Summerween anyone? Yes, it's a horror movie review in July, and what a delight it is to get Sophie's thoughts on Paul's favourite movie of 2024, The Substance - starring Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley and Dennis Quaid.

This episode is in place of the annual themed birthday special we've had since we started the show, but we wanted to release it as we felt it a worthy discussion of body horror, gender politics, and the price of fame. Hope you enjoy, and we'll speak to you soon!

As the month of 'Ani-May' draws to a close. we asked the Patreons to pick from two Mamoru Hosoda movies, and this one won by a landslide (although it is only technically two-thirds a Hosada film...) Paul, as you may know, is a big fan of Pokémon - and Digimon is another favourite monster franchise he grew up with and still embraces to this day. In our third installment of 'Ani-May', we decide to both check out A Silent Voice: The Movie (or Koe no Katachi, lit. 'The Shape of Voice) for the very first time. We love Japan, and we love anime - so this month's episodes are soley focused around ones Sophie hasn't seen, and what we've to witness for the first time! To kick things off with our cleverly titled theme - that being 'Ani-May' - we went to the cinema to see the new Makoto Shinkai movie Suzume - or Suzume no Tojimari in it's full Japanese title (lit. A rare incident has occured where Paul is seeing a film Sophie has already seen - which was one of the two Melissa McCarthy movies that the Patreons picked from.
