301: Consequences of Leadership

Episode 301

lundi 16 novembre 2020Duration 01:00:02

Kirk as captain.

Among Starfleet captains, Kirk certainly had his own style. Were the long-term effects considered during the decision-making process, or were they off-the-cuff style decisions? How was the crew affected by the choices of one person in relation to the Prime Directive and other measures set in place by Starfleet? Would we make the same decisions as Kirk when faced with the same choices?

In this episode of Standard Orbit, host Hayley Stoddart is joined by Mike Richards to discuss the leadership of Captain Kirk and how his decisions led to the results—whether positive or negative—that affected the crew of the Enterprise and others.

Episode 300

mardi 3 mars 2020Duration 02:14:34

Star Trek V: The Final Frontier - The Audio Drama.   Star Trek V: The Final Frontier is a rather infamous film both in and out of Star Trek circles,  but we here at Standard Orbit happen to love it. In celebration of our 300th episode, hosts Ken Tripp, Zach Moore and Hayley Stoddart decided to do something special: an audio drama of The Final Frontier based on an earlier draft of the film's script (featuring the rock monster) and with the dream casting of the film, Sean Connery as Sybok. We can't thank our fellow hosts and listeners who participated in this massive undertaking enough: Tony Robinson, John Mills, Lee Sargent, Justin Oser, Richard Marquez, Amy Nelson, Duncan Barrett, Brandon-Shea Mutala, Zachary Fruhling, Norman C. 198: The Continuing Mission

Episode 198

lundi 27 novembre 2017Duration 01:23:51

Star Trek Continues. The Original Series quite infamously was never able to complete the five year mission that was promised in its opening credits. This sly attempt by Gene Roddenberry to will a five season run of his new series into existence by mere narration was unfortunately not to be. In recent years many Star Trek fan productions have taken it upon themselves to complete the mission, and this month Star Trek Continues has done exactly that. In this episode of Standard Orbit, Zach Moore is joined by host of Continuing Mission Tony Robinson to discuss this fan favorite fan series now that it's concluded, how it fits in with TOS, and also tease an exciting new collaboration coming soon to Trek.fm! The Making of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. In this episode of Standard Orbit, hosts Ken Tripp and Zach Moore are joined by Tony Black to discuss the making of Star Trek V as told by William Shatner and his daughter Lisabeth in their respective books "Captain's Log: William Shatner's Personal Account of the Making of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier" and "Star Trek Movies Memories." We talk the cons and pros of what many consider to be the worst film of the franchise, the many obstacles that Shanter faced trying to translate his ambitious ideas to the screen, where we rank The Final Frontier in the Star Trek movie canon, and much more. Standard Orbit 196: Star Trek Origins: Season 3  Iconic Star Trek in Season 3. We've had an ongoing miniseries on Standard Orbit we've called "Star Trek Origins" where we explore certain touchstones both real and fictional that became defining focal points for the franchise for years to come. You can find these previous discussions in Standard Orbit 139, 145 and 161 and this week we're back at it again! In this episode of Standard Orbit, host Zach Moore is joined by author and critic Darren Mooney to examine how the often maligned third season is responsible for a lot of what we now deem iconic Star Trek. Episode 195

lundi 6 novembre 2017Duration 01:21:59

Standard Orbit 195: It's A Death Machine   The Transporter. The transporter is at the same time one of the most remarkable and terrifying pieces of technology featured in Star Trek. It dissembles its subjects at a molecular level, converts their matter into energy, then reassembles as matter at their new location. Would you be willing to go through the process? In this episode of Standard Orbit, hosts Ken Tripp and Zach Moore discuss if they themselves would be willing to use a transporter, whether or not it is a death machine, and its many uses that go beyond what was intended by Starfleet engineers.
