I ran my first, and so far only, ultra marathon in 2021 - the 44 mile Classic Quarter - to celebrate a landmark birthday which was a few weeks before the run. This podcast started as a way of me learning how to do that - hence why it’s called Running 44@60. The adventure then turned into a book and as a business consultant it became both a business and running book and is available on Amazon via this link: 12 Business Lessons from Running an Ultra Marathon. My run raised over £7000 for Childrens Hospice South West Music Therapy programme and every book bought on Amazon generates another £5 for the programme. | Top Running Tips from New Running Coaches | 11 Aug 2024 | 00:10:54
I’ve recently, along with 11 others, passed the England Athletics Coach in Running Fitness Course This involved an initial weekend in Taunton followed by a couple of Zoom lead sessions before returning to Taunton almost 3 months later for a final assessment. In between the first and last session we had to work with an athlete on an eight week programme (known as a mesocycle) to help them reach a particular running goal. So I've handed over this episode to six newly qualified coaches who were on the same course as me to share with you their top tips to help you with your running. You're going to hear from Drew, Lorna, Tom, Ryan, Anita and Brendan A big thanks to them for their contribution not just to this episode but to helping you with your running and being great colleagues on the course. If you enjoy the episode then please do share it with your Running colleagues and it would be great if you left a review This is episode 154 of the Running 44@60 podcast and to celebrate reaching the 150 episode marker I'm offering listeners the chance to win one of six copies of 12 Business Lessons from Running an Ultra Marathon. | Jeffing the Brighton Marathon | 08 Apr 2024 | 00:37:47
For this episode of the Running 44@60 podcast host Trevor Lee recorded on the run at the 2024 Brighton Marathon on Sunday April 7th Trevor used the same Jeff Galloway method that he used in the 2023 Brighton half marathon when he was several minutes under his predicted time The method is to run four minutes then walk for one minute throughout the whole of the event, even though in those first few walks you get overtaken by seemingly hundreds of runners! Trevor’s target was to be under five hours, with a secondary target of being under 4:50 and a top target of sub 4:45 As you will hear the Jeffing method worked really well and Trevor came home in 4:42 The podcast episode will give you a real flavour for the fantastic atmosphere created by the thousands of spectators who lined the course The noise was absolutely immense in places and you will also hear that there was several groups of musicians and singers out on the course This will take some beating for being Trevor’s number one run of 2024 when he looks back on the year in December Here is the link to the results: Brighton Marathon Results 2024 And here is the link to the Brighton Marathon page if by listening to this you are persuaded to go for it in 2025 - its on Sunday April 6th If you’ve done something interesting, ideally that we haven’t covered in previous episodes, and would like to be a guest on the show please drop me a line to podcast@trevorleemedia.co.uk This is episode 143 of the Running 44@60 podcast. | Mike Samuels - combining Powerlifting and Ultra Running | 23 Feb 2024 | 00:28:01
Mike Samuels - combining Powerlifting and Ultra Running In this episode of the Running 44@60 podcast I’m talking to Mike Samuels about how he combines Powerlifting with Ultra Running We talk about how he got into both sports and how he combines them to get the benefits of one for the other. In Powerlifting Mike focuses on Back Squats, BenchPress and Dead Lift. For Ultra Running Mike has run six 100 mile races including the 2024 Arc Of Attrition 100 which he completed in 23:00:24 thus gaining the much sought after sub-24 hours black buckle and taking a remarkable three and a half hours off his time from 2023 Mike suggests that any runner seriously considers doing some strength work but advises on starting off small so that they achieve good form before hiking up the weights During the episode Mike mentioned two challenges he’s going to undertake in 2024: The South Downs Way in June And the Race Across Scotland in August If you’ve done something interesting, ideally that we haven’t covered in previous episodes, and would like to be a guest on the show please drop me a line to podcast@trevorleemedia.co.uk This is episode 141 of the Running 44@60 podcast. | #15: A running world record holder shares her top tips | 01 Dec 2019 | 00:20:46
Christine Anthony was part of the GB women's team that recently set a new 4 x 400m world record in Venice at the European Masters Championships in the W55 category. I met up with Christine in Kent along with other old college buddies Diccon Gray and Paul Hanson as we reflected on how our degree in Human Movement Studies had helped us become finely tuned athletes - ok maybe just Christine is the finely tuned athlete amongst us. We did though have a competitive Bedgebury Forest ParkRun, Christine then won the ladies 10K in the same forest on the Sunday whilst I battled the mud and hills in the half marathon version.
