The sign of light at Jesus’ birth and the sign of darkness at his death teach us about the Savior.
(33:00) We are saved by the merits of Christ, not by our good works.
(34:33) The appearance of Jesus Christ’s name in the Book of Mormon.
(39:51) The Atonement of Christ overcomes both death and sin. All overcome spiritual death by being brought back into the Father’s presence at the resurrection. Only those who repent and receive Christ remain in his presence.
(46:46) Love and hate can be misunderstood in Samuel’s address, specifically when he says” the Lamanites hath he hated” (Hel. 15.4). This statement may relate to ancient Near Eastern treaties, which differ from modern conceptions of “love and hate.”
(59:57) Samuel escapes the stones and arrows of his attackers.
(1:04:42) The importance of striving for unity. The book of Helaman is a pattern for our day, exposing the weakness of a fragmented society that is deeply divided and contentious.
