Short Time Wrestling Podcast – Details, episodes & analysis

Back on May 8, 2009, the Wrestling 411 podcast with Kyle Klingman and Jason Bryant was running through its first (And only) season. A senior from Graham High School in Ohio named David Taylor would win the 2009 Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award from the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. Taylor had signed with Iowa State, but Cael Sanderson had a few week prior left Iowa State to take over at Penn State. At the time, Taylor didn’t yet know where he was publicly going to go, although most assumed he would follow Sanderson to Penn State.
 
This interview is from during Taylor’s senior year in high school. Taylor recently finished with a bronze medal at the non-Olympic world championships in Tirana, Albania, which most believe was his last competitive tournament. Taylor now takes over as the head coach at Oklahoma State. Enjoy this throwback from 2009.

And before we begin, congrats to Shane Sparks, who saw his Atlanta Braves with the World Series on Tuesday night, beating the cheating Houston Astros, who are cheaters. They cheated. That’s the bar for Houston. Now, Night of the Lepus on TBS. 

I used to mention what beverage I might be having on the old show, I might do it again, but I might do it now, it’s a Dark Fatha 2021 from Bent Brewstillery in Roseville, Minnesota. Just got released on Saturday. And yes, I’m still going to try to do these in one take.

The first Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s wrestling media day took place on October 26. With the addition of Avila and Friends, the KCAC will be sponsoring men’s wrestling and a qualifying tournament to the NAIA National Championships the first weekend in March in Park City, Kansas, site of the last two NAIA wrestling championships.

Hans Nickel of the KCAC will moderate media day with, in order of appearance, the following coaches.

Short Time Wrestling Podcast: Episode 680 - October 27, 2021

Zach Bogle started a current events wrestling outlet called Stalemates in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. With no wrestling, what else did wrestling people get to do to try to stay busy? It was like an extended offseason. Enter Bogle and Stalemates, which summed up the “Twitter tea” with weekly episodes, guests, goofy memes and a general breath of fresh air the wrestling world needed.

Stalemates also ushered in another wrestling card concept, with a lot of former wrestlers and weekend warriors mixing things up in the Stalemates Street League. The second iteration will be coming October 29 at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines. Fans can subscribe to Stalemates via Patreon (patreon.com/stalemates) to watch for $3.99. We get a little bit into Bogle’s wrestling background and the Stalemates origin story before talking bout social media, wrestling and general goofiness as most wrestling people do.

Army West Point assistant coach Scott Green is in Minnesota checking out the wings and weather and the local wrestling talent. He stops into the Mat Talk Online Speakeasy Studio to talk about his career and coaching experience and what it's like coming back to his native New York.

Green had a long coaching career in New York at the high school and collegiate level. After his first collegiate run at Binghamton University, Green took over at nationally respected Wyoming Seminary, a private boarding school in Pennsylvania. Green took Sem to new heights nationally. After a decade in Kingston, Pennsylvania, Green joined Kevin Ward’s staff at Army West Point.
