Oh aapni akha di taareef kardi hoyi dassdi hai ki oh jadd vi sheeshe nu vekhdi hai ta ohde noor naal sheeshe vich vi taredd pai jaandi hai.

In Punjabi, the word Shabaab means adulthood. In this poem written by poet Shiv Kumar Batalvi, he is expressing how someone feels if his/her love remains unfulfilled. Batalvi ji, playing with words very frankly, is saying that he wanted to keep his heart under control so that it does not fall for anyone this time. But the beautiful face of his beloved is so mesmerizing that he just wants to sit down and adore it the whole day.

Shabaab kaha jaata hai Jawaani ko. Shiv Kumar Batalvi ji ki likhi hui iss kavita mein vo apne dil ke jazbaat jaahir kar rahe hai aur bta rahe hai ki jab kisi ka pyaar adhoora reh jaata hai toh usey kaisa mehsoos hota hai. Shiv bahut hi sundar tareeke se apni kavita mein bataaya hai ki vo apne dil ko sambhaal ke rakhna chahte the, ki vo kisi se pyaar na kar baithe. Par unki mehbooba ke chehre par vo itney fidaa ho baithe ki vo bass harr vaqt usey dekhte rehna chaahte hain.

ਸ਼ਬਾਬ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਵਾਨੀ ਨੂੰ।  ਸ਼ਿਵ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਬਟਾਲਵੀ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਲਿਖੀ ਹੋਈ ਇਸ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੇ  ਜਜ਼ਬਾਤ ਜਾਹਿਰ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਨੇ ਤੇ ਦੱਸ ਰਹੇ ਨੇ ਕਿ ਜੱਦ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਪੂਰਾ ਨੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਤਾਂ ਓਹਨੂੰ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ।  ਬੜੀ ਬੇਬਾਕੀ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਖੇਡਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਬਟਾਲਵੀ ਜੀ ਕਹਿ ਰਹੇ ਨੇ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਿਲ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਜੋ ਕੇ ਰੱਖਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਯਾਰੀ ਨਾ ਲਾ ਬੈਠੇ।  ਪਰ ਓਹਨਾ ਦੀ ਮਹਬੂਬਾ ਦੇ ਚੇਹਰੇ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਇਹਨੇ ਫਿਦਾ ਹੋ ਬੈਠੇ ਕਿ ਓਹਨਾ ਦਾ ਜੀ ਚਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਬਸ ਓਹਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਵੇਖੀ ਜਾਣ।

Batalvi ji wrote this beautiful poetry reminiscing his love and the beauty of his lover. Generally poets compare their loved ones to Sun and Moon, but Batalvi ji chose to reflect his love by saying that the world looks as beautiful as his lover. He penned down this creation decades ago, but simple strokes of poetic brilliance left on paper by Batalvi ji still inspires pop culture. This poetry is also an inspiration for a popular bollywood film song - Love Aaj Kal (2009) Song Name - Ajj Din Chadheya . 

Batalvi ji ne aapni eh kavita aapne pyaar te ohdi khoobdoorti di yaada vich likhi si. Vaise ta kaviya nu aapne pyaar di tulna sooraj chaand naal hi karde hoye suneya hai, par Batalvi ji aapne yaar nu saari duniya naalo sohna mannde ne. Ohna ne aapni eh kavita kayi saal pehle likhi si, par aaj kal de bade saare geet aiho jehe ne jo Batalvi ji di ehna kavita toh prerit ne. Bollywood di film Love Aaj Kal da gaana Ajj Din Chadheya de bol vi Shiv Kumar Batalvi ji di ess kavita toh laye gaye ne.

