| Does Your Salon Actually Need Paid Ads? | 31 Aug 2024 | 00:31:28 | |
You're a Salon, not a charity…
The world of marketing can feel overwhelming… you have emails, newsletters, the ever growing list of social media platforms and of course, ads! But is the time and money you’re spending on these marketing channels really worth it?
Or are you pouring money down the drain?
Marketing channels are there to market your Salon, but if they’re not bringing clients into your door (that rebook too!)… you may need to re-evaluate your marketing strategy. Because there’s no value to your business in spending hundreds and thousands of dollars a month on marketing if none of those new clients ever rebook!
Otherwise, you’re basically donating money to Meta like it’s a charity.
I’m excited to share this conversation I had with Belinda, the Ads expert who knows how to create ads that convert clicks into long term clients.
Here is Does Your Salon Actually Need Paid Ads?

| When Is the Right Time to Hire a New Team Member? | 24 Aug 2024 | 00:21:17 | |
If your Salon hits a growth ceiling… It's because of you!
Clients are coming in, your team is busy, you’re finally profitable but you’re not sure if you should jump and recruit a new team member before you need it. If you recruit team members too early, your growth might slow down and suddenly you can’t afford to pay them OR you recruit too late and your team feels overwhelmed and overworked… whilst trying to train someone new.
It takes 3 months to recruit and train someone…
So, in a perfect world, you would recruit someone 3 months before you need them. And I know what you’re thinking… “Larissa, I can’t see the future!”. But actually, you can… sort of. Your numbers will always tell you what to do.
If you’re wanting to grow in 2024 and beyond, you need to be 3 steps (or 3 months ahead).
I’m sharing a recruitment roadblock that an owner in the Salon Mastery Program overcame before she went away on holiday for 3 weeks! This is: When Is the Right Time to Hire a New Team Member?

| How to Master the Salon Sprint | 22 Jun 2024 | 00:29:28 | |
Have you ever tried sprinting on a treadmill? Now, not just any treadmill… one where you’re sprinting but can’t slow down or stop? I know what you're thinking,”Larissa, there’s no way that is happening”. But, the truth is, whilst you may not be physically sprinting on a treadmill non-stop, there’s another treadmill you’re sprinting on right now. The treadmill of a Salon Owner! I’m talking long hours, seven days a week, struggling to fit in time with your family (let alone your friends) and you haven’t had ‘me’ time in what feels like forever! It’s exhausting, just like running on a treadmill. Running yourself to exhaustion can lead you to feel constantly tired and unmotivated. The treadmill of a Salon Owner can have a serious impact on your Mental Fitness if you’re not slowing down every now and then. I wanted to share with you the key to managing your Mental Fitness so that you can be a better mum, wife, friend and Salon Owner. In today’s episode, I’m chatting to Natalie Tua from The Strengths Shed about How to Master the Salon Sprint. Here is why you should listen to the full episode:

| Your Salon Is Not as Irreplaceable as You Think | 22 Sep 2022 | 00:35:01 | |
What do you want your Salon to be known for?
Why should a client choose your Salon over the one down the road?
These are the questions you need to ask yourself if you want to stand out from the rest and ensure clients choose YOU and always return…
After all, we all BASICALLY offer the same thing, right?!
Thinking back to my early Salon days, I remember sometimes feeling like I had to do all the things and serve all the clients to ensure they had nothing short of the best experience.,After all, I had 7 salons within walking distance, so I felt like I needed to take what I could get…those clients were valuable, right!
I would spend my days putting out fires, taking on extra clients, and doing the absolute most to ensure everyone in the room was happy.
But then I realised, this isn’t sustainable. It was exhausting, overwhelming, and funnily enough, didn’t bring more clients through the door…
Janine Jarman aka the Queen of Perms, is the founder of Curl Cult, a product that has changed the technology and science behind perms. With over 20 years of experience in the industry as a hairstylist, educator, Salon Owner, and now CEO, Janine knows what it takes to create a unique product offering that people LOVE and will always purchase.
What is special about Janine’s success is that she offers a service that is not only scalable but one that solves an immediate problem for her clients. This means her service and Salon itself, are irreplaceable.
Janine is going to share with you her hot tips on how to make your Salon irreplaceable so that your clients always choose you over the one down the road.

