Discovering Trek: The Star Trek Universe Companion – Details, episodes & analysis

The amazing Final Season of Star Trek: Picard has concluded and, now, we begin our look at this amazing reunion of the crew of the Enterprise D.  Beverly Crusher is in trouble and, in reaching out to Jean-Luc Picard, she tells him to “trust no one,” including Starfleet.

Star Trek: Picard’s final season brings together some iconic characters for an amazing last mission together, and we’re going to kick off our analysis of it with episode 1, titled “The Next Generation.”  Hey…that’s got a nice ring to it.

Bill Smith & Jamie Rogers will break it down. It’s the start of a wild ride in Season 3 and we’re glad you’re here to take it with us on Discovering Trek: THE Star Trek Universe Companion, presented by FanSets!

In this special breaking news edition of Discovering Trek, Bill Smith, Ron Wrobel, and Mike Bovia discuss the announcement by Paramount+ that Star Trek: Discovery will end after Season 5.

This week on Lower Decks, during an away mission, Boimler, Mariner and Rutherford face their ultimate fantasies as well as their most feared nightmares, all thanks to some special glowly rocks that harness thoughts and memories. Our crew soon discovers that not all is as it appears to be and it is actually up to Tendi (struggling on her first day of Senior Science Officer training) to save the day and uncover the devious plan of the planets inhabitants!

Dan and Kasey welcome Bill back to the table as Sara is away this week, and they all have a great discussion about the third episode of Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 3 - "Mining The Mind’s Mines"!  Grab your bat'leth armed Killer Klingon Klown from Outer Space or your giant Borg Snake and join us for some great fun and discussion!

This week on Forget Me Not - the incredibly emotional 4th episode of Star Trek Discovery - the USS Discovery heads for the Trill home world!  When they arrive, Burnham and Adira go to the surface to see if the Trill can help them unlock Tals past hosts memories.  After a very awkward first encounter with the Trill, Adira is brought to the Caves of Mak'ala in the hope of joining the Circle!

Meanwhile, back on the ship, Saru is trying to think of a way to help his crew unwind.  He decides on inviting his senior staff to dinner, but it backfires when the stress and tension that everyone - especially Detmer - is feeling boils over!

Dan, Bill and Kasey sit down to talk about the fourth episode of the season!  Was the episode a thumbs up for each of them?  Who received their special Starfleet Commendations, what did we discover about own own humanity and who cried like a baby at the emotional journeys in the episode?  Join us for a wonderful discussion as Adira faces her fears and the Discovery crew face off against one another!

This week on People of Earth - the 3rd episode of Star Trek: Discovery Season 3 - Burnham is finally reunited with the USS Discovery and informs the crew of her research over the past year.  She has discovered a 12 year old transmission from a Starfleet Admiral regarding the Federation.  Newly promoted Captain Saru orders the ship to head to Earth to investigate.  When they arrive, the do not receive the welcome they had hoped and to make matter worse, a band of Dilithium Raiders shows up and threatens the Discovery and the United Earth Defense Force!

Meanwhile, a young EDF inspector has a keen interest in the "antiquated" USS Discovery and requests to stay onboard as part of the crew.  It seems she has unique information about the mysterious Admiral and is not all that she appears to be. 

Dan, Bill and Sara sit down to talk about the third episode of the season!  Did they all like the episode?  Who received their special Starfleet Commendations, and what did we discover about own own humanity?  Join us for a wonderful discussion as the USS Discovery returns home for the first time in 1000 years and is promptly told to leave!

This week on Far From Home - the 2nd episode of Star Trek: Discovery Season 3 - the USS Discovery and her crew arrive in the future and immediately crash land on an unknown planet.  While most of the crew begin repairs on the ship, Saru and Tilly head out for a potential First Contact mission at an establishment known as "The Colony" and things do not go as well as they hoped.

Meanwhile, back on the ship, Stamets is still recovering from the severe injury he sustained during the wormhole jump, but he risks his life to assist with the important repairs before parasitic ice envelops and destroys the ship!

Dan and Bill welcome back Kasey Shafsky to Discovering Trek and  sit down to talk about the second episode of the season!  How scary was this weeks villain ?  Who received their special Starfleet Commendations, and what did we discover about own own humanity?  Join us for a wonderful discussion as the USS Discovery comes through the wormhole and start to look for Burnham!

After 18 months, we finally welcome back Star Trek: Discovery and its Season 3 premier episode That Hope Is You.  Michael Burnham arrives 930 years in the future and discovers things are not what she had hoped.  She has crash landed on an unknown planet, the USS Discovery is missing and she doesn't know who to trust.  A local currier, Book, seems willing to help, but is he all he appears to be?  Plus, Michael is devastated to learn that the Federation no longer exists after a catastrophic event called "The Burn" destroyed all dilithium in the known galaxy!

This week on Star Trek: Lower Decks, Mariner is ordered by the Captain to attend counseling sessions and she is NOT happy. She ends up hijacking Boimler's holodeck program and creating an adventure where she plays the villain Vindicta and goes on a murderous rampage against the crew and Captain Freeman! She recruits Tendi and Rutherford to be part of her crew while Boimler tries to figure out how to impress the REAL Captain Freeman for an upcoming interview.