ਬਟਾਲਵੀ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਇਹ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਤੇ ਓਹਦੀ ਖੂਬਸੂਰਤੀ ਦੀ ਯਾਦਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲਿੱਖੀ ਸੀ। ਵੈਸੇ ਤਾਂ ਕਵਿ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਦੀ ਤੁਲਨਾ ਸੂਰਜ ਤੇ ਚੰਨ ਨਾਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਵੇਖੇ ਨੇ, ਪਰ ਬਟਾਲਵੀ ਜੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਯਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੀ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਮੰਨਦੇ ਨੇ। ਓਹਨਾ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਇਹ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਕਈ ਸਾਲ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਲਿਖੀ ਸੀ ਪਰ ਅੱਜ ਦੇ ਜ਼ਮਾਨੇ ਦੇ ਬੜੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੀਤ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਨੇ ਜੋ ਬਟਾਲਵੀ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਤੋਂ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿਤ ਹਨ। ਬਾਲੀਵੁੱਡ ਦੀ ਫਿਲਮ ਲਵ ਆਜ ਕਲ ਦਾ ਗਾਣਾ ਅੱਜ ਦਿਨ ਚੜ੍ਹਿਆ ਦੇ ਬੋਲ ਵੀ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਬਟਾਲਵੀ ਦੀ ਇੱਸ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਤੋਂ ਲਏ ਗਏ ਨੇ। 

Ajj Din Chadheya

Batalvi ji ne ye kavita apne pyaar aur apni premika ki khoobsoorti ko yaad karte hue likhi thi. Aam taur par toh kavi apne pyaar ki tulna sooraj, chaand se karte hai, par Batalvi ji toh apne pyaar ko puri duniya sa sundar maante hai. Unhone apne ye bol likhe toh aaj se kayi saal pehle the, lekin aaj kal ke gaano mein kahi na kahi unki kisi na kisi kavita ki jhalak dekhne ko jaroor mil jaati hai. Bollywood ki film Love Aaj Kal ke gaane Ajj Din Chadheya ke bol Shiv Kumar Batalvi ji ki issi kavita se liye gaye hai .

In this poem titled Lucchi Dharti, Shiv Kumar Batalvi refers to Earth as immoral. He is talking about the gap society has created between the rich and the poor. He states the fact that the people who treat the earth as their mother and respect her are the ones who are often ignored and ill-treated. Mother earth always speaks in favor of the rich and no one bothers about the poor. Batalvi ji was very upset to see duality in the behavior.

ਸ਼ਿਵ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਬਟਾਲਵੀ ਜੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਇੱਸ ਕਵਿਤਾ - ਲੁੱਚੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਧਰਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਲੁੱਚੀ ਯਾਨੀ ਮਾੜਾ ਕਹਿ ਰਹੇ ਨੇ।  ਇਹਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹ ਸਾਡੇ ਸਮਾਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਏ ਅਮੀਰਾਂ ਤੇ ਗਰੀਬਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਫ਼ਾਸਲੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਗੱਲ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਨੇ।  ਉਹ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਨੇ ਕਿ ਜੋ ਲੋਕ ਇੱਸ ਧਰਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਾਂ ਮੰਨਦੇ ਨੇ, ਓਹਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਨੇ, ਓਹਨਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਧਰਤੀ ਕਪੁੱਤਾਂ  ਵਰਗਾ ਬਰਤਾਵ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਅਮੀਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੱਲ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਬੇਚਾਰੇ ਗਰੀਬਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਤਾਂ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੋਚਦਾ। ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਦੋਗਲੇ ਬਰਤਾਵ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਬਟਾਲਵੀ ਜੀ ਬੜੇ ਖ਼ਫ਼ਾ ਸੀ।  

Luchchi Dharti

Shiv Kumar Batalvi ji apni iss kavita Lucchi Dharti mein Dharti ko Lucchi yaani bura keh rahe hai. Iss kavita mein vo hamaare samaaj mein paida hue ameero aur gareebo ke beech faasle ke baare mein baat kar rahe hai. Unka kehna hai ki jo log iss dharti ko apni maa maante hai, unki izzat karte hai, unhi ke sath hi ye dharti kapooto jaisa bartaav karti hai. Hamesha hi ye ameero ke baare mein hi baat karti hai par bechaare gareebo ke baare mein toh koi nahi sochta. Duniya ke aise do-gale bartaav ko dekhte hue Batalvi ji bahut khafa the.