| Work Less & Make More – Becoming a “Smart” Salon CEO | 14 Sep 2022 | 00:44:53 | |
Have you ever felt like: You’re working yourself to the bone: You’re busier than ever with clients, plus managing an ever-evolving team...
You’re hardly present with your family as work has taken over your brain space… but what makes it worse is you’re not growing.
But still, you end up saying YES all the time:
Or maybe you’re guilty of having shiny object syndrome…. Are you nodding your head right now? I know I’ve been guilty of this too… But this is a HUGE mistake. Because in reality, these are often the things that will halt forward momentum in our business. As a result, you take 2 steps forward, 2 back. Your business is at a constant plateau, and you get super frustrated because you’re BUSY doing ALL the things- so you start to wonder-- ‘why am I not growing?’ You get overwhelmed and burnt out… which leads to halting progress even more. Agh! It’s a vicious cycle. In this episode, I will take you through my secret formula to increasing sales by working less (for smart salon CEOs). If you’re overworking 30+ hours on the Salon floor, and want to create what I like to call ‘CEO discipline’, and have the time to move the needle in your business, then keep listening… Plus don’t forget to grab yourself a copy of the “4 Steps to Becoming a Smart Salon CEO” strategy. | Does Increasing Your Prices Make You a Better Salon Owner? | 07 Sep 2022 | 00:38:15
Does self-doubt stop you from increasing your salon’s prices?
You know deep down you need to put your prices up, but the thought of asking your clients to spend more just feels so daunting.
What if they push back? What if they leave and never come back because they can’t afford your services? How will you equip the team to handle these objections… when you feel nervous about it yourself?
Honestly, if this is you, then know that you aren’t alone. I know this is a huge challenge for so many owners.
But in reality, this holds Salon Owners back from success…and reaching their full potential.
Instead of feeling confident about your experience and your Salon’s prices, you instead have this overwhelming urge to compare yourself to other Salons, to discount your services, to apologise before anything has even gone wrong, all due to the fact that you’re worried that if you don’t, that client will go elsewhere.
This is why I want to introduce Ruby Lee, a wealth & expense business coach helping business owners shift their mindset to “I can” & “I will” instead of being a roadblock to their own success.
Ruby will share her strategies for getting comfortable with your numbers and profitability, so you can back yourself in moments when you may be doubting yourself or feeling insecure (because let’s face it, we all have these moments!) and continue to grow your million-dollar Salon.
Discover the REAL reason why so many salon owners feel too scared to raise their prices, and how to combat this in your salon, once and for all. Uncover your true worth and potential as a business owner, so that you can feel confident with your decisions, and truly grow your profit to its full potential…

| Motherhood & Salon Ownership: Is It Possible to Master Both? | 24 Aug 2022 | 00:39:32 | |
I see you…
You’re a Salon owner, but more importantly, a mother… trying to balance the juggle between spending too much time at work (away from your kids), and not having enough time to do all the things that you want to in your business.
Your Salon isn’t growing, because let’s face it, you barely have enough time in your day to touch your to-do list…, let alone work on moving the needle in your business. It feels like you’re stuck extinguishing little fires all day long!
And when you do find the space to work on these things, you feel the “mum guilt” creep up…and planning the next big thing gets replaced with the football final for your child’s team. It’s always either: “am I a good enough mother?” or “am I a good enough business owner?”, and you’re left wondering if you’ll ever be able to be successful in both.
Can you run a successful business, have the perfect family, and be the best partner, and friend… Is it even possible to master the art of having it all?
In this episode, I want to introduce Keri & Ashley, accidental best friends and hosts of Momtourage Podcast. Keri & Ashley are both mothers and successful entrepreneurs who have experienced the challenges that motherhood brings when you’re trying to chase your career dreams.
In this episode, you’ll find out motherhood hacks to keep busy salon owners (like yourself) sane as you juggle the business world and being a mum.

| If You Want Your Salon Team to Stay, Do This… | 18 Aug 2022 | 00:35:23 | |
When it comes to your salon’s team culture, pretty much every salon owner wishes for two things:
But I know that sometimes this can feel out of your control. Like, it can be hard to manage a team with so many different personalities, right? HOWEVER, what if I told you… it actually all comes back to you; the Salon Owner and what you stand for. It’s YOUR job to align and drive your team’s culture, front foot it and ensure what you stand for is constantly embedded into the culture… So whether you are passionate about your team specialising in one service, or having flexible lifestyle hours, or you value constant education and upskilling for your team; it’s your job to own this vision for your Salon. In this episode, I’m bringing in a friend of mine, Wade Brannon to share how you can cultivate a team culture that everyone wants to work for, and no one ever wants to leave. Wade is CEO and Founder of Pigtails and Crewcuts and is no stranger to Salon success, after growing his franchise to over 70 locations. I know you will find what Wade has to say about how to build a strong culture within your Salon, and hiring a dream team of stylists that live and breathe the vision you have for your business. | The 1 Leadership Mistake Every Salon Owner Should Avoid | 10 Aug 2022 | 00:18:42
The thought of your team leaving you for the Salon down the road is damn scary. Especially when you know it may be unlikely that you'll recruit someone new any time soon...
I’m pretty sure it’s every Salon owner’s worst nightmare… everyone leaving you, and you’re the one left to pick up the pieces.
Honestly, even with a team of 30, I still worried about this at times
So instead I focused on building a salon team culture that was so good, so irreplaceable, that my stylists would never want to leave.
Like, that’s the goal, right?
But when I see Salon Owners trying to do this, I often notice they make one big mistake…
In this episode, we are going to unpack this mistake, and I’ll share with you my 3-step leadership strategy which will help you build a salon culture SO good that your team never wants to leave…

| How to Triple Your Sales Without Employing Anyone New | 04 Aug 2022 | 00:34:14 | |
Sick of hearing your team say “same again jane?” with EVERY client?
The client just gets the bare minimum, and your team doesn’t think to take things further… The client only gets what they booked in for, not really actually NEED or what they didnt know, they always wanted
As a result:
And then they come to you, asking for a pay rise……. OMG, don’t they get it?! I know how frustrating this can be, and it’s a challenge so many salon owners face. But I believe owners actually make 1 mistake when it comes to leading their team to make sales. I know you want to achieve this in your salon, so in this episode, I want to share with you the 4 things to focus on in your business right now. Are you making the right decision?
You’ve finally nailed the perfect recipe for a great team, loyal clients, and systems and processes that make your life as the Salon Owner easier, so now you’re thinking “what next?”.
The creative entrepreneur inside of you is left wanting more (hello shiny objects!) which for a lot of Salon Owners, including myself, can lead to us doing crazy things like opening a second Salon.
After all, surely it’s just taking what you have working already and multiplying it all by two, right?
Well, it’s actually not always that simple…
I want to introduce you to the lovely Shelby Tarleton, owner of Pink Lady Lash in Austin Texas, and Host of “Lash Boss Radio”.
Shelby is a mother and a successful business owner, and has had experience opening a second salon of her own.
This episode is going to uncover all the myths around whether you should open a second location, plus reveal the 1 thing that nobody tells you about running two Salons at the same time…

