With just one big cinema horror release left for the year and a few weeks to fill before then; we go back to a film that has been on our backlog for many months. Demonic sees the return of Neil Blomkamp in a much smaller project than we’re used to with this director with a concept that blends sci-fi and horror in a very Black Mirror-esque way. Whilst we’re not ready to fully move on from Last Night in Soho mentally just yet we must as the train keeps rolling on with yet another cinema horror release that actually came out the same day. Antlers has been one of the most heavily delayed genre releases of recent years and has finally hit the big screen and promises some original horror in the form of an emotionally driven creature feature. We dissect this, at times, intentionally depressing film and give our verdict on whether it was worth the long wait or not. A slight change of pace this week as the cinema isn’t offering us any new horror delights for a few weeks so we are tackling our backlog of films on digital services starting with a film that had a super interesting premise and trailer from earlier this year. Profile is the latest ‘screenlife’ film to arrive and after loving other recent films within this subgenre such as Host and Spree we were hoping this thriller could deliver on it’s very unique and timely story. Elsewhere this week; The Lost Boys is seemingly returning to the big screen. Del Toro tells us his next film is NOT a horror film (though the trailer suggests otherwise). It’s time to end this. All trilogies must inevitably end with a part three that hopefully serves as both a satisfying conclusion to the overall story as well as being a good standalone entry in it’s own right. Fear Street’s final part takes us all the way back to 1666 with the true origin of Sarah Fier as well as finally tie up the story we are still waiting to see conclude in 1994. We give our verdict on this final chapter and the trilogy overall in what is certainly one of the most interesting horror releases of 2021. For our summer vacation we are taking a trip to the beach with the latest adventure from M. Night Shyamalan after his massive return to form over recent years. Ending our current cinema run for a few weeks is another sequel in a franchise that has brought us many highs and many lows to date. The Conjuring 2 was one of the first big cinema horror films we covered for the show back in 2016 and still one of our favourites. We’re celebrating our 250th show in style. Finally. After all the months waiting. All the delays. All the times we’ve had to avoid the trailer in cinemas. We have finally seen A Quiet Place Part II. The big one has finally arrived! After waiting for over a year our return to the cinema just so happens to be with a film we’ve been dying to see from the moment the first trailer dropped. So many questions are about to be answered regarding Chris Rock as a serious actor, Darren Lynn Bousman returning to the franchise that made him, a Saw film without Jigsaw etc. But most importantly, is it any good? After we had so much fun talking about Wes Craven recently and having a bad experience with on demand horror last week we decided to continue our ongoing series as we work our way through the great man’s entire horror filmography, break down the good and the bad and ultimately rank all the films. This franchise was seminal for us as young horror fans (especially the sequel which we’ll get to at a later date) and we go over everything from amazing dog actors to the stunning finale that leaves us breathless every time. Last year we did 4 retrospective shows on the Scream films and had a great time. So much so that we also wanted to occasionally look back on other Wes Craven films and rank them as we go every so often when we have a quiet week until we eventually have SHB’s definitive Ranking Wes Craven list of all his films from top to bottom.
