(LSSO), a Legal Lean Sigma Green Belt and she is active in the Legal Marketing Association, most recently serving as co-chair for the Northeast Region Conference. This episode, Megan & Jen are joined by Aliza Shatzman, where she talks about the long-standing issues clerks have faced and how her team at The Legal Accountability Project is working to change that.

Aliza Shatzman is the President and Founder of The Legal Accountability Project, which works to ensure positive clerkship experiences and support those who face challenges.

Aliza graduated from Washington University in St. Louis School of Law in 2019, aspiring to be a homicide prosecutor. She clerked in D.C. Superior Court for trial experience and insight into judicial decision-making.

Law schools promote clerkships as prestigious, mentorship-driven opportunities. However, Aliza encountered the stark reality: a power imbalance that silences clerks, lack of workplace protections, and judges’ lasting influence over careers.

Her experience of gender discrimination, harassment, and retaliation derailed her aspirations. She later testified before Congress, exposing how federal judges are exempt from Title VII, leaving clerks without legal recourse.

From this, The Legal Accountability Project was born.

Today, we are doing something a little different in honor of International Women's Day (IWD) on March 8th.

For those who are not familiar with the origins of International Women's Day (IWD) it has been observed since the early 1900's. The history of International Women's Day (IWD) includes the first National Woman's Day in 1909, the first IWD in 1911, and the UN's involvement starting in 1975. Controversy clouds the history of International Women’s Day. According to a common version of the holiday’s origins, it was established in 1907, to mark the 50th anniversary of a brutally repressed protest by New York City’s female garment and textile workers. But there’s a problem with that story: Neither the 1857 protest nor the 50th-anniversary tribute may have actually taken place.

She runs her own executive coaching and leadership consulting company with a focus on professional working parents. She is a clinical psychologist with an active private practice and a certification in Perinatal Mental Health, a certified executive & leadership coach, a RETAIN™ certified parental leave coach, and a consultant that addresses working parent policy at the corporate level. 

While at Harvard, Anne made a pivot after her second child to focus more directly on supporting women and mothers in their career and personal growth. 

Anne offers parental leave, executive and group coaching for women and because she is a licensed clinical psychologist, she also provides individual therapy for adults in the Cambridge, MA area.