| Creating Healthy Boundaries to Stop People Pleasing | 21 Jul 2022 | 00:31:42 | |
Do you find yourself saying YES to things that you would rather be saying NO to?
I used to be guilty of this myself. That’s right, I’m a recovering YES-aholic!
Like, it’s a fact…
As salon owners and creative entrepreneurs (and women in particular), we try to do it all.
In fact, we overdo it more than we’d care to admit. Often without even realising, we spend so much of our energy trying to please everyone, saying yes to everything that comes our way, and constantly putting ourselves last to ensure our teams, our partners, and our family are happy.
But what does this leave us with?
Not the feeling of success and fulfillment that we’d hoped for, but actually the feeling of burnout and exhaustion. And what good can come from you feeling like this?
So it’s time we ditch this endless cycle we’ve managed to get ourselves stuck in, and create a healthier, more sustainable lifestyle, so we can continue to reach success in our salons.
That’s why I want to introduce Sonya Stattmann - a business and leadership coach and host of the podcast “Women in the Business Arena”.
Sonya is going to share her tried-and-tested strategies for how to stop the monster of comparison and avoid burnout and overwhelm.

| How She Grew Her Salon to $1 Million | 15 Jun 2024 | 00:29:10 | |
My Salon just won’t grow…
Have you ever felt stuck in your Salon’s growth? You feel like you’re doing all the right things… you’re hiring rockstar stylists and therapists, you’re posting on social media, you’re hitting KPIs… but the needle just won’t move? So you begin to feel lost and not sure what to do next because you’re doing everything ‘right’, it’s just not working!
A Salon Owner recently said to me “Larissa, I thought I knew how to grow my business but since covid… I’ve been stuck at $500k! How do I grow?”. But, it’s important to remember that what got you her, won’t get you to where you want to be!
It’s time to go back to basics and get some reps in! Sometimes, a little more practice in nailing the basics is what you need to push you and your Salon on the right path to becoming a $1 Million+ Salon.
In today’s episode of the Salon Owners Collective Podcast, I’m chatting with Salon Mastery The Boardroom Coach, Joel, about what it takes to grow your Salon to $1 Million.
Here is How She Grew Her Salon to $1 Million.

| What You ACTUALLY Need to Be Posting On Social Media | 14 Jul 2022 | 00:31:11 | |
Do you find it tricky to keep up with social media?
You know you have to do it, but you often don’t have the time, nor the energy to really put effort into it and prioritise it.
As a result, you can end up posting the bare minimum just to keep things ‘ticking along’. Hair transformation photo after hair transformation photo, before and afters of your team’s latest blonde transformation… you know the one!
After all, it’s just taking one more thing off your busy to-do list. And honestly, kudos to you for getting it done when you can.
But the problem with doing this all the time is that: You end up posting the same thing as everyone else. Every Salon does a full head of highlights, and every Salon has great before and afters. So what sets you apart?
And you might think it’s the great work you do, and that’s definitely part of it, but there’s more to social media than posting about how good your clients look!
Social Media in today’s climate is so overpopulated, so you need to find a simple way to set your salon apart from the rest.
Hint: it’s more simple than you think.
In this episode of the podcast, I want to introduce you to Braeley Davies, Marketing Manager and social media guru here at Salon Owners Collective.
Braeley has joined me on the podcast to share with you the 3 game-changing strategies that every salon owner should be using when posting on social media if you want to set yourself apart online AND most importantly, grow your client base through social media.
Keep listening to hear the incredible marketing strategies that Braeley has up her sleeve….

| The Salon Lifestyle Effect: “No Saturdays, No Late Nights Say What?!” | 03 Jul 2022 | 00:41:36 | |
The Hair & Beauty Industry has had an undeniably huge shake up!
Salons that were once thriving and growing are having to adjust considerably to suit the new industry climate… the ‘lifestyle effect’ is at large and nobody wants to work late nights or Saturdays.
Your team is more demanding than ever and you’re worried that if you don’t meet their demands, they’ll leave. But then if you do give in, you’ll end up back on the floor 50+ hours a week… and you’ll be left feeling resentful!
Sure, they can have the lifestyle they want, but does yours have to suffer?! It’s a total double-edged sword!
This is why I want to introduce to you, my two friends, James Carlisle & Lynden James, owners of Vivo Hair & Skin Clinic.
If there is anyone who is making it work against all odds…and for the most part completely unscathed, it’s these two.
With over 90 salons nationwide, they have their finger on the pulse and are implementing the big-rock strategies Salon Owners need to tackle this new ‘norm’ in our industry.
Even post-pandemic & pre-recession James & Lynden are reaching success, on a mission to reach 100 Salon’s by the end of the year.
Let’s hear what the boys from Vivo have to say about the industry and team in particular…

