85. Secrets of a Trust Fund Baby: Renting is a power move

lundi 25 septembre 2023Duration 18:10

In this episode of Save 6 Figure with Gina Knox, Gina brings back the popular series "Secrets of a Trust Fund Baby," Gina dives into the financial power move of renting. She begins by debunking the common misconception that renting is equivalent to throwing money away. Gina emphasizes that owning a home comes with numerous expenses that don't contribute to equity, such as property taxes, mortgage interest, and repairs.

As a renter, Gina highlights the benefits of having a fixed monthly rate and not being responsible for unforeseen maintenance costs, which can be substantial. She uses her own experience as an example, where her landlords had to cover a $15,000 HVAC replacement, a cost she didn't have to bear. Gina then presents a compelling case by doing a 30-year financial projection, showing how a renter who invests the money saved on homeownership expenses can potentially amass a substantial portfolio.

She challenges the traditional narrative that homeownership is the ultimate path to wealth-building, emphasizing that renters can achieve financial success by investing wisely. Gina encourages listeners to consider their financial goals and desires before deciding to buy a home, emphasizing that renting can indeed be a powerful financial move.
