| Trailer: Scripture Untangled | S3 Ep 5 | Amanda Jenkins | The Chosen: Understanding the Success Behind the Popular TV Series | 08 Mar 2023 | 00:00:58 | |
Well, the whole point of the show is to point people to Jesus. That's the whole point of the show, but then we're hoping that that lands them right back in Scripture, because that's how we can know Jesus. I do think that the show brings Scripture to life in a way where it had maybe gotten stale for some people. And so, all of a sudden there's this colour where it might have been a little bit black and white, but at the end of the day, it's the living Word. And it's more exciting than anything else you can be spending your time on. So that was the heart behind the extra content and the devotionals is, how can we take advantage of the gaps between the seasons to actually push people toward what matters because we are not the Bible? Dallas is the first to say: I'm not a pastor, and this is not the Bible. And if you think otherwise, you're going to be let down. So, you know, we're storytellers, and we're filmmakers. The Bible is the Bible and that's ultimately where we want people to land. She's the lead creator for The Chosen’s extra content, including The Chosen devotionals, Bible studies, and children’s books. She lives in Texas with her children and husband, Dallas, creator of The Chosen , an incredibly popular television series about Jesus. The Chosen is the largest fan-supported entertainment project of all time and has more than 500 million episode views and is available in 62 languages. | Trailer: Scripture Untangled | S3 Ep 4 | Where Scripture Comes Alive with Rev. Dr. Ross Lockhart | 01 Mar 2023 | 00:00:28
I would say that it's primarily through my mother that I learned a love of God's Word - watching her read it daily, inviting us into prayer around the table before meals, asking us theological questions, and really holding a reverence for God's Word and passing that on to both myself and my brother. Ross has served congregations in the Reformed tradition from Halifax to Vancouver as well as sabbaticals with The Presbyterian Church in Ireland. He is a weekly guest preacher in local congregations and Minister in Association at St. Andrew’s/St. Stephen’s Presbyterian Church in North Vancouver. Dr. Lockhart, who wrote the book, Christian Witness in Cascadian Soil, says that in Cascadia (Oregon, Washington, B.C), one has the opportunity to explore Christian community and evangelism in a secular environment.

| Trailer: Scripture Untangled | S3 Ep 3 | John Franklin | How Scripture and the Arts Intersect | 21 Feb 2023 | 00:00:54 | |
Art opens us to newness, to unexpected possibilities and the Gospel does the same...opens us to newness, the resurrection, the promise, a new heaven, new Earth. So, it opens us to newness and unexpected possibilities so I think there's this sort of parallel between the Gospel and the arts. One other thing I would want to say is that both the arts and the Gospel invite us to a posture of receptivity. What we like in our culture is control and management. Art says, listen, listen, look, receive and that posture of receptivity I think is essential for us if we're going to flourish as human beings. John is the Executive Director of Imago, a national initiative in support of Christians in the arts in Canada. He is based in Toronto and, before joining Imago in 1998, he taught philosophy at Tyndale College. Currently, he is an adjunct professor in theology at Tyndale Seminary and Trinity College at the Toronto School of Theology, University of Toronto. His special interest is in theology and the arts. He has served on the Board of Lausanne Movement Canada for 13 years and is Coordinator of the World Evangelical Alliance - Mission Commission’s Task Force on Art in Mission. Imago’s mandate is to affirm the artistic gift and to encourage and facilitate creative initiatives in the arts that will make a positive contribution to the Canadian cultural landscape.

| Trailer: Scripture Untangled | S3 Ep 2 | Brooke Nicholls | Intersection of Scripture, Worship and Song | 15 Feb 2023 | 00:00:54 | |
I realized that the Lord emptied me so drastically. So much that I had no other option, but to completely rely on Him. I learned in such a severe way that when I am weak, His power comes and through that makes me strong. You know, again, a verse that I have known my whole life His power is made great in our weakness, and I didn't actually know it, and I didn't know it, know it until I had to learn it and know it. And I guess I'm just in some way again, I hated that season, but I'm also like, really grateful in some weird, weird way because I learned that I couldn't do any of this on my own strength, nor was I ever meant to, you know. --- Today’s guest is Brooke Nicholls, a worship leader, Juno nominated and award-winning recording artist from Toronto, Canada. In this episode we’ll talk with Brooke about the intersection of Scripture and worship - how she has seen the power of the Bible both in her own life, but also in the lives of thousands across Canada. When Brooke is not at her home church, she's leading worship at different churches and ministries across Canada from coast to coast. Brooke has been named the Female Vocalist of the Year for the last four years at the Canadian Gospel Music Awards and her latest album, ‘Pursue’ was nominated for a 2020 Juno Award. Brooke released her first book in 2020 entitled, ‘Making Room’ which quickly became a #1 Best Seller on Amazon. Whether it be songs or books, Brooke was eager to continue writing, so she released her second book in 2022 called, ‘Faithful Then, Faithful Now: Stories of God's Faithfulness from Women Across Canada.' Brooke is married to Steve; together they love leading the local church and pointing people to Jesus.