| Saying Goodbye to ‘Hustle Culture’ (And Why You Should, Too) | 29 Jun 2022 | 00:30:37 | |
It’s time to ditch the old way of working in the Salon…
And no, I’m not talking about perms and chunky highlights…
I’m talking about ditching the grind of working LOOOONG tedious hours in the Salon.
I’m talking about saying goodbye to the 'hustle mindset’ that can creep up when running a business…
If you are constantly feeling unfulfilled even when you reach success, or like you constantly have to work harder and do more to be successful, then listen up…
This is something I see all the time with Salon Owners (and have experienced myself!). As creative entrepreneurs, we are high achievers, always wanting something more in our business and our lives.
But unfortunately, this will get you a one way ticket to burnout. If you’re constantly looking for ‘what’s next’ without taking time out to stop, breathe, and turn around to see what you’ve accomplished, then you’re never going to feel satisfied or fulfilled.
So it’s time to say bye-bye to hustle culture and HELLO to working smarter (not harder). I want you to move on from always feeling overwhelmed, overworked and stressed, feeling like what you do is never enough. Because I’ll let you in on something…it is!
That’s why I wanted to bring someone in who has firsthand helped women all over the world overcome burnout, Brooke Taylor.
In this episode, hear Brooke’s strategies for how to build a healthy relationship with your career, how to overcome CEO-addictions and what it takes to avoid shiny objects when reaching success.
Keep listening to hear Brooke’s incredible success story and her incredible advice now…

| How to Break Through Self-Doubt as Salon CEO | 08 Jun 2022 | 00:32:56 | |
Have you ever had a defining moment in your Salon career where you knew you wanted to achieve more?
This may look like opening a Salon in a second location? Or taking on an educator or trainer role with a product company…
Whatever it may be, taking the next step in your journey isn’t always as easy as it sounds, right?
When presented with a new opportunity, you may feel hesitant about change, alone, and totally out of your depth to take the next step (hello, imposter syndrome!).
The fear starts to take over, and you start to question yourself, “Am I good enough for this?” “Can I even achieve this?”(I still have this exact conversation with myself all. the. time!).
Fear is something that can be self-sabotaging for CEOs, and you'd be surprised how often our beliefs limit our potential. In this episode, I want to shift your mindset around fear and entrepreneurship, to show you that it is totally normal to not have your sh*t together at all times, and to give you some strategies to harness this type of fear for good.
This is why I want to introduce you to the inspiring, Lindsey Schwartz.
Lindsey is the founder of Powerhouse Women Co - a community built all-around helping kickass business women succeed and go through entrepreneurship together (which is totally up my alley!).
Lindsey is an inspiration to all female business owners and I know you will love what she has to share about the most common limiting beliefs when it comes to pursuing our big ideas, and how to overcome them.

| Can Your Salon Survive Without You? | 18 May 2022 | 00:32:53 | |
Are you tired of being at the centre of your Salon?
You feel like the moment you step outside the salon doors, everything starts to fall apart. You have people ringing you, texting you, emailing you… what’s next, a messenger pigeon?! (It wouldn’t be a total stretch, right? 🤣)
As a result, the salon is on your mind 24/7… even when you’re not actually there! You want your team to be autonomous and self-sufficient… but you find that if you don’t do things yourself, they just aren’t done quite right… it’s a vicious cycle!
Luckily, you aren’t alone. As Salon Owners, we tend to be involved in every aspect of our salons, so when we try and step away from working in the business, we get trapped! How can the Salon survive a day without you doing all the thing?!
Not only this, but it can feel super lonely as a Salon Owner. You feel alone in your decisions, and the weight of the Salon rests on your shoulders… it’s a lot of pressure! This can become exhausting, and not sustainable in the long run. Something needs to change, right?
I want to introduce you to Shanalie Wijesinghe. Shanalie is the head of education at Boulevard, a business management platform that is designed to drive sales, automate workflows, and convert customers from visitors into valuable, long-term clients.
Shanalie is an industry expert when it comes to both working in the Salon and on the Salon and knows how hard it can be to separate the “me” from the role of CEO.
In this episode, you will discover how to separate the emotion from the important decisions in your Salon, in order to have a successful and thriving business.
So, if you’ve been feeling like your Salon may crumble without you being there 24/7, then let’s dive into this episode and hear what the lovely Shanalie has to say…

| The Rise and Fall of Solo Salon’s | 06 Jun 2024 | 00:42:28 | |
Everyone is going solo…
As an industry, we’ve seen a huge shift in stylists and therapists leaving to go solo. Why wouldn’t they? They get to make their own hours, pay themselves whatever they want AND they can work out of their own home!
But the grass isn’t always greener on the other side…
And yes, sometimes when our team leave to go Solo they come back… but there are actually a few things we can do BEFORE they even consider leaving! Sometimes, just talking to your team about what their goals are can be enough to make them stay in your Salon.
Team-based Salons are what keep our industry alive. It’s up to us as Salon Owners to make sure we create an environment where our team feel like they can grow and succeed.
I’m excited to share this conversation I had with James and Lynden from Vivo, who know all about The Rise and Fall of Solo Salon’s.

