Almost two years ago, Kristen joined forces with three other women, including her sister, to form Team Hericane Rowing. From traveling to the Netherlands to acquire their boat to hosting fundraising events across three states, Kristen and her team have tirelessly worked to raise the $100,000 needed for the race, with a commitment to support Planned Parenthood along the way.

As the race draws near, Kristen reflects on the profound impact of her experiences, from her time with Semester at Sea to her deep connection with the ocean through outrigger canoe paddling.

Yulia Conley, an accomplished economist and mathematician whose academic pursuits have taken her from the halls of Columbia University to the hallowed grounds of Oxford. In this episode, Yulia shares her enlightening experiences as a Semester at Sea alumna, where she delved into coastal policy and sustainability dialogues while sailing the world during her final semester of undergrad, courtesy of the prestigious SAS presidential scholarship.

This episode features a Spring 2014 voyage Japanese language boot camp led by Academic Dean Anne Kinney, Interport Lecturer Harumi Yamanaka, and student Daichi Ishikawa from McGill University.

Followed by an interview with Rhea Kattan. Rhea sailed on the Fall 2022 voyage; the first voyage back following the programs COVID hiatus. Rhea sailed as a gap year student, is a drummer, and all around musician.

This week features a number of stories from the African continent and, in particular Ghana. 

The first segment features Christian Lowe, recounting his 'Green Book Project' business, inspired by his experience on SAS and a number of stories that shifted his Worldview to where he is today.

That interview is followed up by a segment recounting a Semester at Sea and TOMS shoes charitable collaboration from Spring 2014 that took place in Ghana.
