This is it. The big one. After many outside factors trying to take us down throughout most of December; we are finally here to chat about the year that was 2023. Certainly a year filled with highs and lows. The main event as always is our top ten where we rank and order the best horror films this year had to offer. We then give out our individual awards such as Best Death and see just how much TV dominated this year. And ending the show we have a big announcement regarding the future of this very podcast. You already know the drill. We love Saw and have spent so much time debating this franchise over the years on this very show. From the highs of the first 6 films to the lows of the recent films; we’ve really been through the ringer with this one. But we can’t help but keep coming back for more. With the end of the year in sight we are back with one of the last new horror films we’re covering this year and one that we’ve been wanting to see since it’s announcement last year. A comedy horror centred around the hell that is Black Friday is a perfect premise and with some added Bruce Campbell for good measure surely you can’t mess this up? Check out our verdict now on whether this film can join the ranks of plenty of great horror comedies we’ve seen this year. With just one big cinema horror release left for the year and a few weeks to fill before then; we go back to a film that has been on our backlog for many months. Demonic sees the return of Neil Blomkamp in a much smaller project than we’re used to with this director with a concept that blends sci-fi and horror in a very Black Mirror-esque way. We give our verdict on one of the last films before we send off this year in style. Elsewhere this week; Last Night in Soho is coming to digital services earlier than expected which prompts us to look back on the year for cinema horror and see what’s been the biggest successes and failures at the box office in 2021. Ending the week Mike gives his thoughts on the return of Dexter and we chat all about that crazy last episode of Chucky.

Whilst we’re not ready to fully move on from Last Night in Soho mentally just yet we must as the train keeps rolling on with yet another cinema horror release that actually came out the same day. Antlers has been one of the most heavily delayed genre releases of recent years and has finally hit the big screen and promises some original horror in the form of an emotionally driven creature feature. We dissect this, at times, intentionally depressing film and give our verdict on whether it was worth the long wait or not. Elsewhere this week, Stranger Things finally gets a release window of Summer 2022 and a final teaser. And ending the show we discuss season 3 of Creepshow that has now ended and where we feel the show can go from here.

Moments like these don’t come long often so it’s time to savour it. One of our favourite directors is making a horror film. That was all we needed to know. And now, after all these years, we’ve seen it and get to talk all about it. We really hope you enjoy this film discussion on a truly unique film. Sandwiched in between big cinema horror releases is another slasher courtesy of Netflix that very much piqued our interest with a great trailer portraying a killer who wears a mask of the face of their victims. There has truly been a resurgence within the slasher sub genre recently and with Scream returning very soon, let’s see how this one can fare within the crowd. The Shape is back. After many delays one of the most iconic horror villains is back and ready to cause a bloody mess at the box office. Following on from 2018’s aptly named Halloween; this follow up apparently has lots of kills before it inevitably ends next year. We give our verdict on possibly the biggest horror release of 2021. Elsewhere this week; Mike Flanagan continues to be the busiest man in horror and his next project seems like a dramatic departure. Psycho Goreman could return but we need your help. Boy do we have a lot to discuss this week. Of course our main course is the return of one of our favourite franchises that got us back into horror prior to starting this podcast. The return of V/H/S is long overdue and we go over whether this injects new life into the series or is another miss like Viral was. Elsewhere this week; we have two of the biggest trailers of the year to discuss as two of our favourite franchises are returning in the coming months. We give our first reactions to both Scream and Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. The upcoming Hellraiser film gets some casting news that caused some controversy online over the past week.