| Earn More & Work Less: The Salon CEO Way | 15 Apr 2022 | 00:33:45 | |
The dream is always to work less and earn more… right?
However, there is 1 key to achieving this ‘dream lifestyle’ that so many Owners make the crucial mistake of missing.
Are you guilty of this…
I see so many Salon Owners who strive for more, but have no idea of where they’re at currently!
If you don’t know, in-depth, the ingoings and outgoings of your business, then you run the risk of setting yourself up for failure! Of living day to day and never understanding why you aren’t growing… even when you have more clients on your books and a thriving team!
Not only this, but you then end up paying yourself last, which results in feeling underpaid and underappreciated for the effort, time, and energy they put into your business.
This becomes a vicious cycle, you become stuck and struggle to move out of this feeling of overwhelm and stress that comes with running your business. The CEO dream that you thought you would be living from the success of your Salon gets further and further away, until it seems unachievable altogether, right?
What is the purpose of being a business owner, if you can’t live the lifestyle you so wish for (and deserve!)?
This is why I want to introduce you to Erinn Bridgman. Erinn is a business and money coach based in Indianapolis in the US. Her mission is to help women not only understand their numbers and how to have a better relationship with money but how to build their wealthy women's empire…which is absolutely essential in growing a successful Salon business.
In this episode, Erinn is going to share with you her tips all about improving your mindset towards money as the owner of your business and how to feel confident in making financial decisions that better you as a person, employer, and Salon Owner…
Keep listening to hear all the incredible strategies up Erinn’s sleeve….

| Does Salon Marketing Actually Work? | 30 Mar 2022 | 00:34:06 | |
What if I told you that in order to scale your Salon business Growth, you need to nail these three things:
An effective marketing strategy, understanding your clients, and growing a team.
I see so many Salon Owners start to grow exponentially, but then all of a sudden hit a plateau. They can’t seem to move the needle in their business or have the momentum to keep this growth sustainable, especially with team challenges, family time and life outside of the Salon walls…
It can feel totally overwhelming, like you are in a business rut!
However, I believe that with an effective and consistent marketing strategy, and an understanding of what makes your clients tick, you can truly master the art of attracting and retaining clients in your Salon.
I know this is never as easy as it sounds. But if you can nail your client-attraction strategy, understand what makes your clients return (or not), and how to keep new clients coming in your doors without you stepping foot into your Salon doors…your Salon growth will be unstoppable.
This is something I knew I had to get my friend (and highly respected marketing whizz) Danny Tran on the podcast to speak about. Danny knows the latest and greatest about all things business, marketing, and attracting clients to your business.
Danny is the founder and CEO of High Stroke Media, which specialises in creating marketing and brand strategies for makeup artists all over the world (so, right up our alley!). His advice is tailored to the beauty and hair industry, so I know you will take away some amazing tips to use in the Salon, tomorrow!
So without further ado, let’s meet Danny.

| The Female Entrepreneur’s Guide to Salon Marketing | 23 Mar 2022 | 00:37:14 | |
You probably know the saying of throwing spaghetti at a wall and hoping it will stick. Well, are you guilty of doing the same with your marketing strategy?
In a crowded industry, failing to create a marketing strategy and a strong Salon brand could be the thing that is holding your business back from growing into a million-dollar Salon.
You know you need to do it, but the actual doing part isn’t as easy as it looks, right? After all, you are busy enough putting out fires within your team, dealing with clients, your own family, and global pandemics, where do you have the time to create a marketing strategy?
This is something I hear all the time from Salon Owners, and did you know…
Throwing offers and promotions across your Social Media channels without considering whether it’ll resonate with your ideal client and what outcome you want to achieve will only create a marketing message that seems inconsistent and confused…it is not going to give you the results you want…so hold fire on “posting” that 20% “off” offer for now!
What you need is this one secret strategy that will teach you how to grow your business by attracting the right clients to your Salon….
That’s why I want to introduce you to Taylor Rae. Taylor is a one-of-a-kind business coach living in Melbourne, who specialises in strategies ranging from client attraction to manifestation. Taylor works with women all over the world to implement marketing strategies that they need to propel their businesses forward and truly build the salon of their dreams.
I know Taylor’s advice about client attraction and marketing will be invaluable for your business.
Let’s dive into the episode.

| How a Risktaker Re-Defined Salon Success | 16 Mar 2022 | 00:44:37 | |
Have you ever had someone tell you that you’ll never achieve something? That being a hairstylist will only take you so far? That there is no way that owning a salon will give you a life of freedom or profit?
I did, over and over again when I owned my Salon, and boy was I determined to prove them wrong!
In our industry, everyone's journey to success looks different. Whether you begin your hairdressing apprenticeship at age 16 or age 30, whether you work in a small town or are a globally recognised stylist... Everyone has their own goals and ambitions and your journey is no less successful than the Salon Owner you see on Instagram, winning awards and flying across the world.
Success is actually how you define it.
And I believe that reaching success comes down to a clear plan for where you want to go, a roadmap of how to get there, and having the support behind you to achieve it…oh, and don’t forget to have a little fun along the way! (Did someone say ‘wine’?!).
So today, I want you to meet the globally recognised and ever-inspiring Patrick Cameron, whom I greatly admire for his dedication to this industry.
Patrick was born and raised in a small town right here in New Zealand, and after 34 years in the industry, is killing it in the UK as a world-leading long hair specialist.
He’s also a successful educational speaker with a training school for hairstylists and has worked with global Salon brands around the world, I know you will find Patrick’s story motivating, I know I certainly do! So, sit back, listen and enjoy!

