Take a Wander with Shebs showcases some of the top personalities in the tourism industry.

What distinguishes this podcast from other travel podcasts? Each episode tries to take my guests on a journey to uncover matters they may not have discussed on their platform or in the media. The show's subjects for discussion will cover more than simply travel locations, favourite places or foods, and how to travel efficiently.

I go deeper into why and what an individual may have learnt from a trip or what influence an event or occasion had on their lives whilst travelling. There are no topics that are off-limits. The podcast's goal is to keep listeners guessing and to motivate them to travel, learn, and be better individuals overall.

Get ready to be inspired and Take a Wander with Shebs!

Abelism, Islamophobia, and rhetoric having an impact on narratives were discussed.

We also spoke about closer to my home, and her thoughts on Sir Jim Ratcliffe claiming that "Immigrants have colonised the UK".

We of course spoke about what it is like to travel with a disability, as she is blind. What can be done to improve travel for individuals, whether that's airports or businesses?

Don't Forget to Move | Jules Hatfield & Christine Williams

Season 2021 · Episode 34

dimanche 13 juin 2021Duration 44:19

Jules Hatfield and Christine Williams spoke to me about how they started a successful blog, Don't forget to move, a podcast, Not So Bon Voyage together, and evolved into brilliant entrepreneurs.

Jules is from Melbourne, Australia, and Christine is from San Fransisco, California, USA. They both now live in San Fransisco. I asked them where their initial love for travelling started and how that led them to the lives they have now.

We discussed how they first met. They stumbled across one another in Peru, South America. They were both travelling solo and connected with a local organisation to help people after a big earthquake in the country. They both said the relationship escalated very fast, and ever since then, they got married and have now travelled all around the world together.

We discussed what it takes to start a blog and what it takes to keep it thriving. We also talked about how a digital nomad's life could be a norm in the future, with how everyone has worked remotely during 2020.

I spoke to them both about their successful podcast and why they decided to talk about travel mishaps. They felt as though it was an area that would be more of an interest for listeners and something that isn't covered in other podcasts.

They both spoke to me about some of their adventures. We also talked about what the future may hold for them with aspirations and goals.

It was great to have them on the show. They are both down-to-earth individuals with a great sense of humour. I look forward to seeing the next chapters of their lives and careers.

You can also watch the episode on my YouTube channel (https://youtu.be/nmxbCZvqMAg). For people with hearing impairment, subtitles are available on YouTube.

Exploring the world on a motorcycle | MadNoMad | Elias Vrohidis

Season 2021 · Episode 43

dimanche 13 juin 2021Duration 31:23

I had the pleasure of speaking to Mad Nomad, adventurer, writer and author, Elias Vrohidis. Elias and I discussed how he fell in love with travelling and what drove him to want to explore the world on a motorcycle.

We started the discussion on his education and what degree he obtained. From there, he realised when he began working in front of a computer that this was a life he did not want to continue living.

Elias talked to me about the decision he made to travel at the age of 23, and this was to travel across parts of Asia on a motorcycle. We spoke in detail about why he chose to travel this way and how he documented his journey.

We spoke about some specifics, such as how he goes about funding his travels, how long he travels for, and what he gains from each experience. I also discussed what he would like to accomplish with his journeys once he has completed his goals of travelling on a motorcycle and whether he would like recognition worldwide. I also asked whether he would want to continue travelling on a bike as he gets older.

Elias spoke to me about having written many articles and books. You can purchase his books from his website.

I discussed what he likes to do outside of his travels and his relationship status.

It was great to get to know Elias. A very unique way of travelling. I look forward to seeing more of his journeys in the future.

Food & Travel | Alex Schnee

Season 2021 · Episode 45

dimanche 13 juin 2021Duration 36:02

Alex decided to cook us all ratatouille. This show aimed to discuss what types of food we both ate on our travels and why we love to try different cuisines worldwide. Food is a big part of my travels, and this talk will serve up an appetite.

This was the second talk I had with Alex, as our first talk was also live on Instagram. Unfortunately, I don't have access to that footage due to Instagram not having the option for me to save the video. In that discussion, I spoke to Alex about how she got started in travel, became an author at a young age, and had an eating disorder which she overcame. She put that down to the experiences that she gained from travelling.

I look forward to seeing where Alex goes next, as I have become one of her biggest fans.

The Travel Camel | Shane Dallas

Season 2021 · Episode 39

dimanche 13 juin 2021Duration 35:50

I sat down and spoke to Shane Dallas, a keynote speaker, conference director, social media expert and photographer.

We discussed how he fell in love with travelling at a young age and how his career started in the travel industry. One of the topics we talked about was his photography. Shane got noticed because he took photos of places on the road less travelled, which not many did back in the early 2000s or do so today.

We talked about why he travels the road less travelled and the meaning behind him starting his weekly Twitter chat, TRLT. Did Shane ever envision the Twitter chat lasting this long and it being this successful?

I also spoke to him about what he likes to do away from work and travel. Plus, whether he has plans to go back to Australia.

I thoroughly enjoyed my talk with Shane, and I hope people take something away from our discussion. I look forward to the next chapter of his journey.

Cycling around the world | Simon Parker

Season 2021 · Episode 36

dimanche 13 juin 2021Duration 01:02:02

Simon Parker is a Telegraph travel writer, columnist and broadcaster. His show, Earth Cycle, aired worldwide.