| Trailer: Scripture Untangled | S3 Ep 1 | Brian Doerksen | Scripture and the Art of Worship | 07 Feb 2023 | 00:00:59 | |
Typically, when I'm setting a Scripture to song I'll open up on my laptop, six different translations in columns, and then I'll look for phrasing that seems to sing. And then where I can't find anything in the translations, I will paraphrase it myself. You know, and then some people get, you know, get really uptight, like: Oh, you don't want to change the Word of God! Well, that's actually not a very helpful way of thinking about it because every single time we read a Scripture or we read a new translation of the Scripture, we're interpreting it through even just the way we speak it, so we're constantly interpreting and paraphrasing, but we're respecting the source because we're going...our heart is to convey the dynamic equivalent of what the people in the first culture would have heard when they heard that Scripture to what our people and our culture needs now. But most of all, he loves spending time with his high-school sweetheart Joyce (they have been married for 38 years.) Brian & Joyce have four adult daughters and two adult sons with Fragile X Syndrome. In this episode, Brian gets very personal about his own faith journey, doubt, how he wrestles with Scripture to untangle it for himself, and offer it back to congregations in song. We think you are going to be richly strengthened by his reflections in this episode. Also, don’t miss the end of this episode where Brian plays a song for us that hasn’t been released yet!

| Trailer | Season 7: Episode 2 | Justin Brierley | Are We Seeing a Rebirth of Faith? | 30 Apr 2024 | 00:00:48 | |
I think sometimes the problem is that the Christian church can be answering the questions of 20 years ago, you know, basically responding to the new atheists and asking: Do you have any evidence that God exists? And you go off and have a, you know, an interesting philosophical, scientific debate. But actually, that's not...I think the questions that most people in the secular culture are asking right now about God. They're more asking: How do I make sense of life? How do I...give me a reason for getting out of bed in the morning. Why do I feel so depressed? So I think where we could learn from that, in a sense is that actually we need to be answering the question that people are actually asking. We could take a lesson from sort of looking at what the existential issues are actually. --- Justin's first book 'Unbelievable? Why, after ten years of talking with atheists, I'm still a Christian' (SPCK) was published in 2017. His new book 'The Surprising Rebirth of Belief in God' (Tyndale) was published in Sep 2023. Justin currently co-hosts the Re-Enchanting podcast for Seen & Unseen, and is a guest presenter for the Maybe God podcast. He has also recently launched The Surprising Rebirth Of Belief in God podcast documentary series. Justin is married to Lucy, a church minister in Surrey, and they have 4 amazing children. If you pick up a pen every day and you write down what you're grateful for, when you are in crisis, your soul will have a memory of what it is supposed to do. How can I give thanks to God in the midst of this valley and trial? Because ultimately what we need...can we position our soul to remember the truth? God is always good and I am always loved. Because when difficult things happen and the waves hit us, what the enemy of our souls can hiss: Is God really good now? Is God really kind? Does God really love you when this tragedy happens twice in your life? When you have a memory muscle, a gratitude muscle that knows that in crisis I keep giving thanks, what that means is that gratitude muscle will mean that you are strong in joy. And that if you let...don't let anything go ahead and steal your joy, because the joy of the Lord is your what? Your strength. | Trailer | Season 6: Episode 12 | Dave & Diane Toycen | A Journey Through Grief | 09 Apr 2024 | 00:01:04
In spite of the early loss of our daughter's life, somehow God was present there, and it was always amazing to me. Something would come up that would remind me of that and somehow get me over. In the end, death doesn't win. Obviously, it's a statement of faith. There's a lot of scientists that would say they can't prove that, but I think for those of us who have walked this trail of spirituality and having experiences of various kinds, there's good evidence that we're not making it up, that something's really happening that's going to shape our lives and give us the energy and the faith to walk through these hard situations and see the light rather than just the darkness.