| Legal Action: Two Words Every Salon Owner Dreads | 09 Mar 2022 | 00:33:16 | |
Have you ever had a client threaten legal action against you and your Salon?
As a Salon Owner, I’m sure you have had had a moment (if not, a few) where you have had to deal with a situation that has gone wrong, like a really bad colouring mistake, and in return had to deal with an unhappy (and frustrated!) client.
Something has gone wrong in the Salon; the service didn’t meet the expectations of the client and you are left to clean up the mess that has been left behind. Sometimes this may mean dealing with further legal action….Eeek!!
Unfortunately, that is just what happens when we work in a service-based, client-based industry, or is it?
Things are going to go wrong, humans are going to make mistakes, but it’s how we overcome these moments where things have gone terribly wrong, and have things in place to prevent them from ever happening again in the future.
I want you to always be prepared for the worst-case scenario, the “what ifs”, because it may be the thing that saves your Salon. We need to keep ourselves and our Salons protected from anything that may happen in the future.
So, this is why I want to introduce you to Reonna Green, a hairstylist turned Lawyer living in the United States - how inspiring is that? Reonna is the founder of “She Trademarks” - an attorney that specialises in the beauty and hair world, I take my hat off to her for this!
Because Reonna is so specialised in our industry (there seriously aren’t many hairstylists/ attorneys!) then I know you will soak up everything she has to say on how to protect your Salon when things really turn to sh*t.
So keep listening to this episode and hear what she has to say….

| The Secret to Unlocking More Time as a CEO | 01 Mar 2022 | 00:31:12 | |
Do you always feel like you have a never-ending to-do list?
Like nothing seems to get checked off, and as soon as that alarm goes off in the morning, you feel like you are already behind before your day has even begun?
Then, when your day does begin and you start ticking the things off that you want to get done, someone needs your help with a consultation, a client, or to run and pick the kids up from school, and then your list of priorities gets totally reshuffled.
You often find yourself lying awake at night, going through ALL the things you didn’t get done, instead of focusing on the wins of the day. You’re left feeling overwhelmed, stressed, and always behind with your business.
This is a feeling I know ALL too well. It is why I started becoming a Salon Business Coach, because I see it far too often. As a Salon Owner, you end up wearing too many hats and not having enough time to do ‘all the things’…in your business, with your team, with your family and god forbid you have ANY time leftover for you!
So, that is why I want to introduce you to the ever-so-lovely, Mridu Parikh.
Mridu is the founder of Life is Organised, a company that helps female business owners know exactly what they need to do to become more organised. Mridu is also a business coach, as well as a mum to her two babies!
She has almost the exact same career journey as mine, so I knew that what she had to say about helping business owners with balancing overwhelm and stress, with all your demands and distractions (with your team at work and your team at home), would be a valuable listen for you!
I know the advice that Mridu has on this topic will leave you with strategies to make your business and life more productive… so keep listening to hear what she has to say!

| Team Explosions: How to Avoid Them | 23 Feb 2022 | 00:21:44 | |
You need a strong Salon team in order to grow and be successful.
But having a team of stylists is only the beginning. You actually need more than just a strong team; you need a team of humans whose actions speak louder than words, who will support you when someone goes on maternity leave, who will cover for the team when others can’t make it in, and who will be able to manage the walls of the Salon, without you having to be there.
Because, as a successful Salon Owner, you want to be spending time away from your Salon, and to do this, feel confident that you can walk away when you need to and have an incredible team who will step up and have your back always...
Now we all know that this isn’t as easy as it sounds, right?
Sometimes it feels like you can’t catch a break with your team! You are constantly putting out fire after fire, and you are exhausted by the emotional rollercoaster that is managing humans. Well, I get you, and you are not alone.
For this week’s episode of the Podcast, I want to help you navigate through team explosions. Do you know the ones that make you feel vulnerable and unappreciated? The ones that could lead you to your business-breaking point?
I want to share with you my fool-proof, tried, and tested strategies that will prevent these team explosions from happening in the first place. These are strategies that I used when I owned my Salon and that kept things running like a well-oiled machine, even when I wasn’t working in the Salon.

| How to Attract Your Dream Team to Work For You | 18 Feb 2022 | 00:31:39 | |
Do you worry that at any given moment, your team may leave and you will struggle to replace them?
Like, every time you try to find a new team member or put out an ad, it never seems to work. It feels like no one wants to work for you!
You worry that you will never find any new team members, and since it feels like everyone is looking right now… your chances decrease even more! You feel like everyone else has all the team, and there is none left for you!
It has you constantly on tenterhooks; like you are being held hostage in your own Salon. ... and it’s frustrating because you feel like it’s out of your hands.
Somebody leaves and you have no one to move the clients to, so you get stuck doing them and going back on the floor.
You feel like you are in a constant revolving door, with every 2 steps forward comes 2 steps back.
Well did you know, you could actually be making some crucial mistakes when it comes to hiring.. mistakes I see SO many Salons making.
So, grab your copy below, press play, and let’s dive into the episode…

| “Is It My Fault My Team is Leaving?” | 10 Feb 2022 | 00:33:31 | |
Have you recently gone through a breakup?–and no, I’m not talking about a romantic breakup, I’m talking about a TEAM breakup!
I actually think a team breakup can be ten times more painful than an actual breakup...AND it’s even worse when they start dating the Salon down the road.
You’re left feeling confused, stressed, and yet again having to solve the problem of why your team isn’t sticking around. Not only that, but you have to spend the time that you were GOING to spend working on growing your business, finding someone to fill the role.
It’s a vicious cycle, and unfortunately one I see all too often.
In our industry, this seems to be the most common, neverending problem all Salon Owners face, so you aren’t alone! Why aren’t my team sticking around? Why have I spent so much time training them, only for them to leave 6 months later? Am I not paying them enough?
BUT, what if we shifted our way of thinking?
In this episode of the Podcast, I want you to meet Sheryl Lee-Woodhouse. I have known Sheryl for years and with her extensive background in relationship management and Salon recruitment, you know she is going to give incredible knowledge on what you could be missing when it comes to your team.
So, listen to the episode to hear her take on what is happening in the industry and what needs to change.

