Dr. Brian C. Stiller (born 1942) is Global Ambassador for the World Evangelical Alliance and lives with his wife Lily in the Toronto, Canada area.

Stiller was raised in a Pentecostal minister’s home on the Prairies. Educated at the University of Toronto (BA in History), Wycliffe College (Master of Religion), and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary (Doctor of Ministry), he has received honorary doctorates from Briercrest College and Trinity Western University.

Following graduation, the Stillers moved to Montreal (1967) where he served as director of Youth for Christ, then as director of Toronto YFC, and finally as Canadian president of Youth for Christ (1975-83).

In 1983, he was appointed president of EFC. This provided him with a national profile as a voice for people of biblical faith. Within months of his appointment, he founded and became editor-in-chief of EFC’s national magazine, Faith Today and in time opened the EFC Office of National Affairs in Ottawa. By way of Cross Currents, a weekly national television current events program, as well as other media, his analysis increasingly was heard by Canadians at all levels of leadership.

In 1997 Brian became president of Tyndale University College & Seminary; leading the school through major restructuring. During his tenure Tyndale received university status from the Ontario government, a 56-acre campus was purchased, and a major capital drive lifted the schools into a new era of growth. In 2009 Stiller retired and was named president of the Tyndale Foundation where he served for two years. In July 2011, he was appointed Global Ambassador of the World Evangelical Alliance.

He is the author of 12 books. The most recent are An Insider’s Guide to Praying for the World and From Jerusalem to Timbuktu: A Global Tour of the Spread of Christianity.

His life mission comes from the time King David was rebuilding Israel. One group assisting him was described as those “who understood the times and knew what Israel should do” (1 Chronicles 12:32).

Trailer: Scripture Untangled | S3 Ep 5 | Amanda Jenkins | The Chosen: Understanding the Success Behind the Popular TV Series

Season 3 · Episode 5

mercredi 8 mars 2023Duration 00:58

Well, the whole point of the show is to point people to Jesus. That's the whole point of the show, but then we're hoping that that lands them right back in Scripture, because that's how we can know Jesus. I do think that the show brings Scripture to life in a way where it had maybe gotten stale for some people. And so, all of a sudden there's this colour where it might have been a little bit black and white, but at the end of the day, it's the living Word. And it's more exciting than anything else you can be spending your time on. So that was the heart behind the extra content and the devotionals is, how can we take advantage of the gaps between the seasons to actually push people toward what matters because we are not the Bible? Dallas is the first to say: I'm not a pastor, and this is not the Bible. And if you think otherwise, you're going to be let down. So, you know, we're storytellers, and we're filmmakers. The Bible is the Bible and that's ultimately where we want people to land.

---

Today’s guest is Amanda Jenkins, interviewed by Lorna Dueck. Amanda is an author, speaker, and mother of four.

She's the lead creator for The Chosen’s extra content, including The Chosen devotionals, Bible studies, and children’s books. She lives in Texas with her children and husband, Dallas, creator of The Chosen , an incredibly popular television series about Jesus.

The Chosen is the largest fan-supported entertainment project of all time and has more than 500 million episode views and is available in 62 languages.

Please enjoy this episode as we dive into the TV series, The Chosen and share with family and friends!

Trailer: Scripture Untangled | S3 Ep 4 | Where Scripture Comes Alive with Rev. Dr. Ross Lockhart

Season 3 · Episode 4

mercredi 1 mars 2023Duration 00:28

I would say that it's primarily through my mother that I learned a love of God's Word - watching her read it daily, inviting us into prayer around the table before meals, asking us theological questions, and really holding a reverence for God's Word and passing that on to both myself and my brother.

---

In this interview, listen to Rev. Dr. Andrew Stirling (Ambassador, Canadian Bible Society) engage in a conversation with Rev. Dr. Ross Lockhart (Dean, St. Andrew's Hall at The University of British Columbia) about the influence of Scripture in his life. Dr. Lockhart shares about his mother’s early faith influence on him and about how at the core of his identity as a baptized Christian, there is a deep love and reverence for God’s Word.

Rev. Dr. Ross Lockhart is the Dean of St. Andrew’s Hall at The University of British Columbia. He is also the Professor of Mission Studies at The Vancouver School of Theology where he teaches courses in missiology and practical theology.

Ross has served congregations in the Reformed tradition from Halifax to Vancouver as well as sabbaticals with The Presbyterian Church in Ireland.  He is a weekly guest preacher in local congregations and Minister in Association at St. Andrew’s/St. Stephen’s Presbyterian Church in North Vancouver.

Dr. Lockhart, who wrote the book, Christian Witness in Cascadian Soil, says that in Cascadia (Oregon, Washington, B.C), one has the opportunity to explore Christian community and evangelism in a secular environment.

Trailer: Scripture Untangled | S3 Ep 3 | John Franklin | How Scripture and the Arts Intersect

Season 3 · Episode 3

mardi 21 février 2023Duration 00:54

Art opens us to newness, to unexpected possibilities and the Gospel does the same...opens us to newness, the resurrection, the promise, a new heaven, new Earth. So, it opens us to newness and unexpected possibilities so I think there's this sort of parallel between the Gospel and the arts. One other thing I would want to say is that both the arts and the Gospel invite us to a posture of receptivity. What we like in our culture is control and management. Art says, listen, listen, look, receive and that posture of receptivity I think is essential for us if we're going to flourish as human beings.

---

Today’s guest is John Franklin, interviewed by Rev. Dr. Andrew Stirling. They’ll be speaking about the intersection of the arts and the Bible.

John is the Executive Director of Imago, a national initiative in support of Christians in the arts in Canada. He is based in Toronto and, before joining Imago in 1998, he taught philosophy at Tyndale College. Currently, he is an adjunct professor in theology at Tyndale Seminary and Trinity College at the Toronto School of Theology, University of Toronto. His special interest is in theology and the arts. He has served on the Board of Lausanne Movement Canada for 13 years and is Coordinator of the World Evangelical Alliance - Mission Commission’s Task Force on Art in Mission.

Imago’s mandate is to affirm the artistic gift and to encourage and facilitate creative initiatives in the arts that will make a positive contribution to the Canadian cultural landscape.

Trailer: Scripture Untangled | S3 Ep 2 | Brooke Nicholls | Intersection of Scripture, Worship and Song

Season 3 · Episode 2

mercredi 15 février 2023Duration 00:54

I realized that the Lord emptied me so drastically.

So much that I had no other option,

but to completely rely on Him.

I learned in such a severe way that when I am weak,

His power comes and through that makes me strong.

You know, again, a verse that I have known my whole life

His power is made great in our weakness,

and I didn't actually know it,

and I didn't know it, know it

until I had to learn it and know it.

And I guess I'm just in some way again,

I hated that season, but I'm also like,

really grateful in some weird, weird way

because I learned that I couldn't

do any of this on my own strength,

nor was I ever meant to, you know.