In this poem, Shiv Kumar Batalvi describes trees as his very close relatives and gives us a message to save the trees. Batalvi ji feels that these trees are like his family. His mind is so connected with them that he wants to become a tree in his next life and sing his songs like them. Hearing such words written by him, it makes us realise that Batalvi ji loved nature and according to him even trees are also poetic.

ਇੱਸ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਬਟਾਲਵੀ ਜੀ ਰੁੱਖਾਂ ਯਾਨੀ ਪੇੜਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਬੜੇ ਹੀ ਕਰੀਬੀ ਰਿਸ਼ਤੇ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਰੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾ ਕੇ ਰੱਖਣ ਦਾ ਸੁਨੇਹਾ ਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਨੇ।  ਬਟਾਲਵੀ ਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਛੋਟੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਰੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਵਾਕਣ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਨੇ ਤੇ ਓਹਨਾ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਰੁੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਇੰਜ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਅਗਲੇ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੁੱਖ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਆ ਕੇ ਰੁੱਖਾਂ ਵਾਕਣ ਆਪਣਾ ਗੀਤ ਸੁਨਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਨੇ।  ਓਹਨਾ ਦੇ ਲਿੱਖੇ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਬੋਲ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਰੁੱਖਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਸੋਚ ਕੇ ਜ਼ਜ਼ਬਾਤੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ।

Rukh

Iss kavita mein Shiv Kumar Batalvi ji paedo ko apna behad kareebi rishta bataa rahe hai aur humein paedo ko bachaane ka sandesh de rahe hai. Batalvi ji inn chhote badey paedo ko apna parivaar maante hai. Unhe paedo se itna lagaav ho chuka hai ki vo apne agle janam mein ek paed bankar iss duniya mein aana chahte hai aur paedo ki hi tarah duniya ko apna geet sunana chahte hai. Unki likhi ye kavita kisi ko bhi paedo ke baare mein soch kar jazbaati kar degi.

Shikra 

Shikra is a Punjabi word for a bird. In this poetry, Shiv Kumar Batalvi depicts his lover as a bird who came into his life but suddenly flew away one day. He is mesmerized by the beauty of his beloved and he is sharing his feelings with his mother. This poem reflects the sorrow he felt when his lover went away from him, leaving him alone in spite of all the efforts he made.

Shikra

Punjabi mein shikra ka matlab hota hai ek panchi. Shiv Kumar Batalvi ji ki iss kavita mein vo jis ladki se pyaar karte hai usey ek panchi keh rahe hai jo daana chugta hua aaya aur achanak se ek din udd ke kahi door chala gaya. Vo shikre jaise apne yaar ke baare mein apni maa ko bata rahe hai ki uski aankhein, uske bol, uss se judi har baat beyhadh sundar hai. Badi saadgi se unhone apne dukh ke baare mein bataya hai ki unhone apne yaar ke liye bohot kuch kiya, lekin phir bhi vo unse duur chala gaya.

ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਿਕਰਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਪੰਛੀ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।  ਸ਼ਿਵ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਬਟਾਲਵੀ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਇਸ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਯਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਪੰਛੀ ਕਹਿ ਰਹੇ ਨੇ ਜੋ ਦਾਣਾ ਚੁੱਗਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਆਇਆ ਤੇ ਅਚਾਨਕ ਤੋਂ ਇਕ ਦਿਨ ਕਿੱਥੇ ਦੂਰ ਉੱਡ ਗਿਆ । ਉਹ ਸ਼ਿਕਰੇ ਵਰਗੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਯਾਰ ਬਾਰੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੱਸ ਰਹੇ ਨੇ ਤੇ ਓਹਦੇ ਨੈਣਾ ਦੀ, ਓਹਦੇ ਬੋਲਾ ਦੀ, ਓਹਦੇ ਸਾਹਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਤਾਰੀਫ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਓਹਦੇ ਦੂਰ ਜਾਨ ਦੇ ਗ਼ਮ ਦਾ ਜ਼ਿਕਰ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਨੇ।