| What I Wish I Knew Before Opening My Salon | 02 Feb 2022 | 00:29:07 | |
This is the moment you have been dreaming about since you began your journey as a young Salon apprentice. You’re now ready to take the next big step in your career and begin your journey as the owner of a Salon.
This is something that I believe is the natural stepping stone in your career when you have been in this industry for years and have learned all the hands-on skills you want to. Now, you are after something more, to pursue a different passion, which may be owning a business. I was itching to dig my feet into something more and owning a business seemed like the perfect fit!
Whilst this is something that I’m sure you have considered at some point in your Salon journey, a lot of the time, people jump into it too quickly without considering all of the ups and downs of what actually owning their own Salon business may look like.
Sometimes, it takes someone else that has been in your shoes before, to let you know exactly what you are getting yourself into.
So, this week I knew I wanted to bring in my dear friend (and someone who I used to coach!), Louise May, to talk about what opening your Salon may look like for you. Louise is not only a Salon mentor, successful business owner, and Magazine editor of Hair Biz Australia, but she is also an incredible mother and wife to her family.
Learning from someone that has not only taken the same leap as you but has been successful in doing so, will be so valuable for you listening!

| Here’s What You Forgot About Client Rebooking | 28 Jan 2022 | 00:47:44 | |
Have you ever had a client walk into your Salon doors and then never return?
Their stylist is left feeling confused and slightly upset. A million thoughts are racing through your head. Did they not enjoy the end result of the colour, cut or style? Was it too expensive? What got missed?
In our industry, we have all had this happen before (I know I have!). It’s just something that you have to accept when running a client-based business…or is it? I want to show you a way to avoid this from happening that has nothing to do with the hair itself.
Just imagine you’re a client who has had the busiest day, work’s been hectic–or perhaps it’s been a tough day with your kids–and you come flying into your hair appointment at a new salon (that you almost forgot about). The hairdresser, who doesn’t know you, your hair, or what you like having done comes over, swings the chair around to the mirror, and starts working away.
At the end of the appointment, you leave the Salon, and whilst you may actually like what the hairdresser has done, you think to yourself that you won’t be returning any time soon.
Do you know why that may be?
I know I say this often, but as Salon Owners our job is always more than just hair.
It’s so easy to get caught up in getting your clients in and out of the Salon looking good, but what about actually feeling good?
This is something that I knew I had to get the lovely Natalie Varrasso to talk about in this episode. Natalie was practically born into the industry and has been a Hairstylist/ Salon Owner for 30 years. Natalie is not only the author of the must-read book “Love Your Hair: Discover your Best Hairstyle”, but is known in Australia for her unmatched customer service and incredible consultation settings.
So, let’s dive into the episode and hear all the secrets from Natalie on how to truly provide a 10/10 client experience in our Salons, that will ensure we have clients coming back through our doors each and every time!

| How to Become the CEO of Your Salon in 2022 (Part 3) | 21 Jan 2022 | 00:39:19 | |
Do you ever look at someone that is successful, someone that is winning at life, and want your life to be the same?
We’ve all been there. It’s part of being a human. But I also believe it’s part of our biggest downfall to success and growth.
Why? Because everyone’s story is different and everyone’s journey to success is different. Whether it is the salon down the road, or a Salon you follow on social media, everyone has gone on their own journey to get to where they are.
When I owned my own Salon, I would always admire other Salon owners and compare what their business looked like on the outside to my own. They looked like they had a perfect team, great clients, and even better, a perfect work/life balance.
I want to help you on your journey. I want to share my experience with you, not so that you can compare your journey to mine, but so you learn real-life strategies that actually work and that helped me grow my million-dollar Salon. These are things you can implement in your Salon, so you can become the successful Salon owner you have always dreamed of.
This episode is the third (and final) part of my Level Up series that walks you through my Salon Annual Planner. This episode will look at all areas of your business, your income, hours, mindset, EVERYTHING that influences your role as Salon CEO.
What are you waiting for? Let’s create a roadmap for success right now.

| Do You Have What It Takes to Be a Million-Dollar Salon Owner? | 06 Jan 2022 | 00:49:25 | |
You want to be a successful Salon Owner, right? Maybe even a million-dollar Salon Owner?
To live a lifestyle where you choose the hours you work, but earn enough to enjoy a life outside of the Salon, so you can spend more time with your family and doing other things you love?
It’s the dream….however, it’s not going to happen just like that! If it was that easy, everyone would already be there.
To get to this point in your career, it comes down to being committed and dedicated.
You have to build a business of clients that are loyal to your brand and will follow you and your team. You can’t grow a successful Salon without a team, so it’s crucial you gain respect in the industry from your peers and future team members.
It requires you to think beyond the chair. I don't know about you, but when I became a business owner, I wasn't fully prepared for all the roles I'd have to take on! Like, you have to be good at more than just cutting hair, right?! You have to create a culture that people are inspired by, with a vision that is unique.
If you want to get there, I believe with the right tools and advice, anyone can… and I want to show you how.
I am so excited about this episode. Antony Whittaker has been in the industry for decades, and his journey is almost parallel to mine, which is why I find Antony so inspiring and relatable. After being globally recognised for his work in the Salon, Antony began inspiring others on how to be successful business owners and not just hairdressers.
His knowledge and experience will be extremely valuable for you as we move into a new year, hopeful of achieving those dreams you have always wanted...