Growing up in north Oxfordshire, he said there were no shops, no pubs, and not much to do, making him eager to get away as he got older. He didn't do much travelling during his early life apart from a few holidays with family. Once Simon had finished school, he bought a one-way ticket to New Zealand, hitchhiked the entire country, and then decided to go and do the same thing in Australia.

Simon doesn't particularly like to follow the crowd or do activities in big organised groups, which is why he loves the idea of hiking and riding by himself or in a small group.

We discussed how he broke into travel writing and journalism. We talked about journalism as it is today and where it is heading in the future. Our discussion on the speed of news breaking was fascinating. What significant factor has social media had on journalism? Was this why Simon wants to work on articles that take a long time to produce?

I discussed with Simon his television show, Earth Cycle: Northern Europe, which won Best Broadcast Programme at the Travel Media Awards for 2020. I asked him what it felt like to win the award and whether he had plans for future shows now.

We also discussed the issues of over-tourism. Simon suggested ways we can all help with this matter.

Another topic we discussed was how fast travelling would pick up once we are out of this pandemic. Simon felt as though there would be a renaissance for international travel, which led to an interesting discussion on the continuing debate worldwide on the impact of travel on the environment.

Simon talked to me about his public speaking and talking to young people about what travel has done for him and what it can do for them. We again spoke about social media and the impact it has had on travel.

Simon has interviewed many icons and told me about what it was like to interview tennis legend Roger Federer in 2020 for the BBC. He also spoke about what it was like to interview cricket player Ben Stokes in the press room after he scored a double century against South Arica in Cape Town back in January 2016.

Talking of cricket, Simon told me about his passion for the sport. He has played cricket himself all over the world on a non-professional level.

We also spoke about how he balances out his travels with his home life as he is in a relationship.

Simon also talked to me about his future aspirations and his advice to people trying to break into journalism, travel and the media.

It was a real delight to have Simon on the show. I could have spoken to him all day about travel. I look forward to seeing what he gets up to next.

You can also watch the episode on my YouTube channel (https://youtu.be/7uO_U_SvOvA). For people with hearing impairment, subtitles are available on YouTube.

12 Trips in 12 Months | Jen Ruiz

Season 2020 · Episode 22

samedi 12 juin 2021Duration 48:29

Jen and I sat down to go over her wonderful and successful career up to the present day. We discussed her transition from being a lawyer to a full-time travel blogger. She is also an established author. Jen is the founder of 'Jen on a Jet Plane', where her aim is to help people live life on their own terms. This ethos in life also led her to become the founder of; 'People of Puerto Rico,' a non-profit organisation which aims to help local entrepreneurs establish an online income stream.

I discussed with her why it was important to write and tell your story, and in particular, writing that journey down in the form of a book. That ambition and goal led Jen to become the #1 bestselling author on Amazon with books like, 'The Affordable Flight Guide,' 'The Solo Female Travel Book,' and her recent book, which reflects the current climate today, '25 Ways to Work From Home.'

I spoke to her about some of her journeys, including when she set out to complete 12 trips in 12 months before her 30th birthday and why that time was an important part of her life.

That led me to speak to Jen about her past relationships. She was very open about some of her encounters, and we spoke about whether travel has had a part to play in perhaps why she hasn't settled down.

Jen is also a two-time Readers' Favorite Award winner, a 3-time TEDx speaker and has been featured by The Washington Post, Huffington Post, ABC News, and most recently, Forbes.

She was a remarkable individual to get to know, and I thoroughly enjoyed our talk. On a personal note, I felt as though I could relate to her journey with mine, and I am sure there will be so many others watching and listening in that will feel the exact same way as well. It's funny sometimes how we can all parallel each other's lives.

Jen is definitely heading to the moon. I can't wait to see her achieve more of her goals, as I will be one of her biggest supporters going forward.

How depression hit me during the pandemic | Jeannette Ceja

Season 2020 · Episode 21

samedi 12 juin 2021Duration 48:00

Jeannette and I sat down and spoke about 2020 and her career up to the present day.

Jeannette spoke candidly with me about how she struggled when we all went into lockdown back in March 2020. She stated she fell into a mild form of depression. We spoke in-depth about why this was triggered and where she is now with it.

We also spoke about why mindset is so important when it comes to wanting something in life. Whether that aspect is on a career level or just her day-to-day goals. She spoke to me about some of her experiences which included her sheer determination to get an interview with Anthony Bourdain.

I also discussed her internationally recognised company, 'Jet Set with Jeannette.' What it took to get it off the ground and, again, the mindset she had with her work ethic to make that a success.

We also discussed why diverse voices in the travel industry were influential, as this has been something Jeannette has been talking to people at conferences all around the world for 5 years.

I have real admiration for Jeannette wanting to succeed, and you will see from the talk that she takes it within herself to have that work-life balance in order. This is something I have noticed when I have spoken to Americans in general that they don't necessarily have due to the work culture that they are in. Jeannette states that she has lived in Italy and Australia, and therefore, she has an understanding of when to take a break.

All in all, It was a great talk. I certainly wasn't expecting to talk to Jeannette about the aspect of mental health. However, I think it was an important topic to discuss due to the current climate we have all been in.

I'm looking forward to seeing Jeannette's next step in her life and career, as she has plenty of fire in her belly to become even more successful than she is now.