| How to Recover From Burnout | 22 May 2024 | 00:29:02 | |
What is your WHY?
As Salon Owners, we wear many hats; we’re managing our team, growing our business, serving clients, looking at spreadsheets and talking to your accountant and… wearing all of those hats, can start to feel overwhelming. Time with your family seems like a distant memory when all you do is work.
But, when you get stuck in a bubble of working in and on your business… literally dreaming about spreadsheets… you can start to lose your passion. Without a passion for what you do, working on your business can feel like a chore. It can become draining and you start to think… is this worth it?
This is why you need to remember your WHY!
When you feel like giving up, remembering your WHY can give you the motivation to keep going… even for 10+ more years. Remembering your WHY will help you feel energised and passionate about your business.
In today’s episode, I’m chatting to Sonia, who after 15 years of running a successful Salon… suffered from burnout. Sonia is going to be sharing her top tips and tricks for remembering your WHY. Here is How to Recover From Burnout.

| Reflecting on 2021: The Year the Salon Industry Changed Forever | 16 Dec 2021 | 01:00:46 | |
Last year, you thought you had seen it all.
You headed into 2021 hopeful, excited for a fresh start and to achieve big plans that had been put on hold. Salons started to reopen and we saw clients coming back through our doors. It felt like everything was slowly returning to normal.
However, we were in for a rude awakening! I think we all came to realise that our old “normal” was no longer. COVID is still lurking, and we had to start adjusting to this “new normal”. Even now, Salons across the world are still experiencing lockdowns and restrictions around vaccinations, and not knowing when it will end… or if it ever will! Will we ever get used to this constant feeling of limbo?
As a Salon Owner, you have had to get creative in finding new ways to generate income in 2021. Unsurprisingly, team was (and still is) a huge focus throughout the past year. I don’t think this will ever change in our industry.
It has been stressful, to say the least. But now things are starting to look up! Whilst we are facing new challenges when it comes to vaccination guidelines, we have at least turned a corner.
In saying this, I want to take this opportunity to reflect on the most popular and most downloaded podcast episodes of 2021… and I know you’ll find them super valuable, so you can head into 2022 with confidence and direction!
Let’s move forward into a new year, ready to have consistent business and clients (fingers crossed!) and focus on growing our Salons to be the best they can be!

| Surviving the “Christmas Cray Cray” Season In Your Salon | 09 Dec 2021 | 00:16:02 | |
How is it almost Christmas? I feel like the months go SO quickly, and let’s not mention the fact that it is almost 2022 (gulp!).
I’m sure you are holding out for a well-deserved break after the Christmas Cray Cray period has just about broken you! I remember when I had my Salon.... it would get down to that final week before the Salon shut for Christmas & New Year, and we would be counting down the days every morning. Getting that one step closer to collapsing on the couch and enjoying putting our feet up for days on end.
However, as you start to slow down and unwind, the Salon is the opposite. It can feel like mayhem!
With last-minute client cancellations, reschedules and long days, with barely any time to stop and take a break...it can be exhausting, to say the least.
So, I wanted to share with you my top tips for getting through this last week. To survive the last kilometres of your marathon, without totally exhausting yourself so that when Christmas day comes around, you aren’t a total zombie and you can enjoy the break you have so earned.

| What Is the Vaccination Etiquette for My Salon? | 04 Dec 2021 | 00:32:22 | |
I've always said that as a Salon Owner, you have to wear a million different hats at any given time.
And with COVID on top of that, we have been presented with a whole new set of challenges left-right, and center.
Funnily enough, most of these challenges actually fall beyond the normal scope of your CEO job role. And one of the trickiest parts is that we now have to navigate through the personal decisions of our Salon’s clients.
As an Owner, you must now decide who comes into your Salon doors based on whether they are vaccinated or not. I understand how anxious and nerve-wracking this situation will be for you, especially given how much you love and adore your clients.
All you are doing is simply following the rules, but it’s not as straightforward as that, is it? I know how you feel... and I wish it was that easy!
So… I want to help you. I want to show you how you can keep yourself,
your clients, and your team safe… AND still have people coming through your doors. Because after all, you still have a business to run.
That’s why, in this week’s episode I want you to meet Kristina Russell, a Master Hair Colourist and Expert Educator located in Sydney. You may actually know Kristina already, as she has been on the podcast with me before!
Kristina is not only a #GirlBoss when it comes to her experience in the Salon world, but she is also well-known for her refreshing take on COVID and the vaccine guidelines. Her expertise will be essential for you as you navigate the next phase of your Salon.
Kristina has established a process that has not only seen a positive response from her clients but at the core; is keeping herself safe. You will NOT want to miss what she has to say about this topic!
I want you and your Salon to come out of this strong, so I know that hearing Kristina’s secrets about navigating this new territory will be invaluable for you.
